Sockpuppet investigation

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Faizan, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 09:29, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and may we wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2015 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. We have a few important announcements concerning the future of the WikiCup.

 • We would like to announce that Josh (J Milburn) and Ed (The ed17), who have been WikiCup judges since 2009 and 2010 respectively, are stepping down. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but the main one is time. Both Josh and Ed have found that, over the previous year, they have been unable to devote the time necessary to the WikiCup, and it is not likely that they will be able to do this in the near future. Furthermore, new people at the helm can only help to invigorate the WikiCup and keep it dynamic. Josh and Ed will still be around, and will likely be participating in the Cup this following year as competitors, which is where both started out.
 • In a similar vein, we hope you will all join us in welcoming Jason (Sturmvogel 66) and Christine (Figureskatingfan), who are joining Brian (Miyagawa) to form the 2015 WikiCup judging team. Jason is a WikiCup veteran, having won in 2010 and finishing in fifth this year. Christine has participated in two WikiCups, reaching the semi-finals in both, and is responsible for the GA Cup, which she now co-runs.
 • The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. While it may be impossible to please everyone, the judges will make every effort to ensure that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I noticed that you left a user a level 1 warning after he already had a higher level warning... the right thing to do is usually leave a higher or equal (some times when leaving a different warning as you did) level of warning as before. Cheers. --lTopGunl (talk) 10:21, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

VisualEditor newsletter—December 2014

Did you know?

Basic table editing is now available in VisualEditor. You can add and remove rows and columns from existing tables at the click of a button.

The user guide has more information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has fixed many bugs and worked on table editing and performance. Their weekly status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. Upcoming plans are posted at the VisualEditor roadmap.

VisualEditor was deployed to several hundred remaining wikis as an opt-in beta feature at the end of November, except for most Wiktionaries (which depend heavily upon templates) and all Wikisources (which await integration with ProofreadPage).

Recent improvements

Basic support for editing tables is available. You can insert new tables, add and remove rows and columns, set or remove a caption for a table, and merge cells together. To change the contents of a cell, double-click inside it. More features will be added in the coming months. In addition, VisualEditor now ignores broken, invalid rowspan and colspan elements, instead of trying to repair them.

You can now use find and replace in VisualEditor, reachable through the tool menu or by pressing ⌃ Ctrl+F or ⌘ Cmd+F.

You can now create and edit simple <blockquote> paragraphs for quoting and indenting content. This changes a "Paragraph" into a "Block quote".

Some new keyboard sequences can be used to format content. At the start of the line, typing "*  " will make the line a bullet list; "1.  " or "# " will make it a numbered list; "==" will make it a section heading; ": " will make it a blockquote. If you didn't mean to use these tools, you can press undo to undo the formatting change. There are also two other keyboard sequences: "[[" for opening the link tool, and "{{" for opening the template tool, to help experienced editors. The existing standard keyboard shortcuts, like ⌃ Ctrl+K to open the link editor, still work.

If you add a category that has been redirected, then VisualEditor now adds its target. Categories without description pages show up as red.

You can again create and edit galleries as wikitext code.

Looking ahead

VisualEditor will replace the existing design with a new theme designed by the User Experience group. The new theme will be visible for desktop systems at MediaWiki.org in late December and at other sites early January. (You can see a developer preview of the old "Apex" theme and the new "MediaWiki" one which will replace it.)

The Editing team plans to add auto-fill features for citations in January. Planned changes to the media search dialog will make choosing between possible images easier.

Negative-calorie food edit reversion

Hi, Faizan. You recently reverted my edit to the page "Negative-calorie foods". I think my edit should have stayed. It was constructive in the sense that it corrected incorrect grammar. The grammar in question was the word "it's" in place of "its". The correct, possessive form of "it" is "its", so as not to be confused with the contraction of "it is". Because of that, my edit was needed. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.28.180.207 (talk) 09:50, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Faizan. Please take a look at my comment on the talk page of Badshahi Mosque. I think it is time the unsourced content was deleted.OrangesRyellow (talk) 11:22, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Tajik People

