Looks like we edit-conflicted on the page move there. I have no particular opinion whether it should be at William Pillar or William Thomas Pillar, feel free to move it back if it makes a difference to you. Thanks :) ~ mazca t|c 12:33, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

How does one leave an email address for a Wiki-person which can not be seen by others?--aajacksoniv (talk) 23:57, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
question...
I wrote to the administrator who concluded the speedy deletion you initiated for Brandon Neely. He or she userified it for me.
No offense, but I would like you to consider the possibility you were too hasty.
I believe the criteria for speedy deletion are pretty clear. Contributors are allowed to place an A7 speedy deletion tag on articles that do not assert notability. Sometimes determining whether the article "asserts notability" is a judgment call, because the article says, "Joe Blow" won a Nobel Prize, or "Joe Blow" testified before the US Congress. It is pretty well accepted that winning a Nobel is notable. Testifying before Congress is less clear.
But when an article explicitly says: "Joe Blow is notable for...", or "Notably, Joe Blow did X...", then hasn't that article clearly asserted notability, and isn't it then simply not eligible for an A7 speedy deletion?
The second sentence of the Brandon Neely article stated:
Neely is notable for agreeing to be interviewed by the Center for the Study of Human Rights in the Americas and the University of California, at Davis.
Doesn't this sentence contain an explicit assertion of notability? Doesn't that mean this article was not eligible for speedy deletion?
My interpretation of our policies is that you are completely entitled to disagree that by testifying, at length, about multiple abuses Brandon Neely fulfilled our notability requirements. But wouldn't the policy compliant way for you to express that concern have been to leave a note on the article's talk page, or place a {{notability}} tag on the article? Geo Swan (talk) 15:31, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
P.S.
Neely may have put his pension at risk by testifying. Neely testified that the day before he was scheduled to be transferred from Guantanamo he was made to sign an agreement:
"I also want it to be known that we were told by the United States Army that, if we did not sign this piece of paper that stated we would not talk to the press, write a book, or make a movie, we could not leave and go back home. This happened the day before we left."
Speedy declined on Totzi
I have declined the speedy deletion of Totzi because there is sufficient context to identify the subject. Now, a Google search turns up no hits, but non-verifiability is not a criterion for speedy deletion. I have proposed deletion of the article, however. —C.Fred (talk) 23:14, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- The Latin name would also have helped, as it may have pointed us to an already existing article on the subject, so the stub could've been turned into a redirect. That said, I think the stub is a good faith addition, so that's why I'm letting it stand. The prod gives time for the original editor to improve the article. If I thought it were bad faith, I would delete it under criterion G3, vandalism. —C.Fred (talk) 23:24, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Symble equations...
Your recent edit of Symble equations for ammonia gas seems and odd choice to deal with the situation. I don't think it's proper to deal with a questionable article by redirecting it to another article and simultaneously nominating the redirection (your own redirection!) for speedy deletion. If an article is of questionable value but doesn't fall under one of the speedy deletion categories, perhaps a PROD is the better solution? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:19, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Appreciate your forbearance Distaffperp (talk) 01:55, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- Note that a Google search on "Daniel Malakov" now results in over 100,000 hits. I believe the notability issue has been put to rest. Thank you for your understanding. Distaffperp (talk) 19:55, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi De728631, do you think this article is really worth keeping. scope_creep (talk) 22:46, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- There is dozens of Isreal-<Insert country> articles, created these last few weeks, each with only few sentences. I think its a kind of article that doesn't necessarily add any value. scope_creep (talk) 22:54, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Nut-Free Candy
Look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/iandex.php?title=Sweet_delight_-_nut_free_candy&rcid=285193478&redirect=no. This looks Identical to the article we were disscussing on my talk page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tarheel95 (talk • contribs) 00:14, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
I untagged it because the redirect doesn't have a full stop where as the article page does. I believe that the search function would care about this. Given that many people don't use a full stop with Mr (see Mister (Mr.)) it seems a likely search term and so a logical redirect. Dpmuk (talk) 13:50, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

163.153.164.51
HI. I'm confused by your warnings to 163.153.164.51. Your first warning was added to the user page after their last edit. Then two minutes later you gave them an additional warning (level 3), even though no new edits had occurred since your first warning. Can you review your warnings on this? Thanks. --NERIC-Security (talk) 15:19, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- (quoting reply from my page):Hi. As it takes at least a minute or so to get from assessing and/or reverting a user's contribution to placing a warning on their talk page, there is always a delay between the actual vandalism and the warning being issued. My warnings were referring to the multiple changes this IP made one by one on Marine biology.
