UTRS appeal #61158

edit

is closed. The tenor suggests that you are going to return to battling, so I'm dubious. Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:18, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

(cross posting reply to email. this alt account has TPA. The main account does not.) RE your disappointed in my failure to AGF. . That you do not understand how you came across in this ticket does not argue in favor of you being unblocked. As the account you used for that ticket does have TPA, I think it best you request unblocking there. Please carefully consider your words. I've gone out on a limb for you removing that redirect so you can request unblock via your alt account. I would have, in any case, referred your unblock request to your talk page as unblock discussions should, whenever possible, occur by the light of day and not via hidden proceedings.
It is up to you to be persuasive in your unblock request. Thanks. Deepfriedokra (talk) 22:02, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please do not email me. Discussion whenever possible should be on Wiki and open to the Community's scrutiny. Deepfriedokra (talk) 00:11, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Deepfriedokra I had to tell him same. @Djm-mobile please stop sending unsolicited emails or you risk losing access to email. Star Mississippi 00:34, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks to all and sorry for disturbing people. I seem to have access to this talk page from this device when "on the road". Possibly the less said here the better for the moment ... but I'd claim the encyclopedia is a little worse as for instances of cited content removal and people not knowing how to recover dead links ... etc etc including pov related stuff. Anyways I have haversines to learn and attempting to navigate the fog of coordinate uncertainty, licensing, and categorisation on commons / wikidata plus image uploading etc so plenty to do but some bof it's a long long way round without being able to edit the English wikipedia. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 15:12, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fair use images

Noticed source for fair use image of vic Mitchell online from RM 30 June 2018. There might be another source also. (Djm-mobile 28jul2022 1310 bst) Djm-mobile (talk) 12:11, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Difficulty accessing this page

edit

Just to say it is often very difficult for me to edit this page due to IP blocking bots targeting Djm-leighpark. I can cope with difficulty but it usually means hopping around and using specific devices on roam, namely usually my burner dog with which I have to use non-trivial techniques to get the tilde character to do signing. At present I am dealing with various commons relating stuff around Bray murals. painting, discrepencies, flick2commons GPS stuff etc etc etc - let alone images from my trip to Ireland which are outstanding to upload. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 23:45, 1 August 2022 (UTC) (It may be this issue has been resolved and caches have cleared, I'll know more after a while. Thankyou. Vandalism, mistakes, unexplained removals, and whatever needing checking. correcting or challenging

edit

Often stuff here will get corrected ... eventually ... perhaps

* Special:Diff/1102510467 - Doing a lot of co-ord stuff on commons recently checked out and as far as I can the coords hits with prec=1 on google maps and google streetmap totally verifies. Ah well. Djm-mobile (talk) 13:05, 5 August 2022 (UTC) - Actually it was Special/Diff:1102510939 which has been well spotted and sorted by a new(or is it retuerning) admin, the talk page revert was on the limit of just OK, the NPA voilation on the comment wasn't, and making sure its not latest edit I will AGF was not a camoflage attempt. Anyway sorted by someone so I don't have to. The thing I must remember mysself is to get the right oldid from the Diffs as its very easy get it wrong by one contribution and I'm finding myself doing that more than once. Its interesting to note I scoured for any images of the educational establishment, there appeared to be three girders sculpture that might (or might not) be on or near the campus but not enought for me to get it associated with the school. Djm-mobile (talk) 00:30, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Special:Diff/1101538445 & 1101538617 - The caption "An unfortunate crash for trains and notability." is a real unfortunate choice as it can be arguably taken as the equivalence of a WP:GRAVEDANCE over those on the losing side of the argument being published widely to the community as an example of how to do things. And at first glance that comment would be attributed to the person publishing the article. How many volunteer hours will now go to waste. It takes very little to destroy and satisfaction can be gained in that very easily. A quick redirect is very easy, a good merge takes far, far, far more effort. No-one seemed even to consider or mitigate the effects on Wikidata and categorisation that groundstaff have to do, its so eaasy to be an AfD hero. There's also failure to consider one the the key advantages of a Wiki which is to navigate between articles. Its not necessarily thank I disagree with the result, see Shillelagh branch line, but I do prefer consistency on a line if only a small proportion of stations are non notable. Pelletstown looks safe anyway, but I regret passing through it circa 20 July 202 07:15 and thinking .... where did that come from ... did they name it as it was the spot where gunshots were often made at the train in the 1980's to take out the train windows ... and since regret'd now taking a passing photo of some sort ... and deciding to emergency extract via Charlestown. Not as much regret not as much as missing Baileys and Pim though and not getting a photo of that (lost internet access and insufficient prep). Ah more CIR and not-English by me I expect. Sigh. Djm-mobile (talk) 14:01, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I noticed Special:Diff/1099630487 a while ago, and I noticed Special:Diff/1103733977 on the same article today, and I am minded there may be need for close scrutiny, but have more RL stuff at the moment and anyway I cannot do anything about it whileblocked even should it need to be necessary. Djm-mobile (talk) 05:46, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Special:Diff/1103829962: Why oh why does the Citation Bot insist on "upgrading" isbn-10 to isbn-13. I have gone to the trouble of buying the book and the isbn-10 is the number printed in it and I (and anyone who has access to the book or an image of it) can eyeball verify that and that the edition (and therefore page numbers) are consistent. Instead the bot wants me to go running around somewhere to check these conversions manually which no-one is likely to do. Bots win I guess. Sigh. I suppose the option would be to raise an RFC but it wouldn't be a great use of time. Djm-mobile (talk) 06:59, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Special:Diff/1103848554. Browsing the Transportation delsort alerts mainly for railway stations I cam across this. Hot topic, and I don't have time to look at this fully. However if Delsorts are including Russia then they probably ought to be including Ukraine as well as both seem to have claims over the territory of the Crimea and there seems to be a variety of international support for both claims. Quite frankly I don't know the totality of all this but it seems hot. I'm convinced in all events Justiyaya totally AGF probably omitted Ukraine unintentionally here while I'm minded it should have likely been included for balance but understandably there may be a policy here I haven't looked up and am unaware of so my gut feeling Ukraine outright to be on the delsorts may be incorrect. Would have added it silently if I was unblocked, but I ain't. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 08:20, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

