copyright violation
editPlease do not replace the logo on the g-mail userbox. Copyrighted material is often used on wikipedia under a 'fair use' claim. However, that claim is not extended to userspace or templates. See WP:FUC for details. Thanks. --Doc ask? 00:33, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Houston Area Independent Schools
editYou added the template for listing the template for deletion here [1], yet I do not see the template on the deletion page. WhisperToMe 01:10, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Image:Nocopyright.gif listed for deletion
editAn image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Nocopyright.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Peter O. Blocking
editI can't block anyone. If you think an admin should block a particular user then you need to list them here. But only after they've recieved a last warning. (Anyone can issue this.)CJ 13:26, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Testpattern001.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Testpattern001.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:36, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
March 2010
editGreetings! Thank you for filing an Abuse Report for abusive behavior originating from 86.41.109.114. Unfortunately, there was a problem with your filing and it has been rejected. Please see Wikipedia:Abuse response/86.41.109.114 for details on why the filing was rejected. You may also review filing criteria for abuse reports filings. This abuse report has been rejected because: Not enough blocks on this IP. Please re-list when there are at least five blocks. Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Body cavity search: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Avicennasis @ 01:24, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
RfA
editHey, I'm afraid I've closed Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Chrisbrl88 as unsuccessful per the essay WP:NOTNOW before it got unpleasant. IF you want rollback rights, please feel free to continue the chat over on my talk page. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 10:34, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Things to get experience
editThere are a lot of facilities and resources available on Wikipedia, and it could be a good idea to learn about what is here. On the side of uploading, in the past you had a bit of trouble with the non free content. You should upload some non free content that is under fair use. it should have a valid fair use rationale and be used in an article. If you look around you should be able to find a logo, book cover, or album cover to include. Also you should contribute some free files at WP:commons.
You should create an article on a topic that you like and put several day's work into it. The whole idea here is to build an encyclopedia. You should join one or more projects, and learn to work in a collaborative way with other people. Use discussion to form a consensus, and improve the work of others.
On the new page patrol, you can add appropriate categories, stub templates, links and fix errors. You can nominate things for deletion, and notify the contributors. See if you can help a contributor to do something useful instead of useless. With vandals there should be appropriate warnings and reports to WP:AIV. You should identify articles that are targets for vandals or spammers and request page protection. You can nominate urls for Wikipedia:Spam blacklist. Participate in WP:AFD to argue for things that should be kept or deleted.
You should read a few WP:RFA's and express some opinions at other people's RFAs. If you look at the sucessful ones you should get an idea as to what is required. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Rollback
editHello, per your request, I've granted you Rollback rights! Just remember:
- Rollback gives you access to certain tools, including Huggle, some of which can be very powerful, so exercise caution
- Rollback is only for blatant vandalism
- Having Rollback rights does not give you any special status or authority
- Misuse of Rollback can lead to its removal by any administrator
- Please read Help:Reverting and Wikipedia:Rollback feature to get to know the workings of the feature
- You can test Rollback at Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback
- You may wish to display the {{User wikipedia/rollback}} userbox and/or the {{Rollback}} top icon on your user page
- If you have any questions, please do let me know. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:01, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Just my standard template, but it contains everything you need to know. I also suggest installing Twinkle to help you warn vandals. If you give them a final warning and they keep vandalising, you can report them to WP:AIV for an admin to review and block. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:01, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Can you please explain why you blanked this AFD? Is there another open deletion discussion for this article? --Ron Ritzman (talk) 12:56, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- There is only one AFD discussion page for this article but I just found out it was transcluded twice on the log. You probably thought there were 2 AFDs and blanked what you thought was a second one.
- The next time you see something like that, edit the log page and look for the line that looks like this..
- {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Articlename}}
- that appears twice and remove one of them. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 13:11, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oops. Total accident - I thought I was removing a duplicate entry and that by the time I had refreshed, someone else had deleted the article and the AFD. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Chrisbrl88 (talk) 19:54, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Please excuse me for expressing my attitude: I hate it when people disfigure articles by putting big ugly article tags at the top of them. I just don't understand why anybody would feel that this is a positive thing to do. Aren't the citation needed tags sufficient? Looie496 (talk) 20:53, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Notification of automated file description generation
editYour upload of File:Bandbox.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Template:NoCopyright listed at Redirects for discussion
editAn editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Template:NoCopyright. Since you had some involvement with the Template:NoCopyright redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 09:42, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
Janis Joplin discussion
editHello, Chrisbrl88, and thank you for your contribution to Talk:Janis_Joplin#"...one_of_the_most_successful_and_widely_known_female_rock_stars_of_her_era.". I like that you included a reference in your suggested wording. However, using the "<ref>" tag caused the link to drop to the bottom of the page, formatted as a reference footnote. I took the liberty of surrounding that with "<nowiki>" tags to stop that behaviour. I hope I didn't change the meaning of your comment, and I hope you don't mind the change. Best regards, --Jdlh | Talk 21:44, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
