A10 vs. Redirect

Hi Again, I've been doing some CSD, this is after I learned to keep a log. I just had a question. I am confused about when to mark WP:A10 and when to just redirect. I would really appreciate your help with this. Thanks. - The Determinator p t c 01:42, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

You should request A10 when a newly created article with no relevant page history duplicates an existing topic, does not expand upon, detail or improve information within any existing articles on the subject, and when its title is not a plausible redirect to the topic it duplicates. In a nutshell: articles should be A10'ed when it duplicates an existing Wikipedia topic, and if its title could also be speedy deleted if it were to be a redirect. Best, →Bmusician 03:55, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

A suggestion

Hello sir! I was just wondering if you can create 1 more course about user rights on wikipedia; rollbacker, filmover, ap, ac, etc. Also some details about RfA and RfB, checkusers and oversighters, admins and crates, ArbCom etc. This is just an suggestion, Cheers! →TSU tp* 04:04, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

I would be interested in that! Gtwfan52 (talk) 05:07, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
That course exists at User:Bmusician/Adoption/Assignments/Permissions, but I don't have a course regarding RfA/RfB: probably I should write one up ;) →Bmusician 09:56, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Obfuscation

Could you tell me why the same effect does not appear in the edit window for my userpage? Or does it have to be protected? Also, do you know why my archives are no longer showing? Sorry.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 13:41, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Hmm, if the same effect does not appear in your edit window, then something must be glitched. I'll see if I can help, but first you must ask an admin to unprotect your userpage →Bmusician 03:50, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Does it appear in your edit window? I was thinking that I may have made an error in the page it transcludes from, which is not protected.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 12:59, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
The effect works in my edit window...hmm...I don't know what the problem is: try copy-pasting the code here. →Bmusician 12:13, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

If you get a new assignment, consider that your answers were right. And you can ask for the test either on BM's talk page or on the adoption page under the heading "discussion". Thank you. →TSU tp* 14:41, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

RfA vote

I note you indented your vote per this edit, but I was wondering if you'd consider striking (at least the word Oppose) to make things clearer. At least one editor has tried to un-indent it. Cheers! WormTT(talk) 15:07, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Since it happened a second time, I've struck it myself, I hope that's alright. Just to note you stated that the vote was "intended" not "indented", an unfortunate spoonerism! If I've got it wrong, feel free to trout me :) WormTT(talk) 15:32, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
  • And I also undented it, for it to be re-indented by Worm. Yes, please copyedit so you won't be undone again--and please explain how your "oppose" is not really, apparently, an "oppose" but an "!oppose" (the meaning of which I'm not exactly sure of). Thanks, Drmies (talk) 15:34, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
My intention was to "indent" the !vote (I wanted to withdraw it), not "intend" it (oopsies!) Copyedited so it won't happen again. →Bmusician 05:02, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

help with expansion

Heya Bmusician, I'm working on adding references to Nike+ FuelBand and I what templates or w/e I use to add references to the article. Btw, here's the url that I'm planning on using for citing stuff and adding details to the page, link. Any assistance would be appreciated :) Thanks!—  dainomite

You can use Template:Cite web, or just use the naked URL (and let WP:REFLINKS do the rest for you). Cheers, →Bmusician 05:01, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Request

I do not have time to finish tagging the rest, so could someone please delete all of the pages at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Bmusician/ and Special:PrefixIndex/User talk:Bmusician/ (excluding archives)? NOTE: DO NOT DELETE ADOPTION PAGES. Thanks →Bmusician 07:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Quite a number of the Special:PrefixIndex/User:Bmusician/ pages seem to have substantial contributions from other editors (for example, BMusician's former adoptees). This might make them ineligible for speedy deletion by user request, unless the other contributing parties agree. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 08:26, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
OK. Those requests have been undone. →Bmusician 08:32, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I was really shocked to see your message so thought of saying few words. I can see that you will not be active anymore on wiki but still I'd love if you change your mind. Though it is up to you at the end, this place won't be that good without you. You have been my best friend on wiki and even outside not less then it. You always advised the right thing and helped me in my bad times. I just can't imagine what I would be doing on wiki if you weren't there to help whenever I needed either it was on wiki or off wiki. You are an valuable asset to the community. Problems in life, shifting places, conflicts, etc can disturb anyone. Just give your decision a second thought before completely giving up. And if this is final, I hope that you'll return soon. All the best sir :) →TSU tp* 08:04, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

A beer for you!

  Get some beer immediately.

I cant believe you are retiring just because of an admins comment. I know you are a good soul and would never have repeated it anyway as you were aware your comment was not appreciated.