- Yes, but as noted in Wikipedia:WARN The purpose of user warnings is to guide good-faith testers and dissuade bad-faith vandals. Issuing more than one warning level simultaneously serves no purpose, since they did not get the first warning before you escalated to the next resort. In this case, the user stopped after your first warning. Warnings are not intended to document the user's edits, just let them know that they what they have done is not acceptable. Wouldn't you agree? --NERIC-Security (talk) 16:32, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- While I generally agree with sorting good-faith edits from bad-faith vandals, I tend to apply my warnings based on the level and the quality of vandalism. Judging from the quality of this particular IP's edits, it was clearly bad-faith vandalism which was repeatedly applied to one single article. I've seen vandals slice articles to pieces by slowly deleting tiny bits in a row of ten or so edits. Therefore I don't see a problem in issuing several warnings within a short period of time - which does as well happen when several users are warning the same vandal. Better to stop bad-faith editors and juvenile pranksters sooner than later. De728631 (talk) 16:50, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- That does not seem to be the case here. A single user make several edits, which btw you did not revert. You then warned the user. The user did not make additional edits after your warning, but you warned them a second time. That second warning strikes me as running contrary to what is in WP:WARN. --NERIC-Security (talk) 17:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- As I said above, when I had issued the first warning, I found that in the meantime the IP had again vandalised the article, so I gave them another warning. Yes, I did not revert these edits, since someone else was faster than me but forgot to issue warnings to the vandal. I don't see anything wrong with this process and will continue to do so. De728631 (talk) 17:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, hope you don't mind but I've declined the speedy deletion of Nikos tatasopoulos as in my opinion "performed at opening ceremony of Olympic games" is an assertion of notability. If you disagree feel free to prod it or take it to AFD WereSpielChequers 15:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I think you're probably right...it was catalan (took in for (brazilian) portuguese at first). But my langugages get all confused here in Brussels (Speaking, hearing and reading French, German, English, Flams), so I read and understood it without really registering which language it was in. Btw, I did not find anything related here on-wiki, at least not with the keywords). Cheers. Lectonar (talk) 13:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Indonesian villages
Notability issues abound as does the push to name and identify every island of Indonesia, I hope to put up a comment at the Indonesian project noticeboard - as well as speak in my very rough Indonesian with the recent editors wanting their 10 minutes of fame of having their village on WP en - please feel free to contact me if you feel you have anything to say about this SatuSuro 03:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok - sorry when I sent the above I was considering going to contact a range of editors who have helped at different stages save non notable village stubs created over the last 6 months or so to check what non indonesian editors feel about my recent comment at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Indonesia.
The problem is that WP Indonesia (the Indonesian language project - we call it Id for short) has a large amount of non notable villages entered with no WP:RS or WP:N in sight - and it seems we are getting some creep into WP Indonesia en. Sorry to have bothered. SatuSuro 09:09, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah well I better show my colours here - I am not a fan of falling rain - we have had issues with it in relation to usage in the Australian project and I am not necessarily in favour of a huge number of non notable islands or villages flooding (sic) the Indonesia project - but hey done the right way an enthusiasm on your part is not to be discouraged :) and I might be convinced otherwise SatuSuro 09:19, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
aarrgghhhhhhhh - Indonesian-related lists arrghhhh arrghhhh Dont let me even start - the issues are many - I have to get off at the moment - I will try to get back and explain the dilemmas - thanks for the - chat the real world intervenes - till later and thanks for giving me the time!SatuSuro 09:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

- Oh, that one. Yes, I was wondering what to do with it, since it looked both non-notable and totally gibberish at the same time to me. As I was on the article's history, others have also tagged it as A7 but someone started cleaning it up in the end. De728631 (talk) 16:48, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

This procedure is only for uncontested deletion, so if anyone, including the article author, removes a prod tag with or without improving the article or giving a reason it shouldn't be replaced [2]. The procedure to follow for contested deletions is described at WP:AFD. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi
I noticed the comments that you added, then removed, on my talkpage. No worries, I assume you looked closer and realized that someone was dropping unsourced material into the middle of properly cited information which is what I was correcting. When I came to your page I noticed a link to Zacharias Tanee Fomum and some discussion on its merits. After reviewing that article it seems that in addition to being poorly written and containing some highly questionable claims, the subject is completely non-notable. The article appears to be purely a vanity entry by either the subject or one of his students. If the speedy fails, please nom it for deletion and I'll be right there to back you up! Thanks, and keep up the good work :) Doc Tropics 14:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Doc, that was indeed what I found out when I checked the respective article histories. I'll keep an eye on the Fomum page too and will happily nominate it for AfD if needed. Regarding good work, the same goes for you :) De728631 (talk) 14:35, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Alanna Heiss page
