Your GA nomination of Uranium mining in the Bancroft area

The article Uranium mining in the Bancroft area you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Uranium mining in the Bancroft area for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Reidgreg -- Reidgreg (talk) 16:01, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Congratulations again! If I haven't mentioned it already, please consider listing the article at WP:CAN10K, with the article title bolded for a GA. – Reidgreg (talk) 00:22, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Basel Adra

The article Basel Adra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet Notability standard WP:N

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

June 2022

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Basel Adra. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. If the subject meets WP:NJOURNALIST please state that case in the AfD discussion or ask the nominating editor to withdraw the AfD nomination. We cannot take it upon ourselves to remove these templates, especially when it is an article that we have created. Blue Riband► 13:04, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I think I removed a PROD, i.e. I did the normal thing. No? CT55555 (talk) 13:06, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
You are correct - the article had been tagged for uncontroversial deletion, as opposed to a deletion discussion. My bad hasty judgement.Blue Riband► 13:14, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Just don't forget to add {{old prod}} to the talk page after removing. I took care of it this time. ––FormalDude talk 13:16, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for that. This was my first time removing a PROD, so I was unaware of that step. CT55555 (talk) 13:47, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

A script re: sourcing that you may be interested in

Hello CT5, I recently learned, from another editor, Kent G. Budge, of a very useful sourcing script created by the editor Headbomb. It may be a tool of interest for you in your efforts to improve article sourcing. Maybe you already use it? Basically, the script identifies predatory journals (pay-to-play), and unreliable sources through a color coding system that highlights low quality sources. I installed it a few days ago to my Gadgets preferences. It runs seamlessly; already it's helped me improve sourcing on articles and remove spammy sources. Here is a link to the install and info page in the event you might want to try it out: User:Headbomb/unreliable. Netherzone (talk) 14:39, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Conduct_in_deletion-related_editing. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Conduct_in_deletion-related_editing/Evidence. Orphaned non-free image File:How Bad Are Bananas? book cover.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:How Bad Are Bananas? book cover.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:21, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

The misspelled page

Thanks for cleaning up that page. In real life, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if someone had re-created (copied) the improved version of the page under the correct name. Then we could have all voted to speedy delete the misspelled page. (I think it was the right outcome that the page content survived, but it bothers me that the misspelled page now lives forever as a redirect and in all the inbound links. I probably just need to let it go, but I think it does affect search engine results, etc., further up the chain.) I wanted to ask an AfD admin or someone what our options were, but maybe I needed to look into that more carefully. Cielquiparle (talk) 07:53, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jennifer Thorpe-Moscon

Hello, CT55555,

I saw your comment today on this AFD. I don't see a problem with second-guessing yourself if you find yourself missing some obvious points about notability that others see and bring up. But it's wrong to second guess yourself if you just have a different opinion than other editors about whether an article should be kept or deleted. Deletion discussions are an area where we can use more thoughtful editors to participate and debate the merits of the articles, redirects, templates and categories and it's better to have a diverse group of editors evalutating content than just those who want to keep everything or delete everything. Please continue to participate and weigh in with your evaluation of article content and whether it meets Wikipedia's standards. Thanks for your participation! Liz Read! Greetings to you. I would be delighted to collaborate with you to improve wikipedia. I think you've done this edit from a cell phone and I think that someone had already blocked that. I think that is because they think you are using multiple accounts (actual accounts, IP addresses and a cell phone). I think you've made enemies here and people will be quick to block you because you were banned. I didn't support the ban. Anyway, you can get the ban lifted if you explain to an admin that you understand the rules, and will abide by them, I think it will help to say you are getting mentoring (from me) and I would honestly be delighted to try and help guide you on wikipedia and collaborate to make sure important topics are reported. So step one, I recommend, if log into the account you were banned from and ask for the ban to be lifted. You will need to acknowledge the reasons that you were banned (I think for using multiple accounts) and that you understand you should only use one account.
All the best to you. CT55555 (talk) 14:44, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Errol Musk

Hi, I took the liberty of moving Errol Musk to mainspace myself and added some Wikilinks to it, though I'll leave someone else to patrol it. In case you missed it though, note that WP:RMTR isn't the place to defend notability really. Contesting on there means against WP:PCM, i.e. that it's not uncontroversial. -Kj cheetham (talk) 23:24, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

I felt a bit stuck there. I hang out at AfD enough to know the rules and norms quite well, so I'm confident in this notability of the article, but someone moved it into the "contested" section. To me it seems uncontroversial. CT55555 (talk) 23:50, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
Also, sorry, I should have said first: Thanks. Thanks for moving it. Which seems like the best solution. If anyone doubts notability still they can discuss or nominate for deletion. CT55555 (talk) 00:06, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
In my opinion it shouldn't have been contested to start with. I've had to contest quite a few technical move requests I personally agreed with before now on purely procedural grounds, but moving out of draftspace is a special case. Glad to have been able to help though. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:08, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Errol Musk

