Steelers Uniform

Hello, I see that you have been making uniform templates for football teams such as the browns, chargers, and Cowboys. You make good jersey templates, so I was wondering if you could make one for the Steelers. The current jersey template for the Steelers is really bad, and simple. A lot of people would appreciate if you could make one. Thank you for your time. -Anthony Mania ANTbook365 (talk) 21:02, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks so much dude, have a good day. ANTbook365 (talk) 20:29, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

@ANTbook365: You're welcome. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:49, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Charles, where/how are you creating these uniforms? I have been wanting to make uniforms for some teams, but I could never find a template to use. If you do it offline, would you be willing to send the template to my email? If you do it online, would you mind giving me a link? This will be handy for the future. Thanks, Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:30, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Here's how I've created these National Football League (NFL) team uniforms: First, I've downloaded all 32 NFL team logo slicks from NFLCommunications.com. Second, I then use the "take a snapshot" feature in Adobe Reader to copy and paste the uniform from the logo slick. Third, I paste the uniform templates into a blank Microsoft Paint page and add designations for the uniforms. It's as simple as that. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 01:18, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: If somehow for some reason it is found out that there are any copyright violations involved here, I have no problem taking them down and deleting them from Commons. I don't want to get into any legal trouble with the NFL over this. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 01:29, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll start with that once I get my computer back next week. lol. the only time there would be a copyright problem is if the logo on the helmet is non-free (ex. Seattle Seahawks). If that is the case, then you can upload the uniform to Wikipedia here... the only issue with that is that it can only be used in the main article and no season articles. Thanks again! Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 01:37, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello again. I've just wanted to let you know that the Steelers, patriots, and cowboys uniforms have all seemed to changed back to the old templates. I don't know why but your jersey edits are so much better. ANTbook365 (talk) 15:47, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

@ANTbook365: I know, but I had to take them down, because each image failed to meet the non-free criteria at Wikimedia Commons (which is where I had uploaded them through). I don't own any of the NFL team uniforms I had uploaded through Wikimedia Commons, and because they failed to meet the non-free criteria there, I had to take them down and have them deleted. Hopefully, another editor will re-upload them through Wikipedia using the {{Non-free sports uniform}} template. I suggest sending Corkythehornetfan a message. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:08, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Just upload them to Wikipedia using the File Upload Wizard and tag them with the {{Non-free sports uniform}} license. Wikimedia Commons is for Public Domain files only. Wikipedia is for Non-free files. The uniforms can be uploaded on this site, just not Commons. I have no interest in uploading them myself, so I am leaving them up to you guys. Atlanta Hawks/Buffalo Bisons

I am reinserting the content you removed regarding the establishment of the Atlanta Hawks as the Buffalo Bisons in 1946. In your edit summary, you call for "official proof," seemingly some official acknowledgement by the Hawks organization of being in Buffalo. In other words, you are calling for a non-independent primary source. Wikipedia prefers reliable independent, secondary sources (see WP:SOURCE) to primary sources. Just because the Hawks organization does not acknowledge their establishment in Buffalo does negate the fact that the club was, in fact, established in Buffalo. According to Wikipedia standards, this fact is verifiable, based upon the preponderance of reliable independent, secondary sources, some of which date back to the 1940s. Although, if you do want a more "official" source, see this entry on Pop Gates at the Naismith Hall of fame website, which explicitly references the Buffalo and Tri-Cities franchise together. schetm (talk) 16:18, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

@Schetm: Again, the Atlanta Hawks and the National Basketball Association (NBA) do not officially recognize the team ever being based in Buffalo, New York. The team's history page is here. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:24, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

It appears to be one of those finer details in the history that is so brief, the team and league either overlooked it or just ignore it for simplicity. As I mentioned on Talk:Atlanta Hawks#Buffalo Bisons, the 1946–47 Season standings at basketball-reference.com has a footnote for the Blackhawks that says "Started the season as the Buffalo Bisons before moving to Moline, IL." The Hawks only played in Buffalo for 13 games before moving, so I can see why the team and the league don't include that. The franchise history page from the Atlanta Hawks, while fairly extensive, isn't all that detailed about the origins of the team. It just says "The Tri-Cities Blackhawks joined the National Basketball League in the 1946-47 season..." --JonRidinger (talk) 23:50, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

GT Templates

I noticed you have been changing the colors on the GT templates. However, the GT templates are currently not consistent with regards to the color scheme. Several templates have the new color scheme and others still have the old color scheme. My main concern has always been keeping the color scheme consistent for all GT templates. If you are going to change the color scheme on GT templates please change the color scheme on all GT Templates. Otherwise the changes that you recently made will be reverted to maintain consistency. Thanks for your assistance - Mistercontributer (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Election #'s

