8. Talk Page of pages that do not exist, unless they contain deletion discussion that isn't logged elsewhere. Subpages (including archive pages) are only deletable under this rule if the corresponding top-level page does not exist. Exceptions to this are user talk pages, the talk pages of images on Commons, and the talk pages of protected deleted pages.

So before I had finished talking you deleted my page to make it not fit in with your guidelines.

Re: Question

Hi there - thought I'd pick your brains about this one. I reverted some vandalistic changes by two different anonymous users at People in quick succession, then went to leave warning messages at their talk pages. When I came to the second one, I found that you had left the warning there (unsigned, btw). I'm sure I've seen somewhere that the usual procedure is to let the reverting editor leave the warning, but I can't find that in a WP policy off-hand. Do you know whether there is such a policy? My experience (admittedly from only a few days of anti-vandalism fun) seem to suggest that that's how things are usually done, possibly because some people can do more things at once with their tools, but you may well know more than I do. (Just to be clear, I'm not bothered about missing out on leaving one warning - just wondered if there is a protocol for these things). TTFN Bencherlite 02:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

• I have slightly more experience than you but not much more. I normally fix up WP:AIR (Wiki Project Aircraft) and have checked recent changes on and off, but not really that much til' this week.
• There isn't a policy I know of. There probably is one though. It might just be an essay. It is standard etiquette. A lot of people do whatever they can, but sometimes they cut you off. When I did that I got confused between Pop-Tarts and People. I tried to revert people but you already did. Then I fixed pop tarts. Then I hit back to go and fix up the people who messed up Pop-Tarts. Instead I left the message in People. So that's my fault. I know how it feels.
• On a second thought it is procedure in WP:VANDALISM for only one person to do it. Read the vandalism procedure. It says what to do in order implying that once you fix vandalism it's yours to fix unless you need the help of an admin. (Which I'm definitely not} So you are right they imply it strongly but I don't thing they really wrote it directly anywhere. And yes: with tools you can do everything at once w/ just about 3 clicks. Believe me I have seen a video of the software before. Don't go around yelling at people saying that it is your right, but you can leave a message on their talk page and kindly say whatever you think is best. RedSkunk 03:07, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

It's hard for me to use babel. I've lost a lot of my (British) accent. :( I picked up some scottish accent and some American accent. Essentially I sound REALLY weird. And thanks from me for the fine edit of the troublesome first sentence in the Wolf Larson article. I was blanking on how to fix it. I Still might change the word "stationed." That word is usually associated with military personnel, and it seems his dad was really a university prof or something like that. Actually, the entire article needs work. Yeah. I gave him a level one warning saying he needed to source it and he got really mad. It was minor and I should've just commented and not put the warning template so I got rid of it and gave him a purple heart before he starts going around vandalizing the user page. Categories

Hey, I was wondering if there is anyway to look up categories that already exist... like an index of all the categories out there that have been created by others. I've been trying to categorize my article and the only way that I was able to do so, was to look at articles about similar topics and seeing if I can fit mine into one of their categories. This has worked to some degree but I thought I'd be better if I can put it in all/most of the right categories out there and perhaps do the same to other articles. I've cheked the wikipedia article on categories and couldn't find such a thing except a list of recently created categories. Thanks for your help, Bader isu 21:05, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

WP:PipeOrgan related links

Thanks for adding all those articles! I was thinking about the de-linking you did on the unrelated article, and whether if they showed up on the 'recent changes' tool we could keep track on any organ related information that appears by people not finding the correct link. You may be right though and as long as the disambig links are clear enough, this should happen, or would be noticed by editors of that page.

On another note, I have suggested that we hold of linking the organists in Category:Organists until we can categorize them properly - it seems a bit of a mess. It will be easier to edit and note the links in one go rather than having to go through every organist two or three times. I have started a discussion on the project talk page so we can all agree first.

