Ottawa Mayors

edit

I did find some useful information on Ottawa mayors in the Chain of Office book mentioned in the article. Also, sometimes, one piece of information leads to another. --Big_Iron 09:23, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your VandalProof Application

edit

Dear Editor at Large,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. - Glen 23:35, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

edit

It seems from the looks of things that you are as interested in improving the quality of ballet-related articles on here as I am!! I noticed that you are working on an article on Nikolai Legat - if you like, I have some great photos of him and the ballets he revived, and information, etc. that you might like to use for your article - let me know! I can email them or point you in the right direction. If you need any asistance or have questions, please dont hesitate to ask, and if you have any info, please add it to any of the articles Ive created.....

Wikipedia in Quenya

edit
Hallo, Editor at Large!
There is a test Wikipedia in Quenya started at the Incubator: here. I bet you would like to participate. :)
Hope to see you there, --Djordje D. Bozovic 12:34, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm very glad that you're going to help. Unfortunately, it's still a test Wikipedia in Incubator, but if we manage to get as many supporting votes as we can in Meta, and to write as many articles in Quenya as our fingers allow us, we may end up with a real Wikipedia. :) --Djordje D. Bozovic 21:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Willing to do a copyedit pass on Ahmose I?

edit
Kudos for creating the Ancient Egypt userbox! Another Wikipedian and I have been working on the Ahmose I article of late, hoping to eventually bring it up to snuff prior to submitting it as a Featured Article candidate. What it really needs now is a good copyedit pass. Given your moniker, and interest in things Ancient Egyptian, I though I would ask you.

Cheers! Captmondo 20:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your look over Ahmose I. It has been needed for some time. I am confused on one technical thing-- is your sandbox a commentary alone, such that I should edit Ahmose I itself, or make my edits to your sandbox and then move the finished text? Thanatosimii 02:18, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
After a long delay, I've finished adressing the problems you brought up on your copyedit of Ahmose I. I'll alert a few more people to it one more time, but after a few more days now, I'll put the edited text in the article and you can have your sandbox back.
Thanks again for your help,
Thanatosimii 21:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

New userboxes

edit

Per the terms of the German userbox solution new userboxes should not be created in template space. Please read up on the current practices. That page has instructions on how to properly create userfied userboxes. --Cyde Weys 20:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Esperanza!

edit

Welcome, Editor at Large, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Funny vandalism

That diff that you linked to of how the IP had changed your welcome message cracked me up; it's always a nice change when vandalism is more amusing then plain mean. Thanks for the laugh. :) -- Natalya 01:10, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

September Esperanza Newsletter

edit
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Sources on List of photographic composition techniques?

edit

Does List of photographic composition techniques need sources? someone keeps adding a sources tag, but there's hardly any information there; the only info is "Photographic composition techniques are used to set up the elements of a picture." This is just common sense. I think references on this list would be a little redundant. Sorry for using helpme, I don't have much time and I'm probably going to be gone for a week... — Editor at Large ( talk) 15:29, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

While it would be a little overzealous to insist that every particular minutiae should have sources, this article as a whole does need them. One of the main reasons in this case is most readers or editors passing by can't even confirm that what is there exists. They can assume that you are an honest, established editor—though don't whether you are indeed knowledgeable in the subject—but if someone else comes along and adds another item to the list, there is no way to determine whether it might be a hoax. Also, I recommend this list be moved/merged into an article on Photographic composition in general, with a more complete description of it and other encyclopedic elements. —Centrxtalk • 15:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know of no way to transfer the individual edit history, unless one has special uber-admin powers, and/or is Jimbo. I do agree that the talk ought to be transferred. I'll get right on doing that. Thanatosimii 20:29, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

edit

I'm new-ish to Wikipedia. I mainly edit articles of subjects in which I am interested. My interests are myriad, though, and so are my edits. I have been editing for years, but never with any real consistency. After facing some issues with some other editors, I realized that I may want to emphasize my credibility. I really like your user page and wanted to see if you would be willing to help me construct one of my own. I am educated in many areas, but am greatly lacking in my ability to make pretty pages on wikipedia. Thanks! Danielleb32 (talk) 15:41, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
