Welcome to the 2011 WikiCup!

Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. Signups are going to remain open through January, so if you know of anyone who would like to take part, please direct them to Wikipedia:WikiCup/2011 signups. The judges can be contacted on the WikiCup talk page, on their respective talk pages, or by email. Other than that, we will be in contact at the end of every month with the newsletter. If you want to stop or start receiving newsletters, please remove your name from or add your name to this list. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 12:57, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Physical Review A

Hi, the talk pages were not moved with the article itself, could you please have a look at that? Thanks! --Crusio (talk) 04:17, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

My aim was subtle humour, not disruption. If you found it to be a "violation", then you have my apologies. KimChee (talk) 01:53, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Might I request you reopen this discussion. Firstly WP:POINT is not a speedy deletion criterion, secondly the only person to have commented recommended keeping it (so WP:SNOW would be an inappropriate close too) and as part of their comment noted that neither of the actual speedy deletion criteria for redirects, WP:CSD#R2 and WP:CSD#R3, are applicable to this case. I don't have an opinion regarding whether the redirect should be kept or deleted, other than that there is no reason not to allow the full time for discussion. 15:08, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
You say it's "most definitely an R3". Please explain to me how this is either an "implausible typo" or an "implausible misnomer"? It was not created as the result of a page move so that part of the criterion is obviously not relevant. Also, even if it does meet a speedy deletion criterion, which I disagree that it does, then it is very bad form not to note this when you delete something, rather than using something that is not a criterion. Thryduulf (talk) 21:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
That's not what a misnomer is. The point of a redirect like this is to help users find what they are looking for, and in this case it does it by directing users to the answer. Whether that is useful or not is something that is not for you to decide on your own but for a discussion. I don't know what other redirects you've been deleting sumarily as "pranks" but I do hope that you are only doing so when they unambiguously meet one or more of the speedy deltion criteria. I'm taking this now to deletion review. Thryduulf (talk) 23:07, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Hello. After looking back at my original keep comment, I have concluded in hindsight that UK users would more likely search for "Gordon Brown's favourite biscuit", so I do have to agree that it does fail R3 for being implausible. I would have appreciated some discussion in which I would have certainly come to the same conclusion, but alas, this is moot. KimChee (talk) 06:11, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
No worries, this process has been an interesting new experience to me. KimChee (talk) 13:22, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Gordon Brown's favourite cookie. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Thryduulf (talk) 23:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC) ps: Thank you for the oh so necessary swearing on my talk page. Thryduulf (talk) 23:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

  The Admin's Barnstar
For making a brilliant deletion decision on Gordon Brown's favourite cookie and invoking IAR the way it was meant to be, I hereby award you this Admin's barnstar. Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 12:58, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Baths (musician)

Hello! Your submission of Baths (musician) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! KimChee (talk) 23:14, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

All clear now. KimChee (talk) 00:28, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

CoolMartini

I have posted some additional comments, but it appears you are wrong on this [[1]] (he broke edit restrictions), since there was no active restriction against him the time he got blocked [[2]].Alexikoua (talk) 17:01, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

You mean user:Zjarrirethoues? I noticed that he is the nemesis of CrazyMartini, considering his activity the last months in irc.Alexikoua (talk) 17:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

My point is that what you wrote in ani 'for someone else' is wrong and I guessed that it was a product of irc misinformation by user:Zjarrirehtues.Alexikoua (talk) 17:19, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not the nemesis of any Alexikoua, so it would be prudent not to make such comments.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 18:36, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for dealing with this. I've taken the liberty of clearing an autoblock that seemed to be still around. Cheers, -- Fut.Perf. 18:30, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Baths (musician)

Nomination for deletion

I have nominated Bloc Party discography for featured list removal here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured list criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks; editors may declare to "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 15:43, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

^^. Don't worry, if the items were done, I am willing to reconsider.-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 15:49, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
yes you are right, but things like the charts I won't even start to edit. I leave it to you. The small issiues I will change, don't worry.-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 15:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
The FLRC is the right place to improve the FLCs. Anyway, that won't hurt if I put this list, will it?-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 15:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
I hope you know that the nomination will end in 20 days, do you? You shouldn't be nervous. Anyway, all issues were solved and this disco is now cleaned up. Congrats! Sit down and relax; I give you a nice cup of tea. Hopefully you like it; it is made of bird shit ^^.-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 16:26, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I can end the nomination when I see fit, especially if it's a speedy keep. So let's try to relax. Thanks for making the fixes Fox, I would agree that FLRC in this case seems to have been a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

A magazine with a long title

I have noticed some of your move-article edits. Awhile ago, I moved this magazine to its current title. I am wondering if this is too long for Wikipedia. If you think a shorter title is best, or if the former, shorter, title is better, then please feel free to do a move-article edit for this one as well. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 23:50, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for James Blake (album)

The DYK project (nominate) 18:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

So here we are?

..That was a bit rubbish. Anyway. I've only just noticed this, I'm going to give you a hand with it as soon as I've got a couple of other stuff out of the way. --SteelersFanUK06 AFCNorth2k10 04:22, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Saying that though, you seem to have fixed all the issues pretty sharpishly, so for now I'm just going to add Support and wait for anything else to come up. --SteelersFanUK06 AFCNorth2k10 04:25, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Access Denied the Obama hater

You might want to change the block on that account to block evasion/sockpuppetry; see User:Access Denied. Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 15:34, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Tomorrow's TFA

I'm about to suggest a major re-write of the extract due to go on TFA Main Page tomorrow at WP:ERRORS. Can you have a quick look and see whether you agree that it is a grammatical and stylistic nightmare. I would tell some of the more able 11 year olds that I teach that they ought to be able to be clearer than this: how did it get through FA? Any thoughts? Bloc Party discog

Hey Fox, I know you must be a pretty busy vulpine dude, but just a quick note to say there are a couple of comments at the Bloc Party discog FLRC that are outstanding. While it seemed a duff nomination in the first place, it's now been sort-of comprehensively re-reviewed so there are still some things that need addressing, if you're still interested? All the best, and my compliments on having the best user page I've ever seen in my 5.7 years on Wikipedia. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:08, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

User:Lady Aleena/Television/Crossovers

As a contributor to this MFD back in 2009 (resulting in keep), you may be interested to know this page has been renominated for deletion. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Lady Aleena/Television/Crossovers (2nd nomination). Robofish (talk) 18:54, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Birth (Index Case album)

Can you undelete Birth (Index Case album). It was mistakenly tagged as CSD:A9 but is not eligible for that as there is a page on the artist at Index Case (band). Thanks Tassedethe (talk) 01:16, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by   Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to   Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1,   Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and   Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 23:22, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
