Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, GVC12345. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Gizmo Varillas, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Nardog (talk) 15:08, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi Nardog, I am merely a fan of Wikipedia who wants to contribute, with no interest or contact to Gizmo Varillas. Thank you for your message.
- I'm confused. Is the author of the image you uploaded under the filename "Gizmo Varillas (COPYRIGHTS Gizmo Varillas).jpg" you, like you claimed in the edit summary of this edit and on the description page of the image, or Gizmo Varillas, like you implied in the filename? Nardog (talk) 15:17, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi Nardog, I have copyright to this image and I am not Gizmo Varillas or have any affiliation to him. I didn't want to imply anything with the filename, I just wanted to transmit to you that I have the copyright and that it is approved. Perhaps I should have named the file better. Thank you. Aga
- But the image is on Varillas's profile page of his agency's website. So you are the author of a picture of an artist which his agency has used for representing him, yet you have "no interest or contact" to him? The image has a watermark implying it was shot by a photographer named Dominique Schreckling, and in fact his Flickr has the exact same photo with the license set to "All rights reserved". Are you Dominique Schreckling or someone who works for him? If you are and you want the image to be kept on Wikimedia Commons so it can be used in the article, contact the OTRS team following these instructions. Nardog (talk) 15:49, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
Ok thanks for your help Nardog
- So do you maintain that you have no connection to Varillas? Nardog (talk) 16:18, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
That is correct Nardog, I solely used the picture which I thought to be copyright free which in fact it is not. Apologies for the misunderstanding, it won't happen again and the image is now deleted.
All the best