What I believe is you are retiring for a busy schedule ahead (and other personal reasons), and I respect that. But I would be very happy if you hang on and make few edits whenever you can spare some moments. hope you give another thought to your decision. Take a wikibreak as long as you deem fit and come back with fresh energy. Cheers. DBigXray 10:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Take a wiki-break...

...instead of retiring. A break can be long or short - retirement is too final. You made a mistake that you would never make again. Some mistakes, like sky diving without a parachute, are fatal. This wasn't. It didn't damage the project as such, but you departing won't help it. If you do get busy offline, just pop in when you can. None of us are that vital that everything will collapse if an individual goes, but the more of us there are with white hats, the less chance the black hats have of wrecking the place. Peridon (talk) 13:33, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

I agree with you Peridon. See Bmusician you are a great editor, mentor and friend! I had just started to collaborate with you and i am shocked to see you retire like this. I was hoping we all will go a long way in contributing to the project and make it better day by day. Whenever every valuable contributor and asset like you leaves Wikipedia for whatever reason it sure does have an effect on the project. Everyone, even the most experienced users do make many mistakes at one time or the other, please don't take that to your heart! We are all humans and no one is perfect. In the end it's your choice as we are all volunteers here, but i really wish that you come back as soon as possible :). I know you are very busy regarding your work Bmusician, but i'm sure you can take out time to edit Wikipedia. Best Regards.   TheGeneralUser (talk) 21:03, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Quick note

Hey Bmusician. Now I've got a few moments, I thought I'd sit down and drop you a note. I won't go into the gravedancing mess, there's no need for further discussion of it. What I will say is that it's nothing to retire over. We all make mistakes, do things which we later go on to regret. Learning from those mistakes is what makes you the person you are today. You do a lot of excellent work here, and we need people like you who are willing to help out. I'm hoping this retirement won't be a permenant thing. My email is open to you, if there's anything I can do to help out. For now, enjoy your life away from Wikipedia, I'll take care of your adoptees until you get back. Re: Your Retirement

Bmusican, it is a real shame you have decided to retire. You always were a good rolemodel and someone I looked up to. I myself didn't feel too welcome here on WP a few months ago, but after I took a Wikibreak I feel much better! Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:10, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:14, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation urgently needs your help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1038 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at WP:AFCH!

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Bmusician. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:12, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:18, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:49, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Reconsidering retirement unretired but ill due to a car crash at China

It's been four long months since I've decided to live Wikipedia, and I'd like to say hi to everyone who has been leaving messages on my talk page.

On September 24 - the day after my birthday, I was involved in a car collision in Wuhan, China that made me lose consciousness. Both of my arms and my left leg were broken. I lost my iPhone 4 in the crash but got a new 5 as a present. I only regained consciousness a month later, and my broken bones were almost recovered. I'm glad I wasn't killed.

I cannot teach music anymore because of this, so that means that if I come back here, I'll have loads of time to make Wikipedia a better place. I just came back to the US and am fine now. I also have not checked my email or anything else yet. →Bmusician 06:41, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Wow. Really sorry to hear this! --Rschen7754 06:52, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Thoughts are with you during your convalescence, would be great to see you back editting and helping out the incoming crowd. I'm hoping to be busy elsewhere for the next few years, so I need someone to step up and take my "most adopted users" title ;) WormTT(talk) 08:58, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
I hope I can help newcomers again, but I'm afraid I don't have any energy to even relist any AFD debates. I'm currently throwing up for some reason...jet lag? I hope I can still help make Wikipedia a better place. I don't know why, but I forgot the password to my email account, I'll try again tomorrow, it's kind of late. Anyone can take the title of most adopted users, but the Best Adopter of Wikipedia...it cant be accomplished by anyone, because worm is, and always will be, the best adopter. I always rushed through my adoption teaching... →Bmusician 09:21, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Wow, that's awful. :( I'm glad you survived! Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:11, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
If that driver was drunk, however, I definitely would have been killed on the scene. There are a lot of uncivil idiots who attempt to drive cars in China. →Bmusician 03:47, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

A pie for you!

  Bmusician!

I'm sorry to here about your terrible ordeal - we're all glad you weren't killed. I am also glad you are back! It might take a while to get back to the Wikipedia routine, but take things step by step and I'm sure you will suffice! If you need anything or want to talk about anything, I'm a talk page/email away!

Meanwhile, have this sweet apple pie, to get your energy back!

Regards, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 06:56, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! It's just because China is full of uncivil idiots who drive cars. I'll not be going back there. →Bmusician 09:23, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Real Life Barnstar
Oh my!! I knew there was something that went wrong with you since you didn't reply to 4 of my emails. Bmusician, I'm really so glad that you are okay but I'm more happy to see you coming back! Welcome back to Wikipedia and this barnstar for whatever you wen't through in the last month.

Plus, reviewing is easy when you use our new semi-automated reviewing script!