Hi, you made an edit on 2016 US Presidential Election "Updating" the popular vote totals, but you provided no sources, and all major election sources, Cook Political, Dave Leip, etc do not corroborate these totals. Lest you not provide a real source, I will revert your edits. Thanks- PalmerTheGolfer (talk)PalmerTheGolfer PalmerTheGolfer (talk) 21:52, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

@PalmerTheGolfer: My source is from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). It's found here. I know the numbers from NARA are off. What I did was I just added the numbers in the results by state sections for all candidates linearly. Send me another message if you have any other complaints or ideas. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:50, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi again, I'm sorry but those numbers aren't backed up by very reputable sources, such as Cook Political Report, Dave Leip's Election Atlas, and all of the Secretaries of State reporting certified vote totals. Thanks- PalmerTheGolfer (talk)PalmerTheGolfer
@PalmerTheGolfer: I know. That's why I tried to add up all the popular vote totals for all candidates, as reported by the Secretaries of State. That's why there was no sources that I provided. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 00:35, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Ok, but that doesn't make sense, they have correct #s from Secs of State, and their totals are correct as wellPalmerTheGolfer (talk)PalmerTheGolfer
OK. Use the sources from Cook Political Report, Dave Leip's Election Atlas, and the sources from all 50 Secretaries of State then. At the risk of repeating myself, all I was trying to do was linearly add up the numbers from the Secretary of State sources for all candidates, so that it would make sense. NCAA in the module

I'm gonna strongly disagree with this edit. Do you have access into the website? This is why I didn't include it when I added conferences, plus there isn't a brand guide made public. The only reason I added the conferences I did was because they have a brand guide. Different files on the NCAA website show different colors, although it should be Pantone 300. I'm not comfortable enough to to place this here yet as we've clearly debated this several times by continuously changing the colors... Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 01:00, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: Yes, I have applied for and gained access to the NCAA Digital Library website. Should you also apply for and gain access to that website, the file you would probably be looking for is titled "2016-2017_Champ_StyleGuide.pdf". That file spells out the Pantone colors, which are Pantone 300, 295C, and 428C. I cross-referenced the colors for Pantone 300C, which turn out to be  #005EB8  (the source is found here). I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 01:08, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
I've applied. I'll wait and see. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 01:57, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
I was granted this time (I applied back late last year and was denied... must have been tired of me! lol). I would recommend renaming it to NCAA Division I due to Division II being  #0079C2 ... Thanks, Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 22:14, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: OK, I will let you make all the necessary edits to Module:College color/data and all the NCAA-related championship templates. I'm glad to hear that you gained access to NCAA Digital Library. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:40, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
That's fine. Here's what I'm thinking:
["NCAA Division I"] = {"005EB8", "FFFFFF", cite="..."},
["NCAA Division III"] = "NCAA Division I",
["NCAA Division II"] = {"0079C2", "FFFFFF", cite="..."},

Thoughts? Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:59, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: That's fine with me. I would get input from other editors, though, for consensus' sake. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 00:45, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Piping

Believe it or not, in instances like Alexander Memorial Coliseum, you don't need to go through and pipe the current name in the wikilink. I ran into this issue a little while ago and basically, it prevents editors from having to go back every time a facility changes names, plus there's nothing in the MOS that forbids redirects. So, whatever the name is at the time an event took place (or in this case, when the team used the facility), that's the link we should use, even if it's not the current name. See WP:NOTBROKEN. Before reading that, I would always pipe the current name too. --JonRidinger (talk) 03:19, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Linking United States

It's not necessary to link "United States", as you recently did in the Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill infoboxes. The names of major geographic features, locations (e.g. United States, ...)." Contributor321 (talk) 05:42, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Iowa State

