User:Bamyers99/TemplateParametersTool

Hey there. Thank you for the amazing tool. I'm trying to use it for {{Infobox power station}}, but it doesn't seem to work. I've only recently added template data for the infobox, does it take some time to work, or did I do something wrong? Best regards, Rehman 13:17, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

I saw the thread above that the scan runs every month? Is there a way to force run it on request? Rehman 13:18, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
@Rehman: There is no option to scan for just one template. A database dump is scanned once a month for all templates that have templatedata. --Bamyers99 (talk) 15:13, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
I see. Are you aware of any available tool where I could accomplish this (check parameter usages for a given template)? Rehman 15:15, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Notice

Hello! I have noticed InceptionBot suddenly stopped working yesterday on FoodDrink log [3] without completing all logs alphabetically to the end. Is there an issue or something? Regards, Jovanmilic97 (talk) 14:11, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

@Jovanmilic97: Thanks for the notice. It has been restarted. --Bamyers99 (talk) 16:48, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Bambots template tool offline

Just a note, it seems this tool is non-responsive —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 19:48, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

@TheDJ: The tool has been moved to a more reliable server here. --Bamyers99 (talk) 15:17, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

WP:WANTED

Hi Bamyers99. I've recently updated WP:WANTED. Hope you don't mind. Most entries still in your February 2018 list reappear in mine, but I'm actually curious how you managed to find JIN Guanglin, which seems to be primarily linked to from templates such as {{Cite book}}. Did you also use the multistream XML (and process templates?) or did you parse something else? --77.173.90.33 (talk) 12:27, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

I used the enwiki-latest-pagelinks.sql.gz file. The process is documented in the comments here followed by running the php code here. Support programs are here. --Bamyers99 (talk) 22:06, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Oh, there's actually a pagelinks file. I parsed enwiki-20190301-pages-articles-multistream.xml. I'll leave the next update to you. :) --77.173.90.33 (talk) 20:09, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

Dozi moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Dozi, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. WikiProject Recent Changes

Hi, I was investigating the "WikiProject Recent Changes" tool at https://bambots.brucemyers.com/WikiProjectRecentChanges.php but unsure as to get it to work. I get an error from the tool

Fatal error: Uncaught Exception: Connection error, see log for details in /var/www/projects/bambots/Bambots/src/web/WikiProjectRecentChanges.php:319 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/projects/bambots/Bambots/src/web/WikiProjectRecentChanges.php(60): get_changes() #1 {main} thrown in /var/www/projects/bambots/Bambots/src/web/WikiProjectRecentChanges.php on line 319

Regards Keith D (talk) 21:23, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

@Keith D: That tool doesn't run on the new server that I just moved all of my tools to. I have just removed it from the tools directory on labs as I have no plans to try and get it running on the new server. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:24, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for reply - I was looking round for a tool to generate a list for a project that could be used with the recent changes. If you know of another then let me know. Keith D (talk) 00:30, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Template Parameters Tool

Hi, trying to run the Template Parameters tool and it is still showing last months data. Since the server change it is also giving an error "json_decode error = 4". Could be that the 2 are linked. Regards. Keith D (talk) 13:23, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

@Keith D: The dump of enwiki-20190401-pages-articles.xml.bz2 keeps failing. The template data is extracted from the dump file. The dump is run by the WMF. The json error is caused by an error in the template data on the templates doc page. The Manage Template data link when editing the doc page will also display an error and refuse to load. For example, {{National Heritage List for England}} had an extra comma (,) that I fixed here. --Bamyers99 (talk) 14:23, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation & fix to the doc page - will have to check out on others. Keith D (talk) 14:29, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Most recent uses of a template

Hi, I'm interested in seeing the last N (N=50>100) uses of Template:Retired. What Links Here sorts by Page ID and returns the earliest pages first, so I have to manually go the last page of results. And even then it's returning when the page was created, not when the template was added. Category Watchlist gives me the last 10, as a feed, but I wonder if there's a way to get, say, 100? -Reagle (talk) 17:37, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

@Reagle: Category Watchlist only stores the last 7 days of changes. The template has only been added 10 times in the last 7 days. Category Watchlist has no limit to how many changes it will display. --Bamyers99 (talk) 17:49, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@Bamyers99: is there any way to get the last month's or three month's then? If not your Watchlist, then some other means? (I'm not sure how you are getting the data.) -Reagle (talk) 17:52, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@Reagle: recent category membership changes --Bamyers99 (talk) 18:14, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@Bamyers99:, thanks, I didn't know about that tool. I tinkered with it, but wasn't able to figure out if there's a way to filter just the "added to category" entries...? -Reagle (talk) 21:24, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited P. Chandrakumar, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mollywood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Question on Wikipedia:WikiProject_India

I want to add an item under "Redirects for discussion" in the Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics. How do I do that?

New article bot

I'm curious about the category "Indefinitely blocked bots". Why might "New article bot" generate reports in this category? I got there by trying to track down where 2017, 2018, 2019 new articles are reported. Try following "New articles" and navigating to 2016. If you don't know, no problem, I was simply following the link in "New article bot This list was generated from these rules. Questions and feedback are always welcome! ". That's how I got to your page. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 11:14, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Well I'm learning this is tangled up with "User:AlexNewArtBot" (a banned bot) somehow. FYI. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 11:22, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

I see how I got there: I clicked "See List display personalization for details.", which leads to AlexNewArtBot. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 11:40, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

@Ancheta Wis: AlexNewArtBot is a retired new article search bot. It has been replaced by InceptionBot. InceptionBot uses AlexNewArtBot's configuration/results pages since there are 390 projects that it searches for new articles for. --Bamyers99 (talk) 18:55, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
As long as you are expecting this, I will not bother you again. Thank you.--Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 19:04, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Canadian counterfeiters

A tag has been placed on Category:Canadian counterfeiters requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 14

Newsletter • June 2019

Updates: I've been focusing largely on the development side of things, so we are a lot closer now to being ready to actually start discussing deploying it and testing it out here.

There's just a few things left that need to be resolved:

  • A bunch of language support issues in particular, plus some other release blockers, such as the fact that currently there's no good way to find any hubs people do create.
  • We also probably need some proper documentation and examples up to even reference if we want a meaningful discussion. We have the extension documentation and some test projects, but we probably need a bit more. Also I need to be able to even find the test projects! How can I possibly write reports about this stuff if I can't find any of it?!

Some other stuff that's happened in the meantime:

  • Midpoint report is out for this round of the project, if you want to read in too much detail about all the problems I've been running into.
  • WikiProject Molecular Biology have successfully set up using the old module system that CollaborationKit is intended to replace (eventually), and it even seems to work, so go them. Based on the issues they ran into, it looks like the members signup thing on that system has some of the same problems as we've been unable to resolve in CK, though, which is... interesting. (Need to change the content model to the right thing for the formwizard config to take. Ugh, content models.)

Until next time,
