Middle-earth in, er, film, er, TV, er, moving something-or-other

Hi, we had a discussion a while back about this and it's popped up again at Talk:Adaptations of Middle-earth concerning both that article and the associated template. We'd best find some sort of solution that sticks. Would be glad to hear your opinion. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:04, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

@Chiswick Chap: I'm sorry, I was quite busy on New Year's Eve/New Year. Anyhow, I do like the consensus you guys reached there. FWIW, I would not have renamed the page either, but this way works too in my book. De728631 (talk) 17:41, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks, agree. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:56, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:LogoAMNF.png

Thanks for uploading File:LogoAMNF.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:19, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

User:Tttom and User:TTThom

Thank you for putting the 'in memoriam' notice on the Commons user page for User:TTThom. I remember well seeing his artworks here when he first released them for use, and was saddened to only just now learn that he had died. Confusingly, his Wikipedia account seems to have had a different spelling: User:Tttom. I see that you placed a memorial notice on his Wikipedia talk page. Do you think it is worth putting something on his user page as well (I am not up-to-date on the latest policies around that)? I did notice that (mostly automated) messages are still being left on his user talk page (I can't remember if there is a mechanism to avoid that or if trying too hard to avoid that can cause unexpected problems?).

The other question I had is whether is is OK to make the link with (and link to) the Wikipedia article that was created recently by User:Chiswick Chap (I am linking his username to alert him to this discussion)? The article is at Tom Loback. I can understand if the link should not be made explicit, but would an entry at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2015 be justifiable? Carcharoth (talk) 17:56, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. We should definitely have a notice on his Wikipedia page; his identity was not secret, but at this point it would not matter anyway. I'd like to mention it also on WikiProject Middle-earth. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:55, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
@Chiswick Chap: :Hello and thank you for contacting me about these matters. I believe the common place for memorial templates at the English Wikipedia is still the user's talk page because that is where most other users would try to contact them. At Commons we put such notes on a deceased user's "front page".
As to linking from the article, I wouldn't do that but we might want to add Tom Loback aka User:Tttom to Wikipedia:Notable people who have edited Wikipedia. What do you think?
OK. I'm not sure I see why the links are fine in one direction but not the other, unless you're waiting for a reliable source or something. Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:15, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Maybe it's me though who is misunderstanding the links question on linking, so could you please give some examples of which links bidirectional or otherwise between the article and his user pagevyou meant? I do think, however, that an entry at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2015 is jusitified. De728631 (talk) 05:53, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
Please go ahead then, that's sufficient. We'd need a RS to say he was a Wikipedian. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:18, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
I tried to add something at WP:Deceased Wikipedians/2015 but there appears to be some template mechanic behind it that I didn't get. I asked Pigsonthewing instead who is a project member for this tyoe of affairs. De728631 (talk) 13:46, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

@Carcharoth and Chiswick Chap: I was given instructions how to edit that page, and so I wrote a section about Tom at WP:Deceased Wikipedians/2015. Please feel free to improve and copyedit it. De728631 (talk) 11:21, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Looks good. Many thanks for writing that. Carcharoth (talk) 00:15, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

A Request

Hello @De728631, may I ask you for a proofreading? It is user:Alossola/WDR Big Band which I translated from de:WDR Big Band, leaving out "Bandleader".

From April 17, oldid=1150281781, on, I developed the lemma some more, especially writing "short history" to replace the translated "History".
I'd be delighted by your contribution! If you are too occupied elsewhere, do you know anybody else I might ask? Alossola (talk) 15:15, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

@Alossola: Hi there, and congratulations to the nice article. I had a look at it and found it well-written and true to the German version. Well done. De728631 (talk) 15:20, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
@De728631: Thank you very much! Despite some experience I still struggle with nifty details like prepositions etc. - false friends are my friends ;) Alossola (talk) 18:40, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Always precious