I see you reverted a SPA who I suspect is sockpuppet missed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Turan22, which I reported. Oddly, I think their edits are correct on Tajik People. The version favored by a group of IPs [1] includes pictures of famous historical figures, but those linked articles do not indicate the figures were Tajiks. I recently went through and removed the unsupported pics. [2] Edward321 (talk) 14:27, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Sumanta

Hello, there Faizan , I have given a link of NDTV, where it spoke about Pakistani Casualty , I don't understand your allegation of vanadalism , hence, either prove it or take back your word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 18:18, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello there. We have discussed the figures and claims by Pakistani and Indian officials of the article's talk and there is a consensus for the current version there. If you need any change, refer to the the article's talk. Regarding NDTV, it gives a unique figure of "5 Pakistanis killed" which is contrary even to the BSF officials' claim. Regards. Faizan 18:29, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
THe NDTV source does not give the timeframe of the killings too. Faizan 18:32, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

And you call this Vandalism, a mail or message would do, now what will be if I charge you dictating at your will, by deleting my entries without a prior notification and suppressing the fact, ok, then here is the latest link:

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/bsf-replies-to-pakistan-firing/article6749665.ece

I will edit the page and continue to do so, at my suitable time, until more news would come forward.

Now, best wishes for your study. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 18:43, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Please sign your messages by using four tildes: "~~~~" You need to get consensus for any of your controversial changes. Regarding the link given, The Hindu in the article says: "five Pakistani Rangers have been killed in the exchange of fire since Thursday", and it links this text to this link, which says only two Rangers were killed. Perhaps The Hindu needs to correct, either they should make it 5 in both articles, or 2 in both articles. Nevertheless, no Pakistani soldier's casualty has been reported in January. Faizan 18:50, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Fine, I may remove my editing depending upon the Facts emanating in the Future, and what's if , the news of the Casualty bore by the Rangers was not reflected in Pakistani Media, where there are gagging of Media was and are common occurance, where do you authenticate source ? and how you are self asserting your self about non reporting by the Pakistani media of Pakistani Casualty, as non occurrence of their death, then I cann't help, but I must say your charge of Vandalism labelled against me are 'derogatory' amd 'uncalled for'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 19:20, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Live in your world of self denial. And One day some body from India, with Admin power will take a cue from you and start reverting all the edit prompting Banning of Edit Option in Both Pakistani and Indian Pages, as happened in Kargil War Page, and will be detrimental for Wikipedia's future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 19:24, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I don't think it has anything to do with the "future". Have you got any source which explicitly says that the Rangers were killed in Xth January 2015? There is no report regarding this in the media, both pakistani and international. A casualty gets reported so fast, a 13 year old girl killed by BSF firing today has been reported in all major Pakistani media sources but not a single international or Pakistani source has reported Rangers casualty. Faizan 19:26, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

No point in continuation of chatting with you and debating about 'Future' of Wikipedia, since you are obsessed with the fact of plausible denial well, what will International Media confirm ? Especially When Pakistani media mum about Pakistani Casualty  ??? its really pointless now for talking with you, I don't bother either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 19:47, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Your latest edit on the article needs discussion. Faizan 19:56, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Discussion can not be held against the charge of 'Vandalism' — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 20:06, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

WP:TALKDONTREVERT. Anyway, I have striked a part of the message left by the Twinkle template, which was intended only for adding incorrect information. You should get the matter discussed. Faizan 20:12, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Mate , Vandalisation is generalised into defacing or damaging contents , but in case of me , it appears to be an inadvertent fault, Anyways, lets bury the hatchet, which entry ? You have reverted my entry in NESCOM Burrac as it seems, what striking point is that absence of OEMs of Pakistani origin of different parts of Burraq , such as Sensors, Airframe etc., PK Sengupta's blog matched the similarities, however, there's at least one media source which really echoes the same view of Burraq being the derivative of CH 3 ,

http://archive.defensenews.com/article/20131125/DEFREG03/311250023/Pakistan-Inducts-Armed-UAVs — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 20:29, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Regarding NESCOM Burraq, the source you previously cited is not a reliable one. It is a blogspot. See WP:RS. It read: "How China’s CH-3 UCAV Has Become Pakistan’s Burraq UCAV." The source you are giving now is a reliable one, but it does not even mention China once. Also your edit at Indo-Pak skirmishes needs discussion at article's talk's thread too. Faizan 20:40, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
It mentions China, says: "Observers have said the Burraq appears to be a Pakistani variant or development of the Chinese Rainbow CH-3 UCAV, but little else is known beyond speculation based on the CH-3’s specifications.". Faizan 20:42, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
So the source itself says that being a Chinese variant is a theory or conjecture without firm evidence. Faizan 20:43, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