Hi. I noticed that you asked whether Dudley Buck was a cathedral organist or not. I have probably been going against my own rules, but have used discretion in cases like this and included organists of large-ish/ or many parish churches in this category as well, not just for cathedrals. Questions particularly to Bencherlite and Mdcollins

You two wrote me some positive comments following some editing I did last week on the Wiki article "Hendrik Niehoff" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hendrik_Niehoff As you may have discovered, I do not know very much about carrying out helpful upgrades to the Wiki website, so I ask you for help.

Since the previous Niehoff update, I have done considerably more updating. For example, in the meantime I've added a digital photo I took of the great organ Niehoff built for the Johanniskirche in Lüneburg. I took that photo, there is no copyrite problem. But I would like to go further and add a group of photos showing more of Niehoff's work to that webpage. These will come from scans from several books, none of which to my knowledge are copyrighted. I do NOT want to invade the co pyrites, so I ask you to tell me what the limits are - how you can be sure the books are not protected at this time.

The one book is Maarten Albert Vente's "Die Brabanter Orgel" that was last published in 1963 and has no notice of a copyrite when published and Dr. Vente (a very close friend of mine) died in 1989. There are several good photos there from which I have prepared decent scans.

The other book is Jan van Biezen's "Het Nederlandse Orgel in de Renaissance en de Barok, in het Bijzonder de School van Jan van Covelens" that was published in 1995 with ISBN 90-6375-154-0 geb. Again, I do not see notice that this is copyrighted - unless I simply do not understand the Dutch. I have no means of contact with Heer van Biezen to enable discussion on this with him, and I do not want to do anything against the extremely valuable publication he has provided to us. Does anyone have information that will say how far I dare go by adding digital scans for this book to the Niehoff website.

Thank any of you for whatever information you can give me on these matters. IF the results you send are positive, I will glad to continue providing information I have on organ history and construction to the Wikipedia website.

Sadly, I suspect that the answer is that the photos in the book are protected by Dutch copyright law, even if there's not actually a copyright indication in the book, since the book was published too recently for it to be in the public domain. There's a page at Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ which might help explain WP's approach to copyright issues. Question 1 is "Can I add something to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else? and the answer is "In general, no. Most of the content people want to add is copyrighted, although some work has been made available by authors under an appropriate license (see below), and some work is in the public domain (see below). The absence of a copyright notice does not mean that a work may be freely used."

We will have to see if we can find some public domain photographs through the project - failing that, time to go on holiday and take our cameras!

I'm afraid that, even though I am unsure about copyrighting, that Bencherlite is sadly right - as far as I know, book covers are ok, for referring to that book only, but for images contained within, I'd be very surprised if it was allowed.

Also, although John Brombaugh is well written and potentially a very good article, I'd advise you to read Wikipedia:Autobiography just to bring to your attention some concerns people may have. –MDCollins (talk) 08:54, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the above information. As you see, I don't know really how the Wikipedia works nor really the best way to respond back to either of you. I guess you guys are about the only ones reading this unless others want to come check your user pages.

Anyway, from what I see, I think it is best that we return both the Niehoff and JB articles back to what they were so there is no question about ethics or copyrights. This is one reason why you see so little in the regular organ magazines on my work because to get it in there requires that one toot ones own horn; I'd prefer to let history do that instead. The single reason why I was interested in making the alterations to both articles is because I know how difficult the historical surveys like Vente and van Biezen do to bring us more accurate information: they can no longer talk with the people they are writing about, so they don't necessarily have very reliable information. But history can worry about that. I'll remove the photo of the Lüneburg organ and make other changes as much as possible so both articles are as much like I saw them about two weeks ago - except that I'll remove the information about myself that was in the Niehoff article written by someone else. I like the idea that you do all this with your camera to avoid the many problems you've pointed out. (I will carry out my part in making those reverse changes in the next day or so.)