NT4M

edit

Thanks, I appreciate that. If he/she/they still cannot edit their talk, please tell them to UTRS me. Best -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:32, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Deepfriedokra, this was in response to an email I sent which indicated that for me blocking of this talk page on to Djm-mobile on an IP basis can occur quite frequently and might relate to NT4M's case, but that is no historic. I'm following the situation, for the craic, as was involved early on the year to try to NT4M out of trouble and ensure articles did not have POV. Is these an Assamese equivalent for How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?. On a more serious point, @DIVINE you gave good faith but ultimately problematic advice to resume bypassing AfC without awareness of NT4M's current restrictions. If I had of been unblocked I might have spotted it and averted the problem before the admin's got to it. It possible you've become an advocate for NT4M, possibly for role in causing causing the fall (and that is honourable to try to fix things for someone who may have been injured as a result of one's actions) and for that reason its probably best practice you avoid curating and moving NT4M's articles to new space for a (long?) while to avoid neutrality concerns as there are others who can do tha. Should you ever get to applying for an RFA that action, and more importantly how you have learned from it, will be scrutinised. Almost anyone who's reading this, excepting perhaps one person in particular, realise that all NT4M had to do was not make an entry on their talk page for about 7 days and ideally not make an unblock request and they'd have free to carry one without anyone worrying anyone, they more the've written and the more they request an unblock then the harder it will be for them and the more they'll attract some smelly socks. @Justiyaya NT4M is currently doing useful small stub/start settlement articles which really don't need AfC. However if the AfC requirement is fully removed and then NN4T switches to BIO articles direct to mainspace there is a risk problems might then arise, perhaps also if the autopatrolled user right is clamed to bypass NPP. Despite the fact I introduced (and re-introduced) quite a number of articles to mainspace I never requested autopatrolled so there was an open opportunity for second pair of eyes NPP scrutiny. I would suggest you put this idea to NT4M. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 19:02, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think I've given "good faith but ultimately problematic advice" on this too... see User talk:Justiyaya#Regarding Wikiproject villages and an explanation was given here. I don't know enough about the context on the original ban and subsequent unblock to judge if the editing restriction is still necessary. Pinging @NeverTry4Me Justiyaya 01:32, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Justiyaya Thanks. Likely NT4M emailed me (possibly in response to that ping, and a very nice and considered email it was indeed (email was because not possible for them to access my talk page). While I understand they may wish to return to to doing some perhaps very useful non-settlement articles my concerns about them attempting to bypassing scrutiny by use of autopatrolled user right as they wish to continue to go via AfC. I would be concerned they might get frustrated from the timescales that can occur on that for more complex bio articles which can be 4+ months rather than the rather more rapid turnaround they have been getting recently for the settlement articles, albeit the latter are relatively simple to triage off the AfC submitted queue. Djm-mobile (talk) 05:31, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeah is an issue, although the backlog is going down slowly and I'm sure they could ping someone for a review... Don't think I can do much anyways, don't really get what you are referring to regarding the AP userright... Justiyaya 05:55, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Justiyaya: Autopatrolled enables articles to be submitted to mainspace bypassing New Page Patrol (NPP). It can be requested after about 500 edits or something. Might be used by UPE puppets who try dash to 500 uncontroversial minor edits to try to gain the right to submit UPE articles avoiding AfC and NPP scrutiny. I am have that completely wrong. I am totally NOT saying NT4M falls into that UPE/sock category, I would almost bet my (select any item of clothing you like) he they do not. We are all fully aware he is making valuable contributions in a particular area and I think everyone is trying to encourage that. Djm-mobile (talk) 08:33, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
NT4M is currently under an editing restriction which disallows creation directly into the mainspace, before gaining AP they should probably appeal that first is what I think. I don't think I can do much to help anyways so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Justiyaya 08:51, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
From my understanding in their email NT4M is happy to continue submitting via AfC and is not intending to request that to be lifted. I'm uncertain that people should be ping'ing to jump the AFc queue as that would seem a bad practice to encourage though there might be a case for an exception for NT4M due to their specific restrictions. Its also in my opinion bad practice if a single person deals with all the AfC's from one person and I can't recall ever seeing that. Djm-mobile (talk) 09:31, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Commons is more dangerous than English Wikipedia!

