Civic Center, San Francisco article

edit

How is a vendor setting up at the Civic Center relevant to its history and why is it notable enough to warrant mentioning at all in the article? To me, having this paragraph in the article smacks of advertising for the vendor and that's a definite no-no on WP. --sanfranman59 (talk) 02:15, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

And your unilateral removal of my writing smacks of facism. I left a longer note regarding your false charge on your talk page. --Br77rino (talk) 00:43, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wow ... fascism?? ... Come on. We're both just trying to build an encyclopedia here, no? I apologize if I was heavy-handed. I should have given you some time to respond to my note before I removed your text about the vendor. It's definitely not my habit to jump on new editors' work. I think if you check my edit history and talk page, you'll see that I'm not one to indiscriminately remove others' work. In this case, since I thought there was a reasonable chance that the edit was made by the vendor himself, I decided to be bold and remove it. That type of thing happens all the time out here. I was evidently mistaken in this case. Again, my apologies. --sanfranman59 (talk) 00:54, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Global warming

edit

Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia! In case you are not already aware, an article to which you have recently contributed, Global warming, is on article probation. A detailed description of the terms of article probation may be found at Wikipedia:General sanctions/Climate change probation. Also note that the terms of some article probations extend to related articles and their associated talk pages.

The above is a templated message. Please accept it as a routine friendly notice, not as a claim that there is any problem with your edits. Thank you. -- TS 09:05, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Complex numbers

edit

I've just reverted two of your edits to this article as neither made sense. The first was mathematically incorrect, the second grammatically so. And there's no need to explain commutativity - that's what the wikilink is for (as most readers will know it). Please be more careful with your edits of mathematical articles: if you are at all unsure ask on the talk page first. --JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 22:04, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Low-level programming language, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Garbage collection (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism, such as the edit at Tragedy of the commons, are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage newer editors. Please read Wikipedia:NOTVAND for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. – S. Rich (talk) 00:36, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I struggled with the wording, and was very hesitant to use "vandalism" but couldn't think of anything better at that moment. I thought of something better right after, but didn't know how to change my edit comment. I think I should have said "specious section removed." As you can see, the section had a "citation needed" on it, and for good reason. The section is more a thing of polemics than of facts. If you read that Wikipedia article, The Tragedy of the Commons, it is overlong to a great extent, and the reason is people keep adding sections that are comment-like in nature. They have disagreements with the idea, but that should not be in an article meant to explain the idea.Br77rino (talk) 00:56, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Preston Sturges

edit

Your edit to this article has presented what purports to be factual information concerning the value of a money figure in one time period in today's dollars. As such, you need to provide a source for that information, and you also need to specify what year you're quoting an equivalent for, since in the future the equivalence will be different. (Wikipedia is not written only for now, but for the future as well.) As you probably know, any unsourced information can be removed from acticles, and it cannot be restored unless it is sourced, so please do not restore this information until you support it with a cite and specify what year you're talking about. GMT and summer time

edit

According to Dennis McCarthy and P. Kenneth Seidelmann, in their 2009 book published by Wiley-VCH TIME—From Earth Rotation to Atomic Physics page 17, "GMT can be used in the United Kingdom as the name for daylight saving time, so it is UTC plus one hour. So, since 1925 the use of GMT has had different meanings and its use can be very confusing. Thus, it is recommended that for any precise timekeeping, the name GMT should not be used." [Emphasis added.] My experience is that outside the UK, GMT does not observe summer time. I will look for a reliable source to confirm GMT outside the UK does not observe summer time and edit the articles concerned accordingly. We should not claim in an article that GMT does, or does not, observe summer time, but rather point out the conflicting practices. Jc3s5h (talk) 11:10, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

A reliable source, the American Heritage Dictionary 3rd ed.
Greenwich time [pronunciation omitted] n. See universal time.
universal time n. Abbr. UT The mean solar time for the meridian at Greenwich, England, used as a basis for calculating time throughout most of the world. Also called Greenwich time.
So there is no support for the idea that GMT or Greenwich time ever observes daylight saving time in the United States. Jc3s5h (talk) 01:34, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
