Huge compassionate wolfly hug | |
I have such mixed feelings :o( I have the most immense affection and respect for you, and I really, really feel for what this past week or so must have been like for you, with health issues on top of everything else. I hope you can forgive me; what I was hoping would eventually happen was just that you could immediately re-do (and pass) RfA, almost as a kind of vote of community confidence, but acknowledging that it would have been wiser to let someone else take any action required (if any) in that instance. We all make the occasional goof (particularly when not at our best in Real Life). I have the utmost faith that you wouldn't do exactly the same thing in the same way again, and that is probably enough. Life is such a bitch sometimes. Mega, mega hugz; and please don't hate me. Hey :). You're being contacted because you are involved in the ACC process, or participated in the original discussion in '08 about the ConfirmAccount extension. - They weren't even ready to be IN the main space. They were manually copied over from my user space with out telling me they were manually copied and tables were inserted and a lead was written. A little bit was added to the information box, but it wasn't complete. In at least TWO cases, I am almost completely certain the articles are about teams that may not exist. (I've yet to find proof of it.) Ideally, what is needed is for the the main space version to be deleted or merged into my user space with the main space one then deleted. --LauraHale (talk) 07:56, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Help on the Article [1]
Can you please give a warning on the non-registered user that keeps deleting the most controversial part of the article? I thought in warning him about that, since he can be blocked from editing it or at least he should give his reasons why he keeps on deleting that part of the article, which rely on a Reliable Source, but I think it would be better if an administrator did it instead. Regards!Mistico (talk) 17:20, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- The IP is entirely right here. The sourcing for those claims varies between vague and non-existant, and they are serious accusations in a BLP. I've reverted your re-adding them, and consider yourself warned against putting or reinserting that kind of utter crap in a WP:BLP without iron-clad sourcing. Courcelles 19:15, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
You didn't needed to be so rude. There are dozens of news references about the alleged complicity or silence of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda in the Rwanda Genocide. This deserves to be mentioned in the entry. Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini does have a book and I think it might mention some of the controversy in it. I see you have some health problems, I might ask other administrator some help in showing it in a acceptable way in the article. Don't worry, I will not going to reinsert what was deleted. Mistico (talk) 21:39, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't intend to be rude, and that P really should have been more communicative with what the problems are, but the material he was removing wasn't sourced in a BLP compliant way. And, yeah, it looks like this actually does belong in this biography (I have a reading familiarity ith the Rwandan Genocide, so I know it fits), just much better sourced, and without taking a side, per NPOV. Courcelles 04:42, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
The anonymous user I think is really from Rwanda and he feels morally obliged to deffend Augustin Nshamihigo from the charges made against him. I never intended to judge or condemn anyone while editing the article. But the charges for his action during the Rwanda genocide in 1994 really exist and are very serious, since no less his successor admits them. I had quoted Emmanuel Kolini book Christ Walks Where Evil Reigned: Responding to the Rwandan Genocide for the article: "A number of Christian leaders during the 1980s and 1990s had previously been military chaplains, giving them close connection to the army. When the 1994 genocide started, many of them cooperated with the army. Even Anglican Archbishop Augustine (sic) Nshamihigo was implicated and is still on the run. The church [Episcopal Church of Rwanda] accused him and two other bishops of being errand boys for the government. They made a special tour in 1994 to speak to the media in Nairobi, Canada, England, and the United States, denying during the genocide that there were any killings. The Rwandan Church was corrupt." (p. 127) The anonymous user wrote me back in very confusing and passionate therms, of which I mostly understood that he takes the side of Augustin Nshamihigo and denies all that his claimed against him. While I agree that would be important to show a source about the claims made against him, even by his own successor, I also have to agree that Nshamihigo has all the right to deffend himself of these charges. Since that to present only the quote of Kolini would seem too one-sided and it eventually would be deleted again, I decided to leave the article as it was until some other people are able to explain the facts more accurately.Mistico (talk) 00:35, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool
Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.
For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:11, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Please check this page again, you shortened my protection, while telling the log you were extending it. Did you miss I set the expiry in April of 2013 by chance? Courcelles 05:02, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Nice catch, and entirely correct. I was already wondering why there was a 1-day semi protection as it seemed so incredibly short in this case - The 2013 kind of explains that though. I reset the protection back to its old 2013 expiry as well. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 06:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Nadine Coyle
Regarding your edit [2], see Talk:Nadine_Coyle#Nadine_Coyle_is_Irish and Talk:Nadine_Coyle#Irish (particularly my comment to the latter I just added). What do you think? Cheers, JoeSperrazza (talk) 15:26, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- A basic idea of our category system is that an article should be in a parent category or a subcategory, not both. SO, the usual rules of category maintenance say that either Category:Irish female singers can stay, or Category:Female singers from Northern Ireland. If there's good reason to revert, well, go ahead, but that's how categories are apposed to work, articles are put as far down the tree in subcategories as they can be, and higher level categories are filled with articles that can go no further down, all the way back up to Category:Contents. Like I said, if there's good reason for an exception, so be it, but it looked like standard WP:OCAT maintenance to me. Courcelles 16:39, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the explanation. I completely agree. I had not noticed the article included Category:Female singers from Northern Ireland already. Given that, I'll redo your edit. Thanks again, JoeSperrazza (talk) 17:24, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Hey Courcelles!
How are you?
