PA?

Please could you have a look at the last comment on my talk page? It isn't directed at me but another editor and I think it may constitute a personal attack? Sorry, you're the only Admin I can see online at the moment. SagaciousPhil - Chat 17:55, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

And I put this back, bacause even if Phil deleted it, I do ask for some help here. I had several personal attacks from this editor lately (thread on my talk Badly Written Boy) and even previously like a monthsome weeks ago, - and somedody should at least warn, or something. The comment is still in the edit history. (yes, I meant "shouting"). Hafspajen (talk) 20:50, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Oh for crying out loud! How did this get so badly out of control? Hafspajen, please use your break to recuperate. The wonderful collegial atmosphere of Wikipedia evidently got to you, but all evidence to the contrary, the project needs contributors like you. Favonian (ta[lk) 19:33, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Favonian, for your kind words. I intended this to be my last komment, but then I rememberd that I had a couple of unfinished articles, so I posted the drafts at Sagaciousphil page, would be pity not to finish them. And just before logging out remembered this post too. I guess, it is not actual anymore or something like that. I feel for the moment that the project doesn't want editors like me at all. I feel badly hurt, and especially because I feel that I was unjustly accused for something I never really did. Or meant. And of course now everybody is typing "she". No way to get rid of that, and I think this thing has gone far enough. Hafspajen (talk) 16:54, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppet?

I noticed a similar pattern of editing on the Karim Khan and Zand dynasty articles.

Both appear to have the same fascination with Karim Khan, Zand dynasty, and Luri language. --Kansas Bear (talk) 00:11, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Caprimanali is already blocked as a sock, and there are similarities between them and Jewiyeane but not enough that I'm prepared to duck block. You should consider reopening WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Bergman Gotland. Favonian (talk) 16:52, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Spammer on WP:AIV

Hello. I've left a comment at AIV but I thought I'd leave a message here too, to point out that the IP is misrepresenting the whole thing. Omniglott (www.omniglott.com) that the IP repeatedly links to is not a real encyclopaedia but a personal web site, a hobby page written and maintained by someone who is not an authority in the field, and thus not allowed per WP:ELNO. Which is why I reverted the edits and warned them for spamming. And it wouldn't surprise me the least if there's also a COI involved, considering how persistent the IP is. Thomas.W talk 17:34, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

I construed your opponent's entry at AIV as an attempt to report you for vandalism, and that's what my comment referred to – witness the edit summary. I don't haven an opinion on the merits of the disputed external link. Favonian (talk) 18:29, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
OK, my bad. Unfortunately other admins have probably seen it as my report having been turned down. Thomas.W talk 18:45, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Reguyla/Kumioko

Kumioko has socked again with the IP, 96.255.237.170. I am only reporting it here because this IP has been blocked for block evasion thus there is no benefit in opening an SPI. Would you increase the block length of the main account Reguyla? This was third time that he violated the standard offer. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 23:53, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

OccultZone Beeblebrox just denied your request to do it. Are you going around asking every admin? -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:01, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
What are you reading actually? Beeblebrox never said that! Nick said that he is "not increasing the block length" and it is not same saying as "it is wrong to do". It can be done by any other admin who has little respect for standards and norms. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 00:00, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
OccultZone you appear to be having trouble understanding, but as the blocking administrator of the sock/IP, I am not extending the block on his named account. Canvassing many administrators is problematic, disruptive, and block worthy itself. Nick (talk) 00:03, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
You have said that once already. This is not canvassing because it was Favionian who had extended the block length. There is nothing wrong in asking him. We can also bring this to WP:ANI if you want to, where at least 95% of the editors will agree that the siteban should be re-enacted, and this time it would be forever, no more standard offers. Now that multiple editors have already commented over here, I am not even going to post this elsewhere, let us know what Favionian thinks, he knows that whatever I have asked is within the standards and norms. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 00:08, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
OccultZone why would you want to pursue such a vindictive campaign to have Reguyla banned forever ? That's pretty sick and twisted. He has been 'caught' evading his block, he has been blocked for evasion, and I consider the matter closed. If you don't, you're welcome to take him, me or anybody you want to ANI. Nick (talk) 00:17, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

