An objection

You granted user Anupam reviewer's rights. His disruptions/lack of cooperation at talk:Robbie Mannheim as well as to the article itself ought to be enough to remove these rights, and I see his probationary period is done as of two days ago. User Anupam has already been abusing his editor's rights as it is.

May I remind you: "The process of reviewing is intended as a quick check to make reasonably sure edits don't contain vandalism, violations of the policy on living people, or other obviously inappropriate content. Reviewers are users sufficiently experienced who are granted the ability to accept other users' edits. They are expected to have a reasonable editing history, know what is and what is not vandalism, and be familiar with basic content policies. Reviewer rights are granted by administrators. Thanks 222. I've struggled with this article for a long time too. I think the main problem is that user: Anupam seems not to accept that a lot of what he uses as sources are essentially "story books". Preliminarily:

1. "Paranormal Experiences"

2. "A Faraway Ancient Country"

3. "Good Spirits, Bad Spirits: How to Distinguish Between Them"

4. "Evil: Satan, Sin, and Psychology"

I mean really, it's a joke, those sources have been disputed as POV since before I started trying to clean up this article in April, but every time someone tries to remove quotes attributed to these sources, Anupam reverts the edits and claims we're removing "the other side of the story". Trying to resolve this on the talk page has not been getting anywhere. His only saving grace is that he is laborious and polite, but perhaps that's the worst combination of traits for an editor nursing an NPOV article. I really mean no personal offence to Anupam, he has been polite and has put a lot of effort into the article, but it has been misguided. I personally think he really needs to just leave that article for a while and stop taking it personally. We need to get rid of those ridiculous sources and get the article up to scratch. Not sure if there's anything you can do as an admin, at the very least don't give Anupam more rights, that's the last thing he needs. Vespine (talk) 23:05, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I was inattentive and Vespine is carrying the whole load here. The article in question, which Vespine has given a link to (this new editing system baffles me, I can't do it)... well we need an extra set of eyes so vespine isn't flying solo with that thing. We seem to agree that it needs a total overhaul. Anupam is actually a pain in the proverbial: no one can edit without his meddling and reverting the crap we remove. Then he insists his permission be begged on the talk page when Vespine has talked to the point of spitting up coat hangers. This article means a lot to me too, though I did no work there. Yeah, that sounds about right to me. Top Ten isn't really an award/nomination/etc, but it gives flavour to the lede, and can be used to put some meat on the fourth paragraph. Considering they're all being sourced right now by a dead link, we can cut out all but the more noteworthy publications/critics and track down their original list/reviews, instead of the tertary source that is Metacritic (Whose notability I'd hold in question, anyhow). Thank you for the very thorough review of Glee (season 1). A number of changes have been made based on your suggestions and the last couple of tidbits are still being looked into (namely the ratings discussion, talking with Frickative on MSN ATM). Would you mind reviewing the changes that have been made and determining whether the page now fits approval in your eyes? Review question

Mr. Courcelles sir, I was wondering if you could give me some guidance. I recently made some "bold" revisions on a geographic article that included improved grammar, structural reorientation of images and content, and added a Geobox to replace an old infobox. Now, the other day someone came around with an IP address and reverted everything that was done, which I saw as vandalism. Today, though, I got another complete revert (in the exact same way) in the name of a once-blocked problem editor. I didn't want to start an edit war, so I sent him a message to request follow-up. What should be my next step? I sense that the topic (Ceuta) might be controversial, but my edits were not content-driven, there were no politic-cultural motivations or revisions (for example), but I felt the revisions were justified to improve the quality of the page. Since you sent me the "reviewer" status, I felt confidant that I could get some opinion. I didn't want to abandon my original revisions, but just that I feel that I should, if this gets into a full-blown edit war. Appreciate your comments.Ruben JC 14:37, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

It looks like someone reverted back to your version. In general, I find it beneficial not to copy-edit and rearrange at the same stretch, merely because it is harder to remove bad copyedits while keeping good structural changes. I figured you might be the best person to ask about pending changes :)

How do we go about requesting this for an article? And does the article have to be vandalised before it's added or can we request that it's added if we suspect the article is going to be vandalised?

It's just that The Bill airs it's last ever episode on Tuesday after some 27 years on TV. HJ has already had to protect it once this last couple of weeks because of vandalism and people adding information that was unreferenced. I suspect that this week the page may come in for more of the same, with it being the last ever episode the programme is very high profile at the moment. Personally I would rather see "pending changes" added to the article rather than have it locked as not all people will vandalise. --5 albert square (talk) 01:00, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I just happen to be in the area and will try to answer your questions. If I am mistaken...I will surely be corrected.

