Wikidata have a history of sockpuppet users creating items about the subject of this article. The picture used in the latest WD entry was uploaded by one of the users contributing to this draft (Wikilover240)
It's likely that the accounts involved with this draft are sockpuppets as well Trade (talk) 02:12, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Trade can you link to the Wikidata entry that this image was used in? It has since been deleted and I cannot find it. This is so I can get enough evidence to justify running a CheckUser check. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 09:19, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- The (now deleted) WD entry in question is Pranav Arora (Q113546742)
- If you read the related WD RfCU, BRPever suggests that the creator of the latest Pranav Arora WD entry are likely related to the Sunergy Solar Panel Installation Port St. Lucie, FL CU case
- As you might have noticed many of the user names are names of real-life companies and were also involved in making promotional items for said companies. --Trade (talk) 14:19, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ran a check. Enwiki CheckUser data shows that the following accounts are Confirmed to each other:

IP block exemption expired
Hello Dreamy Jazz. About a year ago you added the following exemption for me which seems to have expired:
11:30, 16 October 2021 Dreamy Jazz talk contribs changed group membership for Sejtam from (none) to IP block exempt (temporary, until 11:30, 16 April 2022) (Ticket#2021101610001731)
There is no change to my situation. I still own the full IPv6 blocks 2001:470:36:454::/64 and 2001:470:ef42::/48. which are routed through Hurricane Electric's IPv6 tunnel broker (and not as 'assumed' by Wikipedia (or whoever enforced that limit) in a dynamically assigned range. Can you re-establich the block exemption or point me to a better way to have those IP address blocks allowed? Thanks ˜˜˜˜ Sejtam (talk) 15:37, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Sejtam the block that is preventing you editing applies to the /33 which likely means that there are IPv6 addresses in the same /33 that are being used for proxy editing. I have granted the right to bypass IP blocks to you again for a year to be used for editing through these IPs. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 16:23, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

I created an article that was recently deleted. I want to recover that content, so I can use it, to format my article, when I open up an AFC. Last IP found this one (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/31.22.203.126). Don't know why i still bother, it's obvious: 1 - no range block will ever be enforced; 2 - this guy has a neverending array of IP addresses.

SPI/AfD
Hi DreamyJazz! I wanted to ask a question about this SPI. The master account on this SPI opened an AfD here. Both account on the SPI made Delete votes in the AfD, and it's really the only edits both accounts made. In this case, should we let the AfD play out? or is it basically moot because of them being connected? I'm unsure of how to approach it, so I wanted to ask for some guidance. I appreciate the help! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 15:06, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there Spf121188. The accounts being blocked for socking shouldn't affect the AfD as there was no block evasion, and as such it's best to let the AfD play out. Of course, if the consensus is clearly in favour of a speedy keep then there is nothing that should stop closing the AfD. The one thing to bear in mind is that the filer of the AfD's comments are not invalidated by them using sockpuppets, but instead it should be seen as one person supporting deletion. I've made this clear by striking the bolded vote of the sockpuppet. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 17:16, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- Ah! Understood, makes sense. Thanks again for the help! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 17:20, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

more socks
me and Jim Michael, have a high suspicion that 146.200.180.226 (talk · contribs) & Golden Matrix (talk · contribs) is a sock of Niko the Biko or CountingStars500
146.200.180.226 have a similar writing style to the Niko the Biko socks, and brought up similar Arguments for the inclusion of Marsha Hunt.
Golden Matrix has a similar writing style and does Canadian politics edits, just like all Counting Stars 500 socks, not to mention that he supports the inclusion of Jack Layton, though golden Matrix opposes the inclusion of Gilbert Gottfried, which was a apparent obsession with Counting Stars 500.
It doesn't hurt to use check user on both of them to see if they're related to them. 4me689 (talk) 01:12, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- @4me689, I cannot link IP addresses to accounts as this would be a violation of the privacy policy and checkuser policy, so No comment with respect to IP address(es).
- With respect to only the account, Golden Matrix looks to be Unrelated to Niko the Biko, but may be a sock of CountingStars500. I suggest filing a SPI for CountingStars500 with this user as a suspected sockpuppet with specific diffs as I'm not as familiar with that case. hi @Dreamy Jazz: you know how I can make this--> 4me689 both the default talk signature and my user page. (talk) 23:18, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there 4me689. The span tag on your userpage has a few issues that are leading to this. You should use something like:
{{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="color:#CE5DAE">''User:4me689''</span>}}
- The differences are:
- The opening span tag on your userpage is
</span color=...>
which is incorrect - The "color" attribute is as far as I am aware is only supported on font tags which are not supported in HTML5. Changing this to the style attribute fixes this.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello Dreamy Jazz,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
- Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.

