Notability of Barnburgh village singers

A tag has been placed on Barnburgh village singers, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Barnburgh Village Singers

Just a clarification for me. You deleted the article on the above "because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time."

Significance? Possibly - although they are quite big in this part of the country! Just two observations which will help my understanding :

(1) Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir - for example - has a mention, like several other choirs. Surely this "article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable" similarly. I've looked, but perhaps I'm missing something. Could you clarify to make sure I understand what you think is notable?

(2)Time War (Doctor Who) - this is an example of a huge content on something completely fictional. Surely better to have something corporeal (like the Barnburgh Village Singers) than something made up? I thought this was a serious reference place? Again, perhaps, you'd explain and put me right?

As the person who tagged the article as meeting the criteria for speedy deletion, I'll take a stab at this. Generally, the concept of "but this other article exists in Wikipedia" isn't a great argument, as covered by the essay at WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. However, if you take a look at the first example, Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, the article documents that they had an album that charted at #7, which would seem to satisfy criteria 2 at Wikipedia:Notability (music). The article you posted didn't show how it met any of the criteria of Wikipedia:Notability (music). The article as it was didn't show a similar notability for Barnburgh Village Singers. Now, if sources for Notability exist for the group, then we'd be happy to see the article back in Wikipedia. An admin may be able to undelete the page and/or move it into your User: space to work on if you think you can show Notability. As for the Dr. Who reference, TV shows have specific criteria for listing (Wikipedia:Television episodes), which are different than the ones for Band/Musical Groups, although both follow the basic tenet of needing sources for content in Wikipedia, as described in the Notability link above. - Fordan (talk) 18:18, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

In line images

Hi, just spotted additions of in-line links to images on flickr to St James' Church, High Melton which is not desirable. The images should be uploaded to wiki or to commons, assuming that they are suitably licensed, and used directly in the article or if uploaded to commons then can be linked to using {{commons cat}} in the See also section of the article. IC Wikisoc!

Dear Dearnesman - My name is Vinesh Patel, a 5th Year medic at Imperial. I'm trying to start an Imperial College Wikipedia society, presenting to the union by the end of the month. Would you be interested?

My team and I want to get people working in groups for edits. Non-academic and academic edits would be great to work on in groups – an IC Wikipedia soc would be cool! This has already been achieved in the States but we would be the first student society in the UK. http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_student_clubs. We are also pursuing lots of other things – research into Wikipedia use, GLAM wiki stuff with local museums, using Wikipedia in teaching.

Whether you are a current student or alumnus, I think it would be great to get a community linked together from Imperial, which can give so much to the world’s free information because of the knowledge base here – and have fun doing it!
