- Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia
- Respect copyrights – do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view – this is one of Wikipedia's core policies.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page and follow Wikipedia's Biography of Living Persons policy. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced with multiple reliable sources.
- No edit warring or sock puppetry.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Deliberately adding such content or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism; doing so will result in your account or IP being blocked from editing.
- Do not use talk pages as discussion or forum pages as Wikipedia is not a forum.
The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!
Hello Gadgetmeister,
It seems to me that an article you worked on, Shannon sylvia, may be copied from http://shannonsylvia.com/bio.html. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.
It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.
Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 15:23, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

editPlease do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Shannon sylvia. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Shannon sylvia
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Shannon sylvia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Altered Walter (talk) 15:51, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself
editHi. Welcome to Wikipedia, but it is not a place like Myspace or Facebook for people to write about themselves and their products. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles
Also, Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind, and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU, Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. The links in the Welcome message at the top of this page will tell you more about Wikipedia. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:10, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

editI am not at all sure that the other article you mentioned would withstand a challenge on WP:Notability grounds - that is Wikipedia's inclusion criterion, which requires references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject", see also WP:42, and WP:ENTERTAINER if notability is based on TV appearances. At least it does not appear to be a copy of his own website, and does not mention his products and their "economical price and accessibility", nor was it obviously written by him - it was started six years ago (when standards were probably lower) by a user with many edits on other subjects.
I see that another user, with a previous editing record, has started a more neutrally-written article about you, and that's fine, but it will need more references to establish notability. You should not edit it yourself - please see Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.
An apology: Wikipedia is so keen to attract new contributors that it does not (in my view) do enough at account creation time to explain that it is not another Myspace/Facebook social-networking site for people to write about themselves. In fact it is trying to do something quite different from those sites, and therefore requires a neutral point of view and is fiercely resistant to any kind of advertising or promotion. That means that people join, as you did, under a misapprehension, copy in a promotional screed from Facebook or their own website, and see it deleted; I am sorry for the time you have wasted. I have this conversation so often that I have written User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard as background.
