Unblock Request

edit

{{unblock}}

Is this where I request to have my block lifted? The instruction tell me to go to the bottom of my talk page. I did that. Then what? There is no field to enter the required text. There is no prompt mentioned? Why is Wikipedia so painful to use?

Please provide clear step by step instructions for end to end tasks such as asking why one has been blocked. I have spent an hour going in circles trying to find a way to contact someone and get stopped at every turn,

The block message I received was "The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be an open or anonymizing proxy. To prevent abuse, these proxies may be blocked from editing Wikipedia."

I have no idea what this means and when I click on links to find more details there is language being used that means nothing to someone like me - a subject matter expert who has average technological expertise but is not a computer geek.

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 99.230.170.125.

Decline reason:

That IP is not blocked. If you are still running into a block on this IP, try clearning your browser's cookies. The instructions on how to do this in various browsers can be found here. SQLQuery me! 18:38, 25 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this request as Wikipedia instructions are vague. There is not enough clarity. For example, I clicked on "Help:I have been blocked." I then followed these instructions and hit a dead end. Where do I type this text? There is no field or prompt mentioned in the instructions.

Appealing

You may appeal the block by adding {{unblock|your reason here}} to the bottom of your user talk page. You must state a reason for this, and the block can then be discussed. Our guide to appealing blocks might help you write your unblock request.

I use multiple computers. My work laptop blocks personal email accounts for security reasons(I am currently using my work laptop) and my personal laptop which allows access. I also have a personal desktop and a work desktop.

I also looked up my IP Address on the internet so the one in the subject line is what I got from Google.

The blocked message I got is below:

"If you believe you are not running an open proxy, the most likely cause is that another customer using your IP address who was previously assigned this IP address was running an open proxy. You may appeal this block by adding the following text on your talk page: {{unblock}}"

Please help as I am currently trying to get an article to where it should be so it can be published and because I am blocked I cannot ask people questions let alone thank them for the help.

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 99.230.170.125 but also My Public IPv4 is: 199.19.253.50. I don't know why. I just use a laptop. Why does the internet say I have 2 IP addresses?

Decline reason:

99.230.170.125 is not blocked. 199.19.253.50 is an open proxy. You must disable your proxy in order to edit. ST47 (talk) 00:04, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I just sent a request before this one for IP 99.230.170.125. Yamla has blocked me twice and I am using the same laptop. The last time I sent an unblock request (see previous ones) I was told I wasn't blocked. I was able to resume editing a contribution based on feedback. Now, I am blocked again and cannot edit.

It is not possible to use two IP addresses simultaneously. What's happening here is that you are using 199.19.253.50, which is the Symantec proxy. You'll need to disable your use of the proxy and then try again in 24 hours, and you should be good to go. --Yamla (talk) 18:45, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
