Welcome!

edit

Hi Cro ed, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Coat of Arms of Hungary

edit

Hi Cro ed,

I can see that you recently replaced "Hungary" by "Croato-Hungarian Union" in the article about the Coat of Arms of Hungary. I suppose your intent was to emphasize that Croatia was a separate political unit within the Kingdom of Hungary. However, the term "Croato-Hungarian Union" is neither widely used (either at that time or today), nor does it accurately represent the status of Croatia within the Kingdom of Hungary. I've changed it to "Kingdom of Hungary" which I believe is more accurate.

When you want to change something substantial in an article which may cause controversy, or which you yourself find biased (I'm assuming that this was the case here), it is best to propose your change first on the article's Talk page (which you can reach by clicking the "discussion" tab at the top of the page in question), and provide your arguments supporting the change. Then, if nobody objects, or the discussion shows a consensus supporting your change, you go ahead and make it.

If you check that article's talk page, you can see that I'm about to make major changes. Keep an eye on the article to make sure I'm not adding Hungarian bias. You can, for example, add the article to your watchlist by clicking the "watch" tab above the article (when logged in).

Last but not least, although I've only been around here for somewhat less than a month myself, welcome! :)

KissL 13:22, 18 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Marko, don't be discouraged, although your edit wasn't perfectly accurate, I think it was perfectly reasonable. I know that the Croatian nobles chose to enter Croatia into personal union with Hungary out of their own will, I just disagreed because the resulting state (we can call it "a state", since at that time this more or less meant the territories under a certain ruler – meaning the title not the person, but in this case the title was also united) was never really referred to as "Croato-Hungarian Union" (with the possible exception of Croatia maybe). As the common king was of a Hungarian descent and seated in Hungary, I think the inequality was inevitable without anyone "pressing their hegemony", but that is another story; luckily we needn't bother finding out why things turned this way :)

About the article, I think it was Alensha who wrote that up, but I'm pretty sure she didn't mean any harm but simply had a Hungarian POV, thus disregarding facts that are more important for the Croats. You are absolutely right that Croatia was not by any means "conquered", and therefore you were also right to edit that part ("Be Bold" is a guideline here anyway). I think this is the way Wikipedia works – you make sure that the articles don't contain inaccuracies about Croatia, I make sure they don't contain inaccuracies about Hungary, and in the end everyone (with a reasonable amount of common sense, that is) is happy.

I have nothing against Croatians either; I was very impressed by the warm, friendly, and welcoming attitude of the people in Primošten when I spent two weeks there in 2003, not to mention what a beautiful place it is (in fact, we even stayed three days longer than we originally intended, and only returned home because we had to go back to work). The Hungarians have long been renowned for their hospitality, but I think that recently, there is more and more room for improvement, and much to learn from you :) I can also add that if all our neighbours were like you, this part of Europe would surely be a happier place.

Finally about Euro'2012, we share the same hope :) And rest assured, whenever Hungary is not represented in an international football event (which is nowadays pretty much always, unfortunately), the Croatian nationals are my secondary preference :)

(A technical note: when you sign something, just type this: ~~~~. It automagically gets replaced by your username as a link to your userpage. I produced my signature below the same way.)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cibona.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Nevertheless, you made those changes long before even the preliminary results were complete, which is POV pushing (please read WP:NPOV and WP:POV). Additionally, the two Republics still form Union in a State Union - a mere referendum (that's still not finished) cannot change itself that. Best! --HolyRomanEmperor 13:37, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Igrac 443.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Igrac 443.gif. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Igrac 443.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:Ćorluka.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. The article Bojan Bogdanović has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag.   Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Ljubo Miličević. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Please add sources that show that the player has left the club. I have done a quick google and have not found a single source that shows that he has been released. Please provide references otherwise the edits will continue to be reverted and assumed as vandalism. Nath1991 (talk) 12:54, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

RE: Ljubo Miličević

edit

Are these newspaper reports online? If so, send me the links and I'll fix up the references for you. You're not in any trouble, referencing just helps to Verify possible controversial statements, especially when editing biographies of living people. Thanks, Nath1991 (talk) 13:13, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

OK mate, looks credible enough. I'll undo a couple of edits, and add the source onto the end of it. Once again mate, I didn't mean to cause any offense by reverting your edits, however in order to keep Wikipedia verifiable, it always helps to have reputable sources when editing pages, especially biographies of living people (footballers) as it gives the article credibility and distinguishes it from vandalism. Once again mate, thankyou. Also, just a heads up - when making posts of users talk pages, always sign your posts by typing 4 tildes. :). Cheers, Nath1991 (talk) 13:40, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

HNK Vukovar 1991

edit

Unaprijed zahvaljujem i pozdrav! --Ivan OS 15:38, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dražen Anzulović

edit

The article Dražen Anzulović has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Specs112 t c 19:59, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of HNK Val

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on HNK Val, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:05, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of NK HAŠK

edit

The article NK HAŠK has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This Croation football club article has zero references to establish notability. After searching, found one not-reliable source and information of 1911 same name club, but no comprehensive, in-depth coverage of this specific club. Article was created on 12 February 2008.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