Hi, can you please look into this [28] as you indef the previous sock?- Satrar (talk) 13:09, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
A user removed [29] sourced content from the infobox of the Noon chai page mentioning India. This is something (now blocked) sock accounts of user Nangparbat (a serial Troll with a long history of brigading and disrupting edits) did [30] [31] in the past as well. All I'm asking is you restore the page to Kautilya3's edit, which was the last un-vandalised edit. If you don't, there's a clear bias here and you're allowing pov pushing. Aryaryry (talk) 15:26, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

You said "CU blocked both indef"[32] but you forgot to indef this person's sock (Muruganadimai) which was blocked for 1 week at the time for edit warring. It needs indef block too.
It seems that he is evading his block as IP now and has filed a frivolous SPI against me (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Extorc) only because I along with the another user reverted him. I was close to tagging it as G5 but thought of letting you know instead. >>> Extorc.talk 16:59, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Extorc, thanks for noticing that. I think what happened here is that when blocking that sock I did not notice the block length was not indefinite in a tool I use. Have now fixed that. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 09:17, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Template:Casenav
Hello Dreamy Jazz, I noticed that you recently modified the ArbCom case navigation template so that it would exclude the workshop link in cases where it is not used. Unfortunately, I have found that the workshop link in *every* former ArbCom case no longer appears. I was wondering if this was a change that had previously been discussed, and if a better alternative would be to create fully protected placeholder pages for cases without workshops. Kurtis (talk) 10:08, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kurtis problem fixed. Thanks for reporting. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 13:20, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Oh, the bleating when discovered
It's enough to make one doubt one's own reflection in the mirror. I'm glad you checked with another CU over the Ojukwu ones, two determined heads are always better than one. The one the check revealed is one I have had arbitrary antennae based concerns about for a long time.
I do wish Celestina007 had not lost the plot. Her work against this type of thing was useful. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:52, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yup, it is a shame when a good sock hunter leaves the project. While I directly discussed with one CU, it was in the CU IRC channel so others will have seen this too (though didn't comment). Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 20:20, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Such discussions and block decisions are not light matters. The G one has been on my radar for a long time. It's interesting that they were swept up by the CU process. Until then, while not clean, they were teflon coated. As an ordinary editor I could not unravel the things that caused me to be suspicious. If ou look imm their TP archive you will see that they and I, and yes C007, have a long history 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 20:25, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

By creating a new account you are evading a block, which makes your chances of successful appeal less likely. If you do not have access to your original account you can appeal using this account. I noticed {{SPI case status|hold}} ([39]) and {{SPI case status|moreinfo}} ([40]) also mention patrolling administrators setting the template, while WP:SPI/P does not include those two statuses in 'allowed' ones. Orphaned non-free image File:Al Rescate.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Al Rescate.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:01, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
The file File:Portal-Military of India spew error.PNG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unused, unlinked Wikipedia screenshot. No other obvious use.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 02:43, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Contentious topics procedure adopted
You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to updates on the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions review process.
The Arbitration Committee has concluded the 2021-22 review of the contentious topics system (formerly known as discretionary sanctions), and its final decision is viewable at the revision process page. As part of the review process, the Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:
The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.
The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.
This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.

- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
- The word "Reply" is very short in some languages, such as Arabic ("ردّ"). This makes the Discussion tools button on talk pages difficult to use. An arrow icon will be added to those languages. This will only be visible to editors who have the Beta Feature turned on. [67] [68]
Future changes
- Edits can be automatically "tagged" by the system software or the Edit filter configuration system. Those tags link to a help page about the tags. Soon they will also link to Recent Changes to let you see other edits tagged this way. This was a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [69]
- The Trust & Safety tools team have shared new plans for building the Private Incident Reporting System. The system will make it easier for editors to ask for help if they are harassed or abused.
- Realtime Preview for Wikitext is coming out of beta as an enabled feature for every user of the 2010 Wikitext editor in the week of January 9, 2023. It will be available to use via the toolbar in the 2010 Wikitext editor. The feature was the 4th most popular wish of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.
Events
- You can now register for the Wikimedia Hackathon 2023, taking place on May 19–21 in Athens, Greece. You can also apply for a scholarship until January 14th.

CU
Hi I see you blocked [70], I believe they've returned as [71], the first edit they made is of the obscure article the master created [72]. Whats similar is both accounts are using google australia to reference as can be seen here in the edit summary [73] as well as the draft article sourcing [74]. Magherbin (talk) 19:50, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- I'll look at this soon. I suggest reporting at WP:SPI in the meanwhile. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 02:01, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ok just opened [75]. Magherbin (talk) 19:17, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Did this article ever exist?
Hello, I am trying to determine if the article Finger Furniture ever existed, and if it ever did, what the contents may have been. It is currently linked to by at least one other existing article, PlazAmericas, and I believe it was linked to in the past by other articles (all of which is circumstantial evidence that this was a real article long ago)
Thanks for your time. (You were the first random person listed on Category:Wikipedia_administrators_willing_to_provide_copies_of_deleted_articles who had recently replied on their talk page.) Mike Richardson (talk) 09:01, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Mike Richardson, hi there. I can't see any deleted (or oversighted) revisions on that page using my tools, so there has almost certainly never been a page at that title before. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 09:50, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Stop spreading propaganda a one political group Firdos ashraf (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Just to let you know that I deleted Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Firdos ashraf filed by CSKL, and that I've blocked both editors for violating 3RR at 2023 Tripura Legislative Assembly election. I've had no prior dealings with either editor; nor do I know why CSKL came to your Talk page in the first instance. Happy New Year! --Bbb23 (talk) 14:20, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for dealing with it. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:51, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Fighting a bot for ArbCom member updates
Sorry you had to fight a bit when updating things for the new AC crop. FWIW, because Arb isn't a group, the bot parses the text of Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Members; you got reverted 'cause it hadn't been updated yet. I know it's in AC/C/P, but if AC/M gets done first, the bot should be all right. I'll take a look at some point in the next 363 days on making it a bit smarter about predicting, but anyway, once a year! ~ Amory (u • t • c) 16:18, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, I presumed that it was the cause. I'll update AC/C/P so clerks in future years can be more aware of it :). Happy editing and holidays, Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:20, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Dreamy Jazz,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.