Hello, CT55555, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username FormalDude, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Errol Musk, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Errol Musk.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|FormalDude}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Discouraging flooding of discussions

Regarding this edit: a common technique used outside of Wikipedia is to give participants turns at speaking. I have written up one way to incorporate this approach into discussions at User:Isaacl/Community/Content dispute resolution toolbox § Round-robin discussion phase A strict round-robin probably wouldn't be effective in deletion discussions, though, as it would prolong the period of discussion. Given the number of deletion discussions that take place, this would likely be considered a no-go for many participants. Perhaps a time-based throttle on comments, such as an editor can make one comment in an X-hour period, would help. isaacl (talk) 15:53, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

I like how you have been thinking about this. I also wonder if maybe some advice from ArbCom might help people recalibrate. CT55555 (talk) 15:59, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
For better or worse, advice from the arbitration committee is non-binding, and the community generally is averse to elevating the committee's advice to guideline or policy status, as it feels it has the responsibility for setting guidance. So while the committee's advice might be influential on some of the relatively small number of people following a specific case, as far as I have seen it doesn't have much effect on the rest. isaacl (talk) 04:12, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi CT55555, every time I see that tiny kitten on my talk page I smile. She wanted me to send you this photo of a smiling tomato, fresh from my little urban garden. Enjoy your day! Netherzone (talk) 18:01, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey! Smiling tomato sends you this message: don't let the drama boards get you down. You do great work here. Netherzone (talk) 04:11, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Everyone who has replied on the board has done so with logic and grace, so I feel happy about that. But being followed around and having the same or similar accusation thrown at me three times feels not good. So editing feels much less fun in the past few days. Maybe the universe is sending me a signal to spend more time outdoors and less on the computer. Thanks. CT55555 (talk) 16:21, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
Spending time out of doors in nature is so restorative, always a good idea, IMO. But please don't let this unpleasantness turn you away from WP. It's obvious there is no merit in the complaint. I really mean it when I said you do great work here. Others know that too. You have created and/or improved many articles on relevant topics for the encyclopedia. You are skilled and great to collaborate with. If you do take a break, please come back! Netherzone (talk) 16:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

Back from the conference

I'm back from the conference (I had a great time in a gorgeous location). The AfD has become a huge time sink, and now that someone accused me of being "vitriolic" (which I most certainly was not), I've decided not to spend the time crafting a source analysis chart. It's a complicated case with a backstory. Netherzone (talk) 16:15, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Time outdoors is healthier than time on Wikipedia, that's a theme in our recent chats.
That's cool. AfD is becoming less tenable for me and I'l spending less time there and following less discussions after I comment. Nonetheless, I respected your critical feedback and hope to learn from it. So if you have any advice for me, it's welcome. All criticisms taken assuming good faith. CT55555 (talk) 16:19, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
The conference took place in a town at over 8,000 ft. altitude, there were daily forays into the surrounding mountains 10,000 feet and above, as well as excellent presentations. After the conference, two days of hot spring soaking!
I am sorry if my comment in the AfD sounded short or brusk, for that I sincerely apologize. Please know that I value your work here and have lots of respect for you, your opinions and your contributions to the encyclopedia.
Regarding my comment about misunderstanding WP:CREATIVE: Artists creating art, or publishing illustrations, or writing a chapter or two in books is not enough to confer notability without indepth significant coverage. Making art and exhibiting art is simply what artists do. Making illustrations and having those images published is simply what illustrators do. Practicing one’s profession is not enough to meet notability criteria. There are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of artists and illustrators in the world, only a handful are notable per WP standards, the rest may very well be good artists, but are WP:RUNOFTHEMILL. Here's some feedback on the sources you provided which is aligned with what Animalparty said:
  • The Atlantic – not WP:SIGCOV – it’s a quote by her, a one sentence passing mention “Evolution is a brush, not a ladder,” the artist Emily Willoughbynotes in Dinosaur Art II: not a direct route going anywhere, but, rather, a messy bundle of approaches.
  • Scientific American – not WP:SIGCOV – it’s a review of Mark Whitton’s work, not hers. The review doesn’t even mention her.
  • NHPR – not WP:SIGCOV – doesn’t mention her.
  • The Hindu – not in-depth SIGCOV – it’s five sentences that again quote her; it is not an analytical critical review of her work, nor an in-depth profile of her as an artist.
  • National Geographic – not SIGCOV - no content about her, it’s just two images of her work with image credits.

