The Wings of Honnêamise

Hi! Thank you Gamer for your kind remark about the article. Do you think it is something that could be considered a good article by official wiki standards? I ask this because like most people I've read a lot of Wikipedia but I don't really know much about how it works and probably there are many more rules I don't know about yet. This was the first time I really tried to edit one myself and there has been a lot of trial and error.Iura Solntse (talk) 00:17, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

I appreciate your input and it’s funny you say that because the Plot section is the only part of the article as it stands that I have no part in writing. Actually I did write a Plot section for Royal Space Force last fall, but the section was replaced by another editor at some point. So I looked over that plot description I wrote previously and edited it a little and have just put it back into the article. Please tell me what you think and thank you for giving this a look over. My edit now makes the Plot section much longer (670 words versus the previous editor’s 345) but for comparison I checked and by coincidence that is just slightly shorter than the Plot section for a science fiction movie of similar length from that same era, Blade Runner which I see is a Featured Article so maybe the length is acceptable? I do include in the Plot section what the characters state in the film regarding their personal viewpoints but this seems to be an important aspect of the plot itself, that is not only the narrative events that happen but what the characters say they believe about the meaning of those events.Iura Solntse (talk) 22:07, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I didn't realize that! Following your suggestion what I did was replace that reference which used the Wikipedia page on Anime Grand Prix winners with citations that instead reference the original Animage magazine issues in which those winners were announced.Iura Solntse (talk) 09:37, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks again Gamer for all your advice! A lot of the edits from other people in the past few months (since I started working on the page) have been copy edits so hopefully most of the mistakes have been removed at this point. Sorry about one more question that may be dumb but if I try to nominate it for Good Article status what's the best way to proceed with that process? Is there someone at Wikipedia I need to message to start that going?Iura Solntse (talk) 02:49, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
I put the article up for Good Article nomination. Thank you once more Gamer for your encouragement!Iura Solntse (talk) 09:35, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured topics/Padma Bhushan

I recently noticed that this topic has a new article, that it's in its scope: List of Padma Bhushan award recipients (2020–2029). As your the featured topic director, what retention period should apply to this topic? Regards, Armbrust The Homunculus 15:41, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

I think that there should also be a question on whether this could qualify to become a Featured List at this time. Since its brand new I'm not sure how many entries have to be part of a listing to nominate. I think ten. @PresN: Pinging you for this. GamerPro64 15:57, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, usually it's at least 10 items? So this would be fine on that front, awkward as it is to nominate a list with 1 out of 10 years done. --PresN 16:01, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Do you think it could pass a nomination? Because if not we could get it up for a Peer Review and then it can be nominated for a supp nom. GamerPro64 16:10, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

WP:GTC

Hello Gamer, I have two candidates at the GTC page, namely Treat Myself and Thank You. I'm afraid they're too buried on there and won't attract more votes unless I take initiative. Can you let me know the amount of votes they will need to pass? Thanks a lot.--NØ 17:47, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Its supposed to be a minimum of three to pass usually. But I can make an exception of two Supports if there are no Opposes to the nomination. GamerPro64 19:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Apologies for bothering, but they still haven't been promoted. Is there something that needs to be done on my part or a certain time period just needs to run out? Forgive my paranoia, haha.--NØ 15:11, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Do featured topics have to have subtopics where possible or can all articles within the topic be included. There are/will be 60-70 articles for the year 2018 and not every season subtopic would be included due to overlap between years (2017-18 and 2018-19). Would it be okay for every article to be listed out for the whole year? NoahTalk 22:49, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

I would think so. Would need to see what the final product looks like. GamerPro64 02:25, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
This is what the topic in progress currently has for articles/needed articles. It will be some time before this is done, but a seasonal topic will be coming soon. Edit: I see military history has a similarly structured topic with over 70 articles. NoahTalk 02:46, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
So it might just work. Good luck on the project. GamerPro64 02:54, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Quick question

Sorry ... I know I saw this several times in GT/FT discussions but I can't find it now. Isn't there a technical rule that if FLC reviewers judge a candidate list to be too short to be a Featured List, and if that list is the head list for a Good Topic, and it's the only thing holding up the Good Topic, that a nominator can submit the list at Peer Review instead? (And then I guess it's up to your discretion to judge consensus there.) - Dank (push to talk) 00:42, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

That is correct. GamerPro64 00:54, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Operas by Claudio Monteverdi

