Where did all my history go. Somebody erased all of it. How do I retrieve it?--Cantors 12:34, 23 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but please do not recreate articles which have been deleted via a Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. It is against policy. Thanks. Jayjg (talk) 20:06, 23 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
The article has been deleted; see Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Lawrence Eliezer Kepecs. I don't know who suggested you re-post it, but once an article has been deleted, re-creating it is typically considered vandalism. Jayjg (talk) 20:40, 23 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Choose another name please

Hi and welcome: I am extremely troubled by your choice of "Cantors" as a Wikipedia User name for yourself. Are you aware that we have a lot of articles about real Cantors on Wikipedia, (see Category:Cantors)? You claim that you are a cantor but you are NOT the only person like this because there are others who may have the title but do NOT flaunt it here at Wikipedia, so it is NOT advisbale that you flash this title as a user name for yourself, otherwise your user name will be a sure recipe for confusion and potential disaster. Kindly see the Wikipedia log-in page here [1] where you are VERY clearly advised to "Avoid usernames that are offensive, inflammatory, or confusing...Avoid choosing a username that is the name of a celebrity, or a political, military, or religious figure or event or known Wikipedia user." This is all explained to you by the article: Wikipedia:Username, and in particular see Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate usernames: "...Your username should not be used to insult or mock other users, usernames, articles, or actions. Additionally, a username should not be used to defame other people, companies or groups, regardless of whether they edit Wikipedia. Fairly or unfairly, the line between acceptable and unacceptable user names is drawn by those who find the username inappropriate, not by the creator of the name." Finally, in order for you to change you name, see Wikipedia:Username#Changing inappropriate usernames. I will be asking for two admins (User:Jfdwolff and User:Jayjg) familiar with these issues for their learned opinions. Thank you. IZAK 00:00, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

(copied from VfD page) I don't see any reason this guy shouldn't be allowed to have the user name "Cantors." What the login page says is to "Avoid choosing a username that is the name of a celebrity, or a political, military, or religious figure or event or known Wikipedia user." (my emphasis) That policy refers to the names of promininent individuals, not to the name of an entire profession. For example, someone shouldn't take the user name "Billy Grahm," but there would be nothing wrong with someone taking the user name "Preachers," or "Choir Singer," or "Alter Boys." The dude sings at his local sinagogue and he was the first to take the user name, so give him a break! Blackcats 10:11, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
(Also from the VfD page): I see no problem with a user having a name like "Cantors" - as Blackcats says above, it is a religious rank or title, not the name of a religious figure. If I took, for example, User:John_Paul_II, that would be subject to censure. However, claiming User:The_Pope is not offensive (perhaps implicitly, but it could have been done in good faith). I would suggest that user removes the prior VfD'd material from his user page, and, if he so desires, retains the title. jglc | t | c 21:33, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
