Congrats... You asked an awesome question in the Teahouse!
edithi! Thanks for your great question about using Talkback notices. Keeping track of discussion can be challenging, but with Talkbacks and using your WP:WATCHLIST it gets a lot easier. Come back to the Teahouse any time with more great questions!

Help us improve the Wikipedia Education Program
editHi DanielleForrester1991! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Psychology of Internet Behaviour
editHi Tom Firth, would you like to work together for the group presentation? DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 13:53, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- awesome :) I'm free tomorrow afternoon if you want to meet and make a start on research? 2pm in the library okay for you? Let me know DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 14:07, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, ok can do that TomFirth19 (talk) 14:13, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- Brilliant. Have you looked over the choice of topics? I'm not particularly fussed about improving the 'People' pages, I'd prefer to look at one of the theories in a bit more depth. I've had a read through the Elaboration likelihood model and Uncertainty reduction theory pages, and both are in need of improvements. The first contains a lot of information but the majority (if not all) lacks citation. The latter, whilst informative and well-cited, needs reorganising to ensure it is clear and concise. Do you have a preference on which we work on? I don't mind either :) DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 14:20, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Social Penetration Theory
editYes, that's what i'm thinking to do. Rosiesievers20 (talk) 14:44, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- Who else is working with you in your group? --Rosiesievers20 (talk) 11:57, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Rosie,
- Sorry I'm only just getting back to you, I didn't see your message the last time I logged in :( I'm working with Nat, Tom, Irina and Alicia on the Expectancy Violations theory. How are you getting on with your work? DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 21:28, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Still trying to get in a group, which is a bit annoying. I tried to ask nick and eugene but i hadn't had any replies yet. --Rosiesievers20 (talk) 21:53, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- you're better off asking in person - I suspect not everyone will be checking on here as often as they probably should. The other thing is groups have to be 5 max. from what I gather. Your best bet is to check the Course page and see which subject areas need more people? DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 09:39, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yo, I'd be happy to join a group with you, Rosie. (I'm Sam, the guy who sat a couple seats over from you in the first lecture, you introduced yourself then). I've decided to do Social Penetration theory too, and having looked at the other people doing this and trying to figure out who's in a group or not, it seems like it'd be a good idea to team up with you! Outcome from the first meeting
editHi guys, here's a breakdown of the expectancy violations theory sections and the person responsible for each bit:
Tom: History, Core Concepts of expectancy violations theory
Danielle: Theoretical viewpoints and assumptions, Metatheoretical assumptions
Irina: Common expectancy violations in nonverbal communications, Proxemics and kinesics of expectancy violations theory
Alicia: Common expectancy violations in close relationships, The theory in new media age
Nat: Related theories, Criticism of the theory, Further use and development of the theory
I hope you don't mind me giving you an extra one Nat, the other guys have got a bit more content in their sections that's all. Please don't hate me 0:)
- This sounds good to me, we can meet up next week to do the work, plus I will do a Diagram for Proxemics Natbrock (talk) 16:44, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
- Brilliant! I heard Rob from another group has also decided to do your section of Expectancy Violations theory...? We should definitely speak to Darren about it because it could create conflict on the article page DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 09:22, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I'll help nat with the diagram and we will have it ready for the next meeting we will have, nat reading through how to put images onto the wiki page. -- Aliciaag93 (talk) 09:28, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Nat you said you want to work on the diagram, which is a section which has been assigned to me. Which sections are we swapping? Irina Predescu (talk) 09:29, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Heya Irina can I do Proxemics and kinesics of expectancy violations theory? Either Criticism of the theory, Further use and development of the theory? its up to you?Natbrock (talk) 09:34, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Okay Nat, you will do Proxemics and kinesics of expectancy violations theory and I will do Criticism of the theory Irina Predescu (talk) 09:47, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- That sounds good to me thankyou :D Natbrock (talk) 09:48, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- No worries :D Irina Predescu (talk) 09:51, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- hey guys, just to let you all know I did some editing on one of my sections on the live wiki page to see what would happen. Nat and I have also started with the information about proxemics and what type of diagram we are going to do. :D :D :D -- Aliciaag93 (talk) 11:29, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Group Presentations
editI've just been informed that the presentations have to be individual, is this correct Toni/ Darren? The handbook says that a group presentation makes up 50% of the module mark, working in groups of 4-5. Can someone clarify which information is accurate as our group has already made a presentation (as is probably the case with the other groups). Thanks, DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 14:52, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Danielle - firstly, it's not a good idea to start this conversation on your own talk page if it's a question for me and/or Darren (@Illuminatusds:). My talk page or his is a better place for this conversation. I saw you used the talk back function, which is good, but the banner for that needs to be placed at the bottom of the user's talk page not at the top; I missed it when I first went looking for it as this is not the conventional place to put it. No harm done, it's just that these are basic conventions with Wikipedia and it's good that you get a good understanding of such things to ensure that you're able to get the help that you need, when you need it, without any unnecessary delay.
- Now, on to your question: as per the course page - "Each student will present for up to 5 minutes with 2 minutes for questions from the markers, if required. Presentations should not be shorter than 3 minutes." So, you will present individually (as you'll be marked individually) but in sequence as a group (as it's a presentation about a group project). I hope this answers your question. Don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page, if you need to ask me more about this, or since the conversation has been started her, you can leave a talk back banner at the bottom of my page leading me here. --ToniSant (talk) 12:52, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi everyone, I transcribed the video "Expectancy Violation Theory Cody Drive" on my Sandbox page. It has general information about the Expectancy violations theory, so I thought you might find it useful! Irina Predescu (talk) 13:25, 21 March 2014 (UTC).
- That's brilliant Irina, thank you! How're you getting on with the presentation? Are you ready for tomorrow ? :) DanielleForrester1991 (talk) 12:33, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