edit

Unblock request? I am still recovering from an incident in Waterlooville/Cowplain Enclosure where I was attempting to photograph the source of the Hermitage Stream yesterday where I believe a professional dog walker objected to me photographing her client's dog M****. She video'd me on her phone camera for about 10 minutes threatening to sue me if I published online to facebook and report me to Havant Borough Council and Winchester Borough Council and some other council. M**** came up to me and pressed its teeth again my hand and leaving its slobbering saliva on my finger! Just after I was attempting to image a tadpole/minnow isolated in pool by the bridge on a Hermitage stream tributary in what I believe was the same dog Marty had bounded into the pool causing much splashing wagging of tail. I got my camera out, ready to ask M**** if he was willing to appear on Wikipedia Commons, unfortunately only the ixus275, but M**** replied with body language he was about to threaten to shake his wet coat all over me and my camera. I did manage to achieve a grand image of M****'s tail as it bounded off on a path in the distance, with what apparently was a supervisor appearing and choosing not to come my way. I do believe we met later, M**** + 5 dogs & professional walker. I have discovered while I thought I had an image of M**** the camera did not happen to record it, and I did promise the walker I would not publish her M**** on the internet. However as she claimed M**** was under her supervision M**** was not the dog at the pool so I think I am not bound by such a thing. Anyway I am somewhat minded commons is a somewhat risky thing and wonder if that is a valid reason for an unblock? If I said I was planning to do smoking on Friday because of this it would likely be seen as a threat, so I won't. WP:CIR .... Djm-mobile (talk) 21:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Waterlooville again! Yesterday I was in deep trouble with the missus for running around with a 60D & macro lens and no dog (aka mobile/cell phone) after a common white butterfly that wouldn't land while she needed me to come back into a doctor's surgery to assist a low mobility relative onto a table for exam as the doctor wouldn't help and they surgery was not seemingly not suitably equipped with mobility assistance equipment and on top of that she is no longer as strong as she used to be and could easily have injured herself. In pre-COVID times I'd simply have waited in the waiting room. I wasvery lucky she didn't smash the 60D but actually its her camera. In fact the only near current camera I own is a 2nd hand Coolpix s6200 that I bought for £42 as a backup for the sx240 on my trip to Ireland but had to fail just before I went as it wouldn't charge through the USB and I'd had needed to get an external battery. This commons photo lark is dangerous! Djm-mobile (talk) 06:26, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Unblock request 11 August 2022

Request reason:

The quick reason is the situation is has changed somewhat. I am confident I am able to contain myself even after being WP:SEALIONed by a sockpuppet where my good faith attempt to contain private information on a living person was not supported by the community. And also while being in the middle of a funeral event whilst trying to defend a seemingly problematic AfC. The fact a sock was heavily involved is really now not improving my mental health. In fact I was trying to cope with 3 socks at the time I was blocked. I'm adding images on commons on say Rosslare Harbour and realising associated English Wikipedia articles are stalled. The elephant in the room will be the (potential) MS bio article. To be totally clear I am very minded to raise a DRV on the conduction of the last AfD on that when I am able, and please be aware it is the conduct and process of that which is of more concern to me that the result. In practice if unblocked I would likely request a refund to draft of the MS article which would have to be via REFUND if I recall the closer's page correctly and I suspect REFUND would refuse to userfy/draftify without a DRV. To be clear I have absolutely no real life bandwidth to initiated a DRV on MS, even for userfication only, in the next month, probably quite a lot longer. There is at least one DRV I would like to raise but that has been outstanding for over a year. The last time I requested an unblock to add a delsort I said it was at risk and indeed I got blocked indef soon after. This time I'm going to keep my nose ultra clean, consequences would be there are multiples who would do me very quick. I'm at least not at the moment in the middle of a traumatic funeral case. Hoping for an unblock. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 10:05, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

None of this is relevant; you are blocked as an "alt account (of) an indefinitely blocked user" but don't mention this in your unblock request. Yamla (talk) 11:32, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Yamla: I apologise for not mentioning this is an alt account, forgot it is not immediately obvious to many. It is the only page that bigdelboy/djm-mobile/djm-leighpark have access to and the alt account is mentioned on the user page. More to the point there is another account Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeagathat I use for the Irish Wikipedia and communication in Irish. Deirge does not edit the English Wikipedia and has zero contributions there buts does edit Vicipéid, Commons, wikidata, meta etc. I have noticed meta:User:Dm-mobile is blank which it shoudn't have been. Generally Deirge & Djm-leighpark don't conflict apart from on commons where I have try to get boundaries defined. Thankyou. Djm-mobile (talk) 16:04, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
