Notice of Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents discussion

[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Edit reversion, no consent. In solidarity, Blue-Sonnet (I'm listening) 08:57, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

BTW This is an educated guess as the report isn't clear at all... I thought I'd better let you know since you're the first person to revert them. In solidarity, Blue-Sonnet (I'm listening) 08:58, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Blue-Sonnet thanks for the heads up. I actually wasn't the first person to revert them chronologically; I may have been the person who reverted their earliest edit, but I actually made that revert after seeing their ANI post and reviewing some of their edits in response. Some of their later edits were already reverted at that time, including some reversions by ClueBot. But thanks for letting me know. CodeTalker (talk) 15:39, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
No problem - in retrospect, they were probably talking about ClueBot all along! In solidarity, Blue-Sonnet (I'm listening) 16:38, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Chris Mccandless

[edit]

Hey man, why didja revert my edit on transcendentalism, man? Like, what's your problem, man? Public guava (talk) 09:24, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Public guava Transcendentalism is a literary and philosophical movement in the early to mid 1800s. Chris McCandless lived 150 years later, and as far as I can see, never published anything. Just being inspired by Transcendentalism doesn't make him a transcendentalist, and he's certainly not a "major figure" in Transcendentalism. If you disagree, open a discussion on the article's talk page and make your case there. CodeTalker (talk) 16:01, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Sorry 'bout that. Goodbye Public guava (talk) 22:10, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

[edit]

Look, I understand that the ants in A Bug's Life are fictional ants, but I just wanted to make it clear that they were based on a certain common species of ants or something, but maybe not, but which ant species would you say could've been a more realistic inspiration for these ants, despite them being fictional, because there are honestly many different types of ants like Argentine ants, Black garden ants, Carpenter ants, Field ants, Fire ants, and Pavement ants, and these were just the most common ones I could think of, but do you think the ants (despite having only four limbs, and mammalian eyes) were possibly based on Field ants or something? because they were a little bigger than Tuck and Roll the pill-bugs, and Francis the ladybug, but smaller than the other characters. or are they more realistically based on a smaller common species of ants? I'm not asking if they are real ants, I'm asking what they are possibly based on is all. Brayden Lockhart (talk) 22:15, 23 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Yellow King

[edit]

Sorry for the source, but The King in Yellow is also cited in the Fear & Hunger page, can I use it alone? ToxinDemon (talk) 21:51, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@ToxinDemon I'm not sure what you mean. I don't see any mention of the King in Yellow on the Wikipedia page Fear & Hunger. I do see a mention of a character called "Le'garde/The Yellow King from the original game"; is that what you're referring to? There's no indication that this character has any relation to the King in Yellow from Chambers's stories. In any case, you can't use a Wikipedia article as a source for another Wikipedia article (see WP:CIRCULAR). You would need to find a reliable source that explicitly states that the "Yellow King" character is based on Chambers's character. CodeTalker (talk) 22:31, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have an honest question.

[edit]

Look, as much as the characters from A Bug's Life are fictional characters, and aren't supposed to be a certain species, I have a question, How many characters are allowed to be classified as exact species? because It's only Hopper, Dim, and Gypsy who have their likely exact species revealed, specifically a Carolina grasshopper, a European rhinoceros beetle, and a Gypsy moth, how come the others can't be compared to real species, Just curious is all. Brayden Lockhart (talk) 23:35, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Brayden Lockhart, that's a good point. I don't think that those three characters should be identified with an exact species either, unless there is a source that supports that identification. At a quick glance I don't see such sourcing. I don't have the time right now to investigate the issue in more detail. Supposing that those links do not comply with Wikipedia standards, they should be removed, rather than adding more links that don't comply. If you want to investigate those links and remove them if there is insufficient sourcing, that would be fine. CodeTalker (talk) 04:46, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Look, I understand that the ants aren't meant to be certain ant species, but even though their likely ant species basis was never mentioned, what exact species might be the closest match to them? minus their number of limbs, and colorization? and what exact species of butterfly, or moth caterpillar could be a possible match for Heimlich? and don't worry I will not add them to the A Bug's Life page, I'm just putting these in my inspiration notes to myself instead, if that's fine, although, Francis seems like a Seven-spotted ladybug to me for example, just naturally. Brayden Lockhart (talk) 23:25, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I honestly have no idea. I am not an entomologist and have no special expertise in identifying insect species. There are over 6000 species of ladybugs, so even if I see a resemblance between Francis and one particular species, there may be another species with a closer resemblance that I am not familiar with. You may want to find a web site devoted to entomology where you can ask these questions of someone with more expertise in the area. CodeTalker (talk) 23:56, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh, well, Just in case, here's a list of ant species, just in case, pavement ants, Argentine ants, black garden ants, fire ants, harvester ants, and Formica ants, and as for caterpillars, well, here's my list of green caterpillars, tomato hornworm, cabbage white caterpillar, black swallowtail caterpillar, Eastern tiger swallowtail caterpillar, spicebush swallowtail caterpillar, cecropia caterpillar, Emperor caterpillar, polyphemus caterpillar, promethea caterpillar, and white-lined sphinx caterpillar, now, even though these are not all the species of ants, and caterpillars in the world, I'm only asking for one species each for comparison, and like I said before, I'm not putting these into the A Bug's Life page, I'm just saving these two likely exact species to my files instead, so what's your closest guesses? and also, I know you're not an entomologist, but all you have to do is guess, that's all. Brayden Lockhart (talk) 00:10, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here's my list of insect species, just in case you don't know much.

[edit]

Now, Before I add my "close enough" guessed species of insects that likely inspired some of the characters from A Bug's Life to my personal list, Just in case, here's a list of ant species, just in case, pavement ants, Argentine ants, black garden ants, fire ants, harvester ants, Formica ants, and carpenter ants, and as for green caterpillars, well, here's my list of green caterpillars, tomato hornworm, cabbage white caterpillar, black swallowtail caterpillar, Eastern tiger swallowtail caterpillar, spicebush swallowtail caterpillar, cecropia caterpillar, Emperor caterpillar, Luna caterpillar, polyphemus caterpillar, promethea caterpillar, and white-lined sphinx caterpillar, And even though you're not an entomologist, I decided to help you out with how many species I could find that might be close enough, but like I said before, I'm NOT adding these to the A Bug's Life page, Just to my personal files for myself instead, if that's fine, anyway, even though these characters are fictional, and aren't meant to resemble any specific species, what exact species of ant, and green caterpillar could be the most possible comparisons to Flik the ant, and Heimlich the caterpillar each? minus the number of limbs, and their certain color choices? Just curious to what guesses you could come up with, nothing personal, I hope. Brayden Lockhart (talk) 21:00, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
