  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

  Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

figured I better report myself before the WMF Thought Police catch *me* as well...

Hello Bgwhite, I got a somewhat bitter laugh out of your usertalk post over here,[9] and just in case those T.P. folks should come a-templating my usertalk in the darkest hours of the wiki-night, I figure that I should turn myself in pre-emptively. So here we go: I regret to say that I am guilty of WP:NPA violation(s), since I called your 2012 conversational style quote sometimes...grumpy unquote:

...look at the history of the Daniel Lazard article by clicking here,[10] and see that sometimes wikipedians are grumpy, but in general the contents of wikipedia articles tend to be stable once they are agreed-upon.[11] ...

I'm happy to undergo whatever punishment you see fit to demand of me  :-) 47.222.203.135 (talk) 15:46, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

BG19Bot and Checkwiki #1

I am looking for where BG19Bot was authorized to fix CHECKWIKI #1 as a standalone edit, for example [16]. The BRFA here points to a Yobot BRFA here which did not include CHECKWIKI #1. Is there any BRFA that directly says that the bot will fix CHECKWIKI #1 as a standalone edit? — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:09, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Note that BG19bot has not edited since 8 Feb 2017, and Bgwhite has not edited since 24 Feb 2017, so you may not get a response immediately. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:57, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)Yobot was authorised to run in all CHECKWIKI errors. -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:58, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
If that is true, I haven't seen the BRFa to authorize them. But in any case the BRFA for BG19Bot only refers to Yobot #16, which is very clearly written to include just some CHECKWIKI lists. See [17] [18], which says that the BRFA only covers 38 lists, and the table in the BRFA, which does not inlcude #1. So I am asking for a BRFA that approves BG19Bot to work on list 001. — Carl (CBM · talk) 23:51, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Be aware that Carl stared adding templates with prefix to provoke. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:19, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

TAMPERING WITH JEWISH HISTORY

Hello, I repeatedly make verified corrections to the Passover page, but either you or your bots or a third party keeps resetting it to the false info. The Passover is among the most sacred of biblical holidays for Jews and biblical Christians, and although many people may have their own personal views or traditions, the Bible, which is the only historic source for Passover's existence, is the only legitimate authority on the subject, superseding any perverted opinions or traditions or writing of any man, including that of clergy. For example, the Declaration of Independence says "In Congress July 4th, 1776"; but some people have chosen to believe that this was not the date upon which it was signed or enacted. They are entitled to their belief, but not their own truth; like it or not that document says July 4th, and their views to the contrary doesn't entitle them to alter that text in an encyclical to suit their whim. The Bible specifically states that Passover must begin on the 14th day of the first month (i.e. the month of Nisan), not the 15th, yet someone has defaced the Wikipedia entry with their (or their sect's) private personal beliefs by inserting 15th instead of 14th. The Seder feast is biblically commanded for the 15th (the second day), but the first day of Passover is unalterably on the 14th. This biblical law, which the Bible attributes to coming directly from God Himself, states in the Torah, Numbers 28:16-25: "And in the FOURTEENTH DAY of the first month is the Passover of the LORD. And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein: But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish: And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram; A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs: And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you. Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering. After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work." No matter home many times I make the correction to the Wiki entry, with reference, it keeps changing back to the incorrect "15th". This is heretical vandalism. Please fix whatever is causing this problem. Thank you for your cooperation. -Rev. Where, oh where, has Bgwhite gone?

It's very sporting of you to stay away for a while to give me a chance to catch up in the edit count, but I don't think it's gonna happen!

I hope all is well with you. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:36, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

  • A newly revamped database report can help identify users who may be eligible to be autopatrolled.
  • A potentially compromised account from 2001–2002 attempted to request resysop. Please practice appropriate account security by using a unique password for Wikipedia, and consider enabling two-factor authentication. Currently around 17% of admins have enabled 2FA, up from 16% in February 2017.
  • Did you know: On 29 June 2017, there were 1,261 administrators on the English Wikipedia – the exact number of administrators as there were ten years ago on 29 June 2007. Since that time, the English Wikipedia has grown from 1.85 million articles to over 5.43 million.

Check Wikipedia

Hi Bgwhite, I asked Stefan Kühn if he could add nlwikibooks to the list of Check Wikipedia, but he has no time and is currently not active with the project. He told me to ask you, so hereby: Could you add nlwikibooks to the Check Wikipedia project? Have nice day! QZanden (talk) 00:35, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

BG19bot REFPUNCT error

Hi. Not sure if this has been fixed, but I spotted that BG19bot back in January mis-fixed this lack of full stop in the lead section by inserting an equally wrong ",.". No such user (talk) 10:59, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

@No such user: Bgwhite has not edited since around that time. That does look like a sub-optimal edit. --Izno (talk) 11:58, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
