- Hello Cjr100B--it appears that you are the instructor who's been guiding new editors toward article creation on Wikipedia. That is a very laudable objective, but there are a few issues here, and they've been discussed by a number of editors on an administrator's talk page, User_talk:Dennis_Brown#Curious_about_some_new_articles. Please have a look. I'll summarize the issues for you in a nutshell:
- a. the article appear to all be on topics that are not notable by Wikipedia's standards, and as such they are very likely to be deleted. Precise criteria and all that cannot be summarized in a sentence, but reading WP:N will give you some idea of what notability per our guidelines means--simply put, it is unlikely that a subject known to posterity only from being written up in the FWP is notable by our standards.
- b. given our suspicion that this was an educational assignment, regular deletion procedures were halted for the while, but at some point they will be resumed and those articles will be tagged and possibly deleted.
- c. we are investigating options to post this information on other Wiki projects, such as Wikiversity, so that it does not go to waste.
- We really need you to participate in the discussion--without such input, the information is likely to be removed quickly. You can post your questions there: there's a half a dozen Wikipedia editors waiting for you and with every intention of helping you and your students out. - Hi Drmies--thank you for your comments and your efforts to contact me so that my students' pages do no get deleted - they were so excited and proud to have created them. Yes, this was a class project for my students in their Freshmen Composition course at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I am quite familiar with the Wikipedia guidelines, and was wondering if we would run into trouble with the notability requirement. I was hoping to make the case, however, that I believe that these biographies are quite notable given the guidelines. I had students (and of course some did this better than others) use at least 5 reputable sources (meeting wiki guidelines) that added details to the life story in the FWP interview. Additionally, these FWP interviews are written about by countless scholars as they document the complex social context of the Great Depression era, including many ex-slaves narratives and details of the extreme poverty of the time. I would really hate to have these pages taken down, so I am open to advice. Thank you. Cjr100B (talk) 17:59, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Cjr100B, I'll respond in some detail at User_talk:Dennis_Brown#Curious_about_some_new_articles, where the consensus seems to be that they are not OK for Wikipedia but OK for Wikiversity. Please have a look at that (entire) discussion, which is a bit long by now. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 18:13, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Move
editI have begun moving those articles to your user space; you can find them here. Since they are not appropriate for the main space (indeed, a few of them have been deleted already per Wikipedia's guidelines for notability) they can't stay there. As discussed on Dennis Brown's talk page, they might could be moved to Wikiversity, and perhaps another editor can help you with that. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 18:41, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Re: Orange County Training School
editHello, many of your students have been violating the Manual of Style about linking, which is a highly nuanced guideline. Getting students to add links in the article namespace is a really really bad idea. I blocked the students because I had no idea what was coming next or how to get in contact with an instructor. Please use the WikiEdu dashboard to organise your courses; I believe this is a good place to start. Graham87 19:41, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'll unblock them now that I'm in touch with you. Here's the list of students I have, for public reference:
