Speedy deletion nomination of Grey2K USA

Some tips to help you out!
editHi Dfesta, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)
First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.
Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Dfesta/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.
For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).
Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.
Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you.

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
editYou can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Here's a little bit of magic which can save you an awful lot of time and effort!
editYou might want to consider using this tool - (tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py) - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well all by itself. For those it can;t do by itself, it gives you a pull-down (or up) menu of templates to choose from, which you can then fill in manually. Often the problem is "No title found" - sometimes the title is obvious (especially if it's a pdf), bit, if not, just open the page yourself and choose soemthing appropriate if there's not already a clear title there. Non-free rationale for File:G2KUSA.pdf

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. editYour recent editing history at Greyhound racing shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Hi Drmies:
Greyhound breeders are attempting to modify this page with information that is either false, without proper sources, or intended to personally attack others.
They are doing this as an organized campaign. as evidenced by this screen shot from a political forum that greyhound breeders use called "Grey2k Lies" I can provide screen shots of their plots on facebook if that helps.
- Well, I will gladly protect the article if needs be. Your primary opponent is blocked already. But you have let yourself get dragged into a ridiculous edit war for which you could/should have been blocked as well: edit warring is edit warring even if you're right. What's more, you really need to read such pages as WP:COI and WP:NPOV, since I saw what you did at this article and at Grey2K USA--the content you (and others, no doubt also with a COI) added is simply not neutral enough to be acceptable here. I take the integrity of the article seriously and add only cited information. I will certainly let you know if we get more attacks to this or the GREY2K USA page before taking action myself. I appreciate your helping me understand the proper methods.
- Sure. Yes, edit warring is taken seriously here. That article you refer to was nominated for deletion and it was kept partly on the advice of a senior editor, and I am as interested as you are in seeing it improved--but that will have to come about in a non-neutral way, with references from secondary sources and all. I just noticed that another greyhound racing industry user User:Greytluver4 added in a false statement without citations onto the greyhound racing page. Are one of you or another admin able to address this? Thanks very much. Thank you talk, I am reading the information now. I tried to edit my public profile but it says I am no longer able to edit. I am happy to disclose my association with GREY2K USA, I am the communication director. The information I added before was cited and not meant to be biased, just a clear representation of the organization and facts about greyhound racing. Please let me know what I can do to add a disclosure while I am unable to edit. If possible we would like to resubmit some of this content for consideration using the using the {{request edit}} template. Every edit was accurate and cited to credible sources. - Dfesta, I'm not sure what's going on: you are not blocked and neither of the articles is protected. Anyway, editing by way of the talk page is, as Fluffernutter suggests, is a good idea. I'll tell you in brief what a few of my objections were: some information seemed too much like directory info (the list of countries/states, complete with lags), references were frequently to organizational publications (see WP:SECONDARY and WP:RS), some of the language ("established", for instance) was not neutral. Now, editorial input on the talk page can be quite helpful, and you may also invoke the assistance of experienced editors such as CorporateM, who has a soft spot for skinny dogs and who knows the ins and outs of COI editing like few other editors do. - The first step I would suggest is establishing whether Grey2K qualifies for a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia requires there be at least two in-depth profiles on an organization in credible, independent sources like the media before we can author a page on an organization. This is because we rely on independent sources we trust to be accurate to construct the article and if not enough sources exist, we can't author a meaningful work on the subject. If you could provide at least two sources that cover this non-profit in substantial depth, where Grey2K is the focus of the entire article, that are not press release reposts, brief mentions, quotes, awards/rankings, routine executive appointments, etc. but are real investigative journalism, I can help you from there.

- Corp, the article survived AfD (see Cullen's note, below), so I assume that notability isn't really a problem (I screwed up an edit summary--it should have read something like "notability not really questionable now" or something like that; I was referring to removing the tag). "Established" taken literally is neutral, of course, but also redundant (if an organization is not literally established then it does not exist). In this case, I took "established" to mean something like "respectable, respected", and that's not neutral. Note that the opposing editor called those clubs "extremist", which is far worse, and that's part of the reason they're blocked (and this one is not). Thanks for your help, Corp! - Ok, I've reviewed the links provided by User:Cullen328 in the 2011 AfD discussion, but they all look like boilerplates, quotes and brief mentions to me. The claim to notability provided from a source: "one of Massachusetts' most politically active anti-gambling groups" helps, though it's on a local state-level, as oppose to a national level claim. As our requirements have informally increased over the last few years, I'm not sure it would still pass deletion without substantive sources where Grey2K is the subject of a substantial body of work. I would still suggest the editor find the strongest sources available to prevent deletion, then start with filling in the infobox and maybe just a 1-2 paragraph stub might do the trick. Generally when I come across articles about marginally notable subjects that are artificially inflated with primary sources like the company website, I send them to deletion discussion, whereas if they are a short stub, using high-quality independent sources on a subject that does have some degree of coverage, there's no harm in keeping it. Thank you very much for helping me clarify and learn the wikipedia process better. I've updated my user page to disclose who I am and what I do. - This one is right on the money and should give the page a strong defense against deletion. I've started incorporating content from it into the article. A couple things I would suggest next:
- I've started a Reports section and I think the article would be improved with a 1 sentence summary of every major report that has gotten media coverage placed in chronological order (oldest first), with the press articles as citations.
- If you have time to fill in the parameters below (whichever ones are relevant), we could get a nice infobox up there. If you can point me to a good quality logo image, I can take care of that part.

CorporateM Thanks very much, I can work on getting you that content. We used to have a logo on the page and all of that infobox information up but it was taken down yesterday. I am glad that article was a good reference, I just noticed one addition to the page is inaccurate, GREY2K USA doesn't operate Greyhound Friends. To help with greyhound adoption, GREY2K USA financially contributes to groups on our list here and promotes their efforts to our supporters: http://www.grey2kusa.org/action/adopt.php I realize that isn't cited from an outside source so I understand if it isn't able to be added. Again, I really appreciate your taking the time to help improve the page.

I am the editor that Drmies mentioned above who participated in the Articles for Deletion debate back in 2011. I favored keeping the article because I found a good number of mentions of the group in independent, reliable sources through a Google search.
I have looked at the version of the article just before Drmies trimmed it way back, and I agree with his action. That version relied excessively on what the group has published about itself. A Wikipedia article should summarize what independent reliable sources say about the topic, and the material published by the subject organization should be used only for basic, non-controversial facts like the date of founding and the headquarters location.
Given that you work for the group, you should declare your conflict of interest on your now blank user page, and suggest edits on the article's talk page.
Despite the joking around on my talk page, Drmies is not my boss, and I decide which articles I want to work on. I appreciate suggestions from people I respect, such as Drmies.
Many of the sources I found back in 2011 are behind newspaper archive pay walls, although I have access to a couple of sources. It would be very helpful if you can furnish copies of what you believe to be the best news coverage of your group, its history and accomplishments. Passing mentions in broader articles about greyhound racing are of little value. If these sources are available online, post links on the article's talk page. If not, you can email me copies, being sure to provide the name of the publication and the date. There is an email link on the menu on the left hand side of my user page.

editAs I am not an administrator, I can't see the deleted content. You can't promote your group on your user page. Here is rough suggested wording to start:
- Hello, I am (real name or nickname), and I am (job title) for (group name). I understand and will comply with Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. I am interested in editing articles about greyhounds, and (hobby 1) and (hobby 2)."