They have an updated brand guide for athletics, which was already in the module. Your reference is from 2007, as dated on the source. The browser date means nothing. I think you need to be a lot more careful and put some thought into your edits. Some of them have not made sense. Some thrm fail WP:CONTRAST (Virginia), and some of them are going to an outdated source/colors (Iowa State). Hell, I think it's pretty damn clear based of the website itself that they've gone darker. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 02:37, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: OK, how exactly did you find that reference? It doesn't seem official to me. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but the reference I provided at least has a .iastate.edu domain, even if it is outdated. I also tried looking at Iowa State's Trademark Office website to find athletic branding. I didn't find anything there, but it does say the school colors are "Cardinal Red and Cyclone Gold". Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 02:55, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
By typing Iowa State Cyclones art sheet on google search. Why doesn't it "look official"? CSTV.com (owned by Learfield Sports) was a common domain name for Division I schools; grfx.cstv.com is a popular sub page for graphics (hence grfx) for a schoool if they partner with the company Leirfield Sports. A few years back, a majority of the schools domain name was [currentdomainname].cstv.com (example: dupanthers.cstv.com now its dupanthers.com). Some still use that website for their graphics... this will show some schools that use it for their media guides. Just because it doesn't have the school's domain name doesn't mean it "isn't official ". They have flipped the colors now; "Cardinal Red" in yours is now the alternate color, and "Cyclone Gold" remains the same. Keep in mind, though, that those are the branding names, not the actual colors (which are Cardinal and Gold). Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 04:31, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: It didn't seem official to me because I was looking at Cyclones.com and I couldn't find a URL link to it anywhere from Cyclones.com. All I could find was this: Iowa State Athletics Identity Marks. Also, that cardinal color looks a little too dark. Check out the Big 12 Conference's Style Guide, for example. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 07:11, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
The Big 12's guide was also made three years ago when they rebranded, way before the link I've provided was made. Just look at www.cyclones.com... The website uses a darker red, for the teams use a darker red for their uniforms, and the list can go on. It's going to look different no matter what website you're at due to different programs, but they're all the same red. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 07:49, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for trying to help

The Whitecaps colours are primarily white. Making them primarily blue is not appropriate. If you want to fix something, make main sections of Template:Vancouver Whitecaps FC match the other two, not the other way around. The secondary blue is appropriate. The dark blue background is not. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:40, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

No, the team's primary color is deep sea blue, per WhitecapsFC.com. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 20:51, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
Also, why are you removing Template:Vancouver Whitecaps FC squad & Template:Vancouver Whitecaps FC coaches from the article? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:13, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The changes look good. Thanks. I'm presently wearing the jersey and it's quite white. The primary colour after that is sea blue and then "deep sea" blue and then "Whitecaps Blue". the "rain" jersey is the one they wear for most matches, including away matches. They do wear the others, but white is the primary one. Search Google images and Google news.
Not intentionally removing them. I was reverting the colour changes you made. I'll see if I can self-revert. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:18, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Well scratch that. They use  #8c2232  and  #dbcca4  for their colors... I've emailed to you. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 18:23, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: I saw the second e-mail you sent me. I also saw that you changed the color codes at Module:College color/data. Thank you. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 18:31, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
I've sent you another email. This time it is in reference to Ole Miss. They sent me an email. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 04:04, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: OK, I got your e-mail. Just so you know, according to the NCAA, the official color order for Ole Miss is Cardinal Red and Navy Blue: NCAA.com Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 04:33, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
I'm well aware of their colors, but as I've mentioned before, in general, we need to go by their media guides, not NCAA.com. The media guides are a more reliable source as the school chooses their color names; the NCAA doesn't. Thus, NCAA.com may be wrong as they don't update the Ncaa.com/schools website very often. One example is my school, Emporia State. We haven't used "Old Gold" since 2011. A new president started in January 2012 and did not like "Old Gold" so we changed it to "Gold". It was a branding issue, and we've stuck with "Gold" ever since. NCAA is wrong and hasn't updated their page. This is why we use the school website and media guides before NCAA.com. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 17:11, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Right, I understand that. Would you be willing to change the color order to Cardinal Red and Navy Blue (in that order) if Ole Miss media guides for many various sports state that's what they are (in that order)? Ole Miss football, Ole Miss men's basketball, Ole Miss women's basketball, Ole Miss baseball. My point is that all of these media guide references from Ole Miss state that the official colors for the school are Cardinal Red and Navy Blue (in that order). Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 17:45, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
I had already reverted my reverts of yours before you posted this. I will only agree to use them in the Red/Blue order IF the background stays Navy Blue. They are more known for the Navy Blue as their background color than Cardinal. My cousin who goes to school their even said Navy Blue is the primary (and more common) background color. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 17:51, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: OK, the background can stay Navy blue. Thanks for changing the color order at Module:College color/data. I guess I'll learn to consult the athletic program's media guides for each school that I want or need to change the colors for in the future. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:03, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

April 2017

I have noticed recent edits of yours from the Arizona Cardinals and the now called Los Angeles Chargers. If you have any disagreements with the edits, best to leave a talk discussion on the pages of either teams. Simply "updating" won't suffice and could lead to a edit war. Bluhaze777 (talk) 22:00, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

