Ferrier

edit

Sorry my French is not good enough. However looking at the page your cited, I would guess that ferrier is an ironworks, marled by heaps of slag. Clinker is not a terms normally used for waste from the iron industry. Cinders is used for bloomery (or other) slag with enough iron in it to be worth resmelting. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:12, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you object is to do a translation of a French article, I suggest you do it in your sandbox and tell me when it is done. I will then look at it to see if it is using appropriate terms. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:55, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Goodlord, that's exactly what I need. Brilliant. Thank you VERY MUCH. I'll need a few days, something just popped up which needs solving then I come back to this. Have a good day, and thanks again.Basicdesign (talk) 06:50, 27 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
From what you gave me, I found this : Bloomery, which looks just the job. Some people in Tannerre-en-Puisaye have made an oven (edit: oops, it's called a furnace) that looks vey much like the one showed in that article, and it seems that many terms used there are the ones I need for that trnslation. Yeppeee! Thanks again. Talk to you again soon. Basicdesign (talk) 07:00, 27 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Basicdesign. I see from a post on yours on another PDU that you are familiar with botanists databases. What would "8889" be a reference to here and here, pg 35?. Hi there, looks like the collector's number, from what is said on this page of the jstor site: http://about.jstor.org/plants-general-support ("Glossary of Metadata Terms" used in the site's descriptive sheets, see "collector"). Although I'm wondering how that collector's number works, coz if you look here: http://plants.jstor.org/search?personName=8889 (page reached by clicking the 8889 on the page you give) there are many collectors with the same number. So your best bet for further info is to ask directly to the jstor pple (see "contact us" at the bottom of just about any page of their site). Good luck. A page you started (El Maipes necropolis, Agaete) has been reviewed!

edit

Thanks for creating El Maipes necropolis, Agaete, Basicdesign!

Wikipedia editor Airplaneman just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Looks like a cool place, thanks for writing an article about it! I'm going to move it to the title El Maipes Necropolis as per naming conventions. I'm also curious about the capitalization of "necropolis". A lot of the sources that are in the article capitalize that word, as were a lot of the sources I saw when I did a quick Google search. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers, Airplaneman 08:03, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Happy New Year

edit

Thanks very much - and to you as well.

Regarding your request: I'd be happy to take a look at the article when I have a chance. Probably won't be before tonight, at the earliest, but I'll see what I can do. I've cast a quick eye over the French article and agree that it's definitely something we should have in English. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:31, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks much, for the good wishes and for loking into that. Sorry I did not answer earlier, it's logging time down here, coming back home a total wreck not even the courage to turn PC on. Day off today, hurray for mechanic trouble (for once)!! You look like a busy man too. If there are no news from you on that ferrier article when the logging is done, I'll come back to you. Have a good day meanwhile. Basicdesign (talk) 07:57, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for letting this fall off my radar - I've had some computer troubles this weekend, and it slipped my mind in the meanwhile. I'll try to sort it out shortly. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:31, 13 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I'm having a bit of a brain fart at the moment and can't find the link to the page to restore - could you point me to it, please? Sorry - I can't for the life of me find the link to it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:38, 13 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sorry. It was in there: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Basicdesign/sandbox. Thanks again for your effort. Basicdesign (talk) 17:46, 13 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Note: I just changed the link to my sandbox where the ferrier article was, sorry - got the first one mixed-up with the French side... This is the proper link. Apologies and thanks... 88.219.191.56 (talk) 06:27, 14 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can't find it in the history of your English sandbox, for some reason. Regardless...if you created it there you don't need my help to take it to article space - you can just go into the history, grab the revision, and upload it. Nothing for me to undelete.
Now, if it's the one in the French sandbox, I can't undelete that because I don't have admin rights on the French Wikipedia. Sorry. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:49, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Was the English sandbox alright. I tried finding it with some indications from the one who deleted it (and who seems to have forgotten about his part in that), can't. So let's forget about it, am gonna translate it again from scratch: looks like it'll be far quicker. Thank you very much for your attempts at helping me on it anyway, much appreciated. Have a good day! Basicdesign (talk) 07:37, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Looks good, on cursory glance - I'll take a broader look in another day or so. (Sorry...been busy as hell, and my focus is wavering whenever I get home.) Personal preference is to italicize ferrier wherever it's used, as it's a borrowed word from French, but I'm a bit old-fashioned on the subject. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:20, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
No hurry, let's be real there: it's been waiting for several years, so what for a few days. Wish you to find focus again though, being loose is (usually) a pain in de fundament in everyday life.
Glad you concur wth me on that foreign words must be in italics. French is French, English is English, Venutian is Venutian a.s.o.; sticking to that is about preserving each one's richness and not having it diluted in unpalatable mix-ups that mean nothing else than lack of focus, precisely. I'd put all French words in italics, if someone doesn't like it they can spend some time removing the italics et grand bien leur fasse. Have a good day. Ferrier

edit

I have been through and copy-edited the article. I hope I have not changed the meaning, which was not my intention. I have hardly changed "milk slag", where I suspect the English term is tap slag. I note you propose to create categories: I would discourage you from creating new categories of which this article will be the -only content; also millennium categories, which are unnecessary, as it is not necessary to have a parent for centuries: we will never have more than 40 centuries in most categories. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:37, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much for the input. On categories: just edited the lot, no new categs. On the French bits I had left behind : I knew there was at least one spot of it but couldn't find it. Your translation was near-ok, just one change of meaning and I kept it coz it fits - just added beside it the bit that had disappeared with your edit. Ok for new title if you think that's better; I too prefer 'ancient' to 'antique', feels more alive, less museum-y, lol. Do you think it can go on as article as it is now? (eager to get this out of the way, been going on for several YEARS!!!) Basicdesign (talk) 08:56, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Folkewall

edit

The article Folkewall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lacks notability and reliable sources. The website holon.se in the refs is about dogs, not walls. The only references to "folkewall" I can find on the web are to wikis and self published site. Nothing that indicates notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
