Cleanup tag on Oakland Athletics roster

Hey, just wondering why the tag was put; I see your reasons but a) it's a subpage displayed on Oakland Athletics which is hosed on a separate page, and b) none of the other 29 MLB teams have a cleanup tag on their roster. Wikipedia:WikiProject Eurovision

Hello, mate, I see that you are interested in Eurovision. Would you like to be involved in connecting with more eurovision wikipedians to do up the eurovision pages in a more coherent manner? I have come across the Eurovision wikiproject page, which seems to have been dormant for over two years. It may be an idea to have a look there and see how we could improve the eurovision coverage. Semicolons!

Hi. I see you've been putting in a heck of a lot of work into the UK constituency articles (adding ward lists etc.). Just one thing: learn how to use semicolons! For instance:

The electoral wards used in the formation of this modified seat are; (then followed by a list)

That line should end with a colon (:) rather than a semicolon (;), because it's being followed by a list. Semicolons should be used in the middle of sentences to indicate a break; what's written (in that sentence) on either side of the semicolon should make sense if it were a sentence on its own. (If that sounds a bit complicated, I'd recommend not using them at all!)

It may seem pedantic, but I didn't want to go through all 600+ constituency articles changing them all myself!

Incidentally, I'm not actually convinced that the ward lists are absolutely necessary, but you've obviously been putting a lot of effort into it. A geographical description of which places are in a given constituency might be more helpful, as ward names don't always mean very much. Also, I found a few errors (see Talk:Twickenham (UK Parliament constituency) for instance). --RFBailey 20:30, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Boundary Commission reviews

Congratulations on creating new pages for the Boundary Commissions ongoing review of Parliamentary Constituency's, but remember they are only recommended by the Boundary Commission and not created by them.

The BC recommends the new seats to the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs (currently Lord Falconer), who has to agree them and then they go through the Parliamentary Process before being created.

Yeah, anything along those lines is good, for example I have altered Richmond's page to say the Boundary Commission for England has recommended minor changes.... Its just to make it clear that the commission only suggests the changes not implements them. --TFoxton 23:11, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

West Lancashire/Preston local elections

Thanks for creating the West Lancashire Council election 2006 election page, I have made a couple of minor changes and will help get the results on there after the election.

I really like all the information on the wards that you have put on the Preston City Council elections page, perhaps after the 2006 election results are on there you could move the 2003 results onto their own page, linked from the main page, while just keeping the most recent results on the main page. I have also just realised that back in November I created a Preston local elections page which should probably get merged with the page you created.

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Saying AOL collateral damage is pretty unhelpful, there are many AOL IPs, it could be the result of an autoblock from one of many 100s or 1000s occuring recently... --pgk^(talk) 08:23, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello! Don't take what I write as a decision, just the questions that any researcher would want to have answered when they read an article - i.e. "What is notable about this band?" If there is noting notable then the article isn't up to standard; if there is evidence then it should be included in order to make the article useful. Wentworth and Dearne (UK Parliament constituency)

From the page history, it looks as though we have never had an article on this constituency, only the redirect to Wentworth (UK Parliament constituency). The new constituency looks substantially the same as the old one, so I'd be in favour of keeping the status quo - in the same manner to Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough (UK Parliament constituency). Blocks

Ah! AOL sometimes works by assigning a new IP address every time you change page. However, if you go back to a page you've been on, you get that IP address back.

So, if someone from AOL has vandalised that page, then you get hit with the block. Also, because the IP addresses are recycled, you also get hit with the block for each page that IP has been tagged to by AOL.

That's why you get a block on one page, no block on the next, a block on another page... until you start tearing your hair out! (My IP is fixed, thank goodness!).

So, if you get hit by a block on a page, quickly copy-and-paste the text you see. The IP address is only useful to us if the IP address itself was the thing blocked. If the message is something like "Blocked by Redvers; the reason for the block was "Recently used by User:Foo" or the like, then we need to know the User:Foo bit. The autoblock can then be lifted at source (although User:Foo can be left blocked).

Because of privacy reasons, we're not allowed to see the IP addresses of logged-in users, so we can't jump right in and unblock that way. Autoblocks are a technical nightmare!

Solidarity

Hello there. Just noticed you deleted some of the text I inserted yesterday in the Solidarity (Scotland) article. I have since reinserted and added references where appropriate.

Just a question though. Why the need to describe my words as "weasel"? I find this a bit unnecessary and slightly offensive. You seem to indicate that I would somehow trying to prejudice the impartiality of the article. In no way was I doing so, and perhaps if you had taken the time and courtesy to discuss this and suggest that perhaps references are necessary we could have sorted it out without you trying to implicate me in trying to inject some form of bias into wikipedia, which I most certainly was not.

Do you even have any knowledge of the events surrounding the Solidarity/SSP issue? Again, if you don't then perhaps you shouldn't just jump in with two feet and undo someone elses work here.

Spectre Party Again

Thanks for your input. I hope you don't mind but I would like a little clarification on your comments.

You stated that I'd probably violated rules on Copyright and POV.

Re: Copyright.

I'm running the Spectre Party website and as such have clearance to republish some of the information on the site. I'm happy to get written statement saying as such if Wiki requires it. I'm not a member of the party, nor am I ever going to run as a candidate. I simply searched google to see what was already being said and came across the Wiki article on them.

I thought it would be appropriate to include their aims and objectives at the current time as a matter of Historical record for Wiki, after all parties and politicians have been known to change their line. Having put up a fair amount of the information on the spectre site (I didn't write one word of it though) I am familiar with their objectives and don't feel that the one line currently in their Wiki article is an accurate reflection of who they really are, ie I think it actually sounds a little biased.

Re: POV

I've never dared contribute to any Wikipedia before for fear of offending someone or breaking any rules. I've had a look at the pages you suggested and a lot of the others and can't see what rule I've broken. Could you clarify what you think I've done wrong.

As a non member of the party but being in a privileged position with regards to information about the party I thought I should contribute to the Wiki article. Was this wrong in your opinion?

UK election changes

No problem. When are the new boundaries expected to be placed before Parliament, assuming that hasn't already happened? Note that I also did some work on Chippenham (UK Parliament constituency), including removing the infobox, as the template automatically linked to current maps instead of future ones. Is there a simple way to produce the following sort of table?

Column 1: Constituency Name
Column 2: Winning Party at Last Election
Columns 3 - 8 : Party Votes (underneath a title for the election in question)
Column 9: Winning Party at Current Election
Column 10: Status (i.e gain or hold)
