Levees

Not of yet.. but may be able to in the future.. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 12:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

The new levees was originally expected to cost $39 mill but has blow out to $59 million. We've had about 45mm in the last week and for once there was water in the Tamar during low tide. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 22:07, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Quite interesting. I can't imagine enough water being in the Tamar to flood. :) Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 04:35, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Figbird

A question regarding this. Since when is that an authority on birds? To my knowledge all recent authorities use Australasian Figbird, including the primary Australian authority, Christidis & Boles, 2008 (Systematics and Taxonomy of Australian Birds - a fast overview of the NT species can be found on page 6 here). If you can point to any recent major authority that suggests the name Figbird remains the correct name for the Australian population, I would be interested in knowing about it. Of course old habits die hard, especially as some people will keep on using their old field guide published before the three-species figbird split became accepted, but that is hardly an excuse for sticking with the old name in parts of wiki, especially as it potentially can lead to misunderstandings (even more so because wiki is international, not just Aust). It is also of significance for the articles for the various figbirds, as they currently state that all major authorities recognize the three-species split. However, if I have managed to overlook a recent major authority that maintains the name Figbird for the Australian population, it would presumably mean that this authority doesn't accept the split (in which case "most", but not "all", accept the splits). Please keep any replies here, rather than on my talk. Thanks. • Rabo³10:43, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport[1] is a Department of the Northern Territory Government who controls Parks and Wildlife Commission (Who have authority to name parks and wildlife along with controlling and managing reserves, national parks ect). This group is not authority. Please also note States and Territories in Australia use different names for animals and plants of the same species. Technically Australia doesn't have a national body which naming a species with an easy name. For Litchfield National we should use the local naming which is used by the NT Government Department rather then an unknown small group. Bidgee (talk) 03:13, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Just noticed another issue: There clearly are some sections in Litchfield National Park that represent copyvio from the source you gave earlier (notably parts of the Flora and Fauna sections in the wiki article versus Plants and Animals section in original source). I don't have the time right now, but unless someone else deals with it, I'll rewrite/delete the specific sections at some point. • Rabo³10:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Telstra's Phonewords Business

Hi, I wanted to follow up on the comment you left when you removed the link to 1300 Australia from the Telstra page. The 1300 Australia business is 85% owned by Telstra, has a Telstra-approved board and a Telstra appointed CEO (who happens to be one of the founding partners that Telstra reappointed to run the business). So the Telstra ownership is a bit more than a "joint venture" (even though I know you got that info from their site). Surely 85% Telstra ownership qualifies as a relevant link? And if so, what do they need to do to get their link back up? Is there somewhere where a company representative can send you proof of ownership information if you need it? They want their link back up. They asked me to pursue it. Thanks. You can contact me at fmackz@gmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.78.161.128 (talk) 09:35, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Bradman's average

I don't regard this as an edit war; I'm not reverted the article at any stage, but have undertaken several changes in order to make specific points that I believe are worth making, and to improve the English style of the paragraph in question. More than one person has reverted me without proper explanation, whereas I have always left an explanatory message (that I regard as polite) on the talkpage of these people. If you reply to me, please would you first compare this paragraph as it appeared before I got going with after my last edit of it - AG, Stockport, UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.53.69.150 (talk) 13:59, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia Australia GLAM