Hi! Thanks for checking out the Alanna Heiss page and offering your advice. I assume that you placed a tag on this page because my username is Artonair, which is also the website for Heiss's new organization, Art International Radio; clearly, it would seem, this is a conflict of interest. And I am indeed a part-time unpaid intern for Art International Radio, but no one who actually works there told me to create this page; I took it upon myself, considering it odd that Heiss didn't have a page, although she does have a fairly lengthy bio on the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center page. I do not believe that any of the information on the page itself is biased, and that the only thing causing this problem is that I thoughtlessly chose to make my username the same as Heiss's organization; but is this a problem in and of itself, even if the actual page doesn't reflect any bias? If I had just made my username, say, "artfan," I doubt any claims of impartiality would have been made. What might I do to assure the veracity and neutrality of this article? Thanks so much for your time and help! Artonair (talk) 19:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi, De728631. I just wanted to check in again to see if you've read over my comment; I understand you must be quite busy and don't want to further burden you, however. If the page does seem unbiased to you, despite my affiliation with AIR, please let me know. It would just be nice, I suppose, to get that banner taken off the top of the page! Thanks so much; I hope all's well. Artonair (talk) 15:13, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Interstate Lift Trucks
Hello - I am new to Wikipedia, and am trying to assert an entry for Interstate Lift Trucks. I realize the first effort had too much "advertising" possibility. However, this effort, taking out any potential advertising bias, now it was "speedily deleted" for notability. There are several reasons that the company itself should be noted - it is one of the older Toyota lift truck franchises in the area, it is one of the most decorated by Toyota's President's Award, and has been in business for over 40 years serving the Cleveland, OH area. I am not going to continue writing content, just to have it deleted. Are there any suggestions you can make? I have reviewed several other local company entries and they had (what I consider to be) less notability than this business which has been run for 40 years serving the local community. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danhegler (talk • contribs) 13:07, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

HI! Thanks for your quick expansion of this article. If you are interested there is Category:Articles needing translation from German Wikipedia. We need as many people who speak German as possible to expand them! Let anybody else know who speaks German on here! Regards, Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:57, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Excellent. We've given the translation project an overhaul and rather than now waiting for requests we apply the tags and have articles needing translation in categories. Tags are not attractive but neither are stubs! There is a great deal of work of course but every single one editor who puts in time is greatly needed and appreciated! IN particular Swiss and German geo articles particularly on municipalities are mostly all very short and a good length on German wiki, but whatever takes your fancy! I've been traslating many from Spanish myself, fraid I don't understand much German. Its good practice for language skills too! Keep up the good work. If you could spread the word about these new categories I'd be very grateful. Cheers Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:12, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I didn't look too closely at the article (I'm going through all the Spanish GAs to see what we could use to improve our content). What I saw without reading closely is that theirs appears much better referenced than ours. (So maybe "expand" isn't the best phrasing - perhaps "improve" would be better, but we don't have that tag yet.) If you want to take it off the article, that's fine - I don't feel strongly. Hi. I always put a tag on the talk page which shows the provenance of the orginal article on de:wiki as recommended by Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate which says:

Two sets of coordinates. Necessary? Maybe not.
I started to react negatively, but I started to think about it and came to a compromise. If you add "| coord_display =inline, title" in the NRHP infobox so the coordinates show up in the title line, then I think it's a good idea. Thanks for pushing that thought on me, albeit inadvertantly (Putting it in the title gives a more obvious place for the user to click and is, I think, essential for the site to show up in Google and Bing.) Please reply here to keep it all together. Regards, Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk • contribs) 23:43, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Good idea. Since we've already got a map for a quick look in the NRHP box, I opted for "title" only. Now the coordinates are displayed in the "usual" place, we've got a map and two infoboxes. That should be it :) De728631 (talk) 18:34, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi there! An editor has requested clarification on his talk page regarding a template you put on an article he created. I do not have an opinion, but was just going through the category of editors seeking help and noticed his request and thought I might pass it along. Cheers! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 17:41, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Cool!