Netherzone (talk) 20:15, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

I appreciate the feedback and I did not think you were being rude or anything like that. I stopped following that particular AfD since it got a bit overwhelming since that guy made a blog about it. Perhaps let's avoid the specifics of that case, and let me check the general concept: Do you agree that WP:CREATIVE can, in some circumstances, make people notable if their work is the subject of reviews. CT55555 (talk) 03:36, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Hi! I missed seeing this. Yes significant critical attention such as multiple reviews of exhibitions in notable, independent publications (Artforum, Art in America, Flash Art, Frieze, New York Times etc.) that provides critical/analytical or art historical analysis can help to establish notability. The artists work should be the subject of the review, not just a mention or a few sentences in a group show. Artists make art, that is what they do, then they show their work in exhibitions, that's what they do. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of artists make and show work. What we need is how a particular artist rises above the run-of-the-mill WP:MILL to become truly exceptional in their field. So if they were a featured artist in one of the main exhibitions of the Venice Biennale (not a satellite show nor one of those group shows with tons of artists) that would help their notability, even if is a group show because....it's the Venice Biennale, and an artist has to be exceptional to be curated into it! But still that would not be a guaranteed shoe-in for an article. There would still need to be reviews, or a monograph, multiple one-person museum shows, museum permanent collections, awards like the Guggenheim Fellowship or Tiffany Foundation grant, or Women's Caucus on the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. In the case of an author or academic writer, it's not enough to simply publish, but there needs to be multiple reviews in reliable sources. I used to be much more lax in my take on notability for artists/creatives until I started seeing how many promotional, self-promotional, advertorial junk articles get created, or worse, undisclosed paid editing. Just my two cents... Netherzone (talk) 20:33, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

A goat for you!

Just stopping by. I have seen "here and there" some troubles you may have encountered. Things will likely resolve themselves but in the interim, pet a goat!

S0091 (talk) 20:10, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Ha. Thanks. Wikipedia got a bit annoying but it was a good jolt to focus more on friends and the outdoors and having done so, I'm starting to care less about what increasingly seems like it was trollish behaviour. AfD, where I tended to hang out, seemed to get confrontational, but that also just made me realise that I can just create useful articles without needing to argue with people and so I've done more of that. Thanks for the goat, I'm about to take him or her for a walk. CT55555 (talk) 20:16, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Just a friendly note that the instructions for nominating an article as an IP specifically directs unregistered users to tag the article, and then come to WT:AFD to request someone complete the nomination on their behalf. Hello!

Hi, CT55555,

I use to see your work all of the time and I haven't run into you lately so I'm just checking in, hoping that you are just busy with off-wiki life. Hope all is well with you! Liz Read! Talk! 03:23, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for writing. I found myself frustrated by a chain of events that included what felt like hounding, and what felt I was in the middle of someone's vendetta against the subject of articles I wrote. The other party seemed like a sock puppet with a history of similar trouble making, but an investigation was inconclusive. The circumstances left me unable to assume good faith, and upset. I was probably more affected than I needed to be, but it caused me to reflect how much time I put into my wikipedia hobby and how it affected my mood and acted as a catalyst for me deciding I should put more time into my off-wiki life, friendships, and the outdoors. Hence, and I'm flattered that you noticed, I took a little pause or rest. I'm upset, but I'm ok, and I'll most likely return in future, but maybe will give wikipedia a little less time in my pie chart of life. I hope you are well and thank you for the kind message. What you refer to here [1] is not a rule/policy everyone must follow, but merely a recommendation ("it is commonly best practice"). I do not think that polluting the page with a large chunk of striked through text will be helpful in this case per WP:IAR. My very best wishes (talk) 04:47, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

I agree that Wikipedia doesn't have any rules. This is a guideline. As part of this collaborative project I encourage you to follow best practises, guidelines, and policies. While you may favour visual aesthetics, I favour accurate historical records, those things appear to be in tension, guidelines ought to be how we resolve tensions, but I can't force you. Peace. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, I've not been on the receiving end of a single edit conflict, which is great (and unexpected given the high number of edits)! Happy editing, ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:45, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
Well, we turned a stub into a B-class article in a few hours. I think this is great timing, as he's just hitting the news and so I think there will be lots of people keen to learn more. Well done. CT55555(talk) 03:01, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

