Deletion review for Furtherfield
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Furtherfield. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedy-deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Frock (talk) 04:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Furtherfield page deleted - why???
thanks for your reply, & for putting the page onto my userspace. sorry if i seem a bit thick, but i am not sure why my rewrite hasn't addressed the reasons for its original deletion. i made a concerted effort to add quite a lot of references, both print and online. the reasons for deletion are actually pretty weak - it is based on jimmi hugh saying that in 20 pages of google results he couldn't find anything that was "non-trivial" - since when is jimmi hugh the defining authority on what is or is not trivial? he also said that the article reads like a "fan blurb" - i can't remember the original article exactly but it was very much factual, with little of my own opinion in it, & the replacement article is also factual and backed up with many references to articles and books written by respected artists and arts writers. i don't know about the "one serious reference" that he says came up blank; i checked every one of the references that i put into the replacement article yesterday, and included access dates for them. so - i would really appreciate it if you could advise me as to what is still inadequate in the article. thanks ... Frock (talk) 03:25, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
um - can you please enlighten me as to why you have deleted the new Furtherfield page? i spent a lot of time creating this, with plenty of references in books, journals and online. you did not even mark it for consideration for deletion, but deleted it immediately as if it was spam or somehow inappropriate - i really don't understand this!!! Frock (talk) 20:07, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
thanks for your reply : ) can you please move the content to my user page & i will work on it so that it can be reinstated in an improved form. thanks. Frock (talk) 04:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
i'm confused as to why you've deleted the Furtherfield page; as the original creator of that page, i didn't get any notification that it was up for review. as it was, the entire process took a mere 5 days, during which time i was on holiday & in transit & wouldn't have had the opportunity to respond had i known about it. this seems pretty unreasonable. Furtherfield is in fact a very important arts organisation that has been in existence since 1996 & initiated a lot of signficant arts projects, both in the UK where it is based and globally.
forgive me for being a relatively inexperienced wikipedian, i cannot understand where or how to initiate a review of this deletion. please help me do this - or should i just recreate the page? i really hope it's archived somewhere as i put quite a bit of work into writing that article.
Thanks

Catholic Office for Emergency Relief and Refugees
hi there. i was hoping if you could explain why you closed the coerr afd as a keep when no reliable secondary sources have been provided. you gave no explaination of your choice to keep the article when you closed it. my delete vote was the only vote supported by wikipedia policy. without reliable secondary sources i can see no good reason as to why this article should exist. thanks xxx Jessi1989 (talk) 17:03, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- hi again. wp:deadline is an essay; "a page containing the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors". Not only that but it gives two views, one supporting your reasoning and one opposing it. wp:v and wp:nor are both wikipedia policies, requiring every article to have reliable, secondary sources. the coerr article has none yet, it should be moved to someone's userspace, or removed entirely, until such sources are found. i feel that i should nominate it for afd again unless you can provide policy supporting it. sorry... xxx Jessi1989 (talk) 16:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- as far as i understand wp:consensus, it refers to consensus based on discussion and constructive arguments. you seem to have treated the afd more like a vote, which it shouldn't be. i agree that there were far more keep voters, but not one of them made reference to policy. no consensus regarding whether or not this article should exist based on wikipedia policy was ever reached. wp:consensus says "In the few cases where polls are used, understand that they are actually structured discussions, not votes. Your opinion has much more weight when you provide a rationale during a poll, not just a simple vote. Your goal should be to convince others of your views (and give them a chance to convince you)." i think i will take this to drv to see how other people feel that these policies should be interpreted. hope that's ok with you Jessi1989 (talk) 00:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Jamal Zraika notability
Hi There,
Just wondering about the notability of Jamal Zraika? I did tone it down because I didn't want it to sound like a advertising spam profile. But his notability is that in fact he is the premiere Arabic percussionist in Australia for the last 28 years and is well connected to notable belly dancers in Australia.
He is also friends with Hossam Ramzy who has described him as one of the great Arabic tablah players in the world.
If that wasn't enough he has also toured with Fairuz, a singer legend in Lebanon, and Fares Karam who is like a modern day Elvis in Lebanon. These famous artist would not have used Jamal if he wasn't any good.
I can edit the page to reflect all that to show notability. I just didn't want to overdo it.

Hello! I just wanted to pass along my thanks for your support in my RfA from earlier this week. I hope I did not disappoint you. I am going on Wikibreak and I will let you know when or if I am back on the site -- I am trying to take time away to clear my thoughts and refocus on this and other priorities. Be well. Request move of John Dempsey (politician)
Requesting move of John Dempsey (politician) to John N. Dempsey (which is now a redirect) for two reasons:
- John N. Dempsey, former governor of Connecticut, is often known as John N. Dempsey. See, e.g., his obituary in the New York Times of 17 July 1989, which begins: "Former Gov. John N. Dempsey, a liberal Democrat who helped foster Connecticut's reputation in the 1960's ...".
- John N. Dempsey is not the only notable politician named John Dempsey, nay he is not the only former governor of a U.S. state named John Dempsey. John J. Dempsey was governor of New Mexico from 1943 to 1947.
I believe that the move would be harmless, and salutary, as it pro-actively avoid confusion. I would be happy to update the various links after the move. I am not certain as to what to do with the page "John Dempsey (politician)", after the move, but I suggest deletion, or at worst making it a disambiguation page, even though there are only two of them with articles at present. Thanks for your consideration. --Bejnar (talk) 18:02, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Appreciate the good word. I sometimes feel a frustration when sometimes an editor will opine "delete" on something so easily fixable per WP:ATD and WP:AFD. So, when someone acknowledges that I done good, it makes me feel like I am making a contibution that matters. Thank you much. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:02, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I did a bit of research inorder to expand the article. It is now out of principle filming and actually had a sneek-peek preview screening December 12, 2008 before being sent back to post production. Perhaps you might care to nudge your weak delete to a weak keep? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:21, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- That was very gracious of you. If deleted, I fully expect it to return in short order. If kept, I expect it to be well expanded as more information becomes available. Thank you, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:51, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- No problem inre the "rant". The hardest thing to do sometimes is be proactive in an AfD instead of reactive. I had opined a "keep" and pointed the way... only to have others ignore "the way" and opine delete without eveb considering the possibilities for improvements. So... I suppose my improving things is a result of my disappointment in those who give a knee-jerk response for delete rather than consider what WP:ATD is all about... as if they never even heard of WP:BEFORE. It is almost as if some see Wiki as an exclusive Britanica with limited paper stock rather than a world-wide and unlimited database that can be more inclusive. Sigh. Thanks for the good wishes and the appreciations. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:43, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