Looks as if we have a nice new stub on that Nigerian town. NICE job with the taxobox. :)) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 20:04, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks :) I took the code from Ilorin, which has a whole rather promotional section about a certain mosque. This one needs urgent pov-removal. De728631 (talk) 20:07, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, some spit-and-polish would be nice, but it's a darn good start and I'll defer to your expertise on the subject. In fact, I started doing POV-ectomies on an old article of mine just yesterday. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 20:11, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Ooh, never mind...I see what you mean! Thought you were referring to the new article and the Christian/Muslim thing. "POV-ectomy" doesn't come close to what that Ilorin article will need. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 20:13, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I was tempted to throw the whole section into the bin but then this building as such seems to be noteworthy after all. I'll try to apply some radical surgery these days. De728631 (talk) 20:16, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Removal of McLean Group Article
The McLean Group article was recently deleted by De728631. I am confused as to why the article was removed. How might it still be included in this valuable resource? I would truly appreciate any suggestions as I have spent much time composing a bibliographical reference of the firm and its members’ historical importance. Thanks you!
Oh great, another one.
Great. You beat me to redirecting a page. Have a nice life! :) (I'm just joking, nice job! No one's done that before.)Abce2|This isnot a test 13:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I am working and you are being disruptive
Your manner is offensive and you are being disruptive. It is contributors like you that are reducing the number of new contributors and stopping people from being involved in the Community. Over-vigilance is violence to our Community. Why don't you do something constructive rather than stopping someone working on an article that is long overdue? I hereby strip you of your awards, you don't deserve any of them.

SBB stubs
Hi, thanks for that info - I'll add that cat to future articles. While on the subject, do you have any idea about article naming conventions - ie should it be SBB (loco class) or SBB-CFF-FFS (loco class)? I've seen both used. I don't know enough about Swiss railway history myself to be sure what is correct - I just thought it a shame that so few loco classes are represented on the English wiki. Pearce kelleher
Just a friendly note on Pearce kelleher. I declined the A7 speedy because the sources included are a good faith claim of importance. (Wish the book was online, though). I noticed in the edit summary you thought this might be a hoax: I'm wondering if that's because the title of the article has the guy's middle name and the sources refer to his first name? Anyway, if you think notability isn't there (it's marginal at this point, to be sure), feel free to take to AfD. Cheers!--Fabrictramp | talk to me 22:33, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Oceania is a continent.
You are wrong, Oceania is a continent that includes the country Australia! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supertwin2 (talk • contribs) 22:11, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Supertwin2
OCEANIA, the smallest continent, is one of the most diverse and fascinating areas on the planet.
A large percentage of geography experts now consider the long-established continent of Australia to be more accurately defined as Australia/Oceania.
Collectively it then combines all of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, as well as the thousands of coral atolls and volcanic islands of the South Pacific Ocean, including the Melanesia and Polynesia groups.
Oceania also includes Micronesia, a widely scattered group of islands that run along the northern and southern edges of the Equator. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supertwin2 (talk • contribs) 22:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Hello De, I removed the tag that you placed on Conifer grove school. It should be noted that school are not eligble for deletion under A7. I will try an expand the article over the next half hour. I haven't done anything with the warning issued to Batista women, I don't really mind either way if it stays or goes, but I'll leave that up to you. Kind regards SpitfireTally-ho! 20:34, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for the vigilange (although I personally don't agree with that guideline regarding schools). I'll let the author know about your removing the tag. De728631 (talk) 20:44, 29 October 2009 (UTC) Edit: And the school's located in New Zealand ;) De728631 (talk) 20:48, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)To be honest I agree with you, the exclusion of schools from A7 basically means that anyone can go ahead and create an article on their local primary school, still, its a policy that has been agreed on by the community and I just try and find the articles to improve them as best I can, in this particular instance there's not many sources on the article so it should be possible to pursue deletion via a prod or AfD if you want to. Thanks, kind regards SpitfireTally-ho! 20:51, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- PS: Thanks for the correction, my mind must be half asleep, kinda hard to mix those two up! SpitfireTally-ho! 20:51, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi there De728631. I want to inform you that you were unwittingly part of an experiment of newbie treatment in which I participated under a different name. The purpose of WP:NEWT is to determine how experienced users would be treated if they were new users and created sub-standard but viable articles. The alternative account was LestWeBeScattered; you can find a description of my experience at WP:NEWT#Articles by Olaf Davis in case you are interested. Also, I want to apologise for having deceived you and used your time in this way, diverting it from real work on the encyclopedia. If I can offer my time and services for anything you need in return, feel free to ask at any time. Cheers, Olaf Davis (talk) 22:17, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Shahidul Islam (journalist)
Hello De728631, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of Shahidul Islam (journalist) - a page you tagged - because: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. NW (Talk) 22:03, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
You appear to have requested a speedy deletion of this page in order to move into its place a page with a title in Arabic. This is not acceptable on the English wikipedia. Articles must, to survive here, be in English ans have English titles. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:15, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- OK. Fairly clearly, what you asked for is not what you thought you had asked for. If you intend to modify the text of the existing article then you can just directly do it yourself, although it is best if a significant change is discussed first at the talk page. If you want a different article with a different title, just write it. If you want the same article with a different, but English, title, let me know the title and I will move it for you.
