David Meade (conspiracy theorist)

@Baffle gab1978: I made a request for the article to be copy edited. If you would like to copy edit it, I would appreciate it and I think copy editing is a great step to improving the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LovelyGirl7 (talkcontribs) 21:45, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello @LovelyGirl7:, I'll consider your request if no-one else gets it in the next few days; however I don't usually work on conspiracy theorist pages since that subject seems to attract too many nutters for my liking. By the way, please remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~); I've done so for you this time. It's also pointless pinging me to my own talk page, since I get notified when someone posts here anyway! Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:03, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Edward Blom

Hello:

I was about to tackle Edward Blom, the next request on the GOCE Request list, and noticed that you had removed the c/e tag to begin a copy edit. Are you going to work on it, or should I?

Cheers,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 19:32, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Twofingered Typist:; I removed {{copy edit}} because a c/e has been requested on GOCE/REQ; requesters are asked to remove this tag from articles before adding their requests (see top of page). I believe the intent is to avoid edit conflicts between those working on tagged articles and those in the requests list; also because articles on REQ (theoretically) receive a finer-grained c/e than those in the backlog. I'm not specifically planning to accept the request; it's all yours if you want it. :) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:03, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Right, makes sense. Thanks!! Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:40, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Coordinator emeritus

So we're popping the question. You richly deserve it. All the best, Miniapolis 13:30, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

We hope that you will say yes, unless, of course, you plan to return as a coordinator. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:18, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
Wow, thanks for the offer, I'm well-chuffed, as we say round 'ere. :) I am planning to return as a coordinator in the next tranche (RL permitting), and I thought emeritus status was intended for retiring lead coordinators. RL will get busier soon, but I'm happy to continue doing minor tasks like archiving requests, etc. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:11, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm glad to hear that you're thinking of coming back. All the best, Miniapolis 00:31, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Me too. For various reasons, I will need a break. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:13, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

WASP-104b

Baffle gab1978, I saw your note on the GOCE Requests page; I'm happy you'll be taking a look at the article, since that means that it will be cleaned up and free of significant problems.

Something to look out for is the possibility of plagiarism/close paraphrasing/copyvio; based on comments at User talk:LovelyGirl7#Plagiarism and subsequently at a GA nomination here, this has been a problelm in LovelyGirl7's editing, and was in articles being written at the same time as WASP-104b. I did run Earwig's copyvio detector, which is not definitive by any means and sometimes misses certain types of close paraphrasing and plagiarism (or can't get the information from a site but doesn't tell you and lists 0.0%), and it found this site. The "updated" date is several days after the material was in the Wikipedia article, which if it were a "posted" date would be a slam dunk that the site copied Wikipedia, but it's hard to be positive who copied whom, unless the material was refined here. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:47, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi BlueMoonSet, thank you for the heads-up. LovelyGirl7 certainly caused some copyvio headaches in 'her' editing and almost got blocked for it. I've been monitoring that account for a while since the user posted rev-del-able material to another c/e requested article's talk page. Redexxes did a fair job of copy-editing the WASP-104b article so I'm hoping most of the copyvio text will have been rephrased; i guess another pass and some ref checks wouldn't hurt. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 20:28, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out on the Madoka article. The copyedit is greatly appreciated. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 20:18, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks

I was just giving out the Drive awards, and I know that you don't want any but I wanted to thank you for all the work you've been doing as a coordinator this past month. In particular, you often seem to get to the talk pages before me and put out fires before they cause too much damage. I really appreciate it, so thanks! – Reidgreg (talk) 23:25, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your words Reidgreg; it's great to know one's efforts are appreciated. Dramah is, to me, unwelcome because dramah tends to perpetuate itself so moving it from REQ quickly seems to be helpful. Now, about that pay rise... ;) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 00:04, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Houston we have a problem

Hi. I noticed that you edited the Guild drive page. I disagree with your changes and I am posting this message in the hopes that you see it before you do much more work because I'm planning in reverting. I think many changes you made need to be discussed and some others removed edits that had been in place as a result of discussion. Thinker78 (talk) 00:44, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

