More HoF inductees: Merritt and Triffs

I wonder which you'll pick? The Triffids I hear, were a great band from Perth (I think you might have heard of them?: get them up to GA??) or Max Merritt leader of the Meteors? See 2008 ARIA Hall of Fame inductees.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

This mornings west has 2 sep bi lined stories of the triffids - if you arent around ill add later in the day the refs - it identifies also the main 'archivist' of the group as well - cheers SatuSuro 02:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Spencer tracy (album).jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Spencer tracy (album).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? HoF

Go for it, Dan. I'll tackle Mr. Merritt. Have fun!

The media over here has more on Max but haven't neglected Triffs.

I've got Miles, Howl & ARDb on Max today, I'm looking for McF before I tackle Max in my sandbox.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:12, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Max is B: I'm not completely happy with it but I'm leaving it for others to copyedit.
I see Triffs have more refs. Good work, now two more inductees to go.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mp-guttermouth.jpg.

The more I read about it (the west our mighty guardians of truth dont even report about it or are on the developers side) it is a considerabley serious issue where a guy simply doesnt give up and uses the system to get his own way - giving little confidence in the capacity of the pollies to provide a balanced approach to heritage - I had some things to with a heritage consultancy some years back :( SatuSuro 01:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Aria winner - album or singer

I am not sure whether it is entirely clear whether it is the singer or the album that wins the award. I thought it was a singer for a specific album and therefore both could be categorised as winners. Just noticed your edit on the Kev's Back album. Regards--Matilda talk 06:20, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi - thanks for your response. I had had the album on my watchlist because I was involved in the AfD (but never listened to it). I am not interested at this stage in doing any work on the ARIAs or categorising (I am attempting to focus on Australian demographics articles ). I am happy that the article mentions the win but I guess (not following the ARIAs) I thought it was the artist for this body of work - ie KBW for Kev's Back in 1987 - so the body of work was key hence my categorisation but happy to go with the flow of how the category works in the present. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bot logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Bot logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by an adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 20:23, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Hope

It looks ok to you SatuSuro 01:03, 17 June 2008 (UTC) Yeah well, big blocks of text are my bugs, headines are yours - fair enough - I would say some more of the early history fleshed out would be my gripe about a B - the last couple of paras are excellent seeing it is potentially an OTRS issue there - they are well done - good stuff! SatuSuro 01:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC) Heheh I must be wrong ) - moondyne has just reduced the sections at the cliffe - so you are in good company SatuSuro 08:43, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

South of the South Mole

I think the whole meat exporting industry - while it happened - and consequently the meatwork wyndham and robb jetty are actually worth an article - as for the rest of it - I am unlikely to get back to that art - there is in my particular mind a confusion of the early rail history in that patch and the subsequent americas cup farnarkling - and until i track down at my so easily lost rail history material I am unlikely to return to that neck of the coast - current redevelopment material that overviews the whole coogee and south of the south mole stuff is not easy to hand in my messy office - unfortunately SatuSuro 08:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

and never enough time <indeed> yup been there - the rail stuff is actually quite interesting - I have albany harbour and south freo rail history as well as the old bunbury rail stuff to dig up in the next week or so - I have stuff on the bunbury rail station (first) but the gerladnton rail stations (all three) give me a headache - will have to put them on the long list off wiki of to do before i pass to the other side scale of time :( SatuSuro 08:53, 17 June 2008 (UTC) gmail to answer that SatuSuro 08:56, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Icehouse

Yeah, you're right about the Icehouse Lead: I'll get back to it soon. I'm working on the discog sectn - got to make a singles wikitable. I can't find out whether they've disbanded but Iva Davies was described as the "former" frontman of Icehouse when introduced on the recent Seven Network tv show Battle of the Choirs on Sunday.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:54, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm currently working on the studio album's wikitable tracking down obscure chart posis and deleting unnecessary cols. Sorry that I rolled right over your recent edit: there was a confict and I steam-rolled yours out of the way!

BTW, I've learnt that the 2005 release Street Cafe and the Remix Hits is just the 2002 Meltdown remixes album with a slightly different track order.

There's a lot of confusion out there because of remixes, remasters and renames of albums.

A good list of releases up to c. 2000 is at M J Foot's Icehouse discography unfortunately all the remix/remasters bloomed c. 2002.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:18, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

You're right about the album articles needing work, some could be merged, order and links between articles needs fixing: I was going to go there after wikitabling the discog but looks to be taking longer than I'd thought: so go for it.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:02, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
The bottom of the discog page I'm working on has some ext lnks you might like to use.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:36, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

"Icehouse" (song) was released as a single outside Australia (reached #28 in US Mains, charted in UK but I haven't tracked its posi) (I've just started the singles list over at my sandbox). It was released OS by Chrysalis in about June 1981 under band name Icehouse and was accompanied by their first Russell Mulcahy video clip (I haven't got around to vids yet) and was shown just once on ABC's Countdown: something about nightmares / Molly being miffed but can't find a good ref. "Love in Motion" was first new material recorded under Icehouse name but was actually recorded by Iva Davies between one gig in London and the next, it was added to the UK version of Primitive Man which was renamed Love in Motion.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I've created the Icehouse discography article. It's not yet B-class: needs more Lead, more Certifications and further work. I've also pruned the discography sectn of Icehouse and see that you've been busy at albums and singles: good work.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:28, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Hlg-icehouse (Germany).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Hlg-icehouse (Germany).jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:11, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