There is no ego matters when series producing or developing variants on a proven platform, of any foreign nation, especially when an agreement in this effect really takes place or reached with the original manufacturer, the point I have mentioned not a theory but a strong possibility, but that does not really undermine the benefit for which such types of solution had to be required, India is nothing exception, technical collaboration ranged here from govt. to govt. and company to company to acquire sensitive technologies and the developed nations are much open to the media, in this matter, than us in South Asian region. Now if you want to stick with the official statement emanating out of Pakistani Govt., then its fine for me, but in reality much of the 'Indigenous Tech' are sourced from outside, in South Asia, since we really lack the resources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanta Nag (talkcontribs) 21:00, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 launch newsletter

Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.

Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! WP:TERRORIST

WP:TERRORIST is not valid here as both the sources clearly mention them as terrorists by inline citations. You should probably revert. Thanks, ƬheStrikeΣagle 17:35, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

WP:TERRORIST says such labels " are best avoided unless widely used by reliable sources to describe the subject, in which case use in-text attribution." I doubt whether majority of sources say it is the "Kashmiri terrorists". For example, [3] [4] [5] [6], all these sources are Indian, but in similar cases of alleged infiltration, they are not using the word "terorist". Even then in the other part, there is no "in-text attribution" in the above diff. Faizan 17:49, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Beats me. I was referring to the sources mentioned in the article. Fine with me. Cheers, ƬheStrikeΣagle 17:52, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

January 5 casaulities

I read on some Indian sources that 2 Pakistani civilians were killed 7 and 8 also there is a claim that there was a brief lull on January 4. So according to Express tribune the two civilians were killed on night when the brief lull was accepted by both sides. So i think express tribune might be mistaken on it 9 Correct me if i am wrong Zerefx (talk) 20:36, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Zerefx A woman was killed first, then a boy was murdered earlier the day and after this got reported, the shelling caused the deaths of two more Pakistani civilians. The Express Tribune also reported 1-2 deaths before, but then updated it to make it 4. See the archived report of Tribune. The total murders for today are 4. For example see, [10] [11] [12]. Hope the confusion is clear. Faizan 20:56, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Okay thanks for clearing my doubts :) Zerefx (talk) 07:35, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Islamic Terrorism

You said it has "nothing to do with foreign policy". of course it does. Clearly shows the rise of terrorism because of western foreign policy according to U.S department of state. If you click on the reference it ll show you the number of terrorism in Iraq since 2003 also. Please explain. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 17:03, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

What has the "Rise in Islamic Terrorism" to do with "western foreign policy"? Why did you put it in the top? It also used non-neutral wording as your paraphrasing interpreted the US and allies as "aggressors invading Afghanistan and Iraq". That is not an invasion, but an effort to restore peace, retaliation for the September 11 attacks and War on terror. Faizan 17:16, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
If you look at the article...it says "Motivations and Islamic terrorism" and than underneath it a sub-section on western foreign policy. According to U.S department of State...terrorist activity has significantly increased in Iraq and Afghanistan post invasion. Im not intrepreting them as "aggressors" but thats what the graph says that their action in Iraq and Afghanistan have led to a significant increase in those countries which is not something hard to comprehend as their will be some who will retaliate since they oppose the invasions. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 21:45, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
I agree that this type of terrorism increased greatly after the 9/11 as per the graph, but the graph itself is not saying that the foreign policy is responsible. It's not the US State Department that relates the rise in Islamic terrorism with the Western foreign policy, but it's the author of the article, John Rees, who claims this, and it is his personal opinion. I think its wasting both of our time but you have to remove the term "Afghan" from the militants. I mean seriously the only known militants attacking pakistan (living around durand line) is TTP. Afghan militants is wrong term to use there. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 00:09, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Am I the only one opposed to this? Why don't go to the article's talk? Why don't you read WP:CONSENSUS? Faizan 00:48, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Huggle message

