Central Fells
editYou seem to have found your way round Wikipedia pretty well so the welcome note was probably unecessary, but its always nice to have one!. Your additions to the Lake District central fells look really good and was wondering if they would benefit from a template at the bottom to link the fells. I've created a couple on my test page and thought you might want to take a look. Feel free to comment on my talk page or here. - Suicidalhamster 23:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, it is good to get a welcome. I like the Central Fells templates- probably the smaller one, so we aren't accused of having more template than article? Bobble Hat 19:13, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes that makes sense. I've finished the small template now and put it here. I will start to add it the relevent pages if its ok with you? Suicidalhamster 11:26, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Fine by me. But hey, I've been here a whole week.Bobble Hat 21:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Central Fells Part Two
editHi thanks for contacting me. Nice articles on the Central Fells, good detail. Yes I've got some photos for the articles you've written. I've certainly got photos of High Tove, Sergeant's Crag, Raven Crag and Tarn Crag and possibly some others. I will start putting them in the mountain boxes in the next few days. Theres a nice view of Thirlmere from the slopes of Steel Fell in the Thirlmere article which is mine and would look good in the Steel Fell item. I think you are right theres a few different versions of the mountain box and that probably wants standardising, I started putting the little English flag in lately. A lot of the fell articles want expanding and that wants doing at some time. If you are going to start on the Far Eastern Fells then I better leave them alone, I've done quite a bit of work on them. I know I have some photos for Thornthwaite Crag, Ill Bell, Tarn Crag (Longsleddale), Brock Crag, Hartsop Dodd and some others. Nice work and keep in touch. Regards Mick Knapton 02:34, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Far eastern Fells
editSorry I haven't had the internet for a while so late response! Will do the far eastern template when I have internet again and some time. If you have time feel free to do it yourself - its only really a matter of copying the template:Central Fells and replacing the links and changing the title to something like template:Far Eastern Fells. Suicidalhamster 15:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Right you are, job doneBobble Hat 14:48, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Great job on the Far Eastern Fells. Sorry about Wansfell, I had no intention of doing it then realised I had quite a neat photo, I was just taking a photo of Troutbeck village and Wansfell happened to be in the background. I know I have some photos on FE fells, Ill Bell, Thornthwaite Beacon, Brock Crags and Hartsop Dodd, and probably some more. I'm going to keep chipping away at the Wainwrights, I tend to write articles on fells that I've got pictures of, although I will run out of pictures this winter, until I can get to the Lakes next year. I've got pictures of Watson Dodd, Knott Rigg (not brilliant), Bannerdale Crags and a few others although I'm not exactly sure what until I rummage. I'd also like to expand some of the articles, the Skiddaw article is woeful for a 3000 footer (and the picture is average) and I think Little Man should have its own page (needs splitting). Talk to you soon, nice work. Mick Knapton 22:33, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Eastern Fells
editYes I agree. The Helvellyn Range Template was around before the Central, Far Eastern templates etc were made, so it will need to be changed inline with the others. Not sure if there is any way to combine them both, thought about possibly using Template:Navbox generic but not sure if this is worth it. - Suicidalhamster 00:31, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Just saw this article. Nice one :-) - David Gerard 23:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC) Thank you! Bobble Hat 21:15, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

DYK
editDefinition of a Fell...