What a cluster fuck! One editor goes somewhat bananas and gets blocked, and nobody seems inclined to take emphatic measures against the permapest. Favonian (talk) 16:36, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Oh please, nobody is inclined to do anything to undo an emphatic measure. Reguyla/Kumioko is "emphatically" blocked indefinitely and has been for over a year. Yet they seem perfectly capable of editing around emphatic measures to make improvements. What else do you suggest be done? Expand the block? Make it longer? Contact the FBI? Maybe the NSA? Based on the comments and actions of Floquenbeam, Beeblebrox and others who are representing the admins in this situation, Reguyla/Kumioko was right. 172.56.2.111 (talk) 00:16, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Advice on lack of WP:NPOV please

Hello Favonian,

What action would you suggest be taken to correct the lack of WP:NPOV in the Safety of electronic cigarettes article. There is one editor involved that rejects any attempt at reasoned discussion if it does not support their own bias (this can be seen throughout the talk pages). The pattern of behaviour continues their peculiar zealotry as demonstrated over time on topics such as chiropractic medicine and acupuncture.

Thanks for your time Lancer2K (talk) 07:53, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

I don't really have any original suggestions. The user in question is a frequent visitor to our various dramatic venues, including a recent (declined) ArbCom case where the consensus seems to have been that we should "give community sanctions a chance to work". That's of course open to interpretation. Personally, I won't touch that subject area with a 10-foot barge pole. Sorry! Favonian (talk) 16:38, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Fibonacci

People get confused with his name. In this case WP:COMMONNAME doesn't work. I wanted to move it to "LEONARDO FIBONACCI", but only admins have the right do it. Can you move it? --115ash→(☏) 13:03, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

I have contested your renaming of the article (BRD and all that), so the only way to accomplish your wish is through WP:RM. Favonian (talk) 13:04, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

K2

Hello. The recent activity on the article K2 needs some attention. A likely vandalism edit (which I eventually marked as "good faith") stood for hours. This in the middle of a content dispute that is getting very little response from anyone. You have warned user User:Anchan Balti about edit warring and I don't want to become guilty of it myself. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 15:48, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm headed out the door in a few minutes and in any case am constrained from taking action against Anchan Balti, as I could be considered involved. I recommend WP:ANEW if he continues. Favonian (talk) 15:50, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
No! I don't want either of us slapped for edit warring! We are talking and maybe making some progress. I just don't understand why I'm suddenly on an island with this whole thing. I'm headed out too btw. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 16:23, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Fav, sorry I was so abrupt. I had to leave also to take care of something. I should have clarified that I merely wanted your input as an involved editor (taking your admin cap off for a moment) I guess. In the meantime it appears I have come to a temporary agreement with Anchan Balti. While I remain not completely happy about the current revision, I can live with it pending any further input or objections from others. Thanks. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 19:19, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
No harm done. Goes to show that one should neither read nor write in a hurry. ;) The lead looks a bit messy, but as long as AB admits that the common name of the mountain in English is K2 then I can live with it. Favonian (talk) 09:23, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

British Empire

Hi Favonian, I'm having trouble in regards to editing this article. I deleted a sentence that wasn't backed by sources yet explained why it should be deleted, nevertheless, there was a consensus conflict in regards to the article as it shows in the recent edit history [2]. I would appreciate your help greatly. (N0n3up (talk) 19:06, 3 May 2015 (UTC))

First of all: stop edit-warring immediately! You are already past 3RR, so you could be blocked without further ado. Now, carry on with the talk page discussion. If you can't get a consensus for deleting the sentence, it stays. That's the Wikipedia way. Favonian (talk) 19:11, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand, I provided sources why it should be removed, whereas the other user provided none and continues to edit without one. (N0n3up (talk) 20:59, 3 May 2015 (UTC))

Hi. I am User:AHLM13. You blocked me for two times. Of course not for my actions, but due to the hacker. You blocked my old account by writing "that's it". It was better if you wrote somethin like before, such as hacked account. Also, yesterday you reverted all vandalism done by the hacker, which was good of course, but can you tell me why did not you revert this? Yes, this was a userpage, but it do not take long to understand that it my account was hacked. I asked to check user to prove that I am inoocent. thanks --Ahlm85 (talk) 14:30, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

C-sharp minor

Hi. I think we conflicted at WP:RPP earlier today. I decided that the article could survive without protection, at least for the minute, you semi-protected it for a year. That's quite a difference of opinion - maybe we could meet somewhere in the middle and semi-protected for a shorter duration? What do you think? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:12, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: The gap is indeed noticeable. ;) The reason for what might appear as an overly ferocious protection is a long-running issue with a person, who edits from Telstra IPs in New South Wales. The targets appear to be mostly musical keys, e.g. C-sharp minor, and the vast undergrowth of articles named So Fresh: The Hits of Summer 2002 with arbitrary replacement of season and year. The edits are invariably unsourced and frequently disruptive, leading to a long series of escalating protections and (range) blocks. I have only been peripherally involved, so maybe the length of the protection is not the "going rate", but there is a definite problem. There may even be an LTA somewhere, but I can't find it – a special case of a more general problem. If you feel strongly about it, you are welcome to reduce the period to some number of months, but I can't promise you that the problem will have gone away when it expires. Favonian (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi, no I don't have any strong feelings about it to be honest, so if nobody else complains then I don't think it's worth worrying about. I do have strong feelings about people wander into lists (or even worse, list articles) and adding entries so it ends up in a giant collection of list cruft (example), but that's not really something protection can resolve. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:09, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
The lists are a notorious source of, ahem, contributions that Wikipedia could do without. Many of them are also of very limited relevance, but the obvious solution of just getting rid of them will probably fail to gain traction. Favonian (talk) 16:12, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Tirgil34 and IP socking

Hi, Favonian. I've filed another SPI against Tirgil34, including IP socks. Since you're a software architect and experienced with countering vandals on Wikipedia i would like to ask you a question. Last year, various IPs with the range 176.219... (Istanbul) were socking on Karasuk culture with confirmed Tirgil34 sock Greentent.[9][10] Recently, IPs of the very same range have been accusing others of being socks of Tirgil34 at my talk page.[11] Would you consider it likely that these IP's belong to the same person? Krakkos (talk) 16:00, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

I don't think my software-designing skills, such as they are, will be of much use in getting to the bottom of that morass. CheckUsers have the clairvoyance necessary, but are reluctant to publicly link IPs to named accounts. Not a very helpful answer, I guess. :( Favonian (talk) 16:16, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. I've asked Mike V about the issue. Krakkos (talk) 01:11, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
It's embarassing, but i got to reply to my question to Mike V. (except from Tirgil34's IP sock) :( On a sidenote, having spent some quality time investigating Tirgil34, i've found some very ducky accounts. User:Mrliebeip restores the sockmaster here,[12][13] adds content identical to a confirmed sock here,[14][15] and marks[16][17] his edits similar to many Tirgil34 socks.[18][19][20][21][22][23] Riversides most notable edit is to restore[24] content originally added at Nart saga by Alpargon.[25] Riversides was earlier blocked as a Tirgil34 sock in December 2012 but later unblocked for technical reasons. Henephon7 was blocked and then unblocked in the same period, and he has later been confirmed as a Tirgil34. Both Mrliebeip and Riversides are stale, but blocking them so that they could be properbly tagged would be useful for further investigations. Can WP:DUCK be applied to stale socks? Hi Favonian,

Just a Query, I haven't been on Wiki for years and a lot seems to have changed. I have a character that keeps following my every edit to undo it. It smacks of vandalism to me. What can I do to prevent someone cyber-stalking my edits and sending me repeated messages?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by *Castle&Gardens* (talkcontribs) 23:20, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Paying attention to the reasons given for their reversions would help. See also WP:NOTVAND and WP:OWN. And for the record, Favonian's talk page is on my watchlist. Ian.thomson (talk) 23:39, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Castle, you should pay attention to what Ian writes. Going to a random(?) admin with unfounded complaints of vandalism and cyber-stalking is more likely to have the opposite effect. Favonian (talk) 08:09, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm not God's gift to diplomacy, so maybe someone with a softer touch should inform the flower of India's youth about the differences between Wikipedia and Facebook. The IP has been efficiently dealt with. Favonian (talk) 15:47, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Sonny1998's sockpuppets

@Favonian, Bbb23, and DoRD: As it seems to me, banned user Sonny1998 returned once again, this time as ProjectRaw (his contributions - [26]). Favonian banned his sock Favour1600 (his contributions - [27]) in March (and I think several more of his socks)... It really look as a duck. --Sundostund (talk) 00:47, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

@Sundostund: Duck indeed. Blocked like its predecessors. Favonian (talk) 08:35, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Accusation of vandalizing Srinivasa Ramanujan's page.

Mr.Favonian, the page on Srinivasa Ramanujan has a factually incorrect sentence. Also, another sentence with same point exists right after it. My attempt to remove the redundant sentence has been met with your message of vandalism. Please allow me to edit it. --Deepred12 (talk) 09:16, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Struck the warning and apologized on your talk page. Favonian (talk) 09:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Combined with faulty software. It didn't tell me that the edit conflict caused me to erase your message. Favonian (talk) 18:12, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Of course, I assumed as much. No worries. --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:19, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
It is bad when one thing becomes two. One should not look for anything else in the Way of the Samurai. It is the same for anything that is called a Way. If one understands things in this manner, he should be able to hear about all ways and be more and more in accord with his own. ChristopheT (talk) 20:21, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Protecting Albion article from IP-shifting troll

Hi, in February of this year you protected the Excalibur article after it was under assault from an IP-shifting troll in Italy - well, the troll is still quite active on Wikipedia. He recently moved on to the Morgan Le Fay article (which also had to be locked down by an admin last month) and now he is attacking the Albion article. Would it be possible for you to lock that one down, too? Thanks. Cagwinn (talk) 21:16, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

@Cagwinn: How very tedious. I've protected the article for three months. Thanks for your vigilance. Favonian (talk) 21:24, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! Cagwinn (talk) 23:53, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

POV Albion

Greetings... I noticed the protection on the page "Albion". I do not understand. But I opened a discussion on the Talk page.--151.46.63.109 (talk) 15:22, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Medes

You've edit this, not sure if it's on your watchlist. There's an editor there who maybe, just maybe, become a useful editor, but at the moment I doubt it. See [29] and the addition of what he considers the Median flag. He hasn't a clue about copyright, eg [30] which was a copy of [31] until someone else rewrote it. See his talk page. Tiring me out (pretty tired in any case, the anesthesia form my septoplasty 4 days ago is still affecting me). Thanks. Doug Weller (talk) 15:23, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: He is a bit slow on the uptake, but at least he appears reconciled to the removal of the "flag". I'm probably not the right person to show him the error of his ways, my standard repertoire being of the heavy-handed sort. Thanks for teaching me a new word, and my best wished for your speedy recovery! Favonian (talk) 19:26, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Don't want a heavy hand . I'll wait and see how it goes, esp now that Eikidzn's weighed in. Doug Weller (talk) 19:35, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Rangeblock for Britneyspearsfan17

Can you apply a rangeblock to two IPs ranges in Quebec? This would be a follow-on to your indef block of Britneyspearsfan17. You can refer to the following related discussions:

This person has abused IPs in the ranges of 205.237.30.xx and 64.229.xx, especially the former. Thanks in advance! Binksternet (talk) 18:14, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

I'll wait a bit to see if I can narrow down the ranges. Favonian (talk) 18:19, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
I can see waiting for some activity at 64.229.xx, but the 205.237.30.xx range is already observed to cover nearly the whole /24 range of 256 addresses, from Special:Contributions/205.237.30.13 to Special:Contributions/205.237.30.254. Or maybe you are looking at the possibility of making smaller rangeblocks, for instance the following two. Binksternet (talk) 18:35, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

@Binksternet: I'm trying to monitor the two ranges – when the tool lets me. There hasn't been any activity since I blocked the "fan", but if it resumes I'll block an appropriate range, i.e. not the /16 one. Favonian (talk) 20:37, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Matching pair?