Vandalism to cartoon show pages

Hi, you and I both noticed vandalism on pages such as List of Squirrel Boy episodes. Please help me with specific instructions as to reporting the vandal. I don't understand how a warning on the talk page of an IP address will do anything--no one ever reads it?! Do I also have to notify an admin of the warning? Also, please provide a sample of text or a place where I can cut & paste the warnings, or any advice for quickly & easily dealing with problems such as this. Thanks a bunch. Harp cats

Kudos on working on the harp cats. Thankfully the harp isn't as popular as the guitar so we don't have to worry about pages and pages of names in the main categories. Although I would say her training was classical (I think she studied some Salzedo stuff as well) LeBaron resides in the "new/avant-garde music" world, and is thus hard to categorize, as her work is ostensibly contemporary classical but she also plays rock with a distortion pedal (and slide!) as well as free improvised music. She probably also does some jazz, though I'm not sure whether she does any straight-ahead stuff (soloing over changes, etc.) the way other better known jazz harpists do. And she's influenced by world musics such as Korean kayagum music. So which category she should go in? Unlike most harpists, who specialize in a genre such as Celtic or classical, I think LeBaron is primarily concerned with her own compositions (as well as the work she does with her improvisation ensemble), and as such is quite an eclectic musician. I just read the Harpo Marx article. Fascinating. I suppose he played mostly in a classical style as I don't remember him doing ragtime, blues, or anything of the sort. I don't understand why the strings would have broken if he had tuned it up properly; in fact, I don't understand the whole bit about how he had mistuned it. If he tuned it up a few steps to the proper pitch I don't see how that would have thrown him off. By the way, Andreas Vollenweider doesn't have any type of harp cat, and I have no idea how that happened. He could be a bit hard to classify as well. Badagnani 12:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you in that subject, but don´t eliminated the tag of venezuelan musicians to the harpists and classical musicians, because this is the principal category, for all the venezuelan that make music.

Welcome to the project! It's good to have such a prolific wikipedia contributor on board. I think an early objective of the project should be the improvement of the main University page to at least Good Article standard, as I'd be willing to bet it gets read as often as several dozen of the other project pages put together! However, I've not had any experience of the Good Article nomination process so I thought nominating a few of the college pages might be an easier way to start and useful experience. I have a personal interest in the Jesus article (and recently put it up for peer review), but I think it's only one of several college articles that could easily be WP:GA candidates.

I think it would be useful to identify a shortlist of a few articles that are close to meeting the criteria. I suppose ideally they should be high on the project's importance rating scale too. Any personal favourites? Casper Gutman 21:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

List of Cellists

And the time I put into that. Oh well, better knowing late than never.. The rationale I had behind adding all cellists to Category:Cellists:

• Dynamic list of all cellists. This way, all cellists on Wikipedia are guaranteed to be on the list, as long as they're correctly tagged.
• Easy sorting. This way, one could access a cellist through the category by name or nationality.

Is there any way I could do this with the categories page and not have redundant tagging? Or, editing List of cellists with a script of some sort to be dynamic?

Welcome back, then. Don't worry about going MIA—it gave me an excuse to finish my term paper rather than blow more time on WP. ;) You say you work as a lawyer? Anyway, after thinking about the category guidelines for WP:MUSICIANS, they seem rather inefficient: the only way I could see not adding musicians to their parent category as sensible would be if Wikipedia automatically listed members of all subcategories. And as far as a page with all Americans listed, what about Category:Living people? Goes to show you how the category thing is superior to list pages. Not to mention the fact that the list pages themselves can't even conform to a standard, as some are by date (oboists, violinists), others by alphabetical order (List of cellists). Or problem of, say, an ethnically Scottish violinist that lives in London. What I propose is hierarchy somewhat like this, in which a member would be added into a specific category and all parent categories:

• Musicians
  • Musicians by genre

Repetitive edit

I have just posted my thoughts to the item's discussion page, they are:

I have removed the repetitive entry from every single day; however I see that I am not the first, nor I suspect the last to do this.

My objection is not the fact that the daily (I will accept as a matter of good faith that it was in fact daily) use of rocketry is being noted but the way of its inclusion. Some days, for instance July 28, already have a record of the rocketry included in the narrative; by giving details and even citation for that days rocketry the entry for the day has considerably more believability.

Anglesey

Referencing

Thanks for the well thought out, informative reply. It's nice to finally know how to use footnotes correctly. Recently, I've been doing a bit of cleanup the past few days on Aldo Parisot, including working in citing sources. The one thing I still don't understand, however, is the exact difference between "References" and "Footnotes". Are they just two names for the same section? Music Library

OK, this is a bit far from the scope of Wikipedia, but I was wondering how I'd go about getting this accomplished. It's occurred to me that classical music could probably be placed for free on Wikisource—though I'm unsure how to do it. I could probably scan music, but that would void copyright violations. And using a program like Finale to make images would prevent people without the software from contributing to the score library. Yeah, I'll be the first in line to admit I'm a difficult adoptee. ;) Interesting database, though. Perhaps a template that links a bunch of images together, where one could specify the time, clef, note, and pitch values? Just a thought—though I have no idea where I'd start. On a side note (no pun intended), if you could explain guidelines for referencing using the <ref> template in layman's terms, it would be greatly appreciated. Another user told me that this user is a very enthusiastic, but well intentioned person so I left some advice about going slow and working with others which I see you have also reinforced. I am in GMT-8 (US West coast), and just now got your message, hopefully he has backed off and not now contacted everyone on the adopters list, which was his intention. Penmon photos

St Seiriol's Church

Bore da! - Looking at the layout of the whole article and the position of the photos in it they seem squeezed into the right hand side. And there is a big white space at the top. It might look better to have the church photo at the top next to the intro paragraph (which could be a little longer even if it repeats something from later on), then alternate the other photos to the left and right side as their paragraphs come up like I've done here. This first paragraph has the picture to the left...

The smaller cross

And now this paragraph about the cross has its picture to the right. I hope this helps; the article is well researched and lots of subjects for such a small place and the pictures are good, clear (maybe the tunnel one is a little blurred but that could be my eyes!), and colourful. They help the article a lot but could be even better if spread out! (Have you got a photo of the whole village? Oxford university people categories

I shall post this on the general Oxford Project page, but since you had taken an interest in the Regent's Park College categories I thought you might have the inclination and expertise to deal with it.

It keeps coming to my attention that there are a number of categories that aren't quite right. First, Christ Church has a category "Fellows of Christ Church, Oxford". I think this should be replaced with two categories, "Students of Christ Church, Oxford" and "Canons of Christ Church, Oxford". Secondly, I am wondering about Heads of Houses. They seem to be put in the category, "Fellows of X College, Oxford", but are they Fellows? The Warden of All Souls is definitely not a Fellow. I don't think that the other Heads of Houses are Fellows of their colleges. Shall we have forty-seven new categories, "Warden of All Souls College, Oxford", "Masters of Balliol College, Oxford", etc? Perhaps there could be a general category, "Heads of Houses in the University of Oxford". Thirdly, Lecturers (etc). Is it worth having categories for members of college staff who do not hold a fellowship? One argument against the idea is that Lecturer (or similar) is usually a position held by somebody quite junior, while people who have an article about them are probably important enough to have a fellowship. On the other hand, it might be nice to have a way of recording the junior posts that somebody held on the way up to the top; e.g. Anthony Kenny, sometime Lecturer of Exeter and Trinity Colleges. Category: Handel's Messiah

WP:CM has been on a drive recently to standardise and reorganise our categories, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music and the bottom. Various editors have been cleaning up categories and that's what I did with Handel's Messiah. And per our drive, this category would have been emptied anyway.

Maybe I should have put it up for WP:CSD but there's been a lot of activity on the Category front that this article seemed to me so obviously redundant that I emptied it. Sorry if that caused any problems. Centy 19:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Christ Church

Thanks for giving your comments on my suggestions, and I'm pleased you like the Heads of Houses template. I think you are probably right in saying that Heads of Houses can go in the same category as Fellows and the Lecturers etc do not need to be included. Possibly we could have categories "Members of X College, Oxford SCR", but probably most people would favour sticking with what we have already.

As for Christ Church, I think accuracy is more important than consistency. To extend the point, we would not want to have categories called "American MPs", "Members of the French House of Commons", or "Members of the Canadian House of Lords" - or for that matter "British Senators". I.e. just because 38 other colleges and seven PPHs have Fellows it is no reason to inaccurately call Students of Christ Church Fellows too.