editHi, thanks for the message. I take your point about consistancy, but to strive for uniformity of approach should not excuse poor use of terminology and definition. Simply because a peak is included in one of Wainwright's books does not make it a fell. Fells are large upland moor areas, sometimes encompassing a peak which is referred to by the fell name, and sometimes not. Green Crag is a case in point. If you have ever been there you will know that it is simply a high knoll of rock, set in a much wider moorland fell. Green Crag itself is about 50m square. To describe Green Crag as being a "fell" in the opening line is simply wrong; it is a peak, set on a fell. Wainwright's books are titled "The xxx Fells" to define an area of walking, he did not intend to imply that every single walk included therin had an attendant fell with the same name. His Green Crag walk indicates a destination, not that you would be walking on Green Crag. The walk itself is across Ulpha and Birker Fells, both of which contain many peaks and knolls that have individual names. Sorry if this feels as though I have jumped in two boots first, but encyclopedic content should be accurate. Pyrope 08:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
"Gloriously unanatomical"
editThanks for fleshing out Scafell Pike (which I've only just noticed). I'd been meaning to have a go at it for some time, as it was rather woefully inadequate, but it's looking a lot more respectable now. I was a bit bemused by the above turn of phrase though - what on earth does it mean?! --Blisco 19:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Latrigg sketch map.JPG
editThanks for uploading Image:Latrigg sketch map.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Very odd. There is a "GFDL-self made" tag on the image. Recently updated by User:Cydebot. Bobble Hat 15:08, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Far Eastern Fells
editHi Bobble Hat. You are off to such a great start on the article Far Eastern Fells that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- JayHenry 04:55, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- As it's got to be a fact contained in the article, how about something like "Did you know … that the highest mountain in the Far Eastern Fells of the Lake District is High Street." It would be nice to finish it with something like "the summit of which is crossed by a roman road giving it its name" or "which rises to 828 metres", but I don't think you're allowed to include details not given in the main article. — ras52 12:07, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to stick it on DYK- only got time to log on for a quick vandalism check just now. Cheers. Bobble Hat 19:25, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done. — ras52 19:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks for all your excellent articles on Wainwrights. Before you came along List of Wainwrights was mostly red links! Suicidalhamster 18:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC) |
You are very kind. It was, in a very real sense, a pleasure. I'll stop now, before I declare my undying love for the fells, and go off on one like the Old Codger.
North Western Fells
editSorry about linking to the wrong Barrow - however, the existing link needs fixed because it just points to a disambiguation page. Does this Barrow actually refer to Barrow (Lake District)? Colonies Chris (talk) 11:10, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
OK I'll sort it now. Thanks for noticing. Bobble Hat (talk) 16:24, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I introduced a Black Sails stub to fix some bad wikilinks. A number of pages pointed to Black Sails meaning the summit, and others meaning Black Sails the EP. Black Sails redirected to the latter. I subsequently discovered that someone had created a Black Sails (Lake District) article (redirecting to Wetherlam) to refer to from assorted lists of summits. My intent was to get a correct topology - and let others worry about whether the article was needed.
I would have no objection to redirecting Black Sails to Wetherlam#Black_Sails, or converting it to a disambiguation page (and reverting Black Sails (Lake District) to redirect to Wetherlam).
OTOH, Black Sails is a more significant feature than, say Mardale Ill Bell or Stone Arthur, both of which (as Wainwrights) have significant articles. Lavateraguy (talk) 19:30, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Graphite in the vicinity of Seathwaite hamlet was apparently not on the Seathwaite Fell
editOn 20:19, 23 February 2007 it appears that you added a new "Other Information" section to the Seathwaite Fell article that reads:
- The earliest pencils were made of graphite found on Seathwaite Fell, which was used by the local farmers for marking their sheep.[citation needed]
Please note in the history page for the Seathwaite Fell article that your edit was made after Mick Knapton had removed the graphite mine information from that article on 09:50, 1 September 2006. There is now referenced material about the graphite mine at the articles on Grey Knotts and for the hamlet at Seathwaite (Borrowdale) that support the notion that the mine was not on Seathwaite Fell. Would you please consider removing the section you added to the Seathwaite Fell article in favor of leaving the graphite mine information within the other two articles? Thank you. 67.86.73.252 (talk) 23:20, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Please don't treat me like an idiot, or leave summaries on fell pages that imply I am one. If you read the history page carefully, you would note that I had moved the unsourced fact into its own section and added a [citation needed] tag. Bobble Hat (talk) 16:07, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- I am sorry if my message could be construed as an attempt to treat you like an idiot. That was not my intent at all. Rather, having mistaken you for someone who re-placed the claim that the graphite mine was on Seathwaite Fell, I was trying to build a consensus of opinion that the mine was near the Seathwaite hamlet but not on the Fell. I had hoped that the references cited could be agreed upon as reasonable. I thank you for removing the claim from the Fell article. 67.86.73.252 (talk) 22:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
editHi. When you recently edited HMS Viper (1899), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Portland (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:42, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
