August 2016

Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to Brad Rushing. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! Apologies for the delay. I have not intentionally been "unresponsive." Rather I have been very, very busy with professional projects I am involved in.

Looking at the hyperlinked Conflicts Of Interest page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflict_of_interest) I do not see anything in this article that breaks any of the rules given. I also don't see on this page any of the points you cite.

But I will address a few for the sake of assuring you I did look through the article:

"A conflict of interest is a set of circumstances that creates a risk that professional judgement or actions regarding a primary interest will be unduly influenced by a secondary interest."

and

"Secondary interest includes not only financial gain but also such motives as the desire for professional advancement and the wish to do favours for family and friends, but conflict of interest rules usually focus on financial relationships because they are relatively more objective, fungible, and quantifiable. The secondary interests are not treated as wrong in themselves, but become objectionable when they are believed to have greater weight than the primary interests."

The information given in the entry in question is all factual and much is sourced from and/or referenced back to Wikipedia itself. Hyperbole is not used in the descriptions and there is no marketing or promotional language.

"Related to the practice of law - court case/legal proceeding" - there is not now, nor ever has been anything of this sort related to the subject of this entry.

"Generally (unrelated to the practice of law) - More generally, conflicts of interest can be defined as any situation in which an individual or corporation (either private or governmental) is in a position to exploit a professional or official capacity in some way for their personal or corporate benefit." There is no manipulation or interpretation of the information given. It is all true and all cross-referenced. There is no promotion or solicitation.

"Organizational" - there is no "service to the government" involved and never has been

"Conflict of interest in the health care industry" - there is no relationship with the healthcare industry whatsoever

The rest of the conflicts seem to deal with government, finance and media, none of which are an element in this entry.

With respect to this claim: "*avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;"

I do not find that precise language in this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Autobiography

What this article says exactly is: "Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict of interest editing and is strongly discouraged." Not forbidden or unacceptable, only "discouraged" which implies very clearly that it may be permitted.

Furthermore instructions are given for the author under which circumstances such an entry is permitted to exist: "If you create an autobiography, you must have no promotional intent and must be willing to accept it being neutralized if it is not neutral, or even deleted if it comes to that. If you do turn out to be notable, you must expect the article to stay—you cannot just get it deleted because you are not happy with it."

If you feel the article is in any way not neutral please explain your reasons clearly.

With respect to being notable the fact that the subject of this article is one of only thirty one people in the world to win the prestigious MTV Video Music Award for Cinematography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV_Video_Music_Award_for_Best_Cinematography) should be reason enough. Beyond that, as presented in my defense of the David Blackburn (film editor) article, the fact that the subject of this entry was a key creative contributor to major videos for the artists linked and referenced in the article demonstrates a very high level of achievement among an elite and small fraction of people in the motion picture industry. That the subject of the article has been honored with admission into the Canadian Society of Cinematographers and the Visual Effects Society, both elite organizations where members are recommended and carefully vetted, should be reason enough to make the argument for notability. Articles have been published repeatedly on Brad Rushing's work in:

Taken all together I don't see how you can make a sound argument against my case in this regard.

If, in spite of my demonstration that in their own rules Wikipedia does not forbid the creation of an autobiographical entry, you want to persist on pursuing deletion of this article, please tell me what will remedy your concern.

Do you require more verifiable instances of notability?

Do you require the article to somehow be more neutral?

Are you just really fixated on the fact the article was not written by a third party?

If the latter is the main point of contention that is easily remedied. So tell me how to proceed.

Should I have third parties contribute to editing the page?

Should I have a third party completely re-do this entry? If so, how do I delete the existing entry?

Should I submit a Proposal at Articles Of Creation? If so, is there a way to transfer the existing article without completely re-writing it?

I am open to working to satisfy your concerns if you will tell me how to proceed.

After you reply please be patient with me in getting back to you. I am incredibly busy. This matter is a concern for me, but I am not able to prioritize addressing it over my paying work responsibilities.

With respect to my edit of the "We Are All Made Of Stars" article I did not add any language including statements of value or judgement. I merely added the verifiable names of two key artistic contributors to the music video, editor David Blackburn and cinematographer Brad Rushing.

With respect to David Blackburn, that I may know him has no bearing on the reality of his notable contributions to the industry and his work. The content of the entry should not be in doubt as citations are given for corroboration and I have explained them in greater detail in my responses to you on that page.

There are a tremendous number of people in the industry and the public who admire and respect the work of these two filmmakers. It would be no problem to have a person or people with no working relationship to them to undertake actions to satisfy you.

So please clearly inform me what those are.

It would be appropriate if you would declare your conflict of interest. That is all that Wikipedia is asking of you. The instructions for doing so are made very clear on the relevant page. This has nothing to do with notability, it has to do with the potential for conflict of interest. It appears you have that, and that you have chosen not to disclose it forthrightly. It's not painful, you just need to do it. And then you need to abide by the stipulations regarding making significant changes to those articles with which you have a COI, including any you have already created. Your reluctance to do this gives you the appearance of being underhanded, when there is no need for that at all. Declare and then let it drop. Fair enough. I will do this. I apologize for my confusion. I am not the most sophisticated Wikipedia editor. I have to cut and paste code from other articles and then customize it. While it is a terrific resource the deep knowledge required to effectively work the platform and the rules seem very dense and complex to me. Is this the wrong page for instructions? Is the process not called "declare" or "declaration" by Wikipedia? Hi Braddp186k please note that the sources to interviews with the subject and the official website are Primary sources, IMDb is not considered a reliable source as its content is user generated. For a Biogrpahy of a living person to remain in the main article space and not in draft it should have at least one reliable, secondary source (I would suggest something such as a quality newspaper or major news network mentioning him and his work in detail), there is less chance of the article being deleted while it is a draft being sorted out, whereas if it remained in article space it could attract a deletion very quickly.
