Hello Charivari. Thanks for the pointers; you're quite right, I did a bog-standard job of it! Sorry! Will read the necessary guidelines. Thanks for setting my mistakes right. Hope to hear more from you again, Fergananim 11:23, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Savoyard pages

edit

Dear Charivari, You are correct that one should not copy from a copyrighted source and merely republish on the web without permission. However, the Savoyard descriptions will not violate copyright for two reasons. First, I have permission from the authors of the Who's Who pages that I have used, who are personally known to me. Secondly, the Savoyard pages are a collaboration between myself, Marc Shepherd and others. Here is our proceure. First, I get some biographical material from the who's who pages and other sources (The G&S Companion, etc.) and edit it down to a more encyclopedic format. Then Marc pulls out various biographies and other secondary sources and adds more citations and material to round out the research. Finally, other editors can look over the pages and add/edit. So, if you give the new entries a couple of days, I think you will find that they are not dependent on any one source. Fair enough? (A good example might be the Martyn Green page.) Gala Dalí

edit

Hi Charivary, I wonder why you think category "Russian models" is inappropriate ? Gala was born Elena Ivanovna Diakonova in Russia and posed as a model for Dali. Sure she was more then a model for Dali but she was both Russian and a model. Am I wrong ? Thanks Abune

Hi I missed the out of date link, but the double ArtMagick link is a personal site, it's not academic, or verifiable. I won't delete it and if you feel really strongly that this particular personal site does add something, then leave it as an external link. StopItTidyUp 11:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The user had few contributions and was adding external links to multiple articles. it is a behaviour pattern that tends to worry me.Geni 11:26, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Spam blacklist

edit

Well, try to add that link back and you'll see how m:spam blacklist works. When a link contained in the an article gets blacklisted, the article becomes uneditable until the link is removed. Conscious 09:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the article Ash, Surrey - you have edited, have you got any green idea about the origin of the name Ash?

Tilusha Ghelani article

edit

Hello. While I can see that you do a lot of good wiki-work, I question the relevance of some details within your article on Tilusha Ghelani. The Lorca, for example, was not a professional production and has little connection with her reason for notability - her work as a radio producer. Very few Biographical articles warrant a description of a subject's A Level studies. While you have been thorough in your internet searches on Ms Ghelani and in your source-notation, not all sources are acceptable in terms of verifiability and the Biography of Living Persons Guidelines. Comprehensiveness does not necessarily aid comprehension.

I thought it polite to raise the issue with you, so that you can edit it yourself should you wish to.

Cheers. Ned-kogar 01:54, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Woman on the Edge of Time (book cover).jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Woman on the Edge of Time (book cover).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:46, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Mari Wilson - Dolled Up.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Mari Wilson - Dolled Up.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 17:27, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Great Lives, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Sergeant (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Lists of people named Alison and Allison

edit

Hi, I notice that a few months ago you split the lists of people named Alison and Allison to separate pages. In the past there has been a consensus, e.g. at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people named Jacob, that a list of people with a common name should be removed rather than split, and separate lists should be deleted.

In case it's hard to trace what happened to the pages, you split Alison (name) to lists called Alison (given name) (which had previously been merged) and Allison (given name). Today I moved the lists to List of people with the given name Alison and List of people with the given name Allison, then moved the name article from Alison (name) to Alison (given name).

I propose to put the lists up for deletion, but am checking first with you as a courtesy. – Fayenatic London 17:49, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
