Swithland Slate suggestion

Hi Dave, thanks for doing some editing about Swithand Slate. It is good to see you having a go, and starting by doing small edits (much the best way to start getting the hang of things). I will just make a couple of suggestions at this stage, one really easy, and one that takes us all ages to get used to. The easy one first - make sure that all your punctuation has a space after it, to keep everything nicely spaced. It would be good practice to go back over the edits you have done to check these out. You can also use the 'Show Preview' button, to have a look at the thing before it has been saved for public view.

The second is the issue of citations. Wikipedia is about assembling what is known from reliable sources. So any new information added to a page should be backed up by a citation, saying where the information has been written about. Lots of pages have ended up with lots of un-sourced information, and you will come across warnings on some of pages. To avoid this happening to your edits, you will want to get into the habit of adding references, which might be to either a printed book or a reliable website. By putting this between <ref> ... </ref> commands in the text, it will get added to the footnotes at the bottom of the page. A good place to learn more is at Help:Citations quick reference, which also has useful links to further explanations. In short, when editing for wikipedia it is not enough to know a thing is true, you need to be prepared to find out who has convincingly published that it is true. That way both other editors and more importantly, interested readers can both test its reliability, and take their interest further.

I have one suggestion for further development: have you thought about potentially adding an Aftermath section, to explain the subsequent events and provide any analysis? Hi AR, not sure if I'm replying in the right place here. Thanks for your message. I've expanded the article a bit. Not quite sure which subsequent events or what analysis you mean. It may be a task best left to others, but I might give it a go if you could make some suggestions. I have come to have a particular interest in the battle because two of my distant relatives were killed in it and because my local regiment formed part of 46th Division.
One of my relatives was a tank gunner killed in the attack to which I refer where 4 heavy and 5 medium tanks were destroyed. He was in 8th Battalion in 5th Tank Brigade supporting 15th Infantry Brigade A.I.F. and the freely available stuff from the A.W.M. has been really useful. G'day, yes here is the right place to reply. Regarding subsequent events and analysis I would suggest a discussion of any follow up attacks, or if the line was advanced in the sector any further before the end of the war. Also, I'd suggest mentioning casualties etc. An example of what I mean can be found here: Winter operations 1914–1915. Anyway, thanks for your efforts. If you wish to use the newer edition, I recommend that you check the page numbers in your refs. I also did not actually answer your question. So: you used the cite book template. this template has a "url" parameter. so to make the link just add the parameter, like this:

I will check the 1992 edition. The reason I quoted the 1938 ed was that this seems to be the one to which the current website links when I look at the ABMC info on the Somme American Cemetery or the Bellicourt Memorial.
