Progress update
editHi, I'm just checking in, to see how you are getting along - please let me know. Of course, if there's anything I can do to help, give me a shout too. Cheers, Chzz ► 09:05, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Protected reference list
editHiya. In reply to your question on my talk page, Need to know how to add a reference to a protected reference list. Cookeri6 (talk) 02:57, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
There's no such thing as a 'protected reference list' - sections cannot be protected.
I guess that perhaps you're expecting the reference details to appear in the references section - they do not.
Instead, the references appear in the body text, directly after a fact, in-between <ref> and </ref>. They then automatically appear at the end, where there is a {{reflist}}.
The sections below should help explain more. Cheers, Chzz ► 08:50, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
How references work
editSimple references
editThese require two parts;
- a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
- b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References == {{reflist}}
(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)
To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Cookeri6/reftest and try it out.
Named references
editChzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
editYou can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;
Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref>
Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.
For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

DYK for Metallica v. Napster, Inc.
editOn 15 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Metallica v. Napster, Inc., which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Metallica v. Napster, Inc. was the first case that involved an artist suing a P2P software company? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