Hi Bidgee, have you received an invitation to Wikimedia Australia's GLAM conference? We are organising this conference on 6-7 August to meet with representatives of Australian galleries, libraries, archives and museums and we've got some great speakers lined up, including Senator Kate Lundy, Jennifer Riggs from WMF is coming out to give the keynote presentation, Mathias Schindler from Wikimedia Deutschland talking about image cooperation with the German Federal Archives, and various museum representatives and Wikimedia Australia people. The schedule is here and you can read about the conference here. As a contributor of Australian images and other content, you would be extremely welcome. Wikimedia Australia is also offering bursaries to help defray expenses for Wikimedians wishing to attend. Regards, Sarah 03:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Bidgee - I am thinking very seriously of adjusting a few of my schedules and going to GLAM in Canberra. If you are interested in going I can (if I can definitely arrange to go) give you a lift. I won't be able to help with accommodation (I have a permanent place where I stay) but I note that the information provided by Sarah suggests accommodation also. If you are interested in going can you get back to me ASAP and let me know if you want to go to both days (which I think would be best). Travel with me is free of charge and I would probably want to leave very early - say 4.30 - 5.00am on Thursday because it's difficult for me to take three days off for this - and besides that would cut you down to 1 days accommodation (all we'll need is coffee to get us going). If you decide to go to both days I could give you a lift back to Wagga Wagga also. Let me know. It would be nice to officially put a face to the name. --VS talk 14:00, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
    • Bidgee - just so you know I am definitely going to both days of GLAM. I know you are still considering but I note that tickets are free and there are only a few left - so perhaps you should book in as quickly as possible. I have also left an offer at Matt's page which will interest you.--VS talk 01:41, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Weather in Perth

I know it is a bit complicated, but yeah - I actually phoned BOM in Perth some time ago and they linked me to the pages I subsequently used as a source. It's annoying as Perth's isn't all on one page like other cities, you actually have to look at the "by month" ones produced by BOM to get the stats. This is because of several changes in their setup in the last two decades, whereas in most other cities it's been fairly constant. The by-month info is used by both major newspapers and all TV stations/broadcasts as the basis for averages. Orderinchaos 02:03, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

What you are doing is spamming and you have a history of doing so under IP's and a account. Another issue I have is you're running of a home server ([2]) and using a free domain from a dynamic domain type site but who is to say you don't have a home server to get IP's for what ever reason? Also your site isn't the same as the others. I suggest that you read WP:ELNO. Bidgee (talk) 13:38, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

brimbank city council problem

hi bidgee, seeing that you are good with peoples false edits and spam and stuff i have a real problem right now. Shiroi, Chiba's sister city is the City Of Brimbank but someone keeps changing this on Shiroi, Chibas page to Shire of Campaspe which is not true because on the City Of Brimbank's page it says Shiroi, Chiba is Brimbanks sister city and on Shire of Campaspe's page there isnt even a sister city listed. Meaning that the sister city of Shiroi, Chiba should be Brimbank? Look on the history of Shiroi, Chibas page and the early version even says Brimbank but Serendip625 keeps changing it.Cutajarc (talk) 03:27, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Never rely on unsourced content in Wikipedia articles. A search on Google came up with nothing on sister cities for Brimbank and Campaspe came up with three sister cities. Bidgee (talk) 11:49, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

RE:

Please speak to me rather continuing to warn me. I was not aware of canvassing, nor was I being biased, and all talk areas where input was requested were relevant to Virgin America. I also offered to stop and tried to explain but you wouldn't listen. What can you do to help and prove to me that you are assuming good faith if that is what you are in fact doing? Please actually reply rather than another warning. That is unproductive. 68.52.42.38 (talk) 05:48, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

You were canvassing (infact it was spamming) articles that have no connection to Virgin America and articles that happen just to pay for the Virgin branding but articles such as Talk:Virgin Blue have a notice on the top which reads (which also shows that it's not a forum) "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Virgin Blue article." and what you added had nothing to do with Virgin Blue. Also I gave you an edit summary but you continued to revert back even after being warned. Bidgee (talk) 05:54, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I assumed it was safe as long as long it was under the Virgin airline umbrella and as V Australia(Virgin Blue's long arm) in particular codehsares with VX at the affected airport(LAX), I thought it would fit there. And those who are familiar with Virgins other airlines and how they term might have had something to contribute as to whether LAX should be given a hub or focus city status or not. See where I am coming from now? Perhaps its home city articles of San Francisco and the city being discussed, Los Angeles was too far but I was planning on being done and had no intention of going any further than Virgin's travel umbrella who would be the most knowledgeable on Virgin branded airlines. I wish you would have let me explain this to you. 68.52.42.38 (talk) 06:04, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Gerogery level crossing accident