@Bluhaze777: Please provide reliable sources to back up your claims at Arizona Cardinals. Also, the Chargers are now based in Los Angeles, which is where the club was founded in the American Football League (AFL) in 1960. The infobox should list the club's history chronologically. Clemson navboxes

Black is not one of Clemson's official primary colors per their official guide. I reverted your changed to be more compliant with it. Tom Danson (talk) 20:25, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Tom Danson: - white on Clemson's orange ( #F56600 ) is not compliant per WP:CONTRAST. Black is however, making it easier to read. The font color doesn't need to be a primary color for it to be used as the font color. It isn't used in the infoboxes, which should be the main concern. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 21:22, 4 May 2017 (UTC):
@Tom Danson: @Corkythehornetfan: I have to agree with Corkythehornetfan here. I know that black isn't one of Clemson's colors; however, white text on an orange background isn't WP:CONTRAST compliant, making it harder for Wikipedia readers with color blindness to read it. That's why I did it that way (to make it easier for them to read). Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:52, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Then why not just use purple as the text color? (unlike black, it is one of Clemson's primary colors) Tom Danson (talk) 03:39, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
@Tom Danson: Because purple on orange is not compliant with WP:CONTRAST. It isn't the end of the world if we use a non-primary color. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 04:21, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
*sighs* You win...I just don't know why guidelines are being as strictly enforced as policies these days. Tom Danson (talk) 04:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Actually, I'd like to point out that black is used by the Clemson Tigers athletic department. See this reference from ClemsonTigers.com (it's called Bengal Stripe). Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:31, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

VT Hokies

How did you get the colors listed in this edit? The source you've provided only lists the Pantone numbers which is the same as the University Brand Guide. Sometimes, the colors look different due to the different programs used on websites. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but saying it's "per abc.com" and they don't list a hex code is sort of questionable. Even the Pantone.com websites don't match your changes, nor does my DigitalColor Meter (which will vary for the Meter due to different programs). It is close to the CMYK codes provided in the brand guide for the University, but they still don't match. I wonder if we should contact the athletics department? Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:03, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Under the COLOR PALETTE heading (sic), right-click on the color (under PRIMARY COLORS) and select 'Inspect Element' (Microsoft Edge) or 'Inspect Element (Q)' (Firefox) to find out the hex code. That's how I found out the HTML hex codes for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:46, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Re: Sources

Being an "official" source means it's a primary source. Wikipedia policy discourage their use in favour of reliable, secondary sources. The "official" source adds nothing that the other sources already state, Plus, your stance that a specific source must not be removed, despite this, seems to be a violation of the notion that you do not "own" articles. Just a thought. ViperSnake151  Talk  15:05, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

You just used a contradictory edit summary; saying you removed non-secondary sources, yet your edit actually removed them. What is with your insistence that the information must be official? ViperSnake151  Talk  16:48, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
@ViperSnake151: I'd like to point out that it's YOU who is claiming ownership at Vegas Golden Knights by not allowing an NHL.com reference to be there. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 19:13, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
But I didn't put in a comment directly in the article all but requesting that users not remove a specific citation. The NHL website is a primary source. I'm not personally claiming ownership of the article, this is just an edit war. It was just fine as is. There is no requirement that all secondary sourced statements must be accompanied by an "official" one. ViperSnake151  Talk  20:51, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
@ViperSnake151: No, there is no requirement, but it should still be listed in the article. YOU are the editor who is edit-warring, not me. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 20:52, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm not even going to continue this argument. Your insistence does not make sense to me; what does this source add that the other two doesn't? ViperSnake151  Talk  21:08, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

So I think it's safe to say that the NHL.com source adds information that the other sources do not. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:25, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Most of this is trivial and does not need to be mentioned. Plus, I saw you tried to sneak it back in as a replacement for the LVRJ source again. ViperSnake151  Talk  16:41, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Spelling error

Where? I'm not going to edit war with you, but it is kind of ridiculous that you're so set on having it a specific way, even though the website says otherwise. I've checked it on several different computers in several different browsers and none of them have it your way. Shouldn't we be going off of the website, not some personal preference? Also, the date shouldn't be changed... you didn't access it today, it was accessed the day they were updated, which was May 2. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 21:37, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: You had spelled "university" wrong. That's what I was trying to fix. Also, when I looked up that reference in Firefox, the title of the webpage read like this:

Colors | University Relations and Marketing | Oregon State University

That's why I tried to update it that way at Module:College color/data. The reference can be found here. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:52, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: I just wanted to let you know that I fixed the accessdate for the reference for the Oregon State Beavers at Module:College color/data. Here's the diff. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 17:33, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Boise State

Although it is pretty clear from the websites and guides, I'll go ahead and contact Boise State athletics. I'm not gonna edit war with you any longer because quite frankly I'm tired of it. Even Helen Keller would be able to tell academics and athletics use two different colors. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 20:53, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: Yeah, I'm going to disagree with you here. According to Boise State's Logo Art Sheet and Boise State's Brand Standards, the Pantone colors for the institution and its athletic department are the same: PMS 286 for blue ( #0039A6 ) and PMS 172 for orange ( #F9461C ). However, this URL spells out the digital HEX color codes, so that's what I decided to use to represent Boise State at Module:College color/data. However, I'm not opposed to you contacting the Boise State Broncos athletic department to find out what the colors really are. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:35, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
Boise Athletics uses the CMYK codes, which will produce a different he's code. I think that's pretty clear. I'm still waiting for green to respond. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 21:40, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: I know that the CMYK color values are what is listed in that PDF; however, I strongly recommend looking at Boise State's Logo Art Sheet a little closer. There are 2 pages in that reference (one each for athletics and academics). If you do, you'll notice that the Pantone colors for both athletics and academics are the exact same. There is no way that the color codes are different between the athletics department and the institution. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 05:36, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: I looked it up. Boise State's colors are Pantone 286 (which is a shared color with the Kentucky Wildcats, and is rendered as HTML  #0033A0 ), and Pantone 172 (which is a shared color with the Florida Gators, and is rendered as HTML  #FA4616 ). I just updated the values for Boise State at Module:College color/data to reflect this. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 19:54, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
I still disagree with that. It is not a good representation of Boise State's colors. Let's wait until we can get a response from them this week. We don't need to be using other schools' colors unless it is confirmed by Boise State themselves. The CMYK nor the RGB codes match Pantone's codes. This is why the schools list the RGB and CMYK because they may not use an exact hex code from Pantone. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 20:32, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Check your e-mail. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 03:18, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
I saw the email, but different programs show different codes. my program shows the ones I've listed, so we're going to disagree until they respond. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 16:51, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: I saw the e-mails you sent me. Thank you for your due diligence. I'm truly sorry for any problems I might have caused you with this. I just want to say that I strive for accuracy, and so sometimes that gets me in trouble and editing disputes with other editors. I wish I could apologize to ViperSnake151 for personally attacking them. It was wrong of me, and I apologize deeply and profusely. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:37, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. — JJBers 16:52, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week for making personal attacks towards other editors. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bishonen | talk 17:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I admit to and am truly sorry for causing any editing disruption and for using personal attacks against other editors. I was clearly frustrated. I admit to all of the allegations and charges brought against me, including edit-warring and any/all allegations of claiming ownership of the Vegas Golden Knights article. I was simply trying to add primary URL sources. I'm sorry. I know that what I did was wrong, and that I should have taken my disagreements to the talk page of the appropriate article. I failed to assume good faith with other editors, and for that I'm truly sorry. There is not any excuse that can or should justify or condone my behavior. All I am asking for in this unblock request is for an opportunity to prove that I will never again cause any disruptive editing, and an opportunity to do better in collaborating with other editors. My purpose in editing Wikipedia is to help build a better encyclopedia. I promise to try to learn from my past mistakes in dealing with other editors, even if this unblock request is not successfully appealed. I promise to not resort to attacking other editors if they do not agree with what I am trying to accomplish in my editing. It was wrong of me to do that, and for that I also apologize deeply and profusely. I also promise to try as best I can to assume good faith toward other editors, as they have towards me. I simply would like an opportunity to earn back the trust of other administrators. I will completely understand if this unblock request is not successfully appealed, and I will try to show maturity by waiting for it to expire if it is not successfully appealed, and then trying to make useful contributions that have reached the consensus of other editors. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:50, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Decline reason:

At first glance I thought I was fairly likely to accept this unblock request, as you really did seem to genuinely acknowledge your faults and be willing to avoid doing the same again. I started to doubt that reading, though, when I saw your infantile and intemperate comments in the ANI thread. Experience over the years suggests that when an editor who rants defiantly when his faults are under discussion, but miraculously becomes penitent when he is actually blocked, his repentance should often be taken with a degree of scepticism. However, all such doubts disappeared when I read your unblock requests from your previous blocks. Yes, you can keep saying "I'm truly sorry and I won't do it again" every time you are blocked and then go ahead and do it again, but you can scarcely expect your word to be accepted when you have cried wolf so many times. In my opinion the only aspect of this block which could reasonably be subject to review is the fact that it is for such a short time, in view of your history. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:53, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There are two issues here. One is your incivility. The second one is your placing of "do not remove" comments in articles. What is your justification for doing this? --NeilN talk to me 13:21, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Definitely falls under Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Hidden_text#Inappropriate_uses_for_hidden_text.—Bagumba (talk) 18:19, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
@NeilN and Bagumba: First, I sincerely apologize for my incivility. It was wrong of me to use profane language toward another editor (in this case, ViperSnake151). I have apologized to them for that. I was clearly experiencing a temper meltdown. I should not have resorted to personal attacks; instead, what I should have done is taken my grievances to the Vegas Golden Knights talk page. I also should have attempted to initiate a civil discussion there with the help of other editors not involved in the dispute in hopes of reaching consensus regarding my proposed added sources. I should not have attempted to unilaterally re-insert the URL sources I wanted included in the main Vegas Golden Knights article. I personally failed to read the community guidelines, and I'm sorry. That is a failing of mine. I promise to do better. Second, the reason why I had been placing "do not remove" comments in articles is because I simply wanted to ensure that the sources I added would remain in the articles I had edited. I failed to read the Manual of Style. I understand now why other editors thought I was trying to claim ownership of every article I did that for. It was wrong of me to do that. I understand better that "work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used and redistributed–by anyone." There is no justification for me trying to place "do not remove" comments in the articles I had edited, and I will learn from that by not doing it again in the future. I recognize that I do not own any Wikipedia articles, and that sometimes, other editors will disagree with my edits. I promise to learn from my mistakes in collaborating with other editors. There is no justification for my behavior. What I'm saying is, in the spirit of trying to become a better editor, I should and will take some time to read the Manual of Style, and other community guidelines, including the guidelines for not attacking other editors, which I now know can cause me to be blocked from editing. Third, the ANI thread is indicative of how poorly I have behaved recently, and I'm deeply sorry. I propose to become a better editor and learn from this block by not engaging in edit-wars with other editors when my edits are reverted in the future. Instead, I will do better to take my future grievances to the relevant talk page, and reach out to other uninvolved editors in hopes of reaching a resolution and consensus whenever I am involved in an edit dispute in the future. Further, I propose to do better to not resort to using personal attacks toward other editors in the future. If the editing gets too heated, I will learn to simply stop editing and let the situation cool down. After that happens, I promise not to resume that specific behavior. Once again, I am truly sorry for my poor behavior. It was unwarranted, unnecessary, and inexcusable, and I apologize profusely. I plan to learn from this experience. I plan to change, and I plan to immediately stop the behavior that got me blocked in the first place, even if this unblock request is unsuccessful. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 07:37, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
@NeilN, Bagumba, and Bishonen: Is there any way an administrator could please review my editing unblock request? I'm truly sorry for what happened, and I'm very sorry for the harm I may have caused toward ViperSnake151. It was totally uncalled for. I take full and complete responsibility for my actions and the consequences that came from them as a result. I pledge to do my best to not let this situation occur again. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 07:56, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Images on Commons

