Gull sizes

edit

Hi Csw99 - to use terms like 'medium-sized' in the introduction is perfectly OK and is helpful to most readers. The actual measurements are further down the page, for anyone that wants the more precise detail. - MPF (talk) 08:59, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

It is not helpful to anyone. How long is a medium-sized piece of string? It's totally meaningless. csw99 06:57, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
That shows how completely you are missing the point! A piece of string can have infinite variation in length, so size comparisons there are meaningless. But a gull is not a piece of string; gulls show a finite range of sizes, so terms like 'small', 'medium-sized', 'large', etc., do have meaning, and are widely used in textbooks, etc. - MPF (talk) 12:29, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
So a reader who has never seen a gull will know what is in your head when you describe a gull as "medium-sized"? You really think they will be informed of something? csw99 06:33, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Apparent "weird subjective abstraction"

edit

You think writing that Haines is known as a co-host of Strahan, Sara and Keke is as misleading as telling readers she is a co-host of that now-cancelled show?[1] Which sources say Haines is a presenter or that she presents talk shows?[2] Why are the years where she hosted Strahan, Sara and Keke mentioned but not her other tenures? KyleJoantalk 09:49, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is as misleading if not more so. It does not even tell the reader whether she still is the host of that show or not, and it needlessly presents personal feelings in place of verifiable facts. An analogously misleading statement would be "Vichy is known as the capital of Vichy France". csw99 07:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