I think Canons of Christ Church do need to have a category. While members of cathedral chapters are not categorised, members of governing bodies of Oxford colleges are categorised. Canons of Christ Church enjoy a status similar to that of Students of Christ Church and Fellows of other colleges. Further, four of the university's top academics (the Regius Professors of Divinity, Ecclesiastical History, and Moral and Pastoral Theology, and the Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity) are canons of Christ Church. It seems necessary for them to have a college affiliation in their categories, especially in the case of a non-Oxonian appointment such as the current Regius Prof of Divinity. Marilyn McCord Adams does not currently have any category pertaining to Oxford. She cannot be called a "Fellow of Christ Church, Oxford" because she is not one: she is a Canon. I propose replacing the category "Fellows of Christ Church, Oxford" with "Canons and Students of Christ Church, Oxford".

The category called "Academics of the University of Oxford" serves a purpose for those academics who are known to have been at Oxford but whose affiliation to a college is not known.--Oxonian2006 22:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Glad you had a good trip, interestingly enough I was visiting family in Toronto myself last weekend! I'm afraid I haven't had the time to go all-out with my usual vandalism, so I've had to resort to cluttering Wikipedia with a useless stub or two. As far as questions to pester you with, I don't think there's anything too pressing, though I suppose some education on image uploading would come in handy. John Williams - category duplication

Hello! In the page John Williams (guitarist), I believe that including a link to Category:Classical Guitarists would be a good thing.

The reason is that Category:Classical Guitarists should list all "classical guitarists be name", while Category:English classical guitarists should list only "English Classical guitarists". (Clearly "Category:English classical guitarists" is a subset of "Category:Classical Guitarists" but the two are not the same. In particular: -> )

Category:Classical Guitarists allows one to see all classical guitarists at once, instead of having to propagate through the various nationality-categories in order to find a specific classical guitarist (consider the possibility of someone who has forgotten a "guitarist's name" but will recognize the name on seeing it.)

Note that there was once a category called Category:Classical guitarists by name, which was removed, since those entries should be moved to Category:Classical Guitarists. See the deletion log: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_March_22#Category:Classical_guitarists_by_name

If you still have doubts, tell me how you would go about finding a classical guitarist (lets say "Boris Gaquere"), of whom you happen to remember only the first name ("Boris"). You might check out Category:Russian_classical_guitarists, but that would not help since "Boris Gaquere" is listed under (surprise!) Category:Belgian_classical_guitarists You would have to propagate all "Nationality Categories" until you hit the Belgian one... To avoid this, all classical guitarists should be listed under Category:Classical guitarists, by name.

I couldn't decide which project at which to reply. However, this is a slightly different issue.

I've now seen more than one editor opine opposition to such "intermediate" category structures, in which some categories exist solely to hold other categories at a certain hierarchical level. If this is going to be a trend, it might be appropriate to open a discussion regarding all such category structures across the project (assuming it occurs elsewhere, of course). –Unint 23:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Bencherlite, I appreciate you wanting to edit articles, however, please do me a favor and go to the talk pages and ask about an issue before just deleting something off of a page. I think that the cat that was used on David's page shoudl stay as he is an alumni of that school. But more than that I am not in agreement with removing notable alumni off of the Juilliard page. They are a part of that school history and deserve to be listed on that page. That is just my input. But please, go to the talk pages before removing stuff from on of these article. I've already made a comment on the Penmon talk page about the problem of defining Penmon; something which I think still needs sorting out. It's a geographical area (basically the headland) and a parish: it is definitely NOT a village. The population stats are very misleading too. Penmon parish is part of Llangoed Community, but definitely as the minor partner - and yet Penmon's population=Llangoed's in the info box. If Llangoed's about 1200 I'd reckon Penmon about 300 (tops), divided over a comparatively wide area between farms and settlements, all miniscule. Most of the article is about Penmon Priory which seems to be equated in it with "Penmon" itself. I'll take another look when I've got time but I spend most of my time on the wicipedia Cymraeg as I feel my contributions are more needed there. Also, thanks for your help with the Felix Salmond article. I originally had mistyped the birth date as 1899, and then rearranged the chronology to suit it! Carelessness with the "accompanist" thing as well: I didn't register that there was a piano trio on the program, so I just assumed there were some show pieces that the sources didn't tell me about. As far as the Musical Times obituary, the full text is thus:

