Speedy deletion nomination of Fernando Silva (chess player)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fernando Silva (chess player) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. PhantomTech (talk) 02:07, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Fernando Silva (chess player)

edit

The article Fernando Silva (chess player) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. New chess player articles

edit

Thanks for taking the initiative to create new articles about chess players. Unfortunately, some of them are very short and have no references from reliable sources. Would you consider first creating such articles using the article creation wizard here: Article wizard, or even building the articles in your sandbox first and having an experienced editor review them before publishing? That way, they won't be deleted right away. I look forward to reading your completed articles soon. Best wishes. - MrX 04:01, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Talking chess

edit

Sure, feel free to post messages to my user talk page User talk:Quale. Getting started on Wikipedia can be tough as nearly everything is new at first, including the technical parts of how to do stuff and the social parts of how to fit in with the expectations of a community that you've just recently joined. Try not to get discouraged and if you stick with it it will seem more natural in time.

When starting a new topic on a talk page, you should create a new section. The easiest way to do this is to click on the "new section" tab at the top of the talk page. That's what I did to create this section.

If you're interested in chess, I suggest that you take a look at the Chess WikiProject. You are welcome to join if you like, but there are no membership requirements and nonmembers are also free to ask questions or make suggestions on the Chess WikiProject talk page. It's a good place to get the attention of other editors who are interested in chess if you have a question or need help.

Other Wikipedians interested in chess may help improve the articles you start if they know that they exist. There are three things you can do to make it easier for other editors interested in chess to find your new pages. Unfortunately we don't describe these well on the chess project page.

  1. Put the article in the appropriate subcategory of Category:Chess. See WP:CAT for information about categorization. If you aren't sure which subcategory to use you can simply use the main Category:Chess and someone will fix it up.
  2. Mark the article as part of the chess wikiproject using the {{WikiProject Chess}} template on the article talk page. You can see an example of this on the talk page of nearly any chess article.
  3. Add an entry on the shared chess project article watch list for the new page. The shared watch list is Index of chess articles. When you do this, chess editors will be able to monitor updates to the article by browsing this url: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:RecentChangesLinked&target=Index_of_chess_articles. This for example would have let more people see the attempted speedy deletion of Fernando Silva (chess). I think some chess editors might have agreed with the speedy deletion, but others including myself would have tried to improve the article to include a claim of notability to demonstrate that the page should be kept.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I sometimes disappear from Wikipedia for a few days up to a few weeks, but others are around who can help as well. It's always good to have another Wikipedian who is interested in chess. Have fun. Quale (talk) 07:38, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey Franky. I said I would get back to you when I have an answer to the question you left on my talk page, and here it is. It would seem that having a link or two to your blog in your user page is ok. What is unacceptable is copying whole paragraphs of text from your blog to your user page. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 13:51, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