Could you have a look at these contributions and these, please? Perhaps it's just my imagination but they seem very similar? SagaciousPhil - Chat 08:55, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@Sagaciousphil: Very similar. How did I miss it? The second account is now blocked as well. Favonian (talk) 20:34, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks - I'm beginning to think I might be getting better at this?   S/he seems to have been causing chaos over here as well. Could you check this user? Seems related to the AHLM13 saga. Mar4d (talk) 07:06, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Does indeed. Ironed, folded and consigned to the drawer. Favonian (talk) 07:08, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Was it really AHLM13?. Check User was required. There were comments about OffWiki discussions, meeting somewhere similar to this, this warning from Neil. The Ip claiming to be Sobiya Naz is now asking to add on facebook.--Cosmic  Emperor  18:03, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Who knows. The person wasn't here with any constructive purpose in mind. Favonian (talk) 18:04, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

I thought you will check the details. In this talk page Talk:Kashmir conflict an Islamabad IP was contantly mentioning me about this discussion. The discussion recently mentioned about pakistan commando force check this They think we are a group to revert the 3 revert rule. I never thought about such a plan before. @Kautilya3: is someone who disagrees with me 80% of time starting from 2002 Gujarat riots 1 and 2

I think they are the ones who are having off-wiki contact as they are talking about facebook, and the same thing was suggested by pakistan commnado force on Mar4d's talk page. Faizan, 39.47.50.14 , 115.186.146.225 (another Islambad Ip), 39.47.121.0 are supporting each other in Kashmir conflict. There is another User:PakSol who sounds like Pakistan Commnado force. Mar4d, TopGun and Faizan all are always together and they have interacted for a long time, and gained each other's trust. If they are having E-mail canvassing, we won't know. Pakistan Commando Force posted about some real life acquaintance. I googled search the place Pakistan commando force mentioned on Mar4d's talk page and this is what i got. Previously Mar4d always supported AHLM13 and he believed someone is posing as AHLM13. Why will he suddenly report a new user as AHLM13 to you. How was he so sure? AHLM13 has become a scapegoat.Cosmic  Emperor  05:06, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Peter Birkett hagiography

Hi Favonian, I wonder if you can advise on Peter Birkett written and twice reinserted by user ‎EducationHoM? It may be that an article on English school systems isn’t your cup of tea (coffee?) in which case I understand. I’ve described my own emotions on the talk page and all the sources I have used are wp:rs.
Regards JRPG (talk) 20:17, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

I drink both. :) I have no love for this kind of managerial prose, so I have left a polite note, encouraging EHoM to focus on the talk page for a while. Favonian (talk) 20:28, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

You said "looks like vandalism" but it is accurate history. Please explain your research methods? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LibertyTeeth (talkcontribs) 00:47, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I think he's talking about this unsourced legend. Ian.thomson (talk) 00:51, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
  • LibertyTeeth, if this is the addition you made then odds are that it was reverted because it was completely unsourced and came across as original research. Any unsourced additions can be removed at any point in time if there are not sources in the article that would back up the claims. I did a quick search and offhand I'm not seeing anything that would really back up these claims. There are various factoid type books (the type that do little serious research for the claims in their books) that have this, but they would not be considered a reliable source on Wikipedia. If you want to add this then you'll need to provide proper sourcing, preferably an academic source, that discusses this theory. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:47, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Not much I can add to the comments, though I probably shouldn't have accused the editor of vandalism – WP:AGF and all that. The claim seemed so risible that I found it hard to credit that anyone might actually believe it. Favonian (talk) 16:13, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Could you unprotect the article Tim Berners-Lee?