I'm looking for your advice on this please. This user has a sockpuppet tag on their userpage but from what I can see there has never been anything done at SPI and the account is still very active. The edits also smack of sockpuppetry to me, they've moved Callum Stone back into a list article for no reason and an IP did the same thing to Dale Smith (The Bill). They also changed the image on The Bill's article, they said it was the full image from the final title card when it wasn't. I've since removed that image and I've rev del'd it because it looked like a copyright violation to me. I'm not sure if there's a reason why the user only seems to be tagged and nothing else done, can you please look into this or advise on what I should do?--5 albert square (talk) 10:48, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Not to worry, I've filed an SPI after speaking to the tagging editor and I've just blocked the user myself, they quacked too much--5 albert square (talk) 15:19, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, Albie, I assume at this point, the SPI has worked its wa through, but if it hasn't, let me know? Courcelles 21:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

User:Pine/drafts/ENWP Board of Education
You may want to read and comment on User:Pine/drafts/ENWP Board of Education. It proposes amongst other things creating a body that is parallel but does not compete with ArbCom. --LauraHale (talk) 05:40, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- What in the world? I'm not involved with any of the school outreach projects, so this seems from left field to me. Really, the thing that glares out at me is that any body that doesn't have access to the CU data and tool would be proposed to have authority to direct IP blocking. It isn't like the CU's could hand over the IP's accounts in these programs are using, either. I know the IEP was a disaster, but someone needs to rewrite that in line with m:Privacy Policy and m:Checkuser policy. Courcelles 06:13, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. I've reached out to arbiters but this is the first detailed comment that I've seen. I will rewrite that particular section of the policy to clarify that CUs won't be handing out IP data to WEP and to try to make it more clearly in compliance with the two policies that you linked. Pine(talk) 06:38, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. Like I said, education projects aren't something I've put time into on WP, so I'm the wrong person to talk to about the meat of the proposal. It is also entirely possible that at least one CU would apply for that group, which may be able to "straddle the line", to use their CU tools when problems justify it, but not share the data to the non-CU members of the body. (To be perfectly honest, I can't see ArbCom having any involvement with this proposal other than the sort I just gave you, this is far more a community and WMF issue, though ArbCom does have the role of insuring the privacy and checkuser policies are followed (a role we share with the global ombudsmen.) Maybe there is somthing my 3 AM brain isn't anticiating, but that's how I see it as of now. Courcelles 06:51, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is roughly how I see this proposal also. Please get some sleep if you need it. The proposal will likely be in draft form for at least a few more weeks, so there is plenty of time think about this and comment when you feel more awake. Pine(talk) 07:17, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Moldova is represented in Serbia through its embassy in Sofia (Bulgaria). Serbia is represented in Moldova through its embassy in Kiev (Ukraine).". Courcelles 20:04, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
CU Decline
Not planning on edit-warring, just discussing. It's just frustrating: what level of evidence would I have to bring that A Nobody had been using an IP to justify a sweep of accounts using that IP? Or is your feeling that I would have to chase down named accounts one at a time and then link them behaviourally to A Nobody one at a time? It certainly seems like a painful path when we know that a banned editor with a history of socking has been using an IP address, and it doesn't seem to be a path mandated by our privacy policy.—Kww(talk) 19:03, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- The problem isn't that I can't run the CU, it is that I couldn't report my results on the SPI. Anything I found, I'd have to block privately using a
{{checksuerblock-account}}
if it was necessary. It is a subtle distinction, but I can say "I ran a CU and account Foo is master Bar, but not publicly connecting it through an IP address unless there's good reason. It is alos a distinction our SPI process isn't well designed to handle. (Per that, I ran the IP's mself, and I actuall can report that I didn't find anything of interest.) I hope your health is improving at an acceptable rate, and that you have any painkillers required! In this day and age (as my GP says) there is almost no reason why any of us should have to suffer pain, with so many different options available to us. Pesky (talk) 19:35, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm sure someone moves my work chair and monitor further apart each time I come back... and I have this problem even with these new glasses. Perhaps I should complain to Arbcom about it...? BencherliteTalk 18:44, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sure it's a conspiracy and there's someone to blame. Pine(talk) 21:29, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- You're all welcome to try swapping bodies with me, lol! I had major surgery on my neck a few weeks ago (the fifteenth op in three years), and I have another two surgeries already lined up for this year! No takers, then ...? Pesky (talk) 10:42, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- I think I'm going to have to pass. My neck might be one pody part that actuallyworks as intended on me! Courcelles 14:31, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure what the intentions were when I was designed! The PosiThink viewpoint is to consider all the glitches merely to be "alternative outcomes"; my problem is that I was spawned down at the murky end of the gene pool, where the sharks hang out ;P Anyway, as they say: when they made me, they threw away the mould. ... but it's amazing how the damned stuff just keeps growing back ... i'd like to see the wilbert b. smith article reopened
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Wilbert_B._Smith hi, sorry if this is not the correct place to make this request. i am very new to wikipedia! one of the reasons i created this account is that i believe wilbert b. smith is a notable figure, worthy of his own wikipedia page, yet it has been deleted. this would fall into your debate, but of note is that the person who requested the deletion in the first place is someone who has been banned from wikipedia for being a sockpuppet (jps -- this is the username listed on the deletion page) this user has been permanently banned from wikipedia for slandering environmental acitivists, green technology, and getting into other fights with arbcomm (i did a lot of google'ing to learn about this contreversy when i saw this user pop up in several pages i had been reading).
to me, it seems that since this person is responsible for the deletion request and i have very reliable sources indicating that Wilbert B. Smith is a notable person (including a video in which the former Minister of Defense notes Wilbert Smith by name) I belive this issue needs to be revisited.
I am sorry if you are sick and I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. If I should go about this request in a different way or contact someone else, please let me know! — Preceding unsigned comment added by BioEMF (talk • contribs) 23:08, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well, if you have actual reliable sources, I'd be interested in seeing them before commenting further. Courcelles 16:20, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