In the news

I have an essay that I have been working on called WP:HOWITNWORKS. Its eventual goal is to help decipher some of the idiosyncrasies of ITN that makes it a fairly unique process (both in a good way and a bad way) from the rest of Wikipedia. Please feel free to read through it and provide your thoughts, as well as suggest areas you feel I should provide more detail on. 🌈WaltCip-(talk) 19:03, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Reading now. Will add notes. The Nutshell "The operational culture of WP:ITN can seem confusing or dysfunctional to newer participants who are finding that their good-faith nominations are being snowed out by opposition from more regular users" 100% resonates. CT55555(talk) 20:04, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
  1. First impression, a shorter essay might get more reads. That could be feedback that is as much about me and my preferences than a valid critique. But my desire for brevity does influence all following comments, which are couched in the assumption that you might agree to edit it down a little:
  2. "Items favored/disfavored" is very valuable advice, so so the emphasis that it's very inconsistent (that makes the opposition feel less personal)
  3. The three tips in the "International notability" section are helpful.
  4. "Examples of items that won't get posted" feels half repetitive of what is disfavoured in the "Items favored/disfavored" section
  5. The introductoary caveat at "What is a high enough death toll?" seems unnecessary in the context of this being an essay (i.e. clearly none of this is a guideline)
  6. The "how many deaths is high enough" part might be more concise as a table.
  7. Differentiating between "mass shooting" and "terrorism" is always a very interesting exercise as I think it's a very political act to call something one of the other, even if the English speaking western world seems to have approximate consistency, it seems to be religion and race and nation influenced rather than dispassionate logic. Absolutely a wider issue than this essay.
  8. In general I think it would be possible to significantly reduce this essay to less than half the number of lines and I think doing so would increase readership.
  9. And in general I think it is very helpful for the newbies. I hope it is part of a wider effort to make the process easier.
CT55555(talk) 20:20, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your notes. I will take all of this into consideration as I continue to tweak the essay. Although I have it in Wiki-space, I definitely want it to be more refined (and helpful) first before I start actively publicizing it. 🌈WaltCip-(talk) 22:05, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Hummel

Thanks for looking at the Elizabeth Hummel article. Might be a questionable one to keep. When I added the 1998 Lilith Fair YouTube video I saw that she was on a small side stage. Your assessment of the references seems fair. And maddening though it is, I still cannot verify her best acoustic artist claim. Lightburst (talk) 16:29, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Crime

Gday

Are you still active over at WikiProject_Crime_and_Criminal_Biography? I'd love to have someone assess Murder of Vivianne Ruiz at some stage. Happy to do a task for you also? I shortly will nom for DYK also. Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 09:47, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

I just use the rater tool, which suggests it is B or higher, based on length. It cannot be higher though, as the lede is probably too long, and there are some unreferenced elements. I also suspect there is a more appropriate infobox. I"m not a member of that wikiproject, but I think it is OK for me to rate using the rater tool, as it's a fairly non controversial rating to call it a B. I've added a few other WikiProject tags and increased the number of categories. I hope this helps. Is this the feedback you were looking for? CT55555(talk) 13:37, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Hey, thanks so much! Appreciate it. Exactly what I was looking for, a second person to assess. It certainly cannot go higher than B, it would need a formal assessment for A or GA class and its definitely not there yet. I thought you were a member of that project, but no biggie at all. What infobox would you suggest? Cheers MaxnaCarta (talk) 22:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
I recommend Infobox civilian attack
My approach to things like this is always to imagine what is the most high profile comparible event. Then I look at the article of that event, because I can be sure that many people have refined it.
So for example Murder of George Floyd has had a quarter of a million views in the past 90 days an has been edited by 21 people.
If we consider Murder of George Floyd article to be a good example of how to do an article on murders, we can get ideas on infobox, sections from there. We can also use it as inspiration for relevant wikiprojects to tag and categories to add.
Hope this helps. CT55555(talk) 22:43, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Terrorism in 2022

A tag has been placed on Category:Terrorism in 2022 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! December 2022

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Category:Terrorism in 2022. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Liz Read! Hello, CT55555,
Please do not remove CSD tags from pages you have created. This is a well-known rule, it even states this in the CSD notice that I posted. If a category is no longer empty, another editor can remove the tag from the page. The Empty Categories category is scanned throughout the day by different editors to do this.
And I hope you are otherwise having a pleasant holidy weekend. Liz Read! Talk! 22:47, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

ANI notice

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Beccaynr (talk) 14:13, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know! I wish the person who mentioned me had done so. I feel like the allegations against me are so flimsy that they strength of the complaint speaks for itself, so I'll probably stay out of this unless circumstances change.
I'm slightly amused that we appear to be accused of trying to further the goals of Women In Red; I had only considered that to be a good thing and had only seen others share that view until today. CT55555(talk) 14:37, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights

On 31 December 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights has been described as "Canada's most prominent pro-gun group"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