Hopefully the vandalism will stop - it's been protected for years.--Glory of Space (talk) 18:35, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@Glory of Space: OK, I have lifted the protection, but if undesirable activity resumes, it'll be back in a flash. Favonian (talk) 18:07, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Ok, thanks!--Glory of Space (talk) 01:19, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Question

Should this article be deleted, since it was created by a sockpuppet of LouisPhilippeCharles? It also appears to be a fork of Basilica of Superga. Your thoughts? --Kansas Bear (talk) 19:34, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@Kansas Bear: I'd recommend merging the article into the main one. Not the entire (unsourced, in the fine style of LPC) list, just the highlights. Sorry for the tardy reply – Danish general election, 2015, kinda claimed my attention last night. Favonian (talk) 18:11, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
No worries. It wasn't an end-of-the-world, can't-live-without-scotch, sort of issue. Thanks! --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:20, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
I have copied the text portion of the article, so you can delete at your leisure. Thank you sir! --Kansas Bear (talk) 16:06, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
Since it's a merge, I have replaced the article with a tagged redirect. Favonian (talk) 17:20, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Well thanks for getting this one out. Can it be over-sighted too? That's too abusive and incivil remark. Faizan (talk) 18:53, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

My pleasure! I can rev-del it, but over-sighting requires a trip to WP:RFO. Favonian (talk) 18:55, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
OK, I mailed the team for oversight. Faizan (talk) 18:57, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

I think a revdel with do as they were just gross abuses.. but sinebot's version will also need to be deleted [32] as that still makes the edit visible. --lTopGunl (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

What happened? I put a better word because the other guy was cussing ant swearing? MinecraftSkater (talk) 14:50, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

@MinecraftSkater: To make it clear, we are talking about this edit of yours. First of all, the statement is ludicrous, and secondly, you completely mangled the top section of the article. Your career as a Wikipedia editor has so far been a disaster. Judging from your attempts to hijack the William Mansfield article, both under your current login name and as Eyeofcry, you are underage and, to put it bluntly, you appear to lack the competence needed to edit Wikipedia. Further disruption from your hand will lead to an indefinite block! Favonian (talk) 17:53, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Sure. There've been a couple of Italian IPs exhibiting the same pattern. Range may be too broad for blocking, but I'll let the experts decide on that. Favonian (talk) 19:48, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Curious about edits on the page for March 27

I see you're responsible for blocking user 86.5.161.217 - I'm a journalist and we're looking at doing a story on the user's weird beefing up of March 27. Curious what you know, if anything about the odd behaviour that has made March 27 the Wikipedia DOTY page with by far the most entries for both births and deaths. Would love to talk if you don't mind.

Beavis and Butt-head copyvio

You blocked LivesOfFilth for copyvio on Beavis and Butt-head. While I agree that content doesn't belong, it doesn't look copy-pasted to me, at least not from here. I even checked that page's history via the Wayback Machine and didn't come up with that text, which seems to have been on Wikipedia since at least 2011, including highly peculiar wording such as "disdainful dislike of many bands from England" or "The duo showed some signs of intelligence". Now there's probably sockpuppetry going on, and re-adding that unreferenced screed over and over again is disruptive, but is there also a copyright issue I'm not seeing? Huon (talk) 18:27, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

I confess that I didn't delve into the past history of the site, merely noticed that it was the same (rather useless) text, and that the page had a © at the bottom. Damn, those copyright things are complicated! Well, the editor committed suicide-by-admin and we all agree that the section doesn't belong here. Favonian (talk) 18:38, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Paper

Hi, re this revert: at 20:12, 4 June 2015 you set protection as "[edit=autoconfirmed] (indefinite)‎[move=autoconfirmed] (indefinite)" - the thing is, [move=autoconfirmed] is to all intents and purposes the same as no move protection, since unconfirmed users cannot move pages even if there is no prot on the page. The previous entry in the prot log is that of 22:03, 20 April 2015 when Tiptoety removed all protection; the entry previous to that, of 12:10, 31 May 2008, specifies "move=sysop", so my edit summary "prot lifted 22:03, 20 April 2015", which related to the move protection set seven years ago, was correct. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:39, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Right you are. I excavated the details from the protection log soon afterwards, and the article is now (once more) fully move protected. Favonian (talk) 20:41, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