Hi GamerPro64, I don't mean to be a nuisance about this but I'm wondering if the nomination for Operas by Claudio Monteverdi might be ready for promotion? I'm wondering if the wait is due to there not being an introductory blurb, because Gerda Arendt and I do have one but I wasn't sure where to put it in the nomination. Soultaker (film) scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Soultaker (film) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 25, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 25, 2020, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:00, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you today for Soultaker (film), introduced " You like horror movies about the grim reaper chasing young adults after their souls get knocked out of their bodies from a car accident? Well I got an article for you. Presenting Soultaker, a 1990 movie starring Charlie Sheen's uncle and the films screenwriter as the female lead. What would have remained in obscurity if it wasn't selected for mockery on the cult television series Mystery Science Theater 3000, this article presents a passion project based on a real near-death experience the screenwriter, Vivian Schilling, had in her life that became a 250k dollar budgeted picture. And despite the negative reception it got, it still ended up winning a Saturn Award for Best Video Release."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:25, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Gamer, I hope you're well. We had discussed with Gerda, that I evaluate some of the FT nominations as a sort of trial for potentially being a delegate there. Looking at the three current good topic nominations: I'd say the The Office (American season 3) is pretty set, clear scope, category and template; it could perhaps wait in queue for a little longer, as most past FTCs seem to hang around longer than 2 weeks, but I wouldn't say that's necessary. The Off-season Atlantic hurricanes nom is mostly procedural and with four supports looks pretty set in stone; normally I would be a little concerned over promoting such an unstable topic, but the fact that this is the 6th supplemental nom is evidence in itself that the core group of hurricane editors are more than capable of updating the topic. The Marvel Cinematic Universe films topic, while formerly featured, has been pointed out by various editors as seemingly problematic, since marvel will doubtlessly release many more movies in the future and the phase one, two and three articles are not included. While this one is leaning towards a fail, it's only been a week, so I think the appropriate approach would be to wait for more input. Additionally, taking into consideration the potential disagreement arising from this topic being formerly featured, the wait should probably be a little longer than usual, to allow for extensive input here. Hopefully you'll find these evaluations appropriate. Best - Aza24 (talk) 09:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Yeah I can agree with those assessments at least. GamerPro64 23:50, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Good to hear; not to be a nuisance, but would this mean I'm accepted as a delegate? Aza24 (talk) 23:10, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
When I get a chance, I will add you as a delegate. Thanks for taking up the offer. GamerPro64 01:01, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Sorry about what I said about the cast section. I was basing it off an experienced editor who reviewed my nomination S&Man. Not only did I need to add references to the cast, I was also told to write about what those people previously worked on. I did know that the second part of that was extreme. SL93 (talk) 01:22, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Oh I see it was Crisco. I miss his posts here. I think he and I might have differing opinions on how those sections are handled. GamerPro64 01:29, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

The article Overdrawn at the Memory Bank you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Overdrawn at the Memory Bank for comments about the article. Well done! Test

@FGTC coordinators: Testing this template out to see if this works. Want to also add that bring some things up. First being to reminds the delegates that if they see a consensus made on a nomination they should wrap it up and process the nomination with the reached outcome. Second, if anyone has any questions or ideas about what to should be done with the project in this new year, let me know. GamerPro64 23:54, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

The ping is working fine for me! I had copied the code in the equivalent FAC ping template. I can promote "The Office (American season 3)" later tonight and will have a look at the others. On improvements, I have quite a few ideas: 1) I discussed this with Sturmvogel (you must have missed the ping Gamer) and he agreed that it would make sense to move Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates to Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates, would you agree Gamer? 2) I also plan to (and you guys are welcome to assist too of course) badger some people for FT blurbs so that more topics have them; a lot of the older ones seem to be lacking them.
I forgot about that discussion. Wondering if would be a controversial decision without consulting others. Changing the names of a Featured Content section might need more than just the delegates agreeing on the name change to happen. Maybe I'm just overthinking it. GamerPro64 02:38, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Good point, was wondering this as well. I may as well set up a formal RM for "due process" purposes. Although I doubt it will recieve any opposition. Will do so later. Aza24 (talk) 02:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
In general I feel that featured topics could do with more site wide-recognition, as such I'm tempted to write something about FT/GTs akin to User:SandyGeorgia/Achieving excellence through featured content... though I think the best solution may be to resume Wikipedia:Featured topics/Main Page appearances. Though I don't know where we'd go to resume such a process (proposals perhaps), I imagine we could getting away with doing a couple a month and it wouldn't be too many or too few. Aza24 (talk) 02:21, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
I am all for that. Maybe we should also try to get a piece published on the Signpost to talk about the project. Some kind of idea. GamerPro64 02:38, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Yes, good idea! Aza24 (talk) 02:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
I got it, was mostly offline yesterday. We've increased the points for GTs and FTs in the WP:WikiCup this year, so maybe we'll get more traffic with new nominators and perhaps, even, reviewers. But I would like to see something increasing our visibility on the main page. Perhaps a GT/FT of the week or some such?--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:06, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