Charles, I am going to ask you to go through your uploads on Commons and make some changes. You are not the author of the images, nor are you the owner. I first noticed this when you uploaded File:Utah Jazz wordmark logo.png, which is a raster duplication of File:Utah Jazz logo (2016).svg and a non-free image that should not appear on Commons. I've tagged it for deletion. I noticed you've also uploaded various uniforms, as well. NFL uniforms that you've uploaded should be uploaded to Wikipedia as a {{Non-free sports uniform}} because you did not create them yourself and you retrieved them from NFLCommunications.com. The only changes you may have made is the color (which still does not make you the author or owner). Thus, a majority of the logos on the helmets and uniforms themselves are non-free which automatically bans it from Commons unless there is permission given by the organization(s) that is sent to the OTRS team. I can't speak much on the NBA uniforms since I'm not sure if they were retrieved from somewhere else, but if did you retrieved them from a website like the NFL uniforms, they need to be uploaded to Wikipedia as well under {{Non-free sports uniform}}... especially if they have a non-free logo. If you don't want to go through them, I will. Uploading non-free images and copyrighted works to Commons can get you blocked. If you don't want to go through the short list, I will... Thanks, Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 22:20, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: OK, thanks for letting me know. Could you please delete whatever doesn't comply from Commons, and then go through the NFL team uniforms and re-upload them via {{Non-free sports uniform}}? I really don't know or have the time to go through it myself. I really don't know what is acceptable and what complies with the non-free criteria. I don't want to get blocked over this, so I guess go ahead. Do what you must. I can tell you that the NBA team uniforms came from images I downloaded from Chris Creamer's SportsLogos.net. I then combined the uniforms into one composite image using Microsoft Paint. I don't know if it constitutes a violation of the non-free criteria, but if the NBA team uniform files do violate the non-free criteria, then I guess go ahead and delete them also. I just don't know how to upload them without violating the non-free criteria. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:32, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Also, is there a keyboard shortcut I can use in Commons so that I can delete the files myself? How can I delete the files myself? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:36, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
The NBA uniforms will need to be uploaded to Wikipedia since you retrieved them from another website. Since they are going to be uploaded to Wikipedia under a non-free license, they can only be used in the primary articles (i.e. File:Composite Indianapolis Colts uniforms.png would only be allowed in the Indianapolis Colts article). As for deleting, you can request a deletion by author (original uploader) by using this template: Template:SDG7. Only administrators are allowed to delete the files. As for non-free images vs. commons images, it is pretty simple. Commons only allows works released in the Public Domain – Photographs taken by the Federal Government, images (sometimes logos) granted permission by the copyright owner that sent a request into the OTRS team, and works that are too simple to be copyrighted (wordmarks). Non-free images are the opposite and a good example is the NCAA athletic teams logos. Example: File:KSUWildcats logo.svg can only be used in the Kansas State Wildcats article, so we use the school's wordmark instead because it is below the threshold of originality and in the Public Domain. You can read more at Commons:Licensing and Wikipedia:Non-free content. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 22:56, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: OK, I have now tagged all non-free uniform files for deletion using Template:SDG7. I hope I do not get blocked over this. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:14, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
You shouldn't be. You might want to fill out the reason field in the template so that there is a reasonable explanation as to why you want it deleted. One sentence should be enough. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 00:00, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Too simple to be non-free. Should have {{Information}} summary and {{PD-text}} as the license. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:06, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: OK, so what should I do and how should I go about it to keep the file used on Wikipedia? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 00:12, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:Detroit Pistons primary logo 2017.png

The file File:Detroit Pistons primary logo 2017.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Equivalent File media is free at Commons. This is mostly simple text. Not F8 owing to the differing licenses.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. @N1cky: I'm fairly certain these color codes are correct. I based them off this URL from Stats.NBA.com, which is fairly reliable (right-click on the logo colors and select 'Inspect Element (Q)' on each color to find out the exact HTML color code). Of course, we won't know for sure until the Pistons' Reproduction Guideline Sheet is updated, which probably won't happen until sometime between either the conclusion of the NBA Finals or the start of the NBA Draft. Cavs and minor edits

Two quick things: 1) the NBA licensing guide currently used in the Cleveland Cavaliers article actually identifies the Cavs' gold color as "Cavaliers yellow" instead of gold. It's from August 2016, so we can assume it's the most recent and most accurate. As a Cavs fan who lives in Northeast Ohio, though, I can tell you it's most often referred to by the team and media as the "wine and gold". I'd leave it where it is since the colors will get an update anyway once the season ends, which looks to be very soon :(.

2) Also, a minor edit is something like adding wikilinks to a word or phrase, correcting a typo, adding punctuation, etc. Whenever you change the content of the article (like changing a source or words), though, even in a small way, that shouldn't be tagged as a minor edit. From the help page: "A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous versions. Examples include typographical corrections, formatting and presentational changes, and rearrangements of text without modification of its content. A minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute." --JonRidinger (talk) 15:57, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

University vs. University system websites

Make sure you're on the right website – Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University System are two different entities. Texas Tech University is www.ttu.edu (brand website), and Texas Tech University System is www.texastech.edu (brand website). Yes, they're both the same, but they are two different entities. @Corkythehornetfan: OK. I must have forgotten about that. I was only trying to help. Feel free to revert my edits at Module:College color/data at any time. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 04:04, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Maryland colors

I've reverted your edits at the module. IMO, the athletics website is more reliable considering this is for the athletics teams. They list a different PMS number and it shows with the pdfs and on the athletics website. See my exit here. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 05:21, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