Felix Salmond, English cellist, on 20 February in New York aged sixty-three. He gave the first performance of Elgar's cello concerto at Queen's Hall on 27 October 1919. He went to America in 1922, first to the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and then to the Master Institute of United Arts in New York where he took charge of the chamber music. At the time of his death he was professor of cello and chamber music at the Juilliard School of Music. Salmond made his debut in London in 1909, and became one of the Chamber-Music Players with Albert Sammons, Lionel Tertis, and William Murdoch. He visited London in 1947 and at a recital which he gave with Franz Osborn he played all five of Beethoven's cello sonatas.

Update: I believe I neglected to answer the answer regarding "cellobop"—it says on the Gideon Freudmann page (whom I assume you were referring to), that he coined the term himself, making it a neologism and not a real genre. Recently, it seems like it's become rather popular to cudgel people to death with various neologisms involving cellos. Go for it then. As far as the AfD goes, it's probably better off that you didn't vote—I know I ran into a rather nasty case of edit warring with admins on my talk page over WP:CANVASS a few weeks ago. Some guy picked up my name at a denied WP:RPP request, and set about rather mildly soliciting comments on his proposed policy changes—not asking for votes or anything, mind you. As far as the guy on the AfD goes, I suppose it's better people get their pent-up frustration out over a deleted article than picking up a gun and killing someone. And at least he said "please", right? ;)

Featured Articles, Threatened Graduation

Gosh, make one tiny little WP:MOS slip up and you're suddenly an incompetent adopter? Or are you trying to lighten your workload for more sinister reasons?

Kidding aside, I'm really delighted that you think my work so far merits graduation from WP:AAU. I think I'll really have to go with option number two, however; I don't think I'll be ready to complete my Wikidoption journey until I've written a Featured Article. What time frame that'll be under, I'm not quite too sure—I'll be departing for Paris in a bit less than two weeks, where I'll be honing my cellistic skills until 1 September.

Unless that featured article happens to be cello rock! I'll take graduation, thank you very much.

Some questions, then:

• What's the proper time and place for using quotations in articles? There are obviously quite a few quotation templates, but I rarely see them used.
• Also, so far I've been citing sources generally after every paragraph, unless there's a fact from a different source in the middle (though sometimes I'll just get lazy and end the paragraph with all sources used for it). In the latter case, I do something like this.
  However, I can see this running into problems in much longer articles. If using books as sources, I can easily follow the same method by citing individual pages—but for webpages, I can see myself running out of letters!

I've also (obviously) noticed you've managed to dig up a new adoptee for yourself. Since she's quite a ways away, I'd be more than happy to help out and answer some of her simpler questions if you'd like. Yours, CA387 01:27, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Graduation

Well, gosh, looks like you've gone ahead and graduated me anyway. I owe you thanks for your work on the article which helped get it to Did You Know, as well for your guidance—which really helped me a lot more than you think it did (I question the legality of the image, though. On one hand, it's an old photograph, but on the other hand it's a photograph of the photograph. In either case, I doubt David Sanders would mind).

List of University of Oxford people

I'd like to suggest that in the article List of University of Oxford people we replace sections of text in italics with text in small. I have done this to lawyers and to VC and GC winners. It will be quite a task to do it for the whole page so I thought I'd suggest that members of WikiProject University of Oxford (and other willing volunteers) do a bit each. However, not being very technically minded, I can't work out how to post a message for project participants to read: if I click "Leave a message" it goes to a page that was deleted. Guto Puw

I read through some of the Guto Puw article and made a few minor changes—mostly fixing a few typos and changing passive sentences to active ones. Just looking through the article, I'd like to see a bit more context in relation to Puw's in the "Music" section; right now it seems more along the lines of a listing of pieces followed by a description and critical reception. I think it would be quite a bit more gripping (especially to the non-musically inclined reader) if this part was tied in with Puw's personal life a bit more. Though a photo isn't required, maybe you can obtain one through a fair use rationale, or through WP:COPYREQ?

