Your assistance please

The record shows you deleted File:J-6 Shenyang.jpg. User:Gerd 72, the contributor who uploaded this image uploaded about one hundred images of Albanian military installations or equipment, one or two at a time, over the last two and a half years. Most of the image they uploaded were deleted, in one fell swoop, about a month ago.

I looked at User:Gerd 72's talk page. I thought they offered a very credible explanation as to how they got access to that Albanian military installations and equipment.

I could see that a small minority of the images Gerd 72 uploaded were scans of previously published images. Many good faith uploaders make the mistake of thinking they possess intellectual property rights to scans of PD material. I'd like to confirm that. Would you mind taking a look at this image, and telling me if it were a scanned image, or an ordinary photo?

We were wondering if you could unblock the creation for the Adil Omar wikipedia page. This artist page was blocked in 2007 when it was created without any references... Removal of personal information from ANI

You may wish to know that "Randy from Boise" is a phrase used to indicate a hypothetical person whose opinions are worthless, rather than being the actual identity of any person participating in that ANI discussion. It's not. Steward tool use is detailed at Wikipedia:Global_rights_policy#Stewards. It states "In emergency situations where local users are unable or unavailable to act, stewards are asked to use their global rights to protect the best interests of Wikipedia." Witholding judgement until this gets sorted out. It would be useful if DerHexer could briefly outline the interactions that he undertook when using his steward tools here. Where is the certainty as to who oversighted coming from? The AN/I discussion says DerHexer removed the quote but couldn't tell who oversighted it. The global permissions for stewards don't appear to include the hiding of revisions, "hiderevision". The user rights log doesn't indicate any change in DerHexer's rights here. The local rights here are administrator. The global rights log which would show changes to the stewards rights also doesn't appear to have changed. Well that's one thing I don't have. Don't see it matters much, anyone can look at the AN/I discussion where no one confirms the oversighter, and the logs linked show what they show. Bremer Stadtbibliothek und Bremer Zentralbiblithek

Im Bundesland Bremen, in der Stadt Bremen verwenden die Damen und Herren der Politik unter Leitung der LeiterIn der Stadtbibliothek ("Roland Center" Artikel Wikipedia) und der Zentralbibliothek ("Am Wall" Artikel Wikipedia) ein und die selbe IP. Eigentlich ist es unverhältnissmässig IP-Adressen für drei Jahre zu sperren, 180 Tage oder ganz (Proxy IP) mM. Also lieber Freund mach diese und ähnliche Fälle (IP) bitte frei. Eins muss man der deutschen Wikipedia lassen

Wenn man einen Eintrag, der nicht ins linke Meinungsbild passt macht, wir man unbegrenzt gesperrt. Linke Pöbelei wird eher toleriert. Ist das nicht ziemlich erbärmlich für ein sogenanntes offenes Projekt? -- Adherent of the Enlightenment 10.0 (talk) 16:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Beispiel:

Weist man daraufhin, dass der hervorgehobene Abschnitt unnötig zu erwähnen ist (da der Begriff Folter eher selbsterklärend ist), kassiert es einer Vandalismusmeldung von einem linken User (den Namen will ich mal nicht nennen aus Anstand), obwohl ich nicht beleidigend bin. Und schon gibt es eine Sperre. Wow! Ist aus der Diskussion:Pinochet. Wie gesagt, offenbar wenn es einem linken User nicht passt, dann kann er ohne weiteres einen ihm unliebsamen User sperren lassen. Unfassbar. Deswegen ziemlich empört. Und die allermeisten edits waren ja auch konstruktiv. Und dann verlangt man noch eine Range-Sperre. That's just one opinion. I prefer transparency and reversibility instead of
quickness or efficiency.

Done! I was able to restore the page in 1500 edit chunks and move them to new archive pages! I'm still unsure as to why I hit a 5000 edit limit on deletion, especially since there weren't 5000 edits; the total number of edits was a little over 3000. Something in the underlying system, perhaps...corrupt file or header. Anyway, I'm in good shape with three new archives of my moved user talk page edits.[5][6][7]. Thanks so much for your help! Mistaken deletion?

I see you deleted a user talk page citing U1. However U1 does not allow for the deleting user talk pages:

• Personal user pages and subpages (but not user talk pages) upon request by their user. In some rare cases there may be administrative need to retain the page. In exceptional cases user talk pages may be deleted via Miscellany for Deletion (see right to vanish); they are not eligible for speedy deletion under this criterion.

