Hi. The inclusion of ahnentafeln has been extensively discussed at Template talk:Ahnentafel. I kindly suggest not adding them unless you can demonstrate that reliable sources specializing in the subject (e.g. published biographies) contain them. Surtsicna (talk) 12:10, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ancestry

edit

Please don't add large ancestry tables to articles. Some people think these sections should be removed and some think they should be expanded. Community consensus has thus resolved somewhere in the middle: they should be restricted to the first 4 generations only. Thanks. Celia Homeford (talk) 08:17, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Celia, So I think they look pretty good that very great help to study royal genealogies, I remember that in past years late 2010-s around 2017-2019 than I began actively to study royal medieval genealogies there were common 5 generations and 4 generations of ancestors, I studied very good genealogy of royal medieval European kings, but okay. And in other wiki's there are no such consensus in Russian 5 generations and in French even 6. Dmitry Azikov (talk) 09:35, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, but what is disruptive in these ancestors of king Henry I of England with a source? Dmitry Azikov (talk) 05:15, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I requested that you discuss the addition on the talk page; just because material is sourced does not mean it should be included. Charts take up considerable space in articles, so it would be nice to discuss whether it makes what is already a featured article better. Remsense 05:17, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, Okay, but there was no such strict rules about royal ancestry in past years and rules are no such sctrict in others wikis like french, spanish and russian, and rules it seems that Wikipedia became not best place to add and look royal ancestries like other genealogical websources like geni.com, my.heritage and geneall even because in English wiki there shouldn't be more than 4 generations in charts of ancestry up to great-grandparents lncluding a person of article him/herself... I also suggested a new variant of his ancestry with more references such authority like Burke's peerage in talk page. And what do you think is a book (Frederick Lewis Weis, Walter Lee Sheppard, William Ryland Beall, Kaleen E. Beall, Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists who Came to America Before 1700) a good source for royal ancestry? https://books.google.ru/books?id=3F9nG8aFJ7MC&vq=William+the+conqueror&hl=ru&source=gbs_navlinks_s Dmitry Azikov (talk) 05:24, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