OK, I was just trying to edit in good faith. Thanks for the explanation. So I looked at that URL reference for Maryland being used at Module:College color/data and I right-clicked on the red text and selected 'Inspect Element (Q)' in Firefox. The HTML color code being used for that that was displayed was  #CF102D  for Red. I then did the same thing for the yellow text titled Terrapin Athletics (the HTML color code displayed was  #FFCD23  for Gold). Care to look into this? I just want accurate HTML color codes to be displayed at Module:College color/data. I don't want to engage in an edit-war with you over this. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:06, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
I only listed the colors inkscape provided me, which were close to the pantone.com color finder. I've tried contacting the athletics dept on several occasions and have gotten no response. You're tool has been pretty accurate, so I'm fine with the changing the codes to those provided above. The name of the reference is the title of the webpage so that is why it is titled that way. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 06:16, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
OK, thanks for your due diligence here. It sucks that the Maryland Terrapins athletics department won't respond to your messages. Thanks for your explanations. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:27, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Could you please change the HTML color codes for Maryland at Module:College color/data? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 14:31, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Template editor

You should request Wikipedia:Template editor rights so you don't have to make a request each time. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 23:57, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

@WikiOriginal-9: Yeah, I would, but I looked into that. One of the guidelines for Wikipedia granting me template editor rights is that I can't have had a recent editing block for six (6) months. My last editing block was a little more than one (1) month ago. I'll have to wait until at least October or November 2017 to apply again, provided I don't get blocked for edit-warring again, which I'm going to do everything in my power and ability to avoid. One of my editing goals on Wikipedia is to avoid being blocked for edit-warring and for being uncivil, which is what I got blocked for the last time. I'm going to do better to edit with consensus reached by other editors. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 04:00, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – Train2104 (t • c) 00:01, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Oregon Ducks

What's your opinion on changing the Oregon Ducks colors to #004f39 ( #004f39 ) and #fbe021 ( #fbe021 ) as shown on the inspect element tool? My reason for disagreeing with what they sent via email is that it is pretty evident that based off of their websites, pdfs, etc., they don't use #00934B ( #00934B ). Thoughts? Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 21:06, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

I'm not opposed to you changing the colors for the Oregon Ducks over at Module:College color/data, so long as the colors are color contrast-compliant. I think the websites and PDFs are more accurate myself. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:31, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Of course it's compliant. I'll go ahead and make the change. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 02:29, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
If you're still seeing the old code, you may need to purge your web browser by adding ?action=purge at the end of the url in the article. Also, {{NCAA color cell}} and {{NCAA secondary color cell}} use automatic contrast like the infoboxed, so adding |color=white is not needed. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 06:40, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

College templates

Charles, I know I've asked you once, so I'm going to ask you again: If you color formatting in the module for a team, you need to change all of them for the athletcs. Don't just update the main template(s). They won't be synced that way and screws everything up. If you don't want to update them all, then don't update the module. It's plain and simple. Thanks, Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 03:46, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

OK, I'll try to remember to sync all the templates once I've updated the colors at Module:College color/data. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 17:03, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

MLB Pressbox

Are the links to the MLBStyleGuide.com working for you at http://pressbox.mlb.com? They were working last week but now I get an error saying the website is down... I'm hoping it isn't just me who is having this issue! Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 03:25, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: Just go to this version of MLBStyleGuide.com. I just checked it, and it's working. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 03:28, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, it still isn't working for me. I'm going to email them to see what's up. Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 13:16, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Yeah, I just checked it myself. It appears that that part of MLBPressbox.com is down. It isn't working for me either. Let me know if and/or when you get an e-mail response from MLB about it. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 16:50, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
I forgot to email them, but the website looks like it's back up and running again! Corky Buzz by the Hornet's Nest 23:49, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Composite Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms.png

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Ahecht (TALK

Ottawa Redblacks

Are you sure their primary color isn't black? Thanks. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 01:18, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Vancouver Canucks colors

I would like to know where did you get the Canucks' color codes from? – Sabbatino (talk) 20:04, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

@Sabbatino: I found out the HTML color codes for the Vancouver Canucks at the team's website. I right-clicked and selected 'Inspect' in Google Chrome on the text "Follow the Canucks" to find out what the HTML color code was for green. It's  #008852 . For the blue color code, I right-clicked on the logo at the top of the page and selected 'Open image in new tab'. That led me to this URL. I then right-clicked on the text in the logo and selected 'Inspect' in Chrome to find out what the HTML color code was for blue. It's  #001F5B . Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:54, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification. I was only curious where you got the green color code since blue color code came straight from the logo as I was the one who uploaded it. – Sabbatino (talk) 08:30, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mas que Nada, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nike (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
