Aquaman protection

Hey. You once semi-protected Aquaman. Since the expiration, the same edits have not stopped. This person will not stop. (Of course, there's been other types of vandalism too.) Even though it's only happened two three times so far, do you reckon another protection is in order? I do. If you don't, I'll wait until the user makes the same edit maybe five more times then ask you again or go request it. —DangerousJXD (talk) 10:00, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

About lalit Mangal Article

Hi Courcelles,

Can we talk about this ?

Jordan Fisher

Hi there. I'm going to create this article, which was deleted. Since then, Fisher appeared on Grease: Live as Doody, and sang a solo piece as a supporting cast member. Please give me a few minutes to work on it. Bearian (talk) 14:13, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

I started a draft here: User:Bearian/sandbox#Jordan_Fisher, and also contacted RHaworth. Bearian (talk) 15:09, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
If RHaworth is amenable, I have no objection to the recreation. Courcelles (talk) 21:27, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

User:League Legend

Hi Courcelles, I see you have reverted and blocked this user. Your reverts have now been undone by three newly created users; User:Blue and Gold Army, User:Parra Jesus and User:Such a Knight. Mattlore (talk) 00:19, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Mattlore, this is a sockmaster who loves to play with dates and such. (This is the same person who was being talked about over on User_talk:Gadfium#Help_needed.) Reverted, cleaned the sock drawer, and issued some protections. Courcelles (talk) 03:37, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
If you see this again (and that if might should be a "when") please do let me know. There are usually more accounts than you'll see (I blocked five tonight, for example), so this is always worth running checkuser. Courcelles (talk) 03:43, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I will keep an eye out as he seems to be focusing his energy on New Zealand and/or rugby league articles at the moment. Mattlore (talk) 04:06, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. You're right about his focus, he's also hit NZ/AU politician articles, usually mucking with dates. Courcelles (talk) 04:16, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by   Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by   MPJ-DK (submissions),   Hurricanehink (submissions),   12george1 (submissions), and   Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by   Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by   Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with   J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Convert file from PNG to SVG

Hello, Courcelles (talk), I have another request. I was wondering how to convert a .PNG file to an .SVG file? Specifically, I am requesting that File:D.C. Possible rangeblock?

Hi Courcelles, saw you were working on the giant returning sockdrawer. Is there some way to rangeblock the IP so that they don't keep creating new accounts? (they did one specially for me yesterday...). Montanabw(talk) 02:18, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, looks like the range needed to stop this would be a /1 (not a typo.) There is a few more limited /16s I could block, but it wouldn't stop the problems, and would stop a great number of other editors. Not seeing anything that would help that doesn't have lots of collateral. Happy to protect your user and user talk pages, though. Courcelles (talk) 20:33, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh, unless they do it again, I'm not worried, my trusty talkpage stalkers have my back. Just tired of that individual and their game of "catch me if you can." Maybe, though, protect their LTA -- they vandalized it! Montanabw(talk) 04:40, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Amazing how often people vandalize their own LTA or SPI... protected both. Courcelles (talk) 05:25, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Very weird. Montanabw(talk) 05:48, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Some people seem to think they can make an SPI fall through the cracks by removing it. What they don't know is we have an IRC channel that feeds every edit to any SPI subpage. (The channel (#wikipedia-en-spi) is public, for the record). Courcelles (talk) 19:25, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Is Montanabw's talk now protected? I tried to leave her a message a minute ago and got an error message saying, "you are not allowed to edit this page. This page is protected." I've never got that before (I'm the one who removed ILT's latest junk!) and I know I was logged in. I am definitely autoconfirmed and can edit semiprotected stuff anyway. (The concern was over somebody adding possible OR or unreffed material to a horse article.) White Arabian Filly Neigh 01:51, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
@White Arabian Filly: Her talk page is not protected, and actually never has been. I'm not seeing any logical reason you got that message (this page actually is semi-protected, and you edited it just fine.) Can you try again? Courcelles (talk) 01:56, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Empty protection log on User talk:Montanabw. Courcelles (talk) 01:58, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I tried again and succeeded. It was probably some software glitch. It was weird, though. White Arabian Filly Neigh 02:05, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I don't have my talk page protected. I suppose if I ever was getting a lot of anon IP hate mail, I do so temporarily, but I don't mind having new user contact me. Usually. Montanabw(talk) 22:49, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
My strong suspicion is that WAF just hat one of the sporadic database locks that usually only last a minute or two. As I said, Montana, no one has ever protected your talk page, so a database lock is among the only explanation. Courcelles (talk) 23:30, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Wizzzard

I've been trying to find out a little more about the short lived band Wizzzard, consisting of Ish Ledesma, Betty Wright, and Breezy Beat MC (has no WP page yet). I remember reading an article about them here once but it isn't here anymore, and when I looked in to creating one, it showed this deletion record:

'A page with this title has previously been deleted.

If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the deleting administrator using the information provided below.

00:56, 11 February 2011 Courcelles (talk | contribs) deleted page Wizzzard (Speedy deleted per CSD G8, redirect to a deleted or non-existent page. using TW)'

Curiously, I did not see this action in your contributions record. I would think it should go between these 2:

00:58, 11 February 2011 (diff | hist) . . (-27)‎ . . Boyd Kirkland ‎ (rm deleted image)

00:49, 11 February 2011 (diff | hist) . . (-51)‎ . . File:Vidunderlige Kartoffel- DVD cover.png ‎ (Previous version(s) deleted per F5))

I'd be curious to know if there's any reason for not having a page about Wizzzard, or if there were problems with the old page that brought about its removal.

