Templates
editHi, it is not clear as to why you are creating several templates and where they are going to be used. Could you please let me know? TIA, --Gurubrahma 15:26, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, please explain the use of your templates, since they seem to be pretty useless, and don't recreate them before replying to either Gurubrahma or myself.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 16:23, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Got it.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 06:28, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Some recommendations:
- dormir (to sleep) = sonaa = स_ना with the accent between "स" and "ना" the same as the one following "द" in "दो"
- tuer (to kill) = maaranaa = मआरना (the accent following "म" is the same as the one following "न" in "ना")
- bon (good) = achchaa = अछआ with a half "च" before "छ" (the accent following "छ" is the same as the one following "न" in "ना")
If you could confirm the meanings of the following words, I could tell you their translations:
- écorce = bark, as in a dog's bark or a tree's bark?
- peau = skin?
- foie = liver?

Redirects to user pages
editHeya, I noticed you made a redirect to a subpage of your userpage at Breton Swadesh list. This should be avoided, all redirects from the main namespace to the user namespace are speedy deletion candiadates. If you're looking for people to help with or review the article, try posting about it to a notice board on the topic instead. If you have sufficient content of even a decent stub, you can just move the article into the main namespace. Good luck with the article! --W(t) 15:05, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Weyes,
- The reason I created such redirects is that I have a work in progress with several pages related one to another, and I don't want to put them in the main namespace until the work is done. But, if you are in trouble with the redirections, I can change my mind and put them right now in the main namespace. Croquant 15:20, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- You could also just leave a few redlinks, and possibly leave a note on the article's talk page that you're working on the redlinked pages. But if you feel the articles are sufficiently worked out to appear in the main namespace, that's probably easiest. --W(t) 15:24, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Deleting user sub-pages

Template objections
editI've made a post about your application of Swadesh templates at Template talk:Swadesh list 207 plain and the use of 200+ individual templates instead of just a handful of them. I would appreciate your comments on the matter.
Peter Isotalo 14:36, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- See my answer at Template talk:Swadesh list 207 plain. Croquant 14:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- I had a closer look at how you've been designing your Swades list-articles, and I must point out that you've somewhat misunderstood the whole point of using templates. For one thing, they're never used to include actual article prose, as is the case with Template:Swadesh list presentation. They're primarily designed for replacing fairly complicated tables and infoboxes, making them easier to standardize and to fill in. Using templates for just plain text is not a good idea, since it makes editing that much more complicated for newbies and creates more templates than necessary. It also makes it that much easier for vandals to mess up a large number of articles very effectively.
- I understand that you want to standardize the lists, but this is just as easily done by simply keeping your own template in the form of a text file that you simply paste into each article.
- Peter Isotalo 12:55, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- I understand your point of view. However, if I (or somebody else) want changes to be made in the "presentation" section, these changes should be repeated as many times as there are pages containing this section. And it seems to me that your entire argumentation could apply to the tables and infoboxes, which are highly vandal-sensitive. Croquant 13:17, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Tables are generally more difficult to edit if they're in raw code, or at least equally complicated, but with the advantage of letting experienced editors take shortcuts. This is not the case with prose, which becomes less accessible as soon as you make turn it into tables. Please try to avoid cherry picking.
- Peter Isotalo 13:41, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the article Castillan Swadesh list, which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "U1 - not needed", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This article does not qualify for speedy deletion because Criterion U1 only applies to user subpages. If you still want the article to be deleted, please use the WP:RFD process. Thanks! - Noting that you stated the templates were ready for deletion, you can use the {{db-author}} template on each as the creator. Just put {{db-author}} at the top of each og the 100+.
Hey again. I was just reading this article, after you bought it up into the other day, and to be honest it annoyed me a bit. To the point where I was gonna put it up for deletion, till I saw you made it, and I'd hatefor you to think I was stalking you :P To me, it just seems to be a less formal reword of fusion power, and judging from its talk page others agree. Could it be made more specific? And make sure to state very clearly the distinction between Inertial Fusion Energy and inertial confinement fusion. Thanks :) - Jak (talk) 22:30, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Hello. I was wikignoming through unused templates and saw your {{Cellbg}}. From the history it looks like it was going to be deleted, as it was replaced by {{Bg li}}? Can you go ahead and tag the template as {{db-author}}? That was it will be speedy deleted. If not, let me know I can do a {{tfd}}. Thanks. — MrDolomite | Talk 02:24, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's OK for deletion. I tagged it. Croquant 11:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind my Bangala additions
editSalut Croquant!
I just discovered your Swadesh Bangala page and decided to add a few more words that I learned while living in Dungu. Do you have this page in French? I just found out there's an Internet café in my village, so if it's in French, I could get some REAL Bangala speakers to edit it. --Dblomgren 02:19, 29 December 2006 (UTC) (P.S. Hong Kong
editHi, can you make a map for Hong Kong similar to that for Shenzhen, showing the location of Hong Kong within Guangdong? Badagnani 21:15, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hong Kong is not actually a part of Guangdong, it's just close to this province. Nevertheless, I'll try to make a map showing both of them as soon I get time. Croquant 06:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
If these stipulations could be met in a new version, could you do this?
- From the Hong Kong talk page: "I think it would be useful to have a map showing Hong Kong and its surrounding region. The "issue" of giving the impression that HK is or is not a part of Guangdong can be avoided simply by extending the map to include a slightly wider area ie parts of Guangxi, Fujian etc, with HK in one colour and the rest of China in another. Also what I presume are county boundaries are not needed, instead the main cities should be indicted. LDHan 09:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)"
Thank you again, Badagnani 02:49, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
It's very good, but, yes, I think one showing a wider area of the provinces would be good, because ths cale of this one is similar to the one that's already in the article (though I agree it's much better, and could serve as a substitute for that blue/gray one. Two suggestions: label the Pearl River/Delta and Guangdong Province. Badagnani 18:05, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
This one is good! Thanks a million. The only comments are that it would be nice to fit Shenzhen in there, and also Hong Kong looks strangely shaped in the larger photo, not including the smaller islands, etc. Do you intend that this map would be best in conjunction with your earlier, more detailed map? I think that's a good idea. Badagnani 17:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Not exactly sure about your last part; I'd say use your best judgement. Badagnani 18:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
I see you've made new versions at Commons. Great--they look finished. Can I propose them at Hong Kong now? Badagnani 07:02, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Are there two or three HK images? Badagnani 07:34, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I meant the maps. There are three but one is a replacement, so I mentioned two at Talk:Hong Kong. Badagnani 08:35, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, there are some quite nice ones there! Badagnani 09:13, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi, could you make a map for Liangguang? I assume it had exactly the borders of Guangdong and Guangxi, but I'm not sure. Badagnani 02:47, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I put it in my task list. Croquant 17:54, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, see this edit summary first. Badagnani 06:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I'll have a closer look on this topic. Croquant 07:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't find much information for the moment ; it needs a deeper search. Croquant 07:41, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have been asked to help you with Liangguang. I suggest that you use the borders of Guangdong and Guangxi on this map from 1875.--Amban 19:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion.Croquant 07:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- You may be right, it does seem that while borders between the two provinces shifted, the external boundaries did not. So a map of Liangguang would be a simple addition of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan, it seems. However, if you do produce a map like that, it is better not to mark the boundaries of other provinces, since they have shifted a lot since the Qing.--Amban 19:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Wow, amazing! Badagnani 17:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I think it would be good, though, to have something showing where in China it is, like the other province articles. Maybe another map doing that. Badagnani 17:28, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
If you have an actual map from 1900 China, it would be out of copyright, so you could upload it "as is." Badagnani 18:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I see at Shanghai that there is no map showing Shanghai in relation to its surroundings. Can you make such a map, showing the surrounding provinces? The map of China with red dot is just not close enough, and the one of Shanghai itself doesn't say what the outlying areas are. So, a problem just like that at the Hong Kong article. Badagnani 20:13, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Swadesh templates
editHi, I just noticed that a template you created, Template:Swadesh 181, is unused and appears to be abandoned. I've marked it as deprecated, meaning it'll be deleted in two weeks' time if nobody objects. If there's a reason to keep it please leave a note at Wikipedia talk:Deprecated and orphaned templates. Thanks. Bryan Derksen 02:52, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- In fact, following up, I notice a whole string of similar Swadesh templates numbered from 011 to 200 (listed at User:Woohookitty/S) that may be in a similar situation. What are these templates used for? I now see that there's a note on the talk pages, but it doesn't really explain much. Some sort of documentation on the template pages themselves would be helpful. Wujiang
editI notice that you created an article on Wujiang city and then moved it to Wujiang (Hunan). Since Wujiang is in Jiangsu province, I've taken the liberty of moving it to Wujiang (Jiangsu). Is there any particular reason for naming the article Wujiang (Hunan)? Just curious in case I've done something wrong.
Hi, Dear Croquant: Thank you for your creating so many articles for Chinese cities and administrative divisions in French Wikipedia. I noticed that you also created fr:Comté de Zhongmou. The Chinese character 牟 has tow pronunciations, Mù and Móu. And it is pronounced as Mù in this case. Please, for example, visit the official English website of Zhongmu County Government. Would you please move fr:Comté de Zhongmou to its proper place? I am only a IP user in French Wikipeida and cannot move article. Thank you so much for your help! Best regards. --Neo-Jay (talk) 09:49, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:Hi li
editA tag has been placed on Template:Hi li requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.
Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 06:39, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
I love your maps
editI love your maps. I'm working on political division maps for other provinces in China, currently Jiangxi, and I'd like to use your map format. Is that okay? Also, can I use the China map background image as well? Keep up the good work.Mike (talk) 01:50, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Pourtalet -> Portalet
editThanks. I thought it was Portalet, that is what I remembered seeing nearby, but when I looked it up the first ref has "Pourtalet". Are they possibly alternate spellings? William M. Connolley (talk) 09:52, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Now I look, even [1], titled Pourtalet, also used without-u in the text William M. Connolley (talk) 09:59, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Pourtalet may be an alternate spelling, but not frequently used, or a confusion with the col du Pourtalet, in the same region. In any case, Portalet is the correct Catalan spelling, and, as far as I know, the only name used by official entities. Croquant (talk) 12:56, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