If the user wants his talk page deleted then he needs to make a request at MFD. If there's anything that needs oversighting then that should be handled separately from a deletion.   Will Beback  talk  11:37, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

User:Kermanshahi

Hi. You blocked User:Kermanshahi for sockpuppetry, but I believe that this is old history. I have encountered and blocked a lot of these editors (Jouke Bersma, Trotse Roma, The Bold Guy, ...) and reverted a lot of their edits (like some of the edits by User:Pierlot, who is now blocked for sokcpuppetry, surprise). However, while Kermanshahi initially was part of the same gang, he seems to have left behind these things years ago now, and I don't believe that he has sockpuppeteered since. He may have other editing problems, but I don't think we should block people now for things in the far past. If you have more evidence that I am not aware of, or other reasons to block him anyway, no problem of course, but if not, I'ld like you to reconsider the block. If you keep him blocked, perhaps it is best that you also note this on his talk page, as is usually the case. Fram (talk) 06:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

He is now appealing that block and frankly it sounds pretty compelling to me. The only thing you have noted in the block log is a page on the Dutch Wikipedia. If that's all the evidence you have that he is engaging in disruptive socking on this project I don't find that adequate reason to block this user. From what I've seen, Kermanshahi's recent conduct here is pretty much what's described at http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:MoiraMoira/Overleg_gebruiker:Kermanshahi/blockmsg - the editing pattern is basically the same. I was asked to comment here by DerHexer as nl-wiki admin. It is 1 or 2 or 3 persons also impersonating each other. They are / he is from The Netherlands. We lost track of all the made up stories and fake accusations and fake identities <sigh>. All stories are fake, all things said and done are wrong often. Important is that the articles on various subject keep suffering on various wikipedia versions because of the disruptive edits, wrong additions, editwars and much more as can be found on the file I compiled. It is up to you on en-wiki to reconsider the block of course. I only can advice you to keep in mind articles suffer, people keep getting problems with the edits and it costs tuns of energy to repair damage done by many editors. I could give you lots of links like this one for example or this one or the total sockpuppet madness here (you need google translate). If you want to try and get a global block you will have to do it through the front door. I'm not aware of any policy that requires or even permits a user to be blocked here because of suspicion of sockpuppetry on a different project. I see. On the other hand, as far as I understand meta:Stewards, their role is to fill in for local groups that have no active members on a certain project and hence they are subject to local policy. As such, their input in an RFC like that should not be in the role of stewards but in the role of members of the local project and as such, the same rules should apply to them as do to other members of said project. Also, per meta:Bureaucrat, there are already a number of projects, including meta itself, where crats are allowed to act this way. Dear DerHexer, I am trying to change the article about Ashraf El-Hojouj, which appears to be "an attempt against the integrity of the Wikipedia". Apparently, the creator of the mentioned page was quite a retarded person, who showed no critical thinking and totally consumed Gaddafi's scenario and who could not even spell the name of the person correctly! MSU Interview

Dear DerHexer,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Bigdelete is simply a sensitive permissions developers wanted nobody except us and them to have because it's simply dangerous. We risk to break the entire site for performing a bad bigdelete, as it has happened in the past; included the inhability to normally restore what has been deleted sometimes (as it happened when it was deleted in error a page at meta with +40k revisions which had to be manually restored via bot). For that, we've been clearly told and instructed when to perform bigdelete actions and with which requirements (asking the operations team for approval, etc.). I've already mentioned some prerequisites at his talk page: These users should be highly trusted and technically skilled. They also should be able to use IRC to contact developers easily, and should know a bit about MediaWiki's database structure and bugs concerning RevisionDeletion and regular deletion. I personally think enwiki's oversights and/or crats are capable of dealing with this but I can also understand our developers to reduce the number of users who are able to use this damageable tool. It's obvious that Mr. Marcus Cyron is not willing to communicate with me. That's ok. Nevertheless, I believe that he can treat people with respect. In RL a behaviour like this would be inappropiate, to censor (to delete) contributions of others with insults. He may delete stating that he's not willing to get in contact but not with a troll comment. I informed him about this. I think it's a shame if important collaborators of a wikipedia chapter behave like this. As you both represent the German chapter of wikipedia, you officially, Mr. Marcus Cyron as a former administrator, as a writer in residence and much more, it's normal that people try to get in contact with you or with him, especially if they are involved in bizarre communication processes that convert de.wiki into a arbitrary "regime". As my Real-Life-Identity behind Filliou has been revealed by third parties accessing absolutely private database information within the de.wiki, I'm using my account Filliou only within the en.wiki as a sign of protest against the unpleasant manners, the bad practices, the mobbing and hounding that takes place within the de.wiki. Hi, I manage the server at 173.255.235.152. We had an open proxy issue last year but it's been fixed since last November. The IP is still listed as being blocked with this error message: "Editing from your IP address (173.255.235.152) has been blocked (disabled) on all Wikimedia wikis until 13:01, 9 August 2013 by DerHexer (meta.wikimedia.org) for the following reason...". After some help from the stewards on IRC, I noticed that the whole /18 subnet is blocked, so the entry in question is probably 173.255.192.0/18. This is a range of VPS servers hosted on Linode, I only operate one of those IPs so can only speak for it. Vandalism claim

