November 2022

edit

Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia pages, such as those you made to Iceland, California, even if you intend to fix them later. Your edits have been reverted. If you would like to experiment again, please use your sandbox. So, I reverted you here also. First of all, you removed ALL the sourced information that was there, information that was valid and properly formatted and verified. Second, besides the formatting problems (with how articles should look, how references are done, etc.) you are adding too much chatter, and the writing needs to be much more on point and more economical. Drmies (talk) 19:41, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't fully understand your comments. I have been posting histories about Nevada County for many years and this is the first complaint I have received. I don't know what it means to make test edits. I certainly did not intend to do that. I have never worked in a sandbox. I usually remove some of the abbreviated information in the existing histories since the invitation is to flush the stubs out. And information that is there is not always historically correct. I'm not sure what to say about the formatting problems since I am using Wikipedia format and as I said, this is the first complaint I've received after about 20 or 30 posts. I don't know what you mean about chatter and everything that I write has a footnote to its source. I would like to keep going, but if you're not satisfied, let me know and I'll stop posting to Wikipedia Bejrisch (talk) 19:44, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Did you get the reply I left on November 27? I would appreciate the restoration of the histories you deleted or a response. I have several more I want to post. Thanks Bejrisch (talk) 22:17, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I said "test edits" because I wanted to be kind. "Chatter" means the content you added was not relevant, not of encyclopedic value. It was chatty. Drmies (talk) 01:58, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can you please give me an example of a sentence or paragraph that is chatty with an explanation of how I can improve. Thank you Bejrisch (talk) 18:30, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've submitted this to arbitration, since I would like to keep posting. I understand I have to notify you of the arbitration request. Bejrisch (talk) 01:14, 7 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Help me!

edit

Please help me with... I sent this message to the editor who has been deleting my posts a month ago and have gotten no reply. Not sure what to do now.

My Wiki name is Bejrisch. I live in You Bet, California and chair the Nevada County Historical Landmarks Commission. For about the last 10 years, I have been flushing out the stubs on Wikipedia for Nevada County historic mining communities that are now ghost towns. So far I have posted about 25 histories. Recently, a new editor started taking them down. This is the message he sent me and the reply I sent him. I have heard nothing further. I would like the histories I posted to be restored and to be permitted to post several more that I have written.

Perhaps Drmies wasn't aware of your message; you didn't link to their username so they wouldn't have been notified. I've notified Drmies in the previous sentence, so no worries. For now on, you can notify people off their talk page by using the {{U}} template. (So, for example, {{U|Example}}). I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 16:17, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's perhaps not the canned message I would have chosen when taking down your edits, but the main problem I see is that you are adding history information (mostly) without citing a source or with references that are so non-specific as to be unverifiable. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 20:48, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
thanks for your help, bu I am a bit confused. there is a citation to every statement of fact- to a contemporary history book, newspaper article etc. How can is be more specific? Bejrisch (talk) 23:32, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your statement in ref 1, "Some of this article is based on a series of oral interviews with the author", is a problem: Wikipedia does not accept "Personal communication" as a form of reference, but only uses information from Reliable independent published sources. The fact that you have talked to her also suggests that she may be a friend or family member, about whom you should not be writing because of Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest rules. It might be better to publish an article about her in a local newspaper or magazine. That publication could then be used as one source for a wikipedia article. • Hi Bejrisch, the above is a standard template, but I also wanted to add: WP does a pretty crappy job of explaining how WP:Dispute Resolution works to people who haven't used it before. I suspect the ArbCom case you opened will be closed soon as "premature"; it's kind of the last step in our dispute resolution process, not the first. Kind of like going directly to the Supreme Court before trying Small Claims Court. Anyway, I think the disagreement you're having with Drmies can be settled with a discussion at Talk:Little York, California. To be fair, you should know I'm a friend of Drmies', but this is low stakes enough that I hope you won't think my involvement here is some kind of trap. Let me know if you need help with anything. Or, your use of the {{helpme}} template above is good too. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:31, 7 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Offer to help

edit

Hello, Bejrisch. I have been an active Wikipedia editor for over 13 years and an administrator for over 5 years. My wife and I moved to Grass Valley in late 2021 to be closer to our granddaughter and her parents who also live in Grass Valley, and are enjoying learning more about Nevada County and its history. I noticed your arbitration request and regret that you had a bad experience with Drmies. He is an administrator who I respect very much but I think he made a an error with regards to your articles about former Nevada County towns. I would like to offer to help you restore these articles and would be willing to copyedit them and trim them and bring them into a more encyclopedic style. Feel free to reach out to me at any time. Cullen328 (talk) 19:06, 7 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I started with Iceland, California. Cullen328 (talk) 21:54, 7 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

+1. Concurring with Floquenbeam and Cullen328. Drmies was one of several admins and editors whom I idolised/admired from the start of my Wikipedia career, but, like Cullen328 stated, he probably made errors regarding your edits to former towns in California. If you need any help, you can reach out to me, or to them. I'll start with Polaris, California. Tails Wx 19:07, 8 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bejrisch Arbcase declined

Hello Bejrisch, I've removed the "Bejrisch case request", as it was declined by a majority of the arbitration committee. The committee felt the dispute was premature. There are helpful comments from other editors here, and I encourage you to read them and continue editing. Let me know if you have any questions.