What's the problem here, @Thinker78:? Can't our copy-editors follow simple, unembellished instructions? The older version is (imo) clearer and more concise, and has served well for years. Have I missed anything out? Please explain. Baffle gab1978 00:50, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
OTOH don't bother, I've self-reverted. Pardon me, I'm sure. Baffle gab1978 01:10, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
If you have some ideas about the instructions by all means let's talk about it. Discussion helps improve things. One of the things that was discussed was that the removal of the copyedit tag should be done before editing the page during drives and blitzes and not after. Thinker78 (talk) 06:02, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your interest in the GOCE's pages @Thinker78:, I apologise for my rather brusque tone above. As a Guild Coordinator I ought to have been more understanding in my comments. I was editing tired and slightly annoyed at minor RL matters. I'm sorry for being so rude.
I agree; talking does generally improve things like articles. Sometimes, however, project pages need taking in hand. I'm not disputing the order in which things should be done, I'm disputing the addition of waffle (unnecessary verbosity, padding) to the instructions. Clarity is paramount, especially for less-experienced editors. As in articles, unnecessary verbosity makes instructions more difficult to follow.
By the way, have you thought about becoming a GOCE Coordinator at the next Guild election in December? We can always use willing helpers, especially during Drives and Blitzes. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 00:10, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
I think I need some more practice before being coordinator. But when I feel I am up to the task I will contact you to see if there are vacancies. I can volunteer though for some things that need to be done if I there are not enough hands and if I can do them. Thinker78 (talk) 04:55, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

() hey man, just wanted to thank you for your help in the copyediting, its much appreciated, please feel free to contact me about anything, i have all the sources at hand in both written and digital form, they are in Italian so i can translate anything u want if its needed <3 id give u a barnstar but u dont like them </3 Spaicol (talk) 13:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks @Spaicol:; feel free to correct my work if I make any factual errors. I may need your help if any text is very confusing for me. Virtual non-barnstar appreciated. ;) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 20:11, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

() Hi, I've noticed text in the section "Origins" repeats information given in the earlier part of "History". You may wish to move the repeated information into a single section; "Origins" could become a sub-section of "History" if necessary. I'd even say we don't need a "History" section because the article *is* about history! :) The text in "Origins" is better-written and better referenced than that in "History"; it's up to you anyway. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 01:36, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

ill look into it as soon as i can homeboy, gotta study some Hegel today so ur perro spaicol has to hold it down u feel me Spaicol (talk) 09:42, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
im also making a Template:Malaspina translating it from italian, its gonna take a while as i need to find pages if people translated the names in english or not so yea, anyways, ill get down to adding it to the pages as soon as im sattisfied with it u feel me 18:31, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Spaicol (talk)

() Hi again; there's a few line in the subsection 'Malaspina of Pregòla' that is still in Italian. I've hidden this text from readers; please feel free to unhide it when done. Text is below:

Cheers, Baffle gab1978 21:40, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

hey man, I translated what you highlighted, thanks for the catch! would have never found it myself <3 Spaicol (talk) 15:53, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

() Hi Spaicol; I've now finished copy-editing the article; please feel free to review my changes. I hope I haven't misinterpreted anything, please do correct it if I have. Thank you for fixing the untranslated text (above). Cheers, Baffle gab1978 19:10, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

dude you are the man, i really apprechiate it for real dog, ill check it out, also, since ur a veteran on this website, u know if theres a way to possibly try and get the article re-graded? i dont think its a start or a c class? Spaicol (talk) 22:33, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
No problems; regarding reassessment, you could ask at Wikiproject Italy's talk page. They have a quality assessment page, but the talk page there hasn't been used in a while, so a note on their main talk page would probably get more attention. Actually, any editor can reassess the quality of articles below Good Article status; if you think the Malaspina article is better than C-Class, feel free to mark it as B Class. Cheers, and good luck with the article. :) Baffle gab1978 23:29, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Kyo Kusanagi

Thanks for the copyedit. Sorry for its ridiculous length. I guess the creators revealed too much information about his creation in the last years while third party sources commented more. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 00:57, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

No problem; some parts were a bit challenging and I left some text I couldn't fully understand alone. There's also some trivial text in there, so more work will be needed if you're planning a GA nom. Good luck with the article. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 01:03, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Black mamba FA

Hey, thanks for editing the lion article. Could you do one of black mamba. We would have listed it for copyedit but we didn't know if someone would get to it soon enough. Thanks! LittleJerry (talk) 18:24, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

@LittleJerry:, I may take it if it's on the REQ page, though I'm currently working on another request. The article looks to be in good condition anyway, and may not actually need much work. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 18:54, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
It just went though a peer review but I'll list it for REQ to make it extra prepared for FAC. Hope you can get to it! LittleJerry (talk) 18:59, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
I'm currently working in the backlog but I'll probably get to it next week, unless someone else does it first. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 10:55, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Drama

It is strange what some misplaced words can do to collaborative efforts, isn't it? I did not think I was being curt although it is not the first time I have been indicated such. I will keep this in mind in my future talk page comments. Thinker78 (talk) 23:22, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Indeed; it's always worth keeping in mind that our comments are easily misread by other editors. Don't worry too much about it, we learn by our mistakes, and as I said on the election page, I wasn't too polite in that thread either. I much prefer copy-editing articles than digging through old talk threads; your mileage may vary. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 23:46, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