Hello, I was editing Jim McCalliog's page and it was claimed by yourself as vandalism. These claims were apparently because the information was not useful or inappropriate. I disagree, the information was 100% factual and completely up to date which does make it useful. I am sitting directly opposite Jim McCalliog and he agrees, if you have any doubts about this information please call the number which was added to the page. I hope my vandalism claim is removed and the information is replaced where it belongs.

Under your Eastenders Wikipedia page you have written that Phil Mitchell's character is portrayed by "Jason Biggs", however this is incorrect as he is played by British actor Steve McFadden. I tried correcting this however you reverted the correction.

To whom it may concern, I actually made the change twice. The first time I edited the content and explained why with a Wikipedia edit summary. For several weeks no one responded, no one edited the Wikipedia web page, no one responded to me, nobody did anything...So I then made a second change to the content in Gopherus.

For the second change to Wikipedia I wrote the following, which is still included in the diet section under "Gopherus, to let someone know that reference number five should not be included: "Reference number 5 was a link to a company website advertising for profit gopher tortoise trapping and relocation services in Florida. The for profit company is called "Gopher Tortoises Services, Inc.". This is not a suitable reference regarding the diet of gopher tortoises. Wikipedia is merely allowing its website to be used as advertising for a for profit company. Information on the diet of gopher tortoises can be obtained instead from numerous peer reviewed articles on the gopher tortoise."

The company "Gopher Tortoises Services, Inc." has several times now attempted to use there website as a reference regarding gopher tortoises. The company use their reference, and link to their company website, as free advertising on Wikipedia. The information Gopher Tortoise Services, Inc. is supplying regarding gopher tortoises is not their own, but is taken from other sources such as peer reveiwed journals. Wikipedia should be using suitable references and not company advertisements.

Hi Dexter. I was only trying to make the use of names on Wiki consistent with its other pages. I got the name from this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Patriarchs_of_Antioch because it is confusing if they all have different names on different pages. It is much better if the names on all pages for the same person are in common don't you agree? According to Wikipedia:Username_policy#Promotional_names “A user who both adopts a promotional username and also engages in inappropriately promotional behaviors in articles about the company, group, or product, can be blocked. In such cases, administrators should examine the user's edits to decide whether or not to allow them to create a new username.“ By saying this, promotional usernames can be chosen as long as they don't engage in inappropriately promotional behaviors. If not, administrator can block these accounts. Does this apply to this very user? If not, I don't see any reason not to unblock this account (which I obviously forgot). Please also double-check User:Swarovski Kristallwelten and revert my action if you think it's necessary and appropriate, I'll accept it. Btw., the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use also allow companies and the like creating their own Wikipedia accounts as long as they clarify their background, payment, etc. And for these accounts, even OTRS confirmation was provided. Thanks for your message. After having renamed your account, I realized that with the last deployment of the global rename feature a new bug was created which made it impossible to rename subpages. I reported this bug and it got fixed very quickly. Unfortunately, all skipped page moves must be fixed now. The developer in charge of CentralAuth will take care of this. I'm not a bureaucrat on enwiki and only take care of obvious request as a Wikimedia steward. The username you requested (still) seems to be promotional to me, but I'm neither a native speaker nor super-experienced in this regard. User:Gil diaz at lalgbtcenter name change

I wanted to let you know that between the time that this user requested a username change to "Gil diaz at lalgbtcenter" and the time that you made the name change, their account was blocked. Given the block reason is only for the username, and the username was changed, the block should be removed. The editor, while not yet blocked, did make some conflict of interest edits at Lorri Jean, copy/pasting copyrighted text from their website. Hi derHexer, why did you change this username of Meleager on wikibooks NL? https://nl.wikibooks.org/wiki/Speciaal:Logboeken/renameuser. I saw the german user meleager did not do any edits from 2012. So why is this necessary? Ellywa (talk) 10:01, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi! In the upcoming weeks all accounts will be unified somehow by the Wikimedia Foundation. As nlwikibook's Meleager had no edits, the account was usurped due to metawiki's usurpation policy in order to prepare the unification of the global Meleager account (regardless of its activity).
