Ford Images

Looks like their strange licensing scheme has raised some concern on commons. Please have a look at this and see if you can help. Otherwise we are going to loose all our Ford images. In the long term, it may be time to try to get in touch with Ford and see if we can negotiate a licensing arrangement that will pacify the commons folk. --Dragon695 (talk) 15:30, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Regarding deleted article

Hello, I'm new to this and created my first article today, it was probably deleted because I created the layout for the page with most of the information blank because I was intending the person I'm writing about in question would edit and add her own stuff to the page as well as other people. Of course I would have to create it for them to add stuff.

It's an article about a new actress that has appeared in a few actual movies so I thought that would warrant creating an article.

I suppose I should add the required information first before creating the page. Also if there's anything else wrong with it please let me know.

The page in question I started was called "Sandy Duarte". And I was sure to save all the code before I posted the article so I still have it.

Dr. Cyclops

Hi. I noticed you changed the tag on File:Mad-sci.jpg from fair use to PD-US-not renewed... but also noticed that the Dr. Cyclops article isn't tagged as a public domain film, and a non free image illustrates it. Can you give a source or more info about that? If the copyright of the film has expired, we should be able to have a free licensed image to illustrate the Wikipedia articles. Thanks. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 03:11, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Spyware

After clicking on the Blender (software) link form the Graphics Lab, I followed the URL to the website (www.blender.org). After installation began, I got a pop-up from my Comcast Spyware software saying it had found large ammounts of Spyware in the software. Then I tried it again today to see if there was any difference, and sure enough, still Spyware. Should there be a note on the Blender (software) page & Graphics Lab's page?

Fläskpannkaka.jpg - Commons Upload from Flickr (2006)

Hello. Chances are high that you don't remember this upload [1] from Flickr to Commons almost 3 years ago. Nevertheless, I'm wondering if you can recall why you named the file "Fläskpannkaka" when the Flickr name was Swedish pancakes [2]. When I linked the photo to the Fläskpannkaka article, an editor commented that "[the] .jpg appears to be mislabeled. I looked at the original on Flickr and it doesn't say anything about pork or bacon. I think it's just a pankakka (swedish pancake)." The photo does seem to lack bacon, which I understand to be an essential ingredient in true Fläskpannkaka. I have neither seen nor tasted either variant, so your recollections and insight might help. Thanks, Geoff T C 00:21, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Deleted Wikipedia Page on Broccio Passu

Hi Geejo/Gav,

I just noticed that you deleted the following page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broccio_Passu

back in 2007. Just wondering if you could provide me with a copy of the page. I'm not complaining that it was deleted, but I remember reading something on the internet about Brocciu/Broccio (a Corsican cheese) a couple of years ago that I now can't find - maybe it was on this now-deleted page!

Best Wishes,

Replaceable fair use Image:David Anthony.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:David Anthony.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 10:25, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Thomas McElwain

If you're the one who called me a nobody for insisting that information posted about me be accurate, verifiable, and relevant, you have no business working on an encyclopedia of any kind. Do I need to get a lawyer? I did not ask to be included in Wikipedia, and if I am, at least I think I have the right to insist that information be accurate. If I am a nobody, as you suggest, then it would be most appropriate to delete the entry about me. Thomas McElwain —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.95.12.4 (talk) 10:09, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I've never commented on anyone named "Thomas McElwain". Checking the history pages for our article on Thomas McElwain, its talk page, and the AFD vote on the page, I've never posted an edit to any. I'm not entirely certain why you believe that I have. Orphaned non-free image File:Papillon book.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Papillon book.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JaGatalk 18:20, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello GeeJo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 400 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Admin help

Hi, I noticed that you were an admin when you made an edit to History of randomness. I would like to ask your help regarding the page on Shroud of Turin which was in really bad shape, and in the past 3-7 days was cleaned up after MUCH effort. The page was actually a featured article a few years ago, but it is no ordinary page. As the article says it is about the most studied and also most controversial artifact in history. A week or two ago, I described the page as a "rummage sale" because every IP in the world with some opinion had added items at will, often without proper format or with missing references. Myself and a couple of other editors have cleaned up the page now, but I am sure that if the page is not semi-protected, it will become a rummage sale again, just because this is a topic on which everyone has an idea and people have in the past typed paragraphs out of their favorite book just at will, on both sides of the debate. This mis-formatted entry [4] was from a few hours ago, and I had cleaned up after this fellow the day before.[5] and he had made similar edits as an IP the day before that. But he is not a problem in himself, and we have to face the fact that the article is on a topic that attracts many opinions, specially after someone has had one beer too many one night and just feels like expanding the page. On the talkpage I suggested semi-protection, so we manage to avoid the rummage sale syndrome on this page. There is no disagreement now among the editors who cleaned up the page, but I can not keep doing secreterial work for the IPs and new users for ever. The page will then disintegrate into a rummage sale again. Could you semi-protect that page please? Your help will be appreciated. Cheers. History2007 (talk) 19:20, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your help. I will apply for long term semi-protection as well. Cheers History2007 (talk) 03:59, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

René Mioch

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: René Mioch. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of René Mioch

The article René Mioch has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Apophis.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Apophis.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:47, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Note, I removed the file as a BLP violation (a mugshot provides a disparaging image, particularly without proof of wrongdoing) and as a failure of WP:NFCC#1 (there is an existing free picture of him). Only if these issues are addressed should the picture be re-added to the article. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:02, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