In answer to part of your comment, as far as I know there are no articles in the English wikipedia with titles which are not in the Roman alphabet, though there are certainly some with foreign language titles. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Redirects from Cyrillic, Greek and so forth, yes. Not to them. I am really not trying to be difficult or obstructive, although perhaps it looks that way. What is the title of the article as you would like to see it? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:40, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
AIV and User:Alex_george2001
As a frequent reporter to AIV I know how frustrating it is when reports are not acted on, and as a very new admin I hesitated what to do about this one, but decided that as he had never had a Welcome (with its explanatory links) and his first warning had been a final one, I would give him one more chance even though he put the article in again. I have salted the title for a week which should give him time to get over it; I will watch him and will certainly block if he tries it again under a variant title. Pie and Bovril
Despite the initial flaming from others, I feel the website does merit a Wikipedia Article. P&B is one of the (if not the) largest online Scottish Football communities, and has received national news coverage in the form of debate on the BBC Radio Scotland programme "Off the Ball" on 1st March 2009. The owner was invited onto the well known football chatshow for general discussion about Scottish football in the online age as well as to explain the history and character of Pie and Bovril itself. With over 16, 000 contributors, including a number of reasonably well known Scottish journalists, it seems to fulfil at least the first criteria for notability on the link you gave me.
I would suggest if you keep it that editing be frozen for a while, then when the flaming attempts settle down, sensible contributors such as myself can produce a more thorough encyclopaedic contribution worthy of P&B and Wikipedia.
Many thanks Redandyellowarmy (talk) 21:38, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Pie and Bovril (2)
Firstly, my apologies for not following protocol with the bottom of page submission.
I would counter your claim of insufficient notabiliy. The Web Notability is defined in the criteria as:
"The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself. This criterion includes reliable published works in all forms, such as newspaper and magazine articles, books, television documentaries, websites, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations"
Given that content from P&B is cited weekly on Sportscene Results and has been discussed in detail on the BBC's "Off the Ball" Radio Show, this means it has been subject of multiple non-trivial publication by the BBC (a source independent of the site itself).
I would argue that this means the website fulfils the criteria. I should stress that what is present at the moment is really only a stub. Should you permit the page to stand, I know of two other regular P&B and Wikipedia contributors who would flesh out this stub with additional authoritative sources in the course of time.
Many thanks once again
Redandyellowarmy (talk) 22:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Jumping in here... I declined the speedy because the article made a claim of significant news coverage and a controversy. The claims are a bit weak, but enough to avoid speedy. However, since my search for reliable sources is coming up fairly empty, I've taken the article to WP:AFD, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pie and Bovril.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:19, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Solomon Learning Institute, Edmonton
Just a friendly note on Solomon Learning Institute, Edmonton. I declined the speedy request because A7 specifically excludes schools. Paul Kammerer: translation
Hi! I've been trying to work on improving the page Paul Kammerer, and I thought it would be good to get the German page translated. I found a link to your userpage at Wikipedia:translators available#German-to-English, so I thought I'd ask you. The page in question already has a good deal of rather poor and lopsided text, so I think it would be best to translate the page out of the main article space; merge in the existing text, the improvements I'd like to make, and the sources from the German Wikipedia; and then move the expanded version of the article into the article space. If you are interested, or can refer me to another Wikipedian who might be, please leave a note at my talk page. Thanks, —innotata (Talk • Contribs • s:) 18:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