The pending changes trial ended on August 15 at 11:00 UTC. After this time, I do not believe any new pages were accepted for pending changes protection in the interim (though currently protected pages are still logging as such).

I know I have in the past had pages under pending changes protection that I have had to request temporary semi-protection for, so my example goes the other way from yours. If there is the potential for large amounts of activity, and the page has been vandalized during this type of airing, then I would just recommend requesting semi-protection. If new pages ARE being accepted for pending changes, meanwhile, I'll be corrected, surely. Right now, consensus is being sought on whether to even continue the project. I would still make the request (at the same place that semi-protection is requested) and sewe what they think. Give your reasons like normal and it'll be their call. You're right about Microsoft, I guess I was a bit overly optimistic - there is a reason for WP:INVOLVED to exist after all. I once hailed it as a success of PC, but recently it has been rather bad. It's really just too bad, as IPs tend to come in and nicely fix the grammar errors I make a lot quicker then I can and such; too bad there's no middle ground right now between none and semi that works for pages like this. That's the problem, isn't it? Is it worth the time to check ten bad edits under PC to get the one or two worthwhile changes? I think what we've learned about from this trial is that if we keep PC, it works best on low-traffic pages- just this morning I removed obvious vandalism that had sat there for eleven months; but where there are many edits a day; Microsoft's last 50 edits go back only 6 days; the amount of time it consumes can be large. It relates to the contempt in which the genre is held by mundane society; science fiction/"sci fi" is unique among literary genres as being judged not only by the worst of the genre, but by the worst of the visual-media imitations of the genre. World-renowned fan writer David Langford collects new exemplars of these sneers in his fanzine Ansible every issue; and sadly there is never any shortage of fresh candidates. (As to why I care: I review and occasionally write the stuff; I married a fellow fan at a science fiction convention, and we still attend them every year with our daughter [who does her own science fiction fanzines]; and I remain convinced that there is no genre of literature extant which is better able to speak to the human condition.) Questions with Featured list candidates/Task force

Thought I would bug you instead of dabomb because dabomb is busy. Egads, can't tell who is busier.

I took List of Kentucky state symbols under the "Not up to current standards" section and tried to update it. Updated page is at User:Bgwhite/Sandbox. I used the updated Indiana page as a guide. Well, your sandbox version really could do with a longer lede section, at least two solid paragraphs. I haven't seen any single paragraph ledes fare well at FLC in a good while. Also, the userspace version of that list is inactive; the maintained list is at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Task force, but I'm unsure who updates it outside of FLRC.
Also, since there's an IP edit in there, per our license, I'm going to have to history merge your sandbox into the article, and leave everything before the Kentucky work in your sandbox. Will take me about ten minutes, but let me know when you're ready. Courcelles 12:13, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I was still in a good mood from Dana's doughnuts. This list had the same problem I'm having with my Lillehammer list (and the only reason it's not at FLC already); not being able to source things I absolutely-saw with my own eyes- know are true. Tomorrow, Slumdog, Moscow and Cortina. Any chance I get through any of it? If I do, I've got the Pirates, Reds, Lillehammer, and Nagano breathing down my neck! Not to mention the Diamondbacks which is 100% done and dusted, just haven't had a slot to nominate it. Not to mention my scattered notes on the Buffy seasons I haven't actually gotten into the computer yet. My goal for September? Finish some darned projects without starting any new ones.

Why was this article "salted"?

Mimi Macpherson was deleted after what you described as otherwise a "pretty easy no consensus close" [1] because of a request from her publicist (I think, from reading [2]). I don't know (or care) enough to claim that she is notable on her own, but [3] fairly clearly suggests that if she is not notable that her name should redirect to Elle Macpherson, a famous relation. There are also five occurrences of "Mimi Macpherson" in other articles already.[4] However, I was unable to create this redirect because the article had been "salted".

Now I'm concerned about this because there was no discussion of salting in the deletion review, and WP:SALT gives the impression that the intent is to stop repeated creation of articles, whereas this one was deleted only once. I think that this tool is becoming overused, without any real discussion or awareness in the broader community. Wnt (talk) 14:55, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of article Alice (Transformers)

I was curious as to the deletion of the article Alice (Transformers). I spent some tine adding some good references about the character's notability, including that the actress won an award for the part asd a "breakout" roll, a technical article about the computer graphics used to create thew character on screen, and news article coverage about the character. Yet somehow it still seemed to get deleted for lack of notability. Is it possible to request a re-evaluation, review, or ask for a chance to add more citations? What the discussion proves is that Isabel Lucas is notable. However, that fact was never in question. No one ever provided sources that proved the notability of Alice the character is notable in any real-world sense.