The Dargies

Hi, Dan. It's not that I'm all that interested in the Dargies as such, but I regularly trawl through Australian articles for improvements, and these were the next on my list. I do remember Horrie Dargie being a big name in the early days of Aus TV (late 50s/early 60s), and I knew enough about him to know that "Horace William Dargie" would mean little to most older readers, whereas "Horrie Dargie" would send a few light bulbs flashing. Most people would recognise William's famous yellow-dress portrait of the young Queen - now probably found only in places like RSL clubs and country sheds - but few could name the painter, which is a shame. Cheers. -- JackofOz (talk) 02:30, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, it depends on how notability is defined, I guess. Ask a passing stranger who Horrie Dargie was, and 95 out of 100 would have no idea. But ask someone who was around when he was a big name, like me (OK, I have to grudgingly accept I'm "middle-aged" these days), that's something different. But really, I have no more knowledge of him than my memories of seeing his Quintet of harmonicas playing on early TV. A bit passe these days, but they were great in their day. Thanks for evoking some very nostalgic memories of my boyhood. Horrie and William are on my watchlist now, so I'll fiddle with them from time to time. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Love in Motion

My theory is to move all the relevant material from UK's Love in Motion to the Primitive Man article then the former article can be merged into the latter, (but I don't know exactly how to get such a merger going). My justification is that the 1983 album's article now adds little extra information and is not notable enough in its own right: otherwise we'll have to have about ten articles for all the varieties of "Great Southern Land" / Great Southern Land / Ghost of Time. Nearly every Flowers/Icehouse release had multiple varieties in different markets: where does one draw the line? For my money, the original Aus release gets the article with subsections describing any notable varieties. Do you see any reason to keep this Love in Motion as a separate article?

"Love in Motion" as a single should eventually get its own article, compilation album Love in Motion article should remain as a separate entry.

I'm not sure yet whether Heroes should be merged into The Berlin Tapes. It is virtually a reissue/compilation of the latter and its content could be transferred over. What do you think?

BTW, is it Keith Forsey or Keith Welsh who plays bass and sings vocals for Flowers on Icehouse?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the chart posi updates at their discog, I assume any individual articles will be changed, if needed, as you/I get to them. I'm still trawling around Icehouse, Primitive Man and moving towards Sidewalk. In case you haven't seen the Official website has just been reactivated: this gives me more to search and independently verify: I'm still looking for a complete tracklisting of Bi-Polar Poems.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:35, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Icehouse

Yeah I wasn't too happy with the "Walls" images either: I think the NZ version is same as Icehouse by Flowers with the song title Walls at top right, in place of album title Icehouse - but the image I've got was too small to see it any better (or my eyesight is going). I think this the last material released under the name Flowers: but I haven't put that into the stub article, yet. I think Walls was also B-side to other singles: more to track down there. I've also got more tracking to do on "Icehouse" - I believe it was a B-side to Flowers' "We Can Get Together" European release.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

2008 ARIA Hall of Fame

I've just added a couple of CATs and brief details of the HoF show last night to individual act's articles: based on ARIA press release. I've seen some footage on our arvo news, some on-line. Over here they seem to be emphasising Rolf Harris' emotional reaction: I'd've liked to see more of Snarski on "Red Pony" or Kilbey on "Wide Open Road".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

We should be so lucky

That we have what we have at the project at this time - my little reflection at the noticeboard is not knocking your idea - just i reckon the state we are in is particularly unusual - active eds who actually get on ok and we seem to be working ok - I suspect we'd need double the number of known active and talking eds to have a collab thingo work SatuSuro 03:45, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Yep maybe it would work - but hey prjects portals and things go mysteriously silent so easily - it is in effect a damned good idea but hey dont let me stop it in any way - i know my time is cut out i have just found about 500 problem laden indonesian edits that will keep me away from regularl west oz stuff and so many people have real life invade their edit time - hard to know when to say yes and also keep an eye on the limits of temporal challenges :) SatuSuro 04:11, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

There is a particular sort of editor that can do that stuff better than others - it gets down to online personality - some outwardly normal people turn into animals onlne - while some very weird ones in real life turn out to be brilliant online creatures - bit like whether youre hearing peter sellers speak the beatle lyrics of a hards days night - or captain beefheart's trout mask era ambience - one cn be like one on one side of the coin - or ther vice versa etc - similarly edit style and capacity of some is meticulously stayng with the one thing for weeks one end - or my style - more threads than there angels on a pinhead :) SatuSuro 04:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Love in Motion

How's the status of the Love in Motion (1983 album)? Has all its important content gone over to Love in Motion? ie. is it ready to be sub-mergered into Primitive Man? I've put some re-directs at both Love in Motion and at "Love in Motion"; and updated the disamb page at Love in Motion.

In a similar way I'm still working on Great Southern Land and "Great Southern Land" they are both complicated by numerous versions for different markets including Ghost of Time as an Iva Davies' solo release.

I see that Meltdown was also released under a different name Street Cafe and other remixes for German release. I haven't got around to putting all those details together.

I still haven't decided about The Berlin Tapes and Heroes: should they be merged too?

Finally, "Walls" may have been released as a single ex-Oz after all but I haven't confirmed it nor got a better photo for the infobox.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Eleventh He Reaches London‎

Hey Dan, FYI I have prodded this article because I don't believe the band meets the notability guideline. Regards, Somno (talk) 01:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

The article looks a lot better, but I'm still not convinced the band meets WP:MUSIC. Most of the references would be classed as trivial or non-reliable (e.g., one's a forum), they've only toured locally or as a support band, haven't won any major awards or charted on a national music chart. What do you think? By the way, apologies for distracting you from articles about notable buildings back to articles about music! Somno (talk) 09:43, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Radarmaker.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use Image:Snwmn-cover.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Snwmn-cover.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 08:58, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Gyroscope (Demo)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Gyroscope (Demo), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