You are right and I was wrong. I was uncivil and immature. Please can you stop nagging me all the time though, and actually teach me, cos if not, I will just ask to be adopted by someone who sticks to their word and doesn't always stay on my back. I have not researched the topic well enough so my opinion may change if I do. I think there is a lack of consensus of returning after being indefinitely blocked. There are some administrators who have noted that one may come back if one edits constructively. Other adminstrators insist that returning is block evasion and must be severely punished even if the new edits are completely constructive. Blocked editor

Yeah, If I were betting, I'd place a rather large wager that is the individual I blocked. The individual in question has edited under a number of accounts that I blocked for various reasons... I could go into specifics but it really isn't that important. Technically a blocked editor is not supposed to create a new account, they are supposed to request an unblock with their main account and wait to be unblocked (and it should be mentioned that this individual did that and the requests were denied). I'm willing to look the other way though... WP:IAR. It wouldn't be the first time I've noticed someone who has been blocked editing under a different account and let it go. Usually they end up getting blocked again, but that isn't a reason to deny this person a chance at reforming. The stuff I blocked the accounts for wasn't the sort of thing I would WP:DENY over at this point anyway. RE:Various Brazilian guitar categories - some questions!

Thank you for your questions. I will address each question below.

1. Brazilian classical guitarists would be referring to nationality, unless I see something wrong there. There is nothing I have encountered called Brazilian classical music as far as a genre goes. That was my rationale. I see why it was included, by the way, but it is bound to lead toward serious confusion for some. I propose Category:Classical guitarists from Brazil to clear up possible confusion.
2. This was a mistake I am glad you caught. I have been adding a lot of new categories and am trying my best to sort them all efficiently, but I'll likely make mistakes sometimes. Thanks for finding that.
3. Brazilian jazz is a genre, and if it is intended for Brazilian nationals who perform jazz (myriads of mediums, mind you) a category should be created for that, ie. Category:Jazz musicians from Brazil. I did not intended for the result my edit had on Category:Brazilian guitarists by genre, however. I hope I have answered all of your questions reasonably. • Yes, I saw most of your points in advance which is why I started the discussion and have pretty much stopped tooling with that particular category. However, I will say that though there is certainly consensus on how musicians by nationality are to be named, surely we must do something about genres that share that exact same namesake. Slightly more than two weeks ago, in the discussion page of the article about Paul Potts, I posted the following question:

At the end of the Wikipedia article there is reference to http://www.paulpotts.me.uk/

I would just like to ask more experienced users, isn't the degree to which the article in Wikipedia is a copy of the article in that website too much against the Wikipedia rules? The topic is hot and, naturally, someone putting the text for the first time needed to rely on some source, but it struck me that whole paragraphs were identical. Fon 00:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia policy rules are certainly always a good thing to remember, but I do not quite understand what my question had to do with you feeling I needed this piece of advice. I noticed that some material in Wikipedia was identical with some source. I asked, very politely, if this was not against the rules, making reservation that perhaps some more experienced users would explain to me that it was not and why it was not. In the end I got your comment. Could you please explain to me, when and in what way my question was not civil and contained a personal attack? And against whom was this attack? So, your remark was not aimed at me. Now it makes perfect sense. I knew there was something strange about it. As it turns out, you actually wrote in my defence, which is a nice thing to experience from a London-based lawyer--and an Oxonian :) Thank you.

Unusual Adoption Request

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

I really did start that article, blimey. Must have been on a spree of adding ex-Cabinet members. I'm afraid my source was the same as yours -- Who's Who 1989. I've added it as a reference on the page, but beyond that I'm not much help. Your best bet is the Oxford Uni book listing all degrees and their year alphabetically by person.