Hey Faizan! You are receiving this message because you are subscribed at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers

I have recently launched a new downloads for beta testers that contains nightly builds of huggle, eg. versions that are built every day from our master branch and contains latest huggle. These builds are currently provided only for Windows and Ubuntu. You can find them here: http://huggle.wmflabs.org/builds/

Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Keep the bug reports coming to phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=Huggle Many thanks! Petrb (talk) 10:06, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

VisualEditor News 2015—#1

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has fixed many bugs and worked on VisualEditor's appearance, the coming Citoid reference service, and support for languages with complex input requirements. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. Upcoming plans are posted at the VisualEditor roadmap.

The Wikimedia Foundation has named its top priorities for this quarter (January to March). The first priority is making VisualEditor ready for deployment by default to all new users and logged-out users at the remaining large Wikipedias. You can help identify these requirements. There will be weekly triage meetings which will be open to volunteers beginning Wednesday, 11 February 2015 at 12:00 (noon) PST (20:00 UTC). Tell Vice President of Engineering Damon Sicore, Product Manager James Forrester and other team members which bugs and features are most important to you. The decisions made at these meetings will determine what work is necessary for this quarter's goal of making VisualEditor ready for deployment to new users. The presence of volunteers who enjoy contributing MediaWiki code is particularly appreciated. Information about how to join the meeting will be posted at mw:Talk:VisualEditor/Portal shortly before the meeting begins.

Due to some breaking changes in MobileFrontend and VisualEditor, VisualEditor was not working correctly on the mobile site for a couple of days in early January. The teams apologize for the problem.

Recent improvements

The new design for VisualEditor aligns with MediaWiki's Front-End Standards as led by the Design team. Several new versions of the OOjs UI library have also been released, and these also affect the appearance of VisualEditor and other MediaWiki software extensions. Most changes were minor, like changing the text size and the amount of white space in some windows. Buttons are consistently color-coded to indicate whether the action:

 • starts a new task, like opening the ⧼visualeditor-toolbar-savedialog⧽ dialog:  blue ,
 • takes a constructive action, like inserting a citation:  green ,
 • might remove or lose your work, like removing a link:  red , or
 • is neutral, like opening a link in a new browser window:  gray.

The TemplateData editor has been completely re-written to use a different design (T67815) based on the same OOjs UI system as VisualEditor (T73746). This change fixed a couple of existing bugs (T73077 and T73078) and improved usability.

Search and replace in long documents is now faster. It does not highlight every occurrence if there are more than 100 on-screen at once (T78234).

Editors at the Hebrew and Russian Wikipedias requested the ability to use VisualEditor in the "Article Incubator" or drafts namespace (T86688, T87027). If your community would like VisualEditor enabled on another namespace on your wiki, then you can file a request in Phabricator. Please include a link to a community discussion about the requested change.

Looking ahead

The Editing team will soon add auto-fill features for citations. The Citoid service takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. After creating it, you will be able to change or add information to the citation, in the same way that you edit any other pre-existing citation in VisualEditor. Support for ISBNs, PMIDs, and other identifiers is planned. Later, editors will be able to contribute to the Citoid service's definitions for each website, to improve precision and reduce the need for manual corrections.

We will need editors to help test the new design of the special character inserter, especially if you speak Welsh, Breton, or another language that uses diacritics or special characters extensively. The new version should be available for testing next week. Please contact User:Whatamidoing (WMF) if you would like to be notified when the new version is available. After the special character tool is completed, VisualEditor will be deployed to all users at Phase 5 Wikipedias. This will affect about 50 mid-size and smaller Wikipedias, including Afrikaans, Azerbaijani, Breton, Kyrgyz, Macedonian, Mongolian, Tatar, and Welsh. The date for this change has not been determined.

Let's work together

Islam, a religion of peace, not war.

Hello i changed some info on the page Islamic terrorism today, i just wanted to ask a question, is Islam a religion of war? if the answer is yes than how are you alive, well your name Faizan appears to be from Asia, Pakistan maybe, it is a muslim name so hope you know about Islam. But if the answer is no then how can we say the terrorists are following Islamic knowledge? That just blames the whole religion, but if we just add a line saying, ‘following their own interpretation of the Quran and Hadits then it makes more sense. Hope you understand what i mean. Salam — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.14.79.35 (talk) 03:28, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

How am I alive? So you do agree that Islam is potent enough to kill me in either case? I would not share my personal thoughts, anyway. Your edit added personal commentary: Terrorists are not Muslims, they are only so called Muslims and “following” Islam. Faizan (talk) 05:15, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Such a comment on the top of the lead? The role played by the Koran is disputed. We already have enough clarifications on the article: "The role played by the Qur'an, Islam's sacred text, in opposing or in encouraging attacks on civilians is disputed." Faizan (talk) 05:17, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Some concerns about activities at Agnosticism

Hi there Faizan, I'm bringing this issue to you as one of the two most substantial editors for the above article (the other being JimWae). I have the article in question watchlisted and I noticed a substantial edit to it yesterday that I decided to investigate. I discovered that several reliable sources and the content they support had been removed, on the grounds that they were not academic sources, based (apparently) on a glaring misreading of WP:V. The user seemed to be new, so this wasn't all that surprising, but the more I looked into the matter, the more I became suspicious. The user in question Kylerops (talk · contribs) has all of five edits on the project and tried to force this same edit a few months back. They "discussed" this matter with IIXVXII (talk · contribs) on the article talk before trying to force this issue, but IIXVXII also has relatively few edits that are largely in the same spaces and seems to be pushing for the same basic changes to the article, using similar language, and I find a similar situation with Balljust (talk · contribs) and Asb0y (talk · contribs). There are a number of additional short-term accounts over the past 15 months or so who have only a few edits to their name that have altered the article in a somewhat similar manner, but the case for these is not as strong as the association between the four above.

I wouldn't say the case is a slam dunk with regard to sockpuppetry for all of the accounts necesarily, but it's enough to send up a red flag for me, and I thought you should be notified. If it is a case of socking, the user in question is not being super disruptive as they are waiting months between inserting controversial edits and making an attempt discuss the issue on the talk page (though their understanding of policy with regard to the edits in questions seems weak and they seem to be relying instead on reiterating their subjective/OR opinion through multiple voices, hoping it will simulate or generate consensus to support their changes. Anyway, hope this is of help to you; let me know if it goes to SPI. Snow I take all complaints in the form of epic rap battles 03:06, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi guys! I do not have control over the Asb0y (talk · contribs) account. I have stopped editing the page, because I got busy/distracted with other things. If you guys know of anyway I can prove the accounts are unrelated let me know. Otherwise, I guess you have my word, whatever that is worth. I agree that I do not have a complete understanding of the policy with regards to the edits, but I learned as best I could and minded the feedback of other users. Anyways, I maintain that all of my edits were well motivated and improved the quality of the article. balljust (talk) 10:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for taking the time to respond here balljust, and for doing so civilly despite the suspicion I've alluded to. For the record, Kylerops also has denied the implication and given that there is really no outright disruptive behaviour going on here, I'm willing to take you both at your word on the matter (not withstanding the fact that I'm the one who decided to raise the issue in the first place). As to proving the accounts are unrelated, there's no absolutely certain method, but if there was disruption and some suspicion of socking we could/would very quickly get to the matter through a checkuser process at WP:SPI. But I'd just as soon not waste our collective time on that. Other editors may feel otherwise, which is why I brought the matter of my suspicion to the two most prolific contributors of the article, so they could make an informed decision accordingly (since I'm not guaranteed to be working on it indefinitely). But given your response, I'm happy to assume good faith and believe the activity that struck me as red flags may just be coincidence (which does of course happen). On a side note, I probably should have just hosted this on my page and pinged everyone from there, Faizan included...apologies for the clutter, Faizan! WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader   Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as   Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge,   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Invitation

Thank you for using VisualEditor and sharing your ideas with the developers.

Hello, Faizan,

The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you were one of the very first testers of VisualEditor, back in 2012 or early 2013. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work better for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.

You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.

More information (including a translateable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.

Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
