Manners

Dont go around calling people blind. Dont be so abusive. Or, alternatively, by all means DO be abusive but do not complain if others are abusive back. In case you prefer the latter option, here's a little abuse back: who are you calling blind you dumb arse? Looking at most of your edits you clearly dont know your arse from your face. Stop being such a beligerent POV pusher and go and get a life!!! (See, its easy to be rude. Much better not to be). Can I assume you will be better mannered in futre? Border Campaign

You are correct in saying there was no UK general election in 1956 however the events in Northern Ireland may have confused people. In the 1955 election 2 Sinn Féin candidates were elected - Phil Clarke in Fermanagh / South Tyrone and Thomas Mitchell in Mid Ulster. Being IRA prisoners they were debarred as "convicts" and the elections were held again in May of 1956. Coolavokig (talk) 06:56, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for correcting me, it makes sense now.--Johnbull (talk) 18:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Infamous

Infamy, infamy, they've all got it infamy. Most people regard that leader as infamous - including the originator. Justin talk 22:35, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

But can you not see why I consider it a point of view? I think it far better to just provide a factual description without a value judgement on its merits or its reputation (if the latter had to be included, then "controversial" would have been better).--Johnbull (talk) 22:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
No strong feelings either way but a factual description should include the controversy surrounding the headline. The ambiguous description in the current version would be pushing an agenda. Justin talk 23:14, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Richard Littlejohn

Thank you for reverting vandalism to the page. You might find these template messages handy for warning the vandal. I have blocked them under WP:3RR, technically they should have gone through 4 warnings (but they vandalised 5 times, in quick succession, so I feel justified in giving them a little time to think about their actions). Index to Churchill's Gathering Storm

Over at the Churchill talk page you stated that Churchill didn't write the index to the first edition. I've come across this too, but my trail dead-ended at a David Reynolds article where he didn't give a source for the information. Do you know of a source for the information -- was it private information, common knowledge somewhere, etc? Thanks. RayAYang (talk) 07:04, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Article on SW Alexander

Many thanks for an excellent article on my grandfather. I've added a short paragraph at the end. Hope it matches with your style. Sue Alexander (talk) 17:53, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Tiverton 'edit' reversed

I have reversed your edit of the account of the Chartist Harney standing for Election in Tiverton. I am more than happy to see an addition or constructive editing of this, but yours was a blatant attempt to alter the meaning of the section by adding the term 'a large Chartist crowd' all contemporary reports show that the majority of the population of Tiverton were in full support of the Chartists, indeed Rowcliffe, the local Butcher who nominated Harney, was elected to the Town Council as a Chartist himself. This was not a 'large Chartist crowd' it was a large open meeting at Hustings of the population of Tiverton, which overwhelmingly supported Harney. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trotboy (talkcontribs) 21:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

George III picture question at Ref Desk

Did you ever find out the answer to this question? I'm asking because I'm not entirely sure if you saw the answer I left (I've just been reading through some very old ref desk questions I took part in, because it is easy to forget to go back and check before the question is archived). Field Marshal Haig

You reverted an edit to Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig on 2 July 2009, citing (Revert. Winter has been shown by many historians, Correlli Barnett included, that he falsified documents to support his argument. He is an unreliable source.) It would be really useful if you could put some citations for this (including page numbers) on the talk page. When I read Winter's book many years ago, I thought it was awful; but if you have some citations proving that it is awful, that would be wonderful.--Toddy1 (talk) 08:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Acts of Parliament and other thingies

I just happened to be passing through and saw all the Acts you've been writing about - tremendous work. I also see that you are interested in ecclesiastical history - curiously my last two articles have been an act and an ecclesiastical lawyer! I've got sources to write articles on some other ecclesiastical lawyers, including William Bateman and William Poull/Paull - any chance you've got some sources we could weave in? Ironholds (talk) 15:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

And I just saw Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy Act 1688 as well - great article :). I'm going to get someone to give you the Autoreviewed userright so that your articles are automatically patrolled. Use it wisely, my son :P. Ironholds (talk) 09:16, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks for that :). I've got access to a lot of journals and similar, so if you ever need any help with sourcing an article, give me a poke and I'll see what I can do. Ironholds (talk) 09:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

United Kingdom of Great Britain + (Northern) Ireland

Britannicus, Are you going to condemn me to be burned at the stake next time you catch me messing around with the sovereignty of Ireland??? €:>) Frania W. (talk) 21:03, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Whatever it is Britannicus, please spare me as I promise not to cross the Channel to step upon your... geographical sovereignty. Adieu! Frania W. (talk) 21:32, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Britannicus, the fact of making an error does not keep me from ever touching a subject again when I know there is something worthwhile I can bring to it. Frania W. (talk) 00:35, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
