A barnstar for you!

  The Barnstar of Diligence
Our differences aside, there is no reason to not appreciate your fine edits. Nice work on Operation Zarb-e-Azb! Zayeem (talk) 12:01, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
I am fed up of conflicts. After a faith-change, I have started a new journey here by trying to keep myself away from conflicts. I think that our conflicts could be solved by the talk page instead of warring. I don't think that the differences still exist. Thanks for the star, anyway. Faizan 13:11, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Operation Zarb-e-Azb

I noticed that you are contributing to the page Operation Zarb-e-Azb recently. Its an ongoing operation and its not going to be over soon. I think we have to consider merging sections. Incidents happened in a week can be merged into a section. Whats your opinion? -- Rameshnta909 (talk) 17:27, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I am contributing to it ever since I created it. The merge proposal is a good one, but prefer splitting the article into two, the entire Timeline can be moved to the Timeline of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb, after the article's size becomes more than perhaps 100K. Faizan 17:43, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello sir

Your post on PIA, sir is wrong. Dawn posted that chairman of pia said x many aircraft are active. the gentleman made right edit but he forget to add reference or explain. please don't be so harsh and revert everything, it's not nice. maybe add reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 10:27, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I explained the revert reason in the summary, "unreferenced and unexplained changes". As of July 2014, this is the current fleet. Whereas the reverted user gave wrong figures, by reducing the number of all of the planes. I have updated the article here. Faizan 13:47, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Sir

Wikipedia is against forums ciatation. I have visited that page for years and it don't change. If you read news, you'll get latest info. Which is, PIA has 3 a320 and one due in october. Also it currently has 19 operational planes. Only one b747 in working condition out of 3. I don't understand why cite a random website on the internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 01:29, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I am not "Sir". I agree that forums cannot be cited as reliable sources, but the source cited is not a forum. The source is not "unchanged" for years, as you claim, rather it is regularly updated. See the archiving at archive.org. As far as news is concerned, PIA is inducting new A320 aircraft, the second one recently, on dry lease. But the cited source has yet to update it. Faizan 07:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I call you sir out of respect. Perhaps you don't like it so I may call you brother? Please go to http://www.dawn.com/news/1121292 it says PIA has only 19 functional planes out of 34. Either use 34 or 19. But I don't think that it is good to add planes that aren't functional and likely to be scrapped. I haven't seen b747 flying much, if at all. This is credible website that is quoting senior staff at PIA, not some fan based website that isn't accurate nor providing proper citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 08:49, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

The source you cited from DAWN gives the figures of both functional and grounded planes. We have got the table in the PIA article for "the current fleet (which includes both functional and grounded)", so I suggest the addition of some columns to include the figures of the grounded aircraft. Faizan 16:43, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Brother

Good idea. PIA often has grounded planes. Can you make column please? I'm new and I don't know much. Because people say 34 owned aircrafts but they always changing numbers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 02:40, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Brother, could you please make column? I can do fillings — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 06:55, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Dear, I was busy due to Eid celebrations, I just noticed that there is already a column for "Notes", so we can fill the info regarding grounded aircraft there. To me, It would seem odd to add a special column for grounded aircraft, I have not seen such column in any airline article. "Notes" can suffice. Faizan 07:18, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Brother, Eid mubarak.

So I just put, example, 9 a310 and say in notes 4 grounded? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.178.239 (talk) 07:53, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, exactly. Use this reference: [1] Faizan 08:07, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi Faizan, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!

Major changes:

  • Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
  • Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
  • Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:19, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Hey Faizan, I am trying to make an wonderful profile with all the hard work. Yet, I got a few questions. How can I create some articles about notable people? How can I achieve those stars which have been labelled on your userpage? What are the autopatrollers and rollbackers ? Are u an administrator of Wikipedia? Respond me..... and I apologise for all of these questions. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115ash (talkcontribs) 16:44, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

VisualEditor newsletter—July and August 2014

The VisualEditor team is currently working mostly to fix bugs, improve performance, reduce technical debt, and other infrastructure needs. You can find on Mediawiki.org weekly updates detailing recent work.

Dialog boxes in VisualEditor have been re-designed to use action words instead of icons. This has increased the number of items that need to be translated. The user guide is also being updated.

The biggest visible change since the last newsletter was to the dialog boxes. The design for each dialog box and window was simplified. The most commonly needed buttons are now at the top. Based on user feedback, the buttons are now labeled with simple words (like "Cancel" or "Done") instead of potentially confusing icons (like "<" or "X"). Many of the buttons to edit links, images, and other items now also show the linked page, image name, or other useful information when you click on them.

  • Hidden HTML comments (notes visible to editors, but not to readers) can now be read, edited, inserted, and removed. A small icon (a white exclamation mark on a dot) marks the location of each comments. You can click on the icon to see the comment.
  • You can now drag and drop text and templates as well as images. A new placement line makes it much easier to see where you are dropping the item. Images can no longer be dropped into the middle of paragraphs.
  • All references and footnotes (<ref> tags) are now made through the "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" menu, including the "⧼visualeditor-dialogbutton-reference-tooltip⧽" (manual formatting) footnotes and the ability to re-use an existing citation, both of which were previously accessible only through the "Insert" menu. The "⧼visualeditor-dialogbutton-referencelist-tooltip⧽" is still added via the "Insert" menu.
  • When you add an image or other media file, you are now prompted to add an image caption immediately. You can also replace an image whilst keeping the original caption and other settings.
  • All tablet users visiting the mobile web version of Wikipedias will be able to opt-in to a version of VisualEditor from 14 August. You can test the new tool by choosing the beta version of the mobile view in the Settings menu.
  • The link tool has a new "Open" button that will open a linked page in another tab so you can make sure a link is the right one.
  • The "Cancel" button in the toolbar has been removed based on user testing. To cancel any edit, you can leave the page by clicking the Read tab, the back button in your browser, or closing the browser window without saving your changes.

Looking ahead

The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon. Your ideas about making referencing quick and easy are still wanted. Support for upright image sizes is being developed. The designers are also working on support for adding rows and columns to tables. Work to support Internet Explorer is ongoing.

Feedback opportunities

The Editing team will be making two presentations this weekend at Wikimania in London. The first is with product manager James Forrester and developer Trevor Parscal on Saturday at 16:30. The second is with developers Roan Kattouw and Trevor Parscal on Sunday at 12:30.

Please share your questions, suggestions, or problems by posting a note at the VisualEditor feedback page or by joining the office hours discussion on Thursday, 14 August 2014 at 09:00 UTC (daytime for Europe, Middle East and Asia) or on Thursday, 18 September 2014 at 16:00 UTC (daytime for the Americas; evening for Europe).

If you'd like to get this newsletter on your own page (about once a month), please subscribe at w:en:Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Newsletter for English Wikipedia only or at Meta for any project. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:14, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

  1.   Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
  2.   Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
  3.   Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
  4.   Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
  5.   Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
  6.   12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
  7.   Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
  8.   Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists.   Matty.007 (submissions),   ThaddeusB (submissions),   WikiRedactor (submissions),   Figureskatingfan (submissions),   Yellow Evan (submissions),   Prism (submissions) and   Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