The arguments about the second train coming issue are intended to render unnecessary the "citation needed tag". Tabletop (talk) 09:57, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

See Gerogery level crossing accident

It is a necessary tag. It's your personal view point[3] (See: WP:OR) that at this stage has no back sources(IE: It should have Reliable and Verifiable sources). Your claim is totally incorrect as at Bourke/Docker Street in Wagga has had boomgates way before the Gerogery level crossing accident (Infact was in place was before I moved to Wagga in 1997) and it's only a single track crossing. Also what you added on the talk page was more of a forum and person views rather then something that has some backing nor did it have anything to improve the article. Bidgee (talk) 10:45, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Wingham was one of the first set of flashing lights on single track in the state around 1960, and it had booms, perhaps following on the precedent of Werrington, Kingswood, etc, which were on double track and had to have booms. A bit later, it was apparently decided that booms were not generally needed on single track as there was no "Second train coming" problem, and this continued until the last few years. The date of the Docker Street flashing crossing in unknown, and perhaps it followed the Wingham precedent. Old records which predate PCs may no longer be around (except for the unindexed Weekly Notices) so it would hard to verify these suggested dates. With Docker St, there may also be other factors such as proximity to busy road intersections. (Do you want to create an article to list all the factors that might come up? That is not debating, that is listing.) But the general rule appears to be that double track level crossings (Marina, Bethungra, Frampton) have to have booms, while single track ones (Gerogery) perhaps need not. I have quoted six examples, and you have quoted one, which suggest that I might stand on stronger ground.
BTW, I never said that single track level crossings never had booms; if asked I would say that until recently they were uncommon, quoting old examples such as that Wingham, and perhaps Unanderra. Thus "Totally incorrect" is wrong. Tabletop (talk) 11:25, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
You don't stand on stronger ground. You're twisting what I am saying. From the comments you made, I've interoperated you claim/say that single lines crossings never had boom gates pre: 2001, in which I've pointed out that an intersection which has less volume of traffic has had a boom gate crossing since the 1990s (Looking at one source it was on the cards since 1990). Reading the content you added to the article and comments made, it seems you just have the issue with the bridge (IE: It seems to me that you're trying to push your personal view "the crossing had no boomgates, as these were only considered necessary where there were two or more tracks, and gates were needed to protect against a "second train coming".[4]" that has not been supported by sources and that other means should have been used which is also you're own personal POV). The content you added is incorrect as boom gates are fitted to crossing with more then two lines (Mostly on main roads and highways) but also single line crossings get boom gates when considered necessary. Also the POV you have with the bridge, It was built due to a number of factors but to say what you think could be cheaper is again you're POV. Bidgee (talk) 11:57, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
BTW, I have always said that double track level crossings have boom gates (there may be exceptions that I do not know of). Double includes Multiple. Tabletop (talk) 13:40, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
BTW, A google for "second train coming" returns a reasonable number of matches. It will take some time to go through them and try to find the elusive justification for having booms on double tracks but not necessarily on single tracks. Double track level crossings do mostly have boomgates. Tabletop (talk) 11:39, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Most of the searches (other then the overseas listings) are showing Victoria and South Aust with very little on NSW. Don't forget we are talking about NSW not elsewhere. Bidgee (talk) 12:01, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
NSW and indeed Australian level crossing practice generally follow North American practice.
According to ARTC, the first level crossings in NSW were in 1958 ( I said 1960):
      • Wingham - single track - booms (WRRS Type B)
      • Dunheved - double track - booms
      • Coniston - I think at Five Islands Road - if so, then single track - booms.
The significance of this 1958 information is that at least the first two single track level crossings had booms, and then there was a long period in which most single track level crossings did not have booms (Docker Street being one exception for unknown reasons unless we "speculate") and then in the last few years booms at single track level crossings for new and existing crossings becoming a standard again. Tabletop (talk) 13:10, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
So? You've not really stated any of the NSW railway standards set by NSW the Department of Transport [Pre 2001] (Though ARTC leased lines are now using a different standard).Bidgee (talk) 14:00, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