Ish Ledesma himself has posted some information about the band on his Youtube channel. Super Saiyan Musashi (talk) 17:00, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

One note before I go look in this further, deletions show up in my admin log, not my contributions (which lists only edits. Courcelles (talk) 18:24, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, loogs like I only deleted a redirect, the actual page was Breezy Beat MC, which was deleted by NawlinWiki. If you want the Breezy Beat MC article back, it was deleted under WP:PROD and can be restored on request. If you want there to be an article on Wizzzard, simply create one -- there has never actually been an article under that title. Courcelles (talk) 18:28, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the information; Should I contact NawlinWiki about restoring the Breezy Beat MC page or could you restore it? Though I'd like a look at the deleted page before I formally ask for its restoration so I can check it out and possibly provide references.Super Saiyan Musashi (talk) 19:37, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Let's just say it needs a lot of work. I've placed it at User:Super Saiyan Musashi/Breezy Beat MC for you to see if you can make anything of it. Courcelles (talk) 19:42, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks; and you ain't kidding! I think for the short term I'll focus on starting a page for Wizzzard using the knowledge that Ledesma has gone public with, and maybe finding what I can to support Breezy Beat MC's old page will serve as a later project if I can find the time. Super Saiyan Musashi (talk) 20:35, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Renaming files on Wikimedia Commons

Hello Courcelles (talk), I have a file renaming request: could you or another admin please rename the file File:ACFEast-Buf.Uniform.png to File:AFCEast-Buf.Uniform.png? The only reason I ask this is because the abbreviation in the file name for the American Football Conference (AFC) needs to be corrected, IMO. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:01, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Lana protection Comment

I think the only problem with the article is based on User:Tyler Gonzalez's behavior. I have blocked him for 3 months hoping he'll get it. I returned the article to pending changes. --wL<speak·check> 20:34, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello Courcelles, In case you didn't notice, WikiLeon has resigned his adminship. Also, I had closed an AN3 case with a comment about his actions. Some people in the thread at BN assert he is not leaving under a cloud. It's not up to me to decide that, but his response to the problem is enough, or even more than enough. EdJohnston (talk) 03:50, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
(General comment) There's a strong reason that bureaucrats have made a conscious effort to move away from the "cloud" descriptor and to the more precise terminology outlined at #2 of WP:RESYSOP: One might leave under a little rain but not in such stormy conditions that they were in any significant danger of being struck by lightning - "clouds" represent too much of a spectrum to be used as a term of art. –xenotalk 11:10, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
Good lord, I'm very sorry to see this, and despite Xeno's adversion to the term, this is about the clearest sky situation ever possible. Courcelles (talk) 15:12, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Is this 3RR?

[54][55] there were a total of four reverts on the category. This previously happened some months ago on The Battle of the Planet of the Apes article. Do you deal with such incidents or should I report at the appropriate noticeboard? Thanks.--Taeyebaar (talk) 22:12, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

As Taeyebaar has been told at Talk:The Matrix (franchise)/Archive 1#Addition of soft science fiction category and several other pages, most works of science fiction have elements of both hard and soft science fiction, so they should not be put in either category. He needs to get consensus, but instead he edit wars over this and numerous other genre changes at dozens of pages. - Gothicfilm (talk) 22:49, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
@Taeyebaar:, @Gothicfilm:. Let me be clear: Whichever of you I see make another revert on a category page is getting blocked. You;re both edit-warring, and have BOTH crossed 3RR, so this needs to stop, and right now. I'm talkbacking both of you so you see this before making more edits. Courcelles (talk) 00:47, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

I stopped the revert warring and stopped myself from crossing the third revert, even though the reverting was started by gothicfilm and not the first time. This user has also done similar edit warring previously on an article, which I pulled out of to prevent 3RR violation even though I referred my edits to websites that recognized it as such--Taeyebaar (talk) 00:51, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Three reverts are not an entitlement. You can be blocked for edit warring even without making a fourth revert. 3RR is merely the bright line beyond which you are definitely edit warring, not the beginning of it. Courcelles (talk) 01:53, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan.

Special this month, a Mini-Video opportunity for individuals to share their Wikipedia experiences (during pre-meeting, 6-7pm, and in side-office during regular meetup). A videographer will be present to record 1-3 minute Mini-Videos of folks informally speaking, sharing anything about their Wikipedia-related projects, whether an edit-a-thon they joined, an article they edited, or a class project they were a part of, etc.

We will also follow up on plans for recent (Art+Feminism!) and upcoming edit-a-thons, and other outreach activities.

We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.

We will also place our chapter's votes for the global Wikimedia Foundation board.

After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

6:00pm - 7:00pm Mini-Video and social hour
7:00pm - 9:00pm Regular meeting: Introduction for new participants, Noshing, Chapter projects

We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience!

Can you check the page Rome please? thanks --LivioAndronico (talk) 18:32, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

I've issued edit warring warning to both of you. This has to stop, and stop now. Also, are y'all seriously edit-warring about which image to use? Really? Courcelles (talk) 18:53, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
Excuse but the photo I posted it after the restoration of the fountain, and I think it is better and more useful than a 2007. I have various quality photos and featured --LivioAndronico (talk) 18:55, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
Being right (assuming you are) is not an excuse for edit warring. Neither one of you has many edits on enwp, but both of you are experienced on other projects, either commons or svwp. Talk it out. Le Lapin Vert, Livioandronico2013 I've protecte the page rather than hand out blocks, but discuss this. Somewhere. Please. Courcelles (talk) 19:48, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Moving an article title

Hello Courcelles (talk), I have a technical request for you: could you please move the article Islanders–Penguins brawl to Penguins–Islanders brawl? I tried to do it myself, but since I don't possess admin privileges, WP won't let me move the page. Please help? Thanks. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:49, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

Saturday April 30, 1-6pm: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa @ Guggenheim

File:Monir Portrait-exh ph021.jpg

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue
